Help!!! Control individual tracks on a multitimbral soft instrument

Hello!
Could anyone let me know how to work with tracks on a multitimbral soft instrument track so that one may, for instance, solo/ mute and use automation on one track without affecting all the others?
I am using a PC as slave with instruments assigned to this multitimbral instrument, having as many aux tracks in the mixer (in logic-the host) as I do have instruments on the slave.
Thanks so much!!

First, when you set up your first software instrument track, did you specify that it is multitimbral? If not, then make it so. (I typically only ask for one multitimbral track initially, and use Command-M to add the next track with the next consecutive midi channel, as I build my arrangement.)
Second, you'll need to assign OUTPUT PAIRS to each midi channel -- this is done in your multitimbral software instrument on that first multi track (as opposed to in Logic). For instance, MIDI channel 1 should be assigned output pair 1-2, midi channel 2 assigned to output pair 3-4, etc. -- all the way through midi channel 16 being assigned to output pair 31-32. (What software inst are you using? I've done this with both Kontakt Player 2 and SampleTank -- each one works TOTALLY differently!).
This takes some time to do, so I HIGHLY recommend saving your project as a TEMPLATE in Logic, so hopefully you'll only have to do this once.
The last little "secret" is that on the FIRST (primary) multitimbral track (in the Mixer (Cmd-2)), there is a little "+" sign toward the bottom that you don't see on other kinds of tracks. Clicking the "+" creates a new aux channel for mixing, muting, soloing, adding effects to that specific multitimbral track, and you can check that the assignment of output pairs is correct for this track's unique midi channel also, by clicking and holding on the instrument name on this aux channel. This means you will now have TWO tracks for each part: one for the midi info, and the "+"-assigned aux channel for mixing and effects. In the Arrange window, select "Display Off" in place of "Volume" for the mid tracks, and then you can select "Volume" or "Pan" or whatever for automation, on the appropriate Aux track.
The other thing that becomes ESSENTIAL using multitimbral instruments is track LABELLING. LOL This two-tracks-for-each-part thing can becomes a real hairball without clear labeling practices.
Once you get it all set up, using only one instance of a multitimbral instrument for up to 16 tracks saves a TON of ram and processing overhead, and it works like a charm in Logic.
Good luck!

  • Help! Individual tracks somehow ended up in trash!

I just went to work on a song I recorded a few months back. I recorded a new vocal the other day. Tonight I went to do more work on it and found 18 aiff files from that song in the "trash." I don't know how they got there, maybe a mistake I made the last time I worked on the song. Only a few of the tracks play, it's all messed up now. I tried dragging the aiff files from the trash to try to re-construct the song. Didn't work. I spent a lot of time with this song and don't want to start it all over. Can anyone help me? I'm desperate. I hope the answer to this is simple!

Hang- I figured something out at least. Before your suggestion I went to the song's workpage. I played the song and unlocked each "muted" track or track which I thought was trashed. The tracks, one by one, reappeared! I feel both stupid, puzzled, and proud at the same time. Never thought it was possible. But I'm going to copy your advice and throw it in a folder for future reference in case any other strange occurrences happen. Thank you sir. I think I can repair this thing now. Thinking back I believe I trashed the original mix of the song, which I had long ago shared to ITunes, and dumped it from ITunes into the trash. What a fool.

  • Adding or Deleting individual Tracks/Songs from iPod Nano-How to?

I want to find out how to load individual tracks (instead of entire folders or artists) from the library to my ipod nano.  If that is not possible, then can I at least get help deleting individual tracks from my song list on my ipod nano???  When I have the songlist up and right click, nothing but play, rating, or get info information pops up.  In the editing window above the delete option is faded out.  I want to get all the songs I like to listen to, not all or nothing.  Please help....

    VyteSnake,
Are you manually manging your music?  In other words, do you have the Manually manage music and videos option ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab?  I only ask because it sounds like you are trying to manually remove tracks from your iPod.
Another option is to set your iPod up to sync only checked songs and movies by enabling this option from under the Summary tab.  Then make sure each track you wish to sync to your iPod has a tick mark next to it in your main iTunes library.  If you don't want it synced over, remove the tick mark.

