Help, cd reader won't read cds after installing latest itunes upgrade.

Just inserted a music cd (non-pirated) into my macbook but it keeps getting auto-ejected.  Tried this with several music cds.  This issue only cropped up AFTER installing the latest iTunes update on 11 June 2011.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You could try going to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new account to see if the problem also occurs in a new account. If so, it would point to a hardware problem with the optical drive.

  • After installing latest itunes on new PC unable to login to my account in iTunes Store

    Hi all,
I get a new PC and wanted to use it with my apple devices.
System is Windows 7 64 bit and, after installing latest iTunes I am not able to login to iTunes (needed to authorize my new PC and use it with my devices)
Always get the message that iTunes Store is not available at the moment.
For instance, I tried the diagnosys tool inside itunes and everything is ok.
    Please help me...
    Clemente

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the two computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. Here are a few links that may help you out:
New PC & moving iTunes library
Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
iTunes: Copying music between authorised computers with iTunes for Windows
Another way would be to use an external hard drive, the guide for using the iPod as a hard drive is a good starting point. Apart from the sections on initially setting up the iPod, the instructions are the same for copying the iTunes folder to an actual external drive. If you substitute "external hard drive" for "iPod" the process is the same: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • PC completely crashed after installing latest iTunes update-coincidence?

I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes upgrade yesterday. After doing so it asked me to restart my PC which I did. However, my PC would not then start, I get a black screen with the message:- "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt - \windows\system32\config\system "
I have tried rebooting from the "last known good configuration" in "safe mode" and have also tried restoring the system with the cdrom that came with the PC.
Is this problem connected to the iTunes download or is it just a coincidence that my PC has crashed immediately after this?? It seems very starnge as I have never had any problems like this before. I am now using my work laptop to post this message as my home PC seems to be completely kaput.
Has anyone any advice or has anyone suffered the same problem?

This error is often due to a corrupted registry. I am afraid I can not help you myself, but this Miscrosoft article seems to cover it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
If you google: missing corrupt \windows\system32\config\system
you will find quite a few other hits about the problem.
PS I noticed that the Microsoft method does not aply if you have an OEM installed Windows:
+Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives.+

Good job, Natters. On doing the same search through my own registry I find the same results and my Device manager *isn't* blank. So I'm not so inclined to think it's the SP3 problem anymore. Again.
So the other thing that I would be worried about is a malware infection. *Apropos* adware can cause a blank Device Manager, although other similar varieties may also cause similar problems.
In order to get that possibility off the table, I think you should try heading to a reputable Malware removal help forum where somewhere can have a good look through a HiJackThis log of your PC, and can advise you how to fix any problems that show up. There's a list of reputable malware help forums at the bottom of the following page (although there are others out there):

  • IBook G4 won't start up after installing promted itunes & security update

    HELP.
My iBook G4 was prompted to update iTunes & some security update. I always do this when prompted, and restart as requested.
I installed the updates and restarted, but this time my iBook won't boot up. It makes the regular chime noise, goes to the gray screen, gets past the apple logo, then goes to a blue screen with the cursor in the upper left corner. The cursor moves just fine, the caps & num lock lights work, but it just never gets past the blue. If I leave it alone for a while, the cursor disappears, and I get the turning circle in the lower middle of the screen (the one that comes up during the gray screen). It just sits and sits on the blue. Hard drive isn't making any unusual sounds.
I tried starting it up from the Install Disc, which worked fine. I ran the disk utility and it said it didn't need any repairs.
    Still won't start up.
    I did the cmd + opt + p + r to get the 3 chimes... no change.
I tried the fsck thing, it didn't do anything.
    HELP.
    Am I a goner?
I saw that some other people had problems, but it seems like everybody's is just slightly different. My display looks totally normal, just won't get past the blue screen. My disk utility said that it didn't need any repairs? Looks like most other people at least saw some errors in there...

I think Carolyn misunderstood the "3 chimes" comment. I think what you meant was that you held down the key combo until you heard the normal startup chime for the third time, not that the iBook gave you the 3 long beeps of a failed POST (power-on self test) which could indeed indicate a RAM problem.
It's more than likely not a RAM issue. These bad updates occasionally happen and the way to handle it is to do what you're doing now; backup what you can and then do an Archive and Install of the OS (although usually a couple of reboots, start in safe boot mode and reinstall the update is usually all that's needed).

  • Iphone won't show up in itunes after installing latest itunes update

I just installed the latest version of iTunes.  Now it won't recognize my iPhone 4.  It shows up as a camera on my computer (Windows XP Pro) but no matter what I do, I can't get iTunes to see the iPhone.  Any ideas?
    thanks.

I'm not that familiar with Windows, but can you create another User account and run your Nexus Service software from there?

  • IMac won't "wake-up" after installing latest security update

I have a fairly new iMac G5 2GHz, and just installed the latest security update yesterday(4/1/06). Since that update, everytime my computer goes to sleep, I can't wake it up.
The power light is on and I hear the computer running... I can even hear the error "bonk" when I try and hit a bunch of keys, but still won't wake up. Was NEVER a problem until yesterday and I haven't installed anything else.
    Thanks in advance

  • Error message after installing latest itunes

    Hi,
I have just downloaded the latest version of Itunes and after quitting tunes & retrying, because the UK store will not load(WHY???). I get an error msg. as follows "applesyncnotifier.exe"
core foundation.dll not found. Any ideas anyone.
    Gramps

One other suggestion I've seen is to uninstall the Mobile Me Control Panel. That seems to have helped some people with the DLL issue.
Whether or not that will help with connecting to the iTunes Store I don't know. If that's come up only since the update, are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? Some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure. If you have Norton, you can find instructions for that utility on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.
    Regards.
