Help connecting macbook to monitor

I am about to pick up a new 24" LCD display, but I can't decide between an HP with 2 DVI inputs, or the Dell with rave reviews.
The monitor will be hooked up to my desktop G5, and to laptop when it's stationed.
Will having the macbook hooked up via DVI make a big difference over having it hooked up via VGA?
There is almost a $150 difference between the two monitors.

I guess it ultimately depends on what you are going to be using the monitor for. If you buy an expensive lcd then you can take advantage of the digital input capability. If you are only going to be using it a dual monitor with limited uses then save the money and go vga.

  • Need help connecting Dell U2713HM monitor to MacBook Pro

What is the best way to connect a Dell U2713HM monitor to MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5 to maximize the resolution 2560 x 1440? I was using a VGA adapter on my old Viewsonic monitor that hooked into the Thunderbolt port, I think. When I use my old adapter with the new Dell monitor, it stops my Mac from responding and the monitor says it has no DVI connection. When I unplug the adapter from my Mac, it starts working again.  I'm not very good with all these port options and descriptions so talk real slow, please.

1 Dual Link Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
    1 DisplayPort 1.2 (DP)

  • Need help connecting MacBook to TV

I'm trying to connect my MacBook to a regular everyday TV (i.e. only the three A/V inputs), but having trouble with the monitor (audio isn't a problem).
I have a Dynex mini-DVI to video converter and a yellow video cable, but it only puts a very scattered picture on the TV. Should that theoretically work, or do I need to make use of the S-video output on the converter? (I THINK that's what the second output is... I'm not too much of a technophile.) If I need something else, can anyone recommend anything?

Your TV has a DVI input connector. You need a bunch of stuff:
    1) Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Apple sells these.
    2) DVI-D video cable. Both ends should be DVI-D. This is the standard PC monitor video cable.
    3) Stereo mini cable. Both ends should be stereo mini
Attach the Mini DisplayPort adapter to your MacBook. Attach the DVI-D cable to this adapter, and attach the other end to your TV. There is only one DVI-D connector; if you have a DVI-D cable, you won't mistake the connector for something else.
Attach the stereo mini cable to your MacBook. Attach the other end to the input marked "PC Audio In (stereo) on the back of your TV.
If you don't get a picyure immediately, shut down your Mac. With the TV powered on, boot up your Mac. Then, if necessary, open System Preferences and pick Displays. All should be fine now. You can probably get display resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

  • Help- Connecting Macbook Pro 13" to TV with S video only

    Hi guys,
So I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro 13" 2009 model to my Tv at home so I can watch movies. My Tv is a Phillips Plasma
and only has a S video and audio headset input available (no hdmi). My Macbook has a mini displayport input. I went into the
Apple store and they suggested buying a s video cable, an audio cable and a Mini dvi to video adpater, which I did. The adapter however
is not the right one and does not fit into any port on the computer. This is when I realised my Macbook has a mini displayport not a mini dvi port...
any suggestions on what cables I can use to get my Macbook hooked up to the s video??
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thankyou!

Bring it back and start over.

  • Connecting MacBook to Monitor

My MacBook came with Apple's DVI to VGA Display Adapter. I tried connecting my Mac to a Dell Monitor using this connection piece but nothing came of it. Do I have to change preferences on my Mac? Is it even compatible (even though the connection fit)? What am I doing wrong?

Check on the menu bar System preferences, monitor if there is something checked off to be turned on. There is a Check Monitor or search monitor tab in the pop-up widow ( I'm currently using a italian version of Mac OS, so I can't be precise how tab caption are exactly written in your english version) and let mac do the search. It should work. I occasionally did the same connection some time ago at office with a Dell 19". and it worked.

  • Help connecting macbook

I recently bought a macbook and was using it on my network with a BEFW11S4. Originally i was using my pc with this router, but now its strictly the mac. It has been working fine for about a month, but this morning when i turned my mac on it would see my network. I still see others in my area, but mine is gone. I tried resetting my router and still nothing. When i connect directly to my router via ethernet cable, it wont let me login to the router either. It justs clocks until it says problem loading 192.168.1.1 I dont know what to do, is my router trashed?

