Help. Connecting Slingbox to Apple Airport ExtremeG wired to AEBSn to Cable

Ok guys I need your expertise here. To make a long story short this is what i have.
Cable modem to Apple Extreme N- and to Apple Extreme G through gigabit port. What i want to do is hookup the Slingbox Tuner to the Apple Extreme G through the single ethernet port.
How do i setup the routing and forwarding and on which device?
Anyone have a similar setup... In case your wondering its to keep Wireless N and legacy B/G seperate
Again Cable Modem--> ExtremeN- gigabit to - ExtremeG <--Slingox
Thanks

...and i see a section in the Admin Utility WDS tab that say Relay or Remote! Which one do i set it to? and is WDS the same as a Bridge?
You don't want WDS. That is used for wirelessly connecting base stations. It is not applicable when you are connecting them via Ethernet.
In "AirPort Admin Utility", to configure the AEBS as a bridge you would disable the option to distribute IP addresses.
Why does apple make it so hard to update software.. the firmware on this is 5.7 Where do i go to get the latest Firmware and Windows Software.
That is the latest firmware for that base station.
Also you mentioned to turn this into a Bridge, However i need the Round station to distribute IP's to B/G clients...
Why do you need that? In the dual band network you reference all the older AEBS is configured as a bridge. All of the clients (802.11n, 802.11b/g, and Ethernet) get IP addresses from the 802.11n AEBS.
...but im hooking up the AEBSn to the Wan port will this work?
Do you mean that you are connecting the internet to the round AEBS's WAN port? If that is the case then you want to operate the 802.11n AEBS as a bridge... not the round AEBS.

  • Can't connect Macbook to Apple Airport

I was in middle of watching a youtube video, it died about 1/2 way through. Then I noticed my MacBook status bar showed I wasn't connected to my wifi connection any more. My iPhone was still connected to my network with no issues at all. I tried to reconnect to my airport router, and it's giving me a timeout error on the connection. Also if I try to connect to one of the local unsecured wifi networks (which worked before) that is also not able to connect. wired connection on the mac works with no issues, it's how I'm posting this now. I've tried...
-removed 'airport' from the network preferences
-added new 'airport' listing in network preferences
-did a reset on my airport router, including changing the wpa password
-did a pram reset on my mac
-did a reinstall of the latest airport firmware to my airport router.
-tried different channels on the wifi settings via airport utility (all work fine for iPhone, not the macbook)
During troubleshooting my wireless connection came back, for about 5-10 minutes, than dropped again. I'm really not sure if this is a simple software (preferences file?) problem with my mac... or if the wifi card is going. I'm gonna take my macbook over to my girlfriends house, going there for dinner tonight anyway, and see if their wifi network will play nice.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Your question asked.....
Can either of these three connect to the existing router (which is not an Apple router and cannot be changed) wireless?
So we understood that you wanted to connect to the existing router using wireless.
If you can run an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your existing router to the other house, then you could connect one of the Apple routers that way.
Compare the Apple routers here to find one that might meet your requirements:

  • I can't connect Slingbox Solo to Airport Express

my slingbox solo is unable to connect to my airport express. I have the following hardware:
*Airport Extreme Base Station (in my office)
*Airport Express (in my living room) that i'm using to extend my network-- I currently have my stereo connected to this device, so I can play through itunes, and it works perfectly fine
    *Slingbox Solo
I'm trying connect my slingbox solo to my airport express, through the ethernet port, but it won't recognize the network. Is there additional set up required with regards to the network to make this functional?
    Would appreciate any direction....

The wireless security setting that the Actiontec modem/router is using may be different...and not compatible....than the setting that the Comcast product was using.
If you think that might the case, and you have the time to troubleshoot......
Temporarily, turn off the wireless security on the Actiontec modem/router
Reset an AirPort Express back to default settings, then see if it will connect using no security and allow an Internet connection when you do the Ethernet port test in the post above again.
If the AirPort Express cannot connect correctly using no security on the wireless network.....then it is a no brainer to know that it will never connect when security is enabled.  So, if the AirPort will not connect using no security, you may have an incompatibility issue between the Actiontec and Apple products.
However, if the AirPort Express connects OK with no security, then this tells you that you will need to use a different setting for security on the Actiontec...the same that the Comcast router was using before.....so the Express will have a better chance of connecting.
That setting would be something like WPA/WPA2 Personal, or the same setting stated another way would be WPA-PSK-TKIP.

  • Why is my iPhone 4s not connecting to my apple airport?

