Help converting a Corel Draw (cdr) file

I apologize for cross-posting this, but it occurred to me
after I posted to
the projectseven forum that this is a more appropriate place
to ask the
question.
A new client has sent me his vector based graphics as .cdr
files. Is there
anyone out there who can convert these to Fireworks-friendly
format?
Kathie

otherwise ask your client to send you cdr files exported as
ai files or
something else you can use ;)

  • How do i open a Corel Draw crd. file in Adobe Illustrator CS5? ASAP

    Hi,
I use Adobe Suite CS5 and a client supplied me a Corel Draw cdr. file, so i need to bring that into Illustrator CS5 and i have no idea of which version of Corel Draw was used to save the file, and i have no more details about the file. Does anybody have a solution?

Like AI files, Draw files can be saved with our without compression. AI cannot open compressed .cdr files. This is a very common situation among AI users who think that AI cannot open their Draw files, because the collections of kazillions of clipart files which always ship with Draw are saved with compression.
So get your client to check whether he saved the file with compression turned on. If so, ask him to send it again, but without the compression option.

  • Can somebody help me out? I need a Corel Draw (.cdr) graphic converted to Illustrator

I'm trying to get a logo from brandsoftheworld.com but the one I want is in .CDR. I don't have Corel Draw (who does anymore) but I see that Illustrator 6 can open it. Unfortunately, I'm still on CS5.5. Can somebody help me out?

Send it to me. I'll save it as an EPS file for you.

  • Converting from Corel Draw - Colour Issues

    Hi,
I am having an issue with colours changing on me when I convert files Corel Draw files in to AI files. The colours seem to get darker. Any thoughts? This is very frustrating as I am converting files to AI but this is making it rather painful.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Eitehr color profile issues or simply a limitation of the conversion process. You have not provide any detailed info or screenshots, so all we can do is guess...

  • Problem Corel Draw .eps files

I'm building a 1-color book in InDesign CS5. The illustrator generating the art files for this book is supplying .eps files created in Corel Draw. She says that she's greyscaling the art but when I load it into InDesign my preflight says that the art is generating cmy plates. I can fix it by saving the .eps in Adobe Illustrator and greyscaling it myself, but I'm wondering what is the disconnect between Corel Draw and InDesign. Is there some way I can use her files or is there some settiing she is not using that will make these art files read as one color (black)?
    JB

Thanks for the quick response! I don't know the Corel product very well, nor
am I adept in Adobe Illustrator.
If I open the .eps file in Illustrator how can I view these extra channels
    if they exist?

  • Success in importing Corel Draw X4 files into CS6?

I've inherited CorelDRAW X4, and we're about to upgrade to CS6 (a really big jump). I'm trying to make sure that my files will cleanly import into Indesign/Illustrator CS6. I've downloaded the trial in advance of our upgrade, but both the support & sales folks tell me that I won't be able to in the trial but should be able to in the full version. I, however, remain skeptical because the sales person didn't even know what CorelDRAW was.
Has anyone had any success with this?

CorelDRAW is a Windows-based vector illustration program akin to Adobe Illustrator. There is no direct ability to open or place recent versions of CorelDRAW native documents (any version beyond 10) – .CDR files – in Adobe Illustrator. Adobe InDesign has no ability whatsoever to open or place and CorelDRAW native documents.
What you can do is to open your .CDR files in CorelDRAW and save them in Adobe Illustrator (.AI) CS format there. Then open those documents in Adobe Illustrator. Fidelity will be preserved for the most part. If you need to have the content editable in InDesign, you could copy and paste from there.

  • Need help converting quicktime movies into Flash files

I need to convert a QT, PhotoJPEG compressed, movie file into a .flv format. I have AE 6.5 Standard and it keeps quitting on exporting a SWV file which would could probably get me by with my client. But, again, it errors out saying something like a JPG is busy, or a file is busy.
I have FlipforMac,a purchased version. But I'm not sure if converting it into a .wmv and then a Flash file is the best route or is even possible.
Any suggestions or ideas of software that I could purchase??
    ~reicko

i don't think you have read up on the use of flash video
(FLV). there's nothing you need that you do
not already have (except maybe quicktime pro or some other
video editing program). the FLV exporter
comes FREE with flash 8. You should be able to open your
quicktime movie in QT PRO and export to FLV
format - then use any of the flash playback components for
FLV files - best bet is to read the help
docs on this subject and go to the devnet section of
adobe.com where there are several in-depth
articles about implementing flash video into your site.

