Help connecting Mail app to my @mac account

Hi folks,         (Late 2011 MBP)  -  OSX 10.7.5
For the first time ever im trying to access my @mac emails.  Ive openned the Mail app and tried to add an account by entering my @mac username, address and password.  The incoming mail server pref pannel pops up and the acount type is set to icloud.  Ive never used icloud for mail so i check my icloud preferences and "mail & notes" isnt checked.  I check it and it asks me to create an @icloud address.  I do this and after hitting 'ok' and 'create' it just asks again. I hafta hit cancel and go back to the icloud pannel where mail & notes is unchecked again.  Im assuming that without this checked i cannot access my @mac emails.  Any suggestions out there?

Here is how I have Mac mail configured for my me.com mail account:
account type:  iCloud IMAP
incoming server: p04-imap.mail.me.com (this is greyed out, so must have been supplied by me.com)
Outgoing server: .Mac(iCloud)
TLS certificate: none
Under advanced:
Port 993 Use SSL
Authentication Apple Token
This works fine for me.

  • Connecting Mail.app to an exchange server.

I am trying to connect up to an exchange server at work. I have gotten an iPod to connect with no problems and it linked to my work calendar. A fellow employee has done the same with their iPhone.
The problem comes when I try and link up my mail.app to the same account. While it will allow me to link up with the exchange IMAP service it will not allow me to link up the exchange service. When I try and use exchange rather than IMAP it states that the exchange server is not responding.
Using the networking tool I see ports for SMTP, IMAP and POP3. I am not sure which port would be for exchange but I do not see IMAP4 or any other promising leads. I am not sure which version of exchange this is but I am trying to find out.
I am fully updated on all devices. I am not sure how to proceed here and would appreciate any advice.

    Bueller…. Bueller….Bueller
Looks like I am connecting to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2. I know at one point pre-2007 was not supported, is this still the case? If it is how can I get the calendar to connect up to the server?

  • Mail app on my mac keeps opening spontaneously

The mail app on my mac keeps opening spontaneously  with a bizarre email with blank address fields. I have done a virus scan, which shows nothing. Any ideas?

Son of a gun! I can reproduce this on my system, but only partially. I created a new Mac user, logged on, attached to one of my less-used mail accounts (mail only, not contacts), and typed various search strings into the search bar. I could get addresses into the pop-down list that this Mac user had never communicated with and had no stored mail for, but seemingly only addresses that my normal Mac user had communicated with using the same email account.
You are sure you don't share (and have never shared) an email account or Apple ID with these other users on your Mac?

  • Connecting my "mail" app on my mac to my email account on the net

Hi, if you could help me I'd be very grateful!
I have Mail on my mac - but for some reason whatever I do on it does not seem to affect my actual email account (with hotmail) so if I edit things or file it away it that will not happen on my hotmail account. My iphone is synced with my hotmail account and so if I do anything on that it affects and would be affected by my email account but not my mac version... when syncing my iphone I can sync it to the mail account on my computer that still leaves me with the problem of if I need to access my account on another computer I would have who knows how long backlog of emails unopened....
So the question I really want answered is how do I sync my computer "mail" to my actual email account?
    Thanks!
    Tash

Welcome to the Apple Community Tash.
iCloud is only intended to sync iCloud email across your devices, it doesn't sync 3rd party accounts such as hotmail.
Email is synced between devices because the account is an IMAP account, you might consider using your iCloud email address for mail instead if yo want it to sync, or...
You might contact hotmail, they may be able to upgrade your address to an IMAP account, some providers can and some can't.
Changing your known email address is always a pain to some extent, but it's a simple choice between missing out on the features you want or accepting the pain.
If you are using a mail application as opposed to a browser based service, you should be able to move your archived mail folders quickly and easily. Many people you mail will use the reply feature and start using your new address without thinking and you can email everyone in your contact file your new address for those of your contacts that use their address book instead of the reply feature. You could send them your new vcard too to make the process simpler for them.

I assume you created a .mac account in Mail. You might want to try deleting the account and recreating it. Assuming you Internet connection is good, it sounds like Mail doesn't understand where to get mail.

