Help! Convert iPhoto folder back into a package!

I had to have my cloud backup company send me back a hard disk containing my iphoto library because my local copy was corrupted. When I received it today, the iPhoto library came back as a folder. It has everything in it, but it's viewed as a folder, not a package. So when I double click it, it doesn't open iPhoto. It's just treated like a folder.
How do I make it back as a package?

I doubt if you'll be able to restore your library to working order.  Keith's suggestion is worth trying but I'm afraid that all of the links between image files and database files are damaged beyond repair.
The following will be able to get your photos back in a new library with the same event grouping as you had (but probably not the same Event names).
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library folder and locate the Masters or Originals folder.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Putting Iphoto Originals folder back into Iphoto

I was looking for my imported photo files in iPhoto and found them using spotlight. I moved the "Originals" folder in order to access it more easily and was unable to return it to its original place in iPhoto. This is because the icon in my HD is not a folder icon, but the iPhoto Library application icon. Because the folder is moved, when I open iPhoto and go to my library or events, all of the pictures are gone. The Events are still outlined and the names are still there, but the pictures aren't. Does anyone know how to get the originals back into the right place so iPhoto can find it and put everything back in my library? Is there a "iPhoto Library" folder that is actually a folder and not an application icon? Does anyone know the file where the imported pictures are actually located? Any help is appreciated.

    Scallen
Congratulations. Now you understand why we say
*It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss*.
It sounds like you're using iPhoto 08 not v6 - I mention this as you're using the v6 forum.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right click on it and go 'Show Package Contents' from the resulting menu. Drop that Originals Folder in there and it might work.
There is never a need for you to access the iPhoto Library via the Finder.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Need help restoring iPhoto 08 Library into iPhoto 11

Ok, I have spent hours trying to figure this out on my own. I'm not being lazy but I need help!  I have a black macbook (2009) that had Leopard (not Snow) and iPhoto 08. It crashed. I had a time machine backup on external drive. I got a new hard drive installed and they upgraded me to Lion and iPhoto 11.  I messed up and started the system without hooking up to time machine. I tried to use migration assistant. It imported only imported 400 pics of my many thousand pics.
I did several things: I tried to rebuild the library, look for orphans, etc. I deleted the ProjectDBVersion.plist, Projects.db, Projects.db-journal files as someone suggested. I deleted the new iphoto 11 library. i dragged the my old iphoto library from time machine. I held down option and tried to build it again from the old library. I still get the same 400 pics. I even tried the free version of Photo Library Manager. It created the same library with 400 pics. (not sure if I know how to use this app right).
If I open the new iphoto 11 library, I can see my pics in the  "Masters" file.  I was able to drag these to my desktop and then put in iphoto but does this method save my edits? Should I drag the "Modified" pics into iphoto instead? I don't care much about keywords, I just want my edits. I also don't want old deleted photos put back into iphoto.
another question, time machine (TM) is not turned on yet with new hard drive and OS. it doesn't recognize my external drive as TM. It asks if I want to designate it as TM. If I do this, will it delete my old backup (with all my important data) and start a new backup of my new hard drive which doesn't have all the pics yet.
I don't have a copy of Lion so if I do a complete restore, I will have to buy it and add all info again. Is this my best option? Would it really make a difference?
    Terrance, you out there?
    Thanks for any help!

It might start backing up your new drive but will not erase what's on it as long as there is sufficient space. Also you can turn on TM and exclude your entire HD via the TM Options pane.
Then go to your Pictures folder and enter Time Machine.  Go back to the appropriate date, select the library and use the Restore button.
    OT
NOTE:  if you have trouble entering TM's backups go to the Lion forum and ask your question there.  Also do a search there for Time Machine so see if there are any similar topics there already.

