HELP! Convert JPG to CMYK for print on Epson Stylus Pro 4880 problems

Hello all!
I need to print a JPG file to an Epson Stylus Pro 4880 printer and keep the original colors. The JPG file is of a company logo containging text/graphic. I use CS5 to convert the file to CMYK and save it as an Adobe PDF. When I print it everything looks good but there is a reddish outline around everything. Anyone have an idea how I can get rid of the outline? I am using the US Coated (SWOP) v2 for the CMYK scheme.
Help! I need to print out some logo tags for the customer.
Thanks in advance, Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

wish I could help but I am Mac and Essentials is not in my work flow!

  • Converting Images to CMYK for Print Publication

When in my workflow should I be converting images to CMYK for print publication?
Currently, I shoot RAW photographs with my DSLR in Adobe RGB, import the images into Photoshop for manipulation and then convert the final, sized image to CMYK before placing it in my Indesign document. Before going to print, I convert my files to PDF using the [PDF/X-1a:2001] preset. I use a calibrated system with a profile set for my monitor.
Since many of my pictures have shades of green, I'm often disappointed with the conversion to CMYK because I lose saturation and brightness. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there a better way of preserving the quality of colour in my images when going to a commercial printer?

To see in InDesign what color shifts will occur, use View=>Proof Colors.
I would also recommend View=>Overprint Preview.
Yes there are color shifts when converting RGB to CMYK, but those are due to the fact that the gamut of CMYK is significantly less than AdobeRGB or even sRGB. The same color shifts going to CMYK will occur whether you convert the image in Photoshop or in InDesign during PDF export or at the RIP.
Keeping the color in ICC color managed RGB has the advantage that last minute changes can be made as to what CMYK printing conditions are used, i.e. all CMYK is not the same. Furthermore, if you convert RGB to CMYK early in the workflow, you lose the ability to maintain the color gamut for display of the PDF as well as for printing to high fidelity color devices, i.e., offset or digital (especially inkjet) devices that have extra colorants such as light cyan, light magenta, orange, and/or green to dramatically expand the gamut. Once you lose the gamut in your imagery via conversion to CMYK, you can't go back.

  • Pdftopdf error printing to Epson Stylus pro 7900

    Hi,
I have an issue with printing to my Epson Stylus Pro 7900:
I receive the error message : /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/pdftopdf.app/Contents/MacOS/pdftop df failed.
Browsing through the www indicated me to update eighter Photoshop and the drivers, which I did.
    Still no luck.
Can s.o. help me out please?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Hilde

It sounds like an error generated when you are using an Linux Printing/Open Printing driver.
They may have support for that problem on their web site:

  • Problems printing from Epson Stylus Pro 700

I just upgraded to CS4. Now I can't print from Adobe Indesign on my Epson Stylus Pro 7800. It will print from photoshop. I upgraded the printer driver, but that didn't help. Other applications such as Word will print. When I click on the printer monitor, it says printer ready. The print job is "stopped." When I click on resume it says "Operation could not be completed." What can I do to fix this?
    Kate

Yes, I've contacted epson. At first the computer wouldn't recognize that the 7800 printer was attached. My 1400 printer was working. I replaced the firewire cable on the 7800, per instructions from Epson, with a USB. That fixed the first problem. Then when I was printing in Adobe, I couldn't choose a paper type. We tried downloading a driver upgrade, and running disk utility(Epson tech still). That fixed that problem. Now I can choose a paper type in the print dialogue box, but when I tell the printer to print, the dialogue box says printing stopped. If I select resume, It tells me client error, not possible. I also spent about an hour on the phone with Adobe trying to solve this problem. Epson says it's an Adobe problem, and Adobe says it's an Epson problem! Currently, I can print in photoshop and indesign, but not pdf files on either printer. On Friday, at some point, I was able to print pdfs, but not photoshop or InDesign. Unfortunately I didn't write down exactly when that was, as I didn't realize at that time, that I wouldn't be able to print pdfs later on. I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Epson stylus Pro 9600 problem printing?