  • Can't Connect the Mail app to my Gmail Account

    Hey everyone,
Recently my gmai account stopped working with the Mail app on my 13" Macbook Pro Retina, running mountain lion. I have deleted the mail account and readded it, but it keeps saying the server isn't responding. This is becoming quite a problem as it is important that I reply to my emails as soon as possible, and without push notification on my mac it's proving difficult.
    Anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks,

What you have experienced, though annoying, doesn't necessarily mean someone has hacked your account, though if you were finding that you were blocked because the sending limit had been reached that might indicate that you had been hacked.
What can happen is that when people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
There are two methods. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
The other problem is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam. However changing your password on general principles is a good idea.

  • Mail app on the Mac can't connect.

    Hey guys,
I'm using a MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2012) and I can't get any new mail.
I only have 2 email accounts in this mail app and both are iCloud emails.
Why do I get this error?

OK, there has been a structural change I was unaware of -- click on the arrows beside the name of the smtp server, with that server selected (has check mark) choose Edit. In the resulting dialogue, choose the Advanced settings tab, and then report the Port selected for this Outgoing?

  • Mail not sending using .mac accounts

For years, I've had multiple .mac accounts. I've only had one listed as my official .mac account while the others I sent up in Mail as IMAP accounts. This has worked wonderfully this entire time.
BUT NOW, none of my .mac accounts are sending! I've tried changing the port to 587. I've tried deleting the accounts and recreating them. I've tried all that I can think of. Everytime I try to send I get a popup window asking for my password. I type in my password and it is rejected. I know that it is the correct password because I can login to apple's .mac site and send just fine with the same password. I also know that it is not my ISP. I've connected to the Internet from multiple locations (home, work, friends houses, etc.) and still have the same problem (when I could send from all of these places a week ago). What gives? Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP with the Mail.app?
If so, are you able to send messages with this account?
If yes, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac accounts which is invisible to all recipients.
Then call your ISP to ask if any recent changes were made blocking the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network even if authenticated such as the .Mac SMTP server.

  • Mail.app problem or .Mac problem?

    Hi all,
I had posted the message below in the ".Mac mail on your desktop" forum but I was referred to this forum.
I don't know if something is wrong in my .Mac account, or if this is how .Mac webmail and Mail.app are supposed to work together. Let me give you an example:
I use Mail.app on my PB and iMac at home. During the day, I use .Mac webmail at work. Let's say I send an e-mail at 3:00 PM with webmail. It will sit in my Sent Messages folder with the date the message was sent firmly planted in the header, along with From/To and Subject.
Then I go home and open up the PB, fire up Mail.app at 8:00 PM, and what do you know, that same e-mail now has NO date in the header (only From/To/Subject), and in the "Date Sent" column of my Sent Messages folder, it says it was sent at 8:00 PM. I might move to the iMac another two hours later, and the "Date Sent" column will then say that message was sent at 10:00 PM.
You get the idea. The actual time that the message was sent disappears from the header, and in the Date Sent column it is replaced by whatever time Mail.app connected to the server. So my e-mails don't appear in the order they were actually sent. Being borderline obsessive-compulsive, I find this annoying.
In webmail, the actual time all these messages were sent is still very much available in the header, so I don't understand why the date doesn't just get transferred along with the From/To/Subject information.
Is there any way I can get my Mail.app Sent Messages folder to behave as an exact mirror image from the webmail Sent Messages folder? If it's possible for the Inbox, why not for the Sent Messages? Don't they both get their information in the same place, the .Mac server?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

    Hi David, thanks for replying.
I sent a message from .Mac webmail to my Hotmail account, and displayed the full header on the Hotmail side. I've copied the header below. It seems to me that the date sent info is there. If I am misreading the header, please let me know.
Is anyone else seeing this, or could someone with a .Mac account try to test this? Just send yourself a message using webmail, then see if Mail.app can read the date. Thanks so much.