  • Help with iPhoto and back up

    Hi
Can someone help me... In order to create more space on the HD of my 2007 iMac (500gb) i copied the iPhoto library to my external HD (La Cie) and then put original in the trash wit a mind to delete it and only boot iPhoto from the Lacie. After consultation on this site i realised this was a mistake as i should do that with a completely separate HD not the one I use Time Machine on! So I've put the orginal iPhoto library back in the pictures folder and it works fine when i select it BUT its now called an iPhoto PACKAGE with a folder as an Icon NOT iPhoto library with the flower icon. Does this matter or should I now delete this package and copy the original back from the LaCie which IS still called a library with the little flower icon... Sorry this is so long winded but I need to give you all the info.
    Thank you for your help.

Hi Yes it does all is normal with it and no lost images. Just the iPhoto icon has been replaced with a Package folder since being taken back out of the trash.
    Thank you

  • How 2 get edited photo from iphoto app back into iPhoto?

I have the new iPhoto app.
I can't seem to get my edit photos back into iPhoto on my imac.
I thought save to iTunes would do it but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Sure would like to just go back to my mac and find the photo updated.
I have the photo stream turned off and just sync with a cable.
    Problem 2
The photos and albums seem to be in random order.  This makes it almost impossible to find the photo I want to edit.
    Can anybody please help?

<If you are using the cable: Connect your iPad > open iPhoto > select your iPad on the left under devices > Import <button top right of iPhoto (blue button).

    <Do not import through iTunes.
Sorry - that was no help.
If I edit a photo in e iPhoto app then connect and bring up iPhoto on my mac the iPad device has no photos to import.
I have imported hundreds of photos from iPhones and iPads - I know how to import.
Even if there was a photo laying there to import - that is not what I want because...
Imagine if I had 100 photos then edited all 100 photos on my iPad.
Then if I imported them I would now have 200 photos in iPhoto on my mac.
I want the edited photo to update the original just as tho I edited it in iPhoto on my mac.
So I could "Revert to Original" if I needed to but probably never would.
So the question is when you share to iTunes where does it go?
Also the new album it creates "Edited" - What's the story on that?

  • Convert Windows folder.jpg into OS X custom folder icon

    Hello everyone,
after months reading numerous post on the Web trying to find a way to convert the Windows "folder.jpg" into an OS X custom folder icon, I've come up with a solution using only the shell. Some users proposed using the Automator, which caused me lots of trouble (Spotlight sometimes wouldn't find the folder, or would return a Privacy error, and so on). Therefore, my solution uses only a Shell script with dependencies on some external libraries (most of them allowing to manipulate images and icons).
    Here's the code on Pastebin.
I hope this will be as helpful for you as it was for me. It allowed me to apply the custom folder icons to thousands of folders, including the local Mac folders as well as the one on external storage (USB or LAN).

I have my itunes media stored on my external hard drive.  On this external drive I have a folder called "TV shows".  I previously cut and pasted itunes TV shows to this folder to free up some space.  How do I incorporate this folder (TV shows) back into the itunes library?

assuming the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked in preferences > advanced, drag the folder into an open iTunes window while holding option (⌥).

  • Is there a way to convert outlined text back into live text?

I have an Illustrator CS3 doc in which all text has been converted to outlines. (I wish I had an intelligent answer to the question of why I don't have the original doc with live text, but...) I remember seeing a post some time ago that explained how to change the outlines back into live text, which may have involved making a pdf or something, but I can't find that post anywhere in the Adobe forums. Does anyone know how to do this, if it can even be done? Thanks!

I had to test it. Yes, you can use Acrobat Pro to OCR the text. First you'll need to rasterize the outlined text in AI (at 300dpi bitmap) and save as PDF. Then open in Acrobat and go to "Documents>OCR Text Recognition" to convert the image to text. Click "Edit" in the "Recognize Text dialog window and select "Formatted Text & Graphics" to view only the text in Acrobat. Save and re-open in AI. The text will be editable, but broken into individual words. You can cut multiple words to the clipboard then click with the text tool and paste, to merge the text into a contiguous sentence, but you'll lose the spaces. Exporting as text from Acrobat may be a better route.

  • After preferences have been opened and closed, instead of folding back into the menu bar a grey square stays in the far left hand corner of my screen. This is then replicated on every screen. I can't seem to solve this, any ideas?

