Help connecting to Printer

I just got a new macbook and I am trying to hook it up to my old printer (an HP 1350 all-in-one).  I can load it onto the computer but it will only print a test page but not any documents or anything. An error message comes up saying "cannot connect to the printer". I tried to uninstall and redo but the same thing happened. I am not sure if I am uninstalling it correctly.  Any suggestions? Help please.

Print Drivers in OS X are different than on Windows. On OS X, manufacturers can write/develop drivers that ONLY work with the communication protocol that they want for that printer. HP provides a USB-only driver for your printer. It can't work with Windows printing in Print & Fax. The data path of the driver bypasses CUPS backends (Windows Printing is a backend in CUPS terms) and Only communicates via USB.
There is an open source driver that works with CUPS, but I have no experience with it:
http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/
It also requires foomatic and ghostscript:

  • Help connect network printer to AP Express joined to an AP Extreme

I have an AP Extreme network that I have added a AP Express (joined not extended) and thought I could connect my HP LaserJet 2000TN via an ethernet cable to my AP express. But I can not find the printer when I try to print.
Both APs are n. The AP Extreme is connected to a cable modem via ethernet. The printer is in another room and floor level so thought this would be much easier than running an ethernet cable through the floor to the AP Extreme.
I think I need the printer IP address but not sure how to find that, but I kind of think it is more that that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

You may have to visit the printer manufacturer's web site and look into their support pages to get a print driver for your Mac, and install it. Or see if you can see if a driver may already be in your Mac by checking settings, since there are many drivers already installed in Mac OS X.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

  • Just bought a mac and trying to connect to printer? help!

Hi i just bought a macbook pro, and i am trying to connect my macbook to a printer
it is a Brother DCP-135C printer
im lost as to what to do, i have tried everything :/

If you connect the printer via USB and got it to print anything, you know it is basically working.
If you want to print via WiFi, you need to tell the printer what IP Address to use, and what the WiFi password is so that it can talk on your Network.
On some printers, you can configure this over the USB connection in advance. On others, you have to use your fingers on its Control Panel (on the front of the Printer chassis).
If you have a WiFi Network that uses 10.11.12.1 as the Router address, a good place to assign for the Printer is above the addresses normally given to computers, but below .254. .200 is usually a good choice if you have not already assigned it. For a 192.168.0.1 Network, 192.168.0.200 is usually available.
Then you have to tell it the network password, so that it can talk on the Network.
Then you should launch Network Utility and try to send it two or more Ping's and see that it answers.
You may find this article helpful:
OS X: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
Once it answers, Use Add-a-Printer, but do not use the default Browser. Use IP Browser, and specify its IP address. You also need to know whether it will use Internet Printing Protocol, LinePrinterDaemon (LPD), or hp JetDirect Socket (which is used by more than just hp printers). This information should be in your manual.
If it sees the Printer at the Address you specified, it will make sure the correct Driver is in place for you.

  • How do I use my ethernet connection for printing on my LAN and use my Wifi on a different router and ISP to connect to the internet?

I'm in a small office, and I have to use my ethernet connection to connect to the networked copier to be able to print, but connection to which I hooked my Time Capsule is literally 20x faster when connecting to the internet.
How can I tell the computer to use the ethernet connection to print, while everything else should go through wifi?
I have been manually going back and forth changing the order in Network Preferences between ethernet and Wifi, but I'm know there must be an easier way.  Thanks for your help!

A packet going to Apple is not local. It is going to 17.149.160.49  -- So it is sent to the topmost working connection to be Routed and sent to the Internet.
A packet going to a local computer or other device that is on the same subnet (has an IP address very close to the topmost IP Address of your computer) gets sent out that port as well, but is sent directly to that computer on the local subnet, since no Routing [changing of Addresses} is needed.
A packet going to a local computer or Printer or Network Attached Storage device that is not on the topmost subnet, but is on a secondary subnet such as the second network connection would be sent directly to that computer, since no Routing is needed.
I do not understand why two Routers have the same IP Address if they are not cross-connected. That makes everything very difficult when it should be simple.