My iPhone 4s is not connecting to my AirPort Extreme. It keeps saying "An unexpected error has occurred. Try again." I have tried resetting the airport and no help at all. My macbook can connect with no issues, so I am confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - This worked for me - go to settings - choose Wi-Fi - press the arrow next to the network that you want to connect - choose "Forget This Network" - choose "Forget" - then press Settings and turn off the iPhone - turn it back on and wait it for it to reboot - then go to settings - choose Wi-Fi - press the Name of the network - enter the password and press "Join" - you should now be connected - let me know how you make out.

  • Please Help Connection problems G4 and Airport Extreme

I have a G4 Quicksilver and a Airport Extreme Base Station. Wireless internet has been working great for several years. Purchased a new G5 and moved my G4 upstairs one floor. The G4 airport connection worked fine for about one day. Now everytime the G4 sleeps or restarts it can't find the AEBS. Lines in airport icon on desktop turn from black to gray. I opened Airport Admin Utility and AEBS does not show up. I know the signal is getting to that room because I also own a G4 powerbook and can connect with it. If I open internet connect and turn airport off and on I can sometimes get the signal back and connect but loose it as soon as the computer goes to sleep. If I bring the G4 back down stairs where the AEBS is I can connect no problem. I took out the airport card and reseated it and made sure the antenna connection wash pushed in all the way but no luck. Any Idea?

You may check the following points:
    1. Do you have neighbouring wireless networks on the upper
    floor?
    2. What are your walls and floors made of? How many of them
are you crossing from your AEBS to your G4?
Are you passing through all of them perpendicularly?
    3. With Internet Connect open, try to move and turn your
G4 to improve the signal strength. Does it change a lot?

  • My apple airport Version 4.2.3 (423.0) is not working now. Can anyone help?

Hi, Can anyone help me with my apple airport Version 4.2.3 (423.0) which stopped working? My mac book pro 15 inch with MacOSX 10.4.11 is not detecting my apple airport!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Apple Airport Express - drops wifi connections after a day or two.....??

    Dear Users,
Can anyone assist me, I have 2 Apple Airport Express recievers and an Apple TV2 connected to my iMac. The Apple TV is connected via ethernet and a gigabit switch via the BT Infinity Router. The 2 Apple Airport Expresses are connected via wiresles to the BT router.
Everything works fine, music streams perfectly most of the time.
But after 24-48 hours of being dorment the Router seems to drop the wireless connections to the Apple Airport Expresses, if you reboot the router they connect again immediatley. I have adjusted the router settings to 802.1n, instead of 802.1n/b/g, which seemed to work better for a few days and the connection never dropped and now the problem has started again.
Frankly its not the end of the world, but it means I have to reboot the router everytime we want to use all zones for music, which when you have a wife that moans that 'my setup is too complicted and has to be rebooted everytime', it would be great to resolve this for once and all.....
Have a I missed something simple or do I need a new router/Airport Extreme?
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

The whole idea here is to test by first powering off your "extending" AirPort.
Then, take a measurement with your laptop at the location of the "extending" AirPort.....to see what quality of signal that it is receiving.  Remember, it can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives.
You would want to see a minimum SNR of 25 at the location of your "extending" AirPort Express.  Higher would be better. If it is less than 25, you need to move the "extending" Express closer to the "main" router so that it will receive a better quality signal to extend.
Once you have a location with a decent SNR of 25 or higher, then power the "extending" Express back up at that location.

  • Need help connecting to internet wirelessly

Please help. I just had Comcast high-speed Internet installed in my home yesterday. I opted for their free d-link modem and wireless router promotion. When I connect the modem directly to my g4 ibook, I have Internet access. However, I'm having trouble connecting the d-link router. (I swear I've read the directions, but I don't understand.) The Internet coaxial hooks to the modem. The modem hooks to the router. The tech at d-link told me to connect the router to my laptop to "configure it"--whatever that means. Apparently he did it for me through the Internet. But then when I unhook the router from the laptop to use the Internet wirelessly (that's the point, right?), I lose the Internet access. I consulted the Apple manual for help, but it seems to only give me directions for configuring my laptop for a wireless connection to an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. I'm not using an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have a d-link router. (The tech at Apple said they're the same thing.) Do I need to tell my computer to recognize the d-link router? How do I do that? I am very frustrated at what is probably something very obvious to all you computer-literate people out there. Please speak slowly for me.

Thank you for responding, Duane. Since I am at work right now, and my laptop is at home, I went to the AppleStore site to look up the specifications of my laptop. It has a built-in 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme (Wi-fi 812.11g). That's what you mean by an AirPort card, right?
So it seems I'm ready? You say to make sure AirPort is enabled? I will check that as soon as I get home, but I do recall the AirPort icon at the top (a gray icon that resembles radio waves) and I even clicked on it yesterday--from what I could tell through my tears of frustration--but I think it said "no network is available". What do you mean when you say choose my "network name" from the AirPort menu? What is a "network name"? I must be doing something wrong.
Based on my obvious cluelessness, you would be surprised at the ways I incorporate the use of technology in my classroom. I can teach my students to use Apple programs in amazing ways, but I am ignorant when it comes to a lot of the vocabulary that's necessary to work my way through this wireless router matter. Please bear with me.