After using the preference pane, it does not fold away back into the finder bar but leaves a grey square in the top left corner of the screen. When I switch to another screen within spaces, the grey square still appears.

I have the exact same problem.. I tried disabling all add-ons and I'm only using the default theme... still no change. Whenever I close the preferences window it becomes an obtrusive grey square in the top left corner of the screen. It even obscures other open applications and won't disappear until I quit Firefox...

  • Need help getting tv shows back into itunes

Okay, a little explanation is required before I get to my question
I had some problems with my computer that to fix it, the geniuses did archive and install and deleted my user account, and set up a new one for me.
After this, I was able to recover everything, and deleted the previous system it had created in my hard drive. The only problem I have encountered is that it will not let me put my tv shows that I have downloaded from the itunes store, back into itunes, despite the fact that it let me put all my music back.
I want them in there, so that I can put them on my ipod, and I thought that when I updated my ipod it would just add the new stuff, and all my old stuff would still be there. But since it is synced with the old account, it says that it will delete my ipod and resync it, and I will be without my tv shows. I have also tried just dragging them into the ipod, but that doesn't work either.
So my question is, how can I get them back into itunes without repurchasing them?

Do the TV Shows actually appear in your iTunes library? If not, what happens when you try to add them?
If the shows are in your library, have you checked your syncing prefs to see if they've defaulted. (TV Shows tab when iPod is connected.)
Do you get any error messages related to this problem? Were the TV Shows and Music files purchased with same account? All they authorized on the same number of computers?
Not sure, but I have read about deauthorizing then re-authorizing your account. But you're only allowed to do this once a year ---or maybe once a year on ALL accounts (if you have more than one). You might want to inquire or search the forum on this point before proceeding.
Hope something here works for you...

  • Help adding my contacts back into iTunes

My hard drive crashed recently, so now that i have a new one I'm trying to add all of my old information back on my computer which includes what I had in my iTunes before. The music is easy, but when I plugged my iPhone in to update the software it wiped my iPhone clean. Now I have a file from my old hard drive of contacts my contacts that I would like to put back on the phone, but I can't seem to find a way to put them back into iTunes and I don't have Outlook or any other program to put the contacts in first. Does anyone know of a way to simply import the contacts from a file?

Unless you deleted the app, Windows Contacts is included by Microsoft with Windows. Do you have the Windows Mail application available, which is the name change for Outlook Express with Vista and Windows 7? If so, Windows Contacts is the separate address book application used by Windows Mail and with Outlook Express with previous Windows versions.
If you don't have Windows Contacts available which means you deleted the application - it wasn't removed by itself, you should be able to download the app from Microsoft's website and if not, you should be able to re-install the app from your Windows install disc.
iTunes did not access your contacts previously. iTunes does not store contacts. iTunes serves as the sync conduit for syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer only. Contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process, but the iPhone's backup is not stored in your iTunes library. That is it.

  • My images are still in the catalog, but the Folder name has disappeared. I need to get the folder back into my structure with the images in place

Help: I have a very well defined folder structure. Folder are located in a Master location and organized by State. Inside of these are my master RAW file folders organized by location. For example: West Virginia > BIRI_RAW_2012, BLFA_RAW_2013, NERI_RAW_2013, etc. After I set up the masterful following a shoot, I go to LR and import the images. At one time I inadvertently imported the NERI_RAW_2013 masterful set as a subset of something else and it was not appearing in my LR Module in the organization I prefer. So I went to my master folders on my drive and moved the NERI file into the West Virginia state folder. When I went back to LR, as expected the NERI folder was grey with a question mark. So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared. The RAW files are still in the catalog and show up in a missing photos search. I can't reimport because they are already there. I just need to restore my folder structure and get the images back to the right spot.

So I right clicked to find the files and relink, and it did not work. The folder name disappeared.
It didn't disappear, it moved (because you told Lightroom to move it). It moved from the incorrect folder location, to the new folder location. Please look in the new folder, in whatever location it is in, not in the old folder and the old location, and you will find the photos.