    Hello jbsarts,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a connection error.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning.  The document may have "Scanning" in the Title, but it will troubleshoot the issue just the same.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

  • How to connect 6510 printer to ID

I have a wireless 6510 printer now need to know how I can connect IPAD so I can print from the IPAD

    Hi @lmadubuque
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you would like to learn how to setup your Photosmart 6510 printer so you can print from your iPad.
Please start by connecting the printer to your wireless network. This can be easily accomplished from the front panel of the printer. If you are unsure how to do this the steps can be found in the Photosmart 6510 User Guide on page 37, in the section titled “To connect the product with the Wireless Setup Wizard”.
Once the printer is connected to your wireless network and if your router supports Bonjour  communication you should now be able to print using Apple’s AirPrint feature.  I’ve included 2 different documents on using Apple’s AirPrint with HP printers.  The first one is Printing from Your Apple Device with Non-Web-Enabled Printers (No Apple AirPrint or HP ePrint Suppor... and the second one is How to Use Apple's AirPrint Over a Wireless Network.
If you want more options than what is available with AirPrint (see Apple’s AirPrint Basics document) you can download and install HP’s ePrint Mobile app.   I’ve included the HP ePrint Mobile App FAQs document for reference.
If you would like to scan with your iPad please download HP’s All-in-One Printer Remote app.  The app will allow customers, with a supported printer, to scan documents to their iPad.  I’ve included the HP All-in-One Printer Remote Mobile App FAQs document for reference.
If you would like to setup HP’s ePrint feature, the first step would be to Get the Printer’s Claim Code. Once you have the printer’s claim code you would add it to your HP ePrintCenter or HP Connected account (HP Connected has only been rolled out to the USA, the UK, Germany and France), and then you have the option to Customize the ePrint Email Address.  I’ve also included the Getting Started with ePrint document which will explain how to print with ePrint and also has an FAQ section.
If things go awry, please let me know at which step things went hairy and if you received any error messages.

  • I can't connect or print wireless

I have the hp photosmart c4780 and I used the USB wire to connect it to my computer after installing the software off the internet as I lost the software it originally came with. So with that being said, on my little Eee asus netbook windows 7 I can print with the printer when it's connected via USB only! Also I use my printer mainly for printing coupons or documents, and if anyone's familiar with <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> then you'll know they have an app for most all tablets and smart phones and so I downloaded it on both my ipad 2nd generation and my iPad mini, and I was able to print coupons wirelessly via the coupons app only, not via the <a href="http://www.coupons.com" target="_blank">www.coupons.com</a> through my safari browser. So I'm just not sure why I can't get it to connect wirelessly, when I went through the installation and set up process I went through the option of switching to wireless rather than USB and I thought it went smoothly but any other way I try to print from my computers or iPads it will say that the printer isn't discovered. I've also made an account with th hp connect, I've got the eprint hp app on both iPads and I'm having no luck! Also, my printer is just now I'm noticing also, offline i dont know how that happened, but when I printed the wireless network test report along the top it's saying that &quot; MAC ADDRESS FILTERING MAY BE ENABLED ON YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER, THIS CANT PREVENT YOUR PRINTER FRIM CONNECTING TO YOUR WIRELESS NETOWRK DURING SETUP. IF YOU DO HAVE MAC ADDRESS FILTERING ENABLED AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT ENABLED YOU MUST ADD THE MAC ADDRESS OF YOUR PRINTER TO THE LIST OF PERMITTED DECICES FOR YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER BEFORE CONTINUING. THE MAC ADDRESS FOR YOUR PRINTER CAN BE FOUND ON THIS TEST REPORT.***&quot;<br>And I can see below on the print out where my MAC address is, however this isn't helpful because I don't know what MAC address filtering means nor if it's bad or good, or how I can change it accordingly. And in the diagnostics summary below it says NO FILTERING: FAIL<br>I'm unsure as to what that means?<br>So if anyone can help me I'd so greatly appreciate it,<br>I also tried to find that claim code that I was supposed to be able to find when i do the print out on my printer and I can't see it on the test report or the configuration page.<br>So, so far I've just reset the printer itself to default settings. And from here...well...as you can see..<br>I NEED HELP!?!?<br>Please and thank you!