I guess it ultimately depends on what you are going to be using the monitor for. If you buy an expensive lcd then you can take advantage of the digital input capability. If you are only going to be using it a dual monitor with limited uses then save the money and go vga.

  • Help connecting Macbook Air to network printer

Hi, i am having trouble connecting a HP OfficeJet 7612 to a Macbook Air running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 (14C109).
The printer is connected to the router via Ethernet and the Macbook is connected to the router via Wifi.
When searching for printers through the HP Utility setup or just by adding a printer it does not show anything in the list of available printers.
There is an iMac in the office running Yosemite and that found the printer straight away, asked to download additional software and was working in minutes.
I can add the printer by IP address but i can only print to it. It says at the bottom of the window  "Please note: An IP connection is supported. However, only the print feature will work properly." This is an all-in-one device and we would like to be able to use the scan feature on the Macbook.
    Things i have tried already:
Uninstalling the driver, printer and software with the HP Uninstaller, this includes a "Reset printing system…"
Downloading and installing the latest drivers and software from the HP website.
    Repairing Disk Permissions.
In the printers EWS chaning the Bonjour Highest Priority Service to 9100 Printing.
    Disabling IPv6 on the printer.
    Restarting the router and printer.
I personally feel it is not a problem with the printer but a problem with Network discovery / Airport settings on the Macbook
Any help would be really appreciated thanks!

  • Help Connecting Macbook to Xavi 7968 in Barcelona, Spain

I am working in Barcelona for 2 months and have moved into a place that has Telefonica WIFI service provided by a Xavi 7968 router.
I can see the network I want to connect to, but the password is invalid(?).
Can someone give me as much detail/explanation as possible in connecting wirelessly.
I am currently using a 3 foot cord to connect which is not comfortable.
    Thanks in advance.
Also, the whole 192.168.1.1 won't let me log in, as the username and password are both 1234. If I reset the router, I have a window of about 3 minutes where it works, then I get logged off? Explanation for that?

Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store.  Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays.  You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor.  If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected.  I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.

I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen.  How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

    Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
    Open System Preferences.
    Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display
Let me know if this helps at all!

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • MacBook Pro Retina Wont Connect back to Monitor

    Hey Everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Early 2013 15in that is running OS X Yosemite - 10.10.2 - Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
At Work for the past 1.5 years i have been connecting to a Dell Monitor via a DVI to HDMI Cable to use as my primary screen and have never had any issues. During the day I often present on the projector in the BoardRoom a Dell 4610X using a direct HDMI cable.
The issue: Ever since I have updated my laptop to Yosemite, every time i connect my macbook to my monitor after its been connected to the projector it will no longer connect. The monitor will recognize that there is something connected but it wont show anything. Even if i try another display in the office the same thing happens. The issue will always resolve if i restart the computer.
Recently I had an issue with the Logic Board and it was replaced by an Apple Certified repair shop. This issue was happening even before the logic board was replaced and it is still having the same issues now, so I don't believe its an hardware issue.
Although this issue is not critical, its a nuisance to re-start my laptop each time i get back to my desk after a meeting in the boardroom...
I would high appreciate some help on this!!
    Thanks in Advance

    Something else to check ..
Open System Preferences > Network then select the Wi-Fi tab.
Drag the school wi fi network name to the top of the list.
You can open System Preferrences by clicking the System Preferences icon in your Dock
Or click System Preferences from your Apple menu icon top left in your screen.
    Or, from your Applications folder.

  • Connecting MacBook Pro to a dell monitor

Having a little dilemma trying to figure out how to connect a dell monitor to my MacBook Pro. (Mid 2012)   Dell monitor has a dvi-d connection. Not sure which apple connector I need and if I need to purchase a double ended male male dvi-d cable. Help!

    Hi,
I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.
    Cheers,