We have 3 Epson stylus pro 9600 connect to LAN network and the latest driver 8.6.1. We have Mac Pro with Lion installed 10.7.4. We tried to print the progress comes up and then it says error.  This is what we did to solve the problem:  1. we unplug the LAN Cable and plug directly to the Mac Pro
                                                                                                                   2. we unplug the the cable from the printer settings still had green light
                                                                                                                   3. we used IP addresses too
                                                                                                                   4. we turn off the printer and restarted the Mac
                                                                                                                   5. it only works with USB. This defeats the purpose of using the LAN.
It seems the printer or Lion does not recognize each other. It won't print!
    Any solutions.
    Thank you in advance
    Luis

Adobe blamed Epson drivers for not anticipating CS3's changes. Like they're clairvoyant or something. Their reason was that it was too hard to take into account every printer on the market when writing the new (unasked for) CS3 printing module. A feeble excuse when it comes to Epson pro machinery, though - it is the industry standard, after all.
Solution? - use CS2 for printing, authored back when Adobe wrote its software to be compatible with existing equipment and drivers, not expecting the world to fall into line with whatever it decided it would do. CS2 works flawlessly with my 7800, CS3 remains a basket case for the same reasons you mention, though checking/unchecking the fine detail box makes no difference. CS3 is erratic - sometimes it works as directed, but then out of nowhere it will suddenly decide to attenuate a pano print.
We'll see if they get it right with CS4's "improved" printing, but don't hold your breath.

  • Converting RGB to CMYK for print causes darkening and loss of detail on page.

I work in CS5 to create illustrations in a very broad range of colors. I use filters and adjustment layers to achieve the desired effects, so my images feature gradients and high contrast design. I usually would work only for the web, so I never had a need to convert my images into a CMYK workspace. I have started making prints of some of my work, and I have noticed that I am losing not only detail, but vibrancy as well. A lot of the darker areas are smudging together, and some of the areas with light contrasted against dark look less intelligible than when I created it on screen.
My first attempt at printing was at a Staples, which could be part of the problem. I had TIFF and JPEG files saved as CMYK. The TIFF files looked awful, but the JPEG had slightly more clarity in the print. One of my TIFF files displayed on the Staples computer as being completely stretched out and grayscale, though it looked fine on my own device.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am attempting to learn all that I can about this subject. Thanks!

DOn't bither with CMYK for any form if " home printing". Their printers don't work any different from your own inkjet and exoect images to directly come from digital cameras etc. And are calibrated accordingly. Otherwise you have a lot of reading to do on color management, color calibration, gamut etc.

  • Converting RGB to CMYK for printing.

So I went in to the Apple Store yesterday and told the guy that I'd like to design my own DVD cover for a presentation reel.  I was about to spring for the teacher's edition of Photoshop, but he convinced me to buy the cheaper one with a Bamboo tablet...which was the same price as buying the program but included the tablet.
Hours later after designing my DVD cover, I find out that elements doesn't use CMYK mode.  Ridiculous! This is my first time doing something like this so I wasn't entirely sure how to proceed... I thought.. oh well maybe I just switch modes later and I'm good.  I guess this program was designed for less intense designers that print from a desktop at home, but I had other plans from the start.  Anyways, what would you do? Here are my questions:
Should I take back the program/tablet and exchange it for one with CMYK capabilities?  If I do this, will the document that I've used in elements be able to work in CMYK mode so I can send it to a printer?   ...or do I make a really good print to a desktop printer and then just duplicate those for my cover?
    Thanks for the help.

I came across a great web site where you can perform free RGB to CMYK conversions on your image files (up to 5mb). They offer a choice of numerous CMYK profiles. For U.S. commercial offset printing of your DVD cover, I'd recommend choosing GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.icc

  • Green Hue when Printing on Epson Stylus Pro 9600

    I have an iMac
I've just upgraded to Photoshop CS5
I've downloaded the newest drivers for my Epson Printer
I've attempted to print using Adobe 1998, SRGB, and a special ICC profile made just for my printer/type of paper
Each time I print my photos have a green cast over them. Everything looks perfect on the Mac, but when it prints, everything is green. Please help

Okay so it looks like that took the green tinge off the pages and now they are just printing darker than they should, so I cleaned the nozzles, and am messing around with the settings again and hopefully this means I'm on the right track to getting perfectly colored prints again. Thank you very much. I'll call Epson from here with the fine tuning. I can't believe I missed such an easy fix. Well I thought I had it, but didn't double check that it stuck!

  • Printing to my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 (Grr...)