  • OT: help converting image from Illustrator .eps file to

I have 2 files that were sent to me as (supposedly) full
    vector-based format
from Illustrator. When I view these in FW, I see only a
    bitmap. I know it
is possible to convert these to a FW png where each element
    of the graphic
is a separate object but I don't have the software to do so.
Is there anyone out there who would be willing and able to
    convert these for
    me?

  • Linked cdr files causing problems in InDesign

I have a Pagemaker file I am trying to open in InDesign. The PageMaker file has linked Corel Draw (cdr) files in the document. When I open the PageMaker file in InDesign, I am having problems with linked cdr files. The graphics come out blurry and I am unable to re-link them from InDesign. The linked cdr files are crisp and clean in PageMaker. If I try Windows\Links and then click on any cdr graphic, the options to relink, go to link, update link or edit orignal are all disabled. There are 2 machines with InDesign on them with the same specs and it happens on both of them.
Here are the machine specs on software: Windows XP SP2, Adobe PageMaker 7.0, InDesign CS3 Ver 5.0, Corel Draw 8 Ver 8.232

So my question is how to re-link these files? Can it be done with InDesign? Is there a compatability problem with InDesign and Corel Draw files? I would prefer not to have to start from scratch with the document.

  • InDesign PDF importing to Corel Draw - problem

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone has come across this problem, we have several designers in the office, all using either InDesign or Corel Draw X3 (all on PC).
Every time we import a PDF that has originated from InDesign into Corel Draw, the file corrupts. Most commonly, the text appears as Chinese writing and makes no sense.
When exporting the PDF from InDesign, all the text is set to curves, so I am not even sure why Corel is recognising the text elements as text, when they have been set to curves.
I have tried various export options from InDesign with no luck.
    Help!!

When exporting the PDF from InDesign, all the text is set to curves, so I am not even sure why Corel is recognising the text elements as text, when they have been set to curves.
That would be Outlines, actually. Sorry, but what you are describing here is impossible. If you open the PDF with Acrobat and check its Fonts tab, neither embedded nor missing fonts should be listed -- the list should be entirely empty. If there are a few font names, your convert-to-outline procedure is not correct.
As for the problem Corel has with perfectly acceptable PDFs, I have no idea. Converting to outlines is, actually, frowned upon, as usually the PDF file format is robust enough not to need this, but it was a nice try if the fonts caused problems in other programs.

  • .ai to .cdr ( illustrator file to corel draw file)

I work in illustrator but my  client needs file in coral draw how can i convert an .ai (adobe illustrator) file to .cdr (Coral Draw file)

all effects like gradients, … and the like will be rasterized -- they will no longer be editable.
I do not completely agree with that statement. Draw's .ai import filter has been pretty smart for a long time.
For example, Illustrator gradient fills are usually converted to editable gradient fills in Draw. Even Illustrator gradient mesh objects can be imported as Draw's equivalent mesh objects, still editable.

  • Can InDesign CS3 open Corel Draw files?

    Hi,
We have Corel Draw files that need to be converted to InDesign CS3. Can you advise if InDesign can open them?
    Thank you
    Barb

No. Indesign can Place EPS or PDF files saved from CorelDraw.
Illustrator can open CorelDraw files. You could then copy and paste from
Illustrator, although if it were me I think I would want to keep my
    drawings in Illustrator, not Indesign.

  • I am trying to install Corel Draw x5 on windows xp pro via Parallels 7 and having an issue . it states about 99% through the install that it is missing a file any suggestions?

I am trying to install Corel Draw x5 on my new iMAC. I am trying to install it on windows XP Pro via Parallels 7. I have already installed some other programs without any issues so this has me puzzled. whenever the install reaches about 99% complete it says it can not find 2 files(sorry I cant recall what it was).

The error message I get is that iTunes is trying to incorrectly open Visual C services.
Is there somebody at Apple who actually read these things or are we on our own without any iTunes?