  • EZDrummer - mapping drums to individual tracks?

I've already asked over at the EZD support forum, but only got one response having to do with Cubase. I was wondering if there were any Logic users here who know how to map each drum from EZD to individual tracks instead of having the midi loop/pattern all reside on one. This way, I can add effects, eq, etc... to each drum kit piece as well as give me more control over mix levels and so forth.
    Any assistance appreciated!

Did you download the Logic template here (hopefully it will work in Express):
    http://www.toontrack.com/free_downloads.asp
Also, are you using EZD -> multi-channel -> AUX
That will give you control of each EZD mixer output in Logic's auxs for EQ, effects, etc. To demix each instrument to place on MIDI tracks seems impractical as there are at least 10 different notes for hats alone, I recall.

  • HT1473 I purchased a cd and downloaded to my itune library, but I can not see it as an ALBUM, only individual track?

I purchased a CD and downloaded all the 16 songs in Itune Library? When I went to my Itune to open the album of 16 songs, instead I saw 16 individual track with no name or title? I don't want to see individual track, I want to see as an album. Can any one help?
    Thanks

Not sure what would cause that. Try deleting all the songs and re downloading them.
From iTunes Store go to Purchased in Quick Links on the right.

  • Creating albums and moving individual tracks

I have quite a few compulation CDs that were created in the mid to late 80s and when I imported them into my iTunes library they were imported as individual tracks with no MP3tag info. Is it possible to create an album and move these individual tracks in that newly created album? I know that I can add the song title artist and album name to the tracks but I cannot fiqure out how to create an empty album to put them into. Please help.

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
There's no such thing as an empty album in iTunes. Simply select some tracks that you want to link together, *Get Info*., give them a distinct Album title and set the *Album Artist*. For a compilation you should also set *Part of a compilation* to Yes on the Options tab.

  • Bouncing individual tracks creates 2 wav files for each..why?!!

When I bounce individually selected tracks from Logic Express, it creates a double wav file in my folder for each track I bounce. It didn't use to do that and I haven't changed any settings... Please HELP :/

By "double wav" do you mean that you are getting a separate audio file for left channel and another for right channel, something like this?
Be sure to check in your bounce window that you have "interleaved" checked instead of "split."
Depending on how you're exporting/bouncing your tracks this may not help, but you can always solo the desired track and bounce your song with "interleaved" selected to get a single stereo file of that individual track.

  • How do I inport an individual track from a CD to itunes 12?

The latest version of iTunes (12) *****!  Apart from the missing sidebar which has annoyed many, my new gripe is that I have not found a way of importing individual tracks from a CD into iTunes (& hence my I-pod).  The only way I've found to do it so far is to import the total CD and then delete the tracks I don't want from iTunes.......doh!!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hello ed2345,
Thanks for the answer and it works!  It's not as intuitive or easy as with the previous version of iTunes - where you could click and drag the tracks you wanted to import - but it's way better than importing all and then having to delete the unwanted tracks.  Good job.
Glad it helped.  Enjoy the music!

  • Really basic help needed bouncing tracks to mp3

    Hi
We have been working on some new music in MIDI format and really would like to have them available to play on our ipod. I have read the manual on bouncing to mp3 format. However I have 2 problems.
    1) Some tracks don't even allow my to bounce to mp3. When I try to select file>Bounce, I cannot select it as it is not available and is the light grey colour of unavailable items.
    2) The tracks that I have been able to bounce have no sound when I play them back in itunes or quicktime player.
What do I do to fix these two problems. Thank you for your help.

