Help connecting to HD TV using HDMI

Hello,
I have had problems connecting using my airport to my Samsung HD TV. One post said to try connecting using an HDMI cable first directly. But I am trying to find how to do that. The cables are HDMI but there is no HDMI port. There doesn't seem to be any for ethernet or USB which is what the IBook has. Help, this has been extremely frustrating.

The only video port in the iBook G4 is the 'mini VGA' which requires an adapter to work.
And finding out if there is an adapter capable of the support you hope to achieve for
the HDMI panel TV would require reading the specs on the adapters sold by Apple.
Various TV models have different ports, too; some probably won't work with old iBook
due to lack of digital. Some TVs with PC ports can use analog adapters... What model
Samsung do you have? With that, is where you could begin a google Adapter search.
Powered 'analog to digital' adapters can run upwards in cost, if needed.
Or, if those ones are no longer sold in the Store, maybe check through reseller retail
locations; or companies online such as welovemacs.com. More recent Mac adapters
would probably be available through the online Apple store; or authorized resellers.

• VGA to DVI adapter? something like this, maybe:

The later MacBook & MB/Pro support different displays and use adapters with other
specifications; though some do look like the older PowerBook/iBook versions.
So, if you have a newer 'intel-based' MacBook, that'd use a different mini-adapter
then a PPC G4 PowerBook or iBook G4. And the graphics support in PowerBooks
and newer MacBook/MacBook Pro are also different than iBook G4 or early PBook.
You say you are use an AirPort to connect to Samsung HD TV... most kinds of
attachments between products would require cable adapters or custom cables.
There are other earlier discussions online where this kind of issue was asked:
http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-690921.html
The HDMI is a digital signal, but the video-out port in the iBook may be only analog;
so adapters would have to convert analog to Digital. Unless the panel TV has a
PC port for analog support in addition to the fancy digital port. That'd take another
cable, and a suitable adapter for the iBook G4.
If you are not using a G4 PPC portable computer, perhaps your post could
be moved by the host, to a newer M'Book discussion forum. Please advise.
Good luck & happy computing!

If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input?  I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried.  I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

    Hello

I can get them paired but when I select the lg device listed on my HTC phone it does nothing.  I want to connect them so I can transfer the pictures from my old device to my new device.
    Hi Cheryllb,
Thanks B33, as you are correct that this cannot be done via Bluetooth transfer. There are, however, ways that Cheryllb can get this done. Cheryllb, do you have a memory card in your LG Voyager? If so, you can save the pictures to the memory card (just go through your pictures, highlight them, press Menu, then move to card or "external memory" is how it may be displayed). Then, you can remove the card from the Voyager and either use it in your new device, or transfer the pictures using a card reader and put them on your PC.
To transfer Picture Messages from wireless device to PC:
    1.        Access photo from "My Pictures" and choose "Options."
    2.        Select  "Move" or  "Transfer."
    3.        Remove memory card and insert card and card reader in USB port.
    4.        Go to your file directory on the PC.
    5.        Transfer files to the folder of your choice.
If you do not have a memory card, you are able to connect your Voyager to a USB Cable and transfer the pictures from the device to the PC. Once that is done, they will be in a file. You can then hook up your new phone to the PC with it's USB cable and put the pictures on the new phone, by dragging and dropping that folder into the folder for your new device.
I hope this information is helpful and allows you to find a resolution to transfer your pictures from phone to phone. I do understand how important these pictures can be.
Thanks very much and have a great day!

  • Need help connecting to network printer using xfce and cups

    Hello
please can someone assist me with setting up a printer.
I am running arch and xfce desktop.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 USB printer connected to a wireless Belkin all-in-one Print Server.
I do not know how to connect to this printer.
I am not conversant in CUPS or network printing and would very much like to use the printer.
My arch box is connected through cable to a wireless router.
The print server is connected to the wireless router and the router confirms the print server is attached to the network.
The print server IP address is 192.168.0.100.
The printer server has a web interface which I used to set wireless and TCP settings. I should say that I went into this interface and configured the print server which is totally usable and fine from a Vista laptop using wireless - vista laptop "sees" the print server and prints over wireless, therefore I know the server and printer are working together and all the print server settings are fine. I dont know how Vista connects, it just does!
I tried installing gutenprint and foomatic, went into the CUPS server page (localhost:631) and found my printer but I'm not sure if my connection string (socket://192.168.0.100:9100) is correct. I've tried several values and several Epson drivers from the CUPS web interface, all to no avail. I just get this message:
    bash-3.2# lpstat -t
    scheduler is running

printer Epson now printing Epson-0. enabled since Sat 26 Jul 2008 22:53:35 BST

I have no desire to be a CUPS expert nor a networking expert - I was rather hoping someone could guide me through the process, I have tried reading web links (google) but do not understand various pages and instructions.

    EDIT:
    SOLVED!
the problem was that gutenprint needed to be installed.
I looked at the rastertops file in /usr/lib/cups/filter and it was very small, handfull of lines, but refered to gutenprint (whatever that is).
"pacman -Q gutenprint" revealed it was not installed.
    All is fine now.
    GREAT!

    Hey @Davidm123 ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with poor video output to your projector.
According to the product page you have linked, the projector has a native resolution of 320 x 240. This would likely explain the poor video output.
You should be able to confirm the resolution settings in the Screen Resolution menu of Windows by right clicking on your Desktop and selecting Screen Resolution.
    Thanks.

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.

  • Macbook Pro 13 (June 2011) and Sony Bravia connectivity using HDMI port.

    Hi,
I have searched many forums and posts here and there, but no where got the perfect solution, also most of the places people are misxing the problems with other problems.
My Problem: I am not able to see even Sovy TV in my MBP display page, and hence not able to connect to Sony Bravia to my MBP.
What I am using: Macbok pro 13 June 2011, Lion 10.7.2, Sony Bravia 40EX550, DVI Mini Adaptor for Mac (at one side DVI male connector and other side female HDMI connector) and one HDMI cable (the cable which comes with my DTH provider both ends are for Male HDMI pin)
I do not think i would require anything more in this.
Now after connecting with Adaptor to my MBP i connected the other end to HDMI cable which was already connected to HD TV HDMI port (there are 4 ports and i tried all the ports)
When i opened the System Pref -> Displays I got below screen
Here in above screen I clicked on Detect Displays but nothing happens, actually it should detect the Sony Tv and there on I sohuld do some settings.
Please any one can help on that. Sorry for this repeated kind of problem , but I have searched in many forums and here on discussion.apple.com also , but evywhere people are mixing 2 different problem into one, some people are not getting the display and few of them not event getting the detection of the HDTV. So I posted here for the later one.

Right now your MBP is not recognizing the TV.  You should get a display in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DISPLAYS similar to this.  Note the 'Arrangement option in the menu bar.  Your connections are bad or you have a faulty cable and/or adapter.
I assume you are using a MINI DISPLAY PORT/HDMI adapter, not a DVI adapter.
    Ciao.

    pretty pretty please!!

    Hello ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot having no display on the external display.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