    Hi HBS4026,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I think that the root issue you are experiencing is the printer is not connected to your wireless network, and as a result you are running into several issues.
wikiHow’s How to Find the MAC Address of Your Computer has a nice and non-techie description of what a MAC address is and how to find it.  By turning on the MAC filtering for your router, is a way of telling your router that only the devices with an approved MAC address will be allowed to connect to your network.
Most customers with home wireless networks don’t use this feature, as it can take more time to maintain than a person would like to give.  It requires that you add/maintain the MAC address of any device that will be connecting your to network, including, but not limited to, iPads, tablets, Smartphones, iPhones, computers, laptops, etc.
Please start by turning the router off. If your router doesn’t have an on/off switch, please disconnect the power cord.  After waiting a full 60 seconds please turn the power back on (or plug the power cord back in).  Hopefully the network test report will give us a pass on No Filtering.
If MAC filtering is turned on (I suspect it is on) and you don’t want to use this feature, please contact the manufacturer of your router on how to turn this off.    I do think this is the root of your connectivity issues.
Once you have confirmed that MAC filtering is off  we should be able to get everything working wirelessly by following the information below.
Let’s start with your Windows 7 laptop.  I’ve included the How Do I Find the Best Windows 7 or Windows 8 Driver for My Printer? document.  It will walk you through downloading HP’s Printer Install Wizard.  This will also help you connect the printer to your wireless network while ensuring you have the right driver for your printer.
Once you’re printing from your laptop wirelessly, please try test printing something from the notes app on your iPad.  If your router supports Bonjour, the communication method for Apple’s AirPrint feature, you should have no problems printing.  If you are unsure, I have included a post by Shirlzz1 that will walk you through downloading an app to check.
As for printing from coupons.com using the Safari browser on your iPad it comes down that the iPad is considered a mobile device requiring the app as an interface.
I think I’ve addressed everything that is plaguing you.  If I haven’t please let me know.  In addition, if anything goes askew while doing the above, please let me know at which step things went wonky and the contents of any error messages and where they were displayed.

    Hi @Sunshyn2005
I timed-out waiting for advice, and contacted HP Support, who helped me get the printer back on the air.  While we didn't manage to root-cause it, in the course of trying various things, the tech disabled Norton 360's firewall, which then allowed connecting to the printer, and restoring print service, which remains up after re-enabling the firewall.
The timing of the disconnection doesn't neatly corellate with any Windows updates.  My own theory is that it was caused by a 360 update, but am unable to find a smoking gun, since 360 doesn't provide update history.  The exact root-cause remains a mystery, but at least provides another thing for folks to try should they find themselves in similar straits.
I really appreciated your hint that a Windows update might be the root cause, and your pointing out how to review the history and back-out updates: this morning, I found that Windows had installed a batch of updates overnight, and found that no browsers worked.  Using your advice, I rolled back the update, restoring browsing.
    Thanks,