    Hi All,
I'm a fairly recent convert from Windows and I LOVE my Mac for everything EXCEPT printing to my 3800.
I have always had a problem with my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer on my Mac. The two just don't seem to get along. I've wasted countless pages of expensive paper and what seems like gallons of ink trying to resolve this issue, but I'm getting nowhere. I've ruled out physical problems with the printer - it works flawlessly on the three PC's I've connected to it (via usb).
Until this evening I was using the Epson drivers for this printer. They were flakey at best. I would get random 'communication errors' that could happen at any time during a print - start, end, somewhere in between or, if I was lucky, not at all. Having had enough I went looking for a solution (again) online tonight and stumbled across Gutenprint 5.2.6.
I've been able to install the drivers successfully by following the documentation but I can't get the printer to print via USB or IPP. Using usb, I get a message in the print queue 'backend USB Failed' and the printer goes into a Paused state. Using IPP the print job apprers to spool and queue reads 'Connecting to printer... ' for a while then returns with 'Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds..'.
I believe the IPP is failing because the print queue options in the Gutenprint setup. The install says to leave Queue blank for the default queue. I tried that - it didn't print.
I browsed to the embedded 'EpsonNet Config' page in the printer and named what they call 'printer name' as printer. I presume that's the queue that the gutenprint driver wants, but I still get the same result.
When I look at EpsonNet Config, the IPP URL is http://192.168.9.166:631/printer.
When I look at the Printer Setup on the Mac, I see
    Queue Name: 192_168_0166
    Driver Version: 5.2.6
    URL: ipp://192.168.0.166/printer
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm frustrated beyond belief with this problem and really could use some help using either the Epson drivers or Gutenprint drivers - I just want some consistent output.
Thanks in advance for any clues you may be able to offer.

I have been using an Epson 3800 with my I Mac for four years and up untill I upgraded to OSX Lion the only problem I had was colour issues associated with some ICC profiles. After upgrading to Lion and downloading the latest OSX update (10th May) I could not print.
One of the problms was that the print settings continuously defaulted to:
    Page Setup: Sheet Feeder
Media Type: Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster
I would change the settings to what I wanted, I saved them selected Print. My printer promptly started changing from Matte ink (what I had set my print setting s for) to Photo Black.
After trying all i could to correct this. I finally gave up and rang the Epson Helpline. After 3 telephone calls over a day and a half during which I was talked through the procedure you described, the problems were still not resolved.
My contact on the Epson Helpline then tried to simulate the problem on his MAC. He discovered that he had the same problem the print settings would not save, albeit on a Epson 3880 driver. He then advised me that the problem was not with thw Epson Drivers it was a MAC/Apple problem.
I then rang the Apple Helpline (at £1.35 a minute) described the problem and was eventually put through to a supervisor. Who asked me to send her a set of screen shots describing the problem, This I have done, I have received an acknowledgement of receipt and have been advised that I should get a response within two working days.
    I am waiting hopefully.
I have tried to print both via CS5 and Aperture the problem is the same in both instances.

  • Photoshop CS6 on a Mac using an Epson Stylus PRO 3800 printer.

Installed Photoshop CS6 on a Mac Version 10.9.4. Installed an Epson Stylus PRO 3800 printer. When I try to print through Photoshop the dialogue box won't give the option to color manage. I followed the link suggested in the print dialogue box but that was for CS5 and said it will only work with TIFF files. I work with .psd files. I downloaded it but my Mac will not let me open it. Any help would be most appreciated. Mary Ellen

From Chris Cox: If you choose "Photoshop manages color", then Photoshop is managing the color and the printer driver is supposed to disable it's color controls (and let Photoshop manage the color).
If Photoshop is managing the color, then there is nothing else for the printer driver to do - so it grays out it's own color controls because they don't apply while Photoshop is managing the color.

  • Problem printing from cs6 photoshop to epson stylus pro 4800 printer

Has anyone had trouble printing from cs6 on a mac running lion to a epson stylus pro 4800 printer?   I keep getting an error message saying  "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.""   The computer sees the printer just fine and has the latest driver installed. I have removed it and reinstalled it many times . I need help with this.

Yes, the menu items are not unavailable. We were already aware of the "Reveal Arrow" issue under OSX v10.5.3. The most important print menu items such as "Print Settings" and "Color Management" are simply not present. As previously stated we've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest (v3.66) "Universal" print driver on both hosts and all of our client Macs. A resolution to this problem is very urgent as our semester begins this week and currently students can not print their next week assignments.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 4000 - Printing issues

I am having trouble printing from Photoshop to my Epson stylus pro 4000.  Specifically, I am not able to access choices other than plain paper, tracing paper and line paper for printing my images.  The following are some screen shots of what I see.  Does anyone out there know why this is happening and if there is some setting/compatibility issue.  I would really appreciate any insights and tips for a solution.  I noticed the problem when I started using CS5. I have also downloaded the most updated driver for the Epson and that didn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

I asume that you have updated the Epson printer driver via the Apple Updater? I had the same problem with my R1900. I suggest that you look at G Ballard's website. You will need to remove the Epson folder from your Library/Printer folder and from Print/Fax in System Preferences and re-install using the driver from the Epson Support webpage.
    http://www.gballard.net/photoshop/epson/cs5/
Having followed the above: my system is now working as it should.