Hi and welcome to Logic Express,
First of all: Bouncing is usually done by bouncing from the Master Output Channel. You should see a small Bounce Button (Bnce) below the Fader (look to the left in the Inspector window - there are 2 Channel Strips. The Left is for the selected Track and the right one usually is the master Output (Out 1-2). Or you can select Bounce from the File Menu. Only Output Tracks can be bounced! You can't bounce individual tracks, but have to route them to an output. Usually, this routing is on by default, so if you didn't change it, it shouldn't worry you.
See if none of your tracks are muted and if you can actually play back the entire project and hear the desired result in Logic. If so, hit the bounce button below the master output (1-2) fader.
The second step is to select the right method of bouncing. There should be a popup menu now asking you about filename and so. Enter the desired filename and maybe another folder. If not, Logic names it Output 1-2.mp3, which isn't that bright. To the lower left, u should see some available file formats. Check mp3 (this is important!) first. Also select offline bounce, if not checked. Check if "normalise" is activated. If not, activate it.
Now, the options change to allow some mp3 specific tweaks. Use the ones you like. I use about 160kbits for stereo, normal stereo mode, and tweak all the ID3 Tags as desired. Also check "add to itunes library".
Now, before you bounce, check if the start and stop marks of the bounce are actually the same that you want them to be. Sometimes they snap to the last marked region, which isn't neccesarily the correct song length. I messed up some bounces before i got this right.
If everything looks good, hit bounce. Logic should bounce, normalize and convert to mp3 now. Wait some seconds for iTunes to get the song imported. There you are. If not, ask again

  • HELP! Export tracks of a multitrack project produces equal track file lengt

    Hi,
i have a problem with multitrack projects. I have one aiff file open on track 1, then split it and spread the parts each on one individual track. I then want to export the project. In this stage a folder with one file for each track is created. The problem now is, that every file for each individual track has the same size and length as the longest track.
For the moment i have to open each single track file in the editor and cut off the oversized part at the end.
I just know that this was working on STP2. How can i change the export so that each track's exported file is only as long as the track actually is in STP?
    Thanks for any help.
    Daniel

I have recordings which are usually 2-3 hrs long, and i need to split these into smaller files so they are convenient to listen to.
In STP2 i get used to open the large file in a multitrack project, put it on track 1, then cut it off into smaller parts and place each part on a individual track. Then export it. It was working really good and the result was exactly what i need.
In STP3 it also works, with one difference. Each file for all the individual tracks have their correct content, but are all of the same size/length, means all are the same size/length of the longest track.
    example:
lets say the large file is 60min long. I split it into 20 - 25 - 15 minutes. Put each onto a individual track and export all. Now all files are 25min long, but the shorter tracks are filled with a silent part to full the 25 min.
    I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

  • Burning mixed 5.1 songs to DVD-A as individual tracks?

    Hi All,
A noob around these parts and to Logic Pro 9 so please be gentle
After a fair bit of looking online I can't find the answer to my particular problem, which is...
I have recorded & mixed a jazz band in 5.1 on Logic Pro 9.
I have bounced the whole session as a 5.1 DVD-A disc with no problems but I want to be able to have each song as an individual track, not one long track with no breaks.
Is this possible to do in Logic 9 Pro or do I need another 3rd party bit of software?
    Any help much appreciated,
    Jon

    Hi, noisyjon.
Can you select each track as a separate region and use save as to write them as in dividual tracks. Another way is to use the locators ans select how much of the full track [the entire dvd] you want to bounce and save that file.
ie. say track 1 is from bar 0 to bar 71. select that in your bounce menu and logic will only bounce that portion of the project. You can also name it whatever you want in the bounce drop box. Repeat for each track.
    Hoe this helps,
    Regards,
    Scorpii.

  • Creating individual tracks from vinyl

I have just digitized an album. Each side is an aiff file that I split into individual tracks in Garageband. Now, I need to send the files to iTunes. Each time I try this, I'm getting one big 25 minute track instead of four individuals. Someone give me some help please.

either burn it to CD from within GB:

  • Bouncing individual tracks in mono

I'm currently working on an album, and I'm soloing and bouncing all my individual tracks so my friend can open them in his protools. The problem is, all the tracks come out stereo. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running Logic Pro 8.

I don't know if others are affected by this, but any track panned to the right is not bounced - effectively the master mono function just disables the right channel rather than summing to mono.
Let me know if this is the case in general so it can be reported...
    Cheers
