HELP!! Complete hard drive crash on IQ826t. Now running Windows 7/32 bit. Need help to rebuild all.

Pulling my hair out over a complete hard drive crash. I had a new drive installed and also Windows 7/32bit. I was able to recover most of my things from external back-up, but lost all that it takes to run the Touchsmart portion. I'm not a computer Geek but would sincerely appreciate any info to bring back my Touchsmart. I've contacted customer support and little can be done ( or so they say ) now that the warranty has expired. Has anyone had the same problem?

Has no one actually suggested going to hp.com and downloading the updated files for your model? The Touchsmart apps for Win7 are all listed there for download.

This is a problem with the Mac OS X implementation of exFAT. I've had the same problem.
Best is to use a Windows box to format the drive exFAT. Then it can be read by both Windows and Mac OS.
But aren't Macs supposed to "Just Work"? Not in this case. -

Are you talking about a Bootcamp partition? You can't boot Windows from an external drive.

Unable to De-Authorize Computer due to Hard Drive Crash. Getting now Maximum Activations Exceeded
I purchased an iMac at BestBuy, installed my Adobe Cloud Subscription (secondary license, the primary is activated on my iMac at work) onto it and used it for a week. The hard drive crashed and I went back to BestBuy and had them replace the iMac with the same model.
I was obviously unable to de-authorize the returned iMac and on the new one I get the message: Maximum Activations Exceeded ...
Why isn't there an easier way to de-authorize computers.
I went to the chat and they gave me the tech support number which happens to be available only from Mo-Fr. I am pretty much unable to do any work from home over the weekend.
Is there any solution to this problem I am not aware of?Nope, you need to call and have all your info ready. They are pretty sticky about confirming it's you. Once they confirm it's you they will change it. Easy Peasy. I have had to do it a couple of times over the years.

My old PC died and I replaced it with a MacBook Pro. Although I was able to copy the data from the PC's hard drive, I am unable to export my previous bookmarks/favorites to an html file because that PC won't boot. Is there any other way to import them into Safari using the raw data stored on that drive or convert them somehow to a format I can import?
You can only use a JSON backup to restore all bookmarks in Firefox.<br />
If you need to import Firefox bookmarks in Safari then you need to (re)install Firefox and export the bookmarks to an HTML file.

I have an external hardrive that i backed my Mac up on for just this kind of incident. I have 30 Gigs of music and many documents that i would like to have back. When i go into time machine, it acts as if it has transferred the data but its not in my itunes, or iphoto. HELP!!
Hi.
There are two ways.
1. restore her user account to your Mac, that way she can log on with her account and use it like she did her iMac
2. connect Time Machine, navigate to the latest backup, user folder, pictures and copy the iPhone Library to your desktop. Rename the library to "wife name iPhoto Libary" and copy it into your pictures folder inside your user folder. Now when you start iPhoto and go to the file menu you can switch to her library.

My old desktop crashed and I had over 800+ songs on my old computer. I have a new laptop but want to transfer ALL songs to my new computer not just those purchased on iTunes. I want to save all 800+ songs and then begin to download new songs to my iPod. Any suggestions?

How do I add additional internal hard drives to Pavilion h8-1217c running Windows 7 Home Premium
I am stymied in my effort to utilize two recently wiped and formatted Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB SATA drives I inherited from my previous HP desktop. I have installed them in my aforementioned unit, and find that the BIOS apparently accurately identifies them, but I cannot see them in Windows. Instead, in Disk Management, a disk with twice the capacity is listed, and the system does not allow me to initialize the drives, an apparent step necessary before they can be assigned a drive letter and utilized. Upon selecting to initialize, the Disk Management program of Windows presents an Virtual Disk Manager error message saying "The system cannot find the file specified," a message the specificity of which is slightly wanting. Huh? What system? Windows? The drive? Help? BTW, this particular frustration is well documented among a number of users on the internet. Why has no answer been provided yet?
Don't know what you mean about a link indicating this is an issue with the HP Pavilion h8-1217c...I posted that it is a general issue with a number of computers, many of them HP, wherein the error message I earlier cited came up. To answer your particular subsequent query, in Storage Options in my BIOS, it states that the SATA Emulation is AHCPI, not IDE...a setting I believe is appropriate in this case, since, as I had stated previously (I often find that I have stated, and clearly, previously) that the two additional drives I have installed in this box are Hitachi Deskstar 500GB SATA drives from a previous HP system. Both drives were wiped and reformatted by a local computer shop that was delighted to charge me $60 for that particular piece of heavy lifting, defending their bill by suggesting they woudl have to update the firmware as a matter of course. Upon getting the drives, they freely confessed that, of course, it was NOT necessary to upgrade firmware. I di-grease! To reiterate, both drives are recognized by the BIOS, with their appropriate ser no listed. It is in Windows 7 where the problem seems to crop up. Of course, as a Windows 7 issue, HP is supposed to support it. An earlier post in this forum...a reply to me...gave me a link to instructions on how to disengage the cage that holds the drives. I have, indicated by my posts, moved WELL beyond that point. Is anyone familiar with my issue...again, it is this...with the above stated conditions, when in Disk Management in Windows, with the drives recognized in Device Manager as one drive listed as "Volume_000," I am faced with an immediate pop up box telling me to initialize the drive, either as MBR or GPT. I chose MBR, though it matters not which I choose, since upon clicking OK, another popup box identified as "Virtual Disk Manager" tells me that "The system cannot find the file specified."
This delightful cul de sac is frequently cited on the internet, with no clear answer as to a resolution anywhere that I could find. Can someone help with this. This ought not to be so difficult, nor should HP be sending me around the bend, making ludicrous statements like "you should not be adding internal drives to your computer" or "we cannot cover this issue unless you pay a fee!" A FEE!! I just bought this system within the last three months. I have purchased several desktop and laptop systems and their accessories from this computer giant in the last 7 years! Do they give a flying-you-know-what about their customers? -
Recovering from a hard drive crash
I had a complete hard drive crash and lost all of the songs in my ITunes library. All the songs are on my IPod. When I reinstall ITunes, is it possible to transfer the songs from my IPod back into my computer? If so, how. I have over 12,000 songs on my IPod so I have no desire to reload all of the CD's again.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer. -
Safe mode did nothing.
Safe mode with verbose seemed to make it worse.
Before continuously trying new things, I could use the install disk to check the disk utility and clear
the hard drive from there but now the screen won't even load to that.
I really need the data on the hard drive especially if it can't be salvaged.
How can i transfer files?

I am stuck on the blue screen of death and it flickers.No. In order to use FireWire Target Disk Mode you need to use a FireWire equipped Mac. Other than that the only other way I can think of to even attempt to access you files would be to remove your hard drive and install it in a case and connect it to another computer.

Asking for help getting previous purchases on my ipod touch and iPad... my computer hard drive crashed and I replaced it. My music was a mess. I restored most back but some of my purchased music is saying it is downloaded but it is nowhere to be found. I don't understand why I can't get the music I already paid for back in my library.