  • Please help with wireless printing

I am running a wireless network in the house and having trouble printing. The printer (Canon MP800) is connected via USB to my Windows XP desktop. The desktop is connected via Ethernet to a 2Wire DSL modem that broadcasts the wireless signal to my Powerbook G4 running OSX (10.4.10). I can’t get the powerbook to print, though.
I have followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html up to the point where it says:
“Select the printer but do not click Add as you need to change the Printer Model.”
    “Under Printer Model select HP.”
I assume that since I am using a Canon that I should look for Canon instead of HP. The only options I get are
    Generic
    Other
    Apple
    ESP
“Generic” is a selection all by itself
“Other” opens up a finder dialog box that allows me to choose a file on my harddrive, but I have no idea where to go.
“Apple” opens a pulldown menu that allows me to select from a list of Apple printers.
“ESP” opens a pulldown menu that allows me to select from a list of other printers. This list includes Epson, HP, etc. but does not include any Canon printers.
I selected the “Generic” option. When I try to print from the powerbook, I have noticed that the printer queue on my Windows XP desktop shows a document entitled “Remote Downlevel Document.” The printer queue spools up with this document, it appears to go through the cycle and then disappear (as a normal print document does), but nothing happens on the printer.
The desktop will print normally. The powerbook will print normally when I connect the printer to it via the USB cable but another printer is created in the Printer List. This printer is named MP800 and is kind: Canon MP800 whereas the first attempt (wirelessly) names it Canon MP8 and is kind: Generic Postscript Printer.
In troubleshooting I have attempted to remove and reload the printer from both the powerbook and the desktop independently to no avail. I have even temporarily removed the firewall (Norton 360) from the desktop to make sure that wasn’t it.
I Googled the term “Remote Downlevel Document” and discovered that it was associated with a virus that affects print servers. I updated my Norton anti-virus and did a full system scan which came up clean. Some of the Google results also suggested that there might be clutter in one of the printer folders in Windows. I should remove any .tmp files I find there, but when I followed the path, there were no such files in that folder.
I apologize for the length but I wanted to make sure I had a full and accurate account in case someone might be able to point me in the next appropriate direction. Thanks for whatever advice you can offer.
I am cross posting this question on the macbookpro yahoo group, the applemac yahoo group and the apple discussion page.

still looking for some help on this intriguing matter... if anyone can help out, i'd really appreciate it! thanks.
    edited original post:
I have a Samsung ML-1710 printer which we use with both an iMac and an iBook. When the iMac needs the printer, we connect the printer's USB cable to the iMac. When the iBook needs the printer, we connect the printer's USB cable to the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Both the computers use the AEBS - the iMac is connected via ethernet (DSL modem) and the iBook connects to the AEBS wireless network.
The small annoyance of having to change the USB cable aside, there is a bigger problem. After every time the printer is used by the iMac, printing does not go through on the iBook. The only solution I've found is to restart the AEBS (through AirPort Admin Utility). As this interrupts the wireless network, it is a major annoyance.
I do not want to spend $ on an Airport card for the iMac at this point...
Is there any way to correct this? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Lion 10.7.5 cant connect to printer via Buffalo print server

    Hi everyone,
I'm at my wits end with this one having spent over 20 hours on it.
I have a Macbook Air running Lion 10.7.5 and a Macbook running OSX 10.6.8.  I have a Photosmart 8050 printer attached to a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CH1 running firmware 1.60 (the latest version for this model).  The Linkstation has a printserver which is attached via USB to the printer, the Linkstation is attached to a wireless router, for amound other things, wireless printing.
The long and the short of my problem is, I can get the Macbook running 10.6.8 to print without a problem, works fantastic, but I can not get the Air running 10.7.5 to print through the print server even though the printers are installed the very same way on both machines.  The error from the print que is "unable to connect to printer" even though it seems to connect successfully to the Linkstation, as in my setup a username and password must be entered to access the printer, even though a user is logged in to the file server.  Not to get confused, I am 99% convinced the problem is with the Macbook Air running 10.7.5.
I installed the printers using the Windows method, Workgroup -> Linkstation -> Printer then selecting the HP 8000 series driver version 5.0.4.  I have also tried every other install method available, however as I understand it, this is the recommended method for this print server setup.
I have checked the network setup, driver versions and even though it does not seem to cover my printer have GutenPrint 5.2.9 installed.
The printer does work when connected directly to USB however.
If anyone has any idea why I cant get the Macbook Air running 10.7.5 to print via the print server on the Linkstation when 10.6.8 works perfectly, then please HELP!
    Thank you

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait for few  minutes.