  • Problem using Win 8.1 Mail app with corporate email account

I have a client where most of the PCs are running Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 installed and an on-premise Exchange 2013 server.
Even though they've been using Office 2013, now that they have Win 8.1 the staff now like to use the included Mail app for all their email as they say they get better notifications with it and some other "goodies" that Office 2013 doesn't provide.
It's been working okay for them as I haven't heard of any problems. Until now. Their domain passwords are expiring and when they change the domain password they have no problem with the PC itself and domain access and Outlook 2013 still works fine.
But now they're getting errors trying to continue to connect the Mail app to Exchange 2013. They keep getting a popup asking for credentials, their domain accounts get locked out (imagine that) after too many wrong logins I presume by the Windows 8.1 apps,
and when they do get the Mail app connected they see an error in the lower right corner of the window about a problem with the certificate. It says something about the name of I think the server not matching the certificate.
The cert is from GoDaddy and I know the names involved with the cert are correct. But that's the minor issue.
The main issue is with getting the 8.1 apps, particularly the Mail app, to recognize the updated domain password.
I have a Windows 8.1 VM setup and on the domain but when I try to configure it to connect to the Exchange server I get the error "Unable to connect. Ensure the information you've entered is correct."
It's pretty obvious what is supposed to go in each field so I'm sure I'm filling it out correctly. But because of this I can't use this test VM to work on the problem.
If anyone has an idea of how to deal with the Windows 8.1 Mail app and Exchange and changing the user domain password, I'd be appreciative of the help.
    Jonathan

    Hi,
    Thanks for your feedback.
With 8.1, you can now use the Mail app without having to have a Microsoft account.
A Microsoft account is an email address and password that you use to sign in to Windows. It's free and easy to set up, and you can do so with any email address you choose, or get a new email address. (For example, you can use an Outlook.com, Gmail, or Yahoo!
    address for your Microsoft account.)
However, you must sign with an email address.
Any way, if you have any other problem, welcome to contact us.

That is one way you can sign into Windows but not required. As I stated earlier, these PCs are domain joined and that's how they login to them. As for the Mail app, 8.1 means an MS account isn't required anymore.

  • Glitch getting Mail to access my .Mac account

Yesterday after I had had my powerbook on for a while, after Mail had opened on startup and automatically checked for and retrieved mail for my .mac account and a second separate account, Mail suddenly began asking me to log on. This was maybe about an hour after I'd started working. I'd been turned away from my screen for a while and when I jiggled my mouse to bring the screen on again (it was not sleeping, but the screen is set to go dark after a few minutes), there was this dialog box asking me to log on. (The second, non-.mac email account is functioning normally.)
I tried doing so but the system would not accept my password (even after trying several versions of that password). So now it's the next day and this problem hasn't solved itself... On a different machine at home last night I checked and Mail and my .mac account was functioning normally.
Here at work again I can log on to .mac and see my mail via Safari--so the problem is not that I've mis-remembered my password. The problem seems to be with Mail on this particular machine, rather than with .mac.
I've looked at Mail's preferences/accounts and everything seems to be set properly. Both email accounts are enabled and all the settings appear to be as they should be. Nothing corrupted-looking that I can see in those details.
But no more dialogs this morning about needing to log on to .mac, and that account in my Inbox is greyed out and there is an alert sign to the right of it--a circle with a squiggle in it (looks like a tilde).
Mail DOES allow mail to be sent via either account. I can use Mail to compose and successfully send test messages by selecting the .mac mail account (from the popup menu) to my second non.mac account, and use Mail to receive/read it. I can send email from this second account to my .mac account and receive the message--but only by logging on to .mac via Safari. Mail won't show it to me (as it had been doing so nicely and unproblematically for so long). As I said, the problem seems to be with Mail on this particular machine, rather than with .mac.
    Suggestions?
three G4 pwrbooks and an iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

But no more dialogs this morning about needing to log on to .mac,
and that account in my Inbox is greyed out and there is an alert sign
to the right of it--a circle with a squiggle in it (looks like a tilde).
This indicates the account has been taken offline which occurs when the account cannot connect to the incoming mail server for whatever reason.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Mailbox > Online Status > Take your .Mac named account online.
If this causes the same prompt to manually enter the account's password, decline and quit Mail and then try running Keychain First Aid on your login Keychain via Keychain Access.