  • HT1331 I just bought a airport wireless router I have a time warner cable modem. I have hook up the modem correctly to my new apple airport router and my modem is not working with the apple airport router. what do i need to do?

I just bought a airport wireless route and I have a time warner modem. My problem is my modem is not connecting to my apple airport router. What do I need to do?

Power cycle the cable modem.. you may try leaving it off 5min.. might be enough.. sometimes you need 15min or even longer.. Followed by power cycle of the AE.
Nothing else should be connected to the modem.. except the router that will get the public IP as they only hand out ONE>

  • Severe interference between Airport Extreme (802.11n) and my Cable Modem

This post is in reference to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=897496&tstart=30
The root cause of the problem reported in the above post was determined to be a case of severe electrical interference between the 802.11n device and a Motorola Cable modem supplied by Comcast. I can provide the modem model number for anyone wanting it.
I found that at least 12" spacing is required between the 802.11n and the modem to avoid any significant interference.
I also found that if these two devices are physically adjacent the data rate performance thru the modem can reduce to almost zero.
I speculate that the 802.11n is radiating so much radio energy that it causes electrical interference with the modem's function.
N.B. The Airport Snow does not exhibit this same electrical interference.

I would connect the xbox 360 to the Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable and from the Airport Extreme back to my router would be wirelessly.
If you intent to connect the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) wirelessly to the router, this router would have to be another AirPort or one of a very few non-AirPort products that will work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Would this cause any latency problems?
Most likely, but that will depend on the two routers used in the WDS. If both are AEBSns, then the throughput performance would be competitive with at least 10baseT or 100baseT Ethernet. If not, then using an Ethernet cable may be the better option.

  • Devices not connecting through Airport extreme wired connection

    Hi
I just got an Airport extreme to use as an extention of my existing network, and to plug some devices in so that they can connect to the internet for updates (Sony Blu-ray player, dish network receiver, slingbox)...
my wireless is from a linksys/cisco wireless router (4-port) wrt310n, that is connected to my cable modem. The airport is set and has the green light showing. The blu-ray player and dishnetwork receiver are plugged into two of the ports. The blu-ray player says it can't connect to the internet. The dish network receiver says it is connected, giving ip address/submask, etc.
If I take my macbook pro and turn off wireless and plug into the airport it will not connect to the internet.
What have I not done to allow wired connection to the airport extreme to connect to the net?
    thanks
    David

Thanks for the clarification of your setup.
Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that this is not going to work.
The ethernet ports on the Extreme will only be active if you configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". But, it can only "extend" a wireless network from another Apple router. It's not compatible for this purpose with your Cisco router or any other manufacturer's router.
If you are unable to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal.
I should clarify that if you connect the Cisco and AirPort Extreme using ethernet, you would not use the "extend" setting on the AirPort Extreme. This is only used if the device is connecting to another Apple router.

  • Apple TV works wired but doesn't work with Airport

    Hello everybody
    I have the following:
    o Mac Book Pro 13
    o Apple TV
    o D-Link WiFi Access Point (192.168.1.0/24)
    o Ethernet Network (also 192.168.1.0/24)
    o DHCP Server
Initially I connected to Apple TV via Ethernet. As long as my Mac Book is wired to the network (firewall disabled, 192.168.1.189), Apple TV (also wired via Ethernet, 192.168.1.182) is able to connect to my iTunes library and iTunes finds Apple TV and everything works just fine. However, as soon as I connect my Mac Book via WiFi (192.168.1.200), the connection between these two devices is lost.
As a network administrator this confuses me quite a lot. I thought, that the communication between these two softwares is a typical client server connection using daap protocol. For me it would be logical that iTunes connects to Apple TV on startup and establishes the network connection. Obviously I am wrong!
What do I have to do, to make these two devices communicating while my Mac Book is wired as well as WiFi'ed to my private network? Any help is appreciated.
    So long, Stefan

OK, I tcpdump'ed the network traffic on the wifi network adapter while opening iTunes. There are many mdns (bonjour) packets, even from the Apple TV box. That most probably means, that the two devices are being found using bonjour. The Apple TV box also sends the following request to my iTunes:
    +GET /ript/readytoconnect?machine-id=0x2D19D2D21EE788ED HTTP/1.1+
