HELP CONVERTING FCP TO QUICKTIME FOR WEBSITE VIDEO

I'm trying to convert a FCP movie to a Quicktime MOV to place on a website. I'm looking to get something around 320x280 and around 5mb. Everytime I do the conversion, I'm ending up with files between 60-76mb. Can someone please tell me what settings I need to use. There are so many to choose from and I am BRAND NEW TO FCP!!! Please help!!!

really? Is this conclusion from personal experience.
Don't take it personally, but there's alot of
misinformation floating around. I haven't tried it
with h.264 encoding but with something like cinepak
(which I have tried) framerate makes a big
difference in file size.
Yup - I compressed a 3:36 DV file to H.264 using both "Broadband Medium" in QT Pro and "H.264 - 300 Kbps" in Compressor 2.1. The 15 fps movie came in at 6.1 MB and the 30fps at 6.4 MB. YMMV - the source material and audio codec will have an effect on file size also.
Framerate has very little impact on file size when using modern interframe variable bit-rate codecs like H.264, MPEG4 or Sorenson. Cinepak is pretty medieval I would avoid it.

Help converting value to datetime for order by.

I have a database that unfortunately has a varchar column with values like 'Thu, 20 Sep 2012 21:54:47 +0000' I need to be able to select from my table and order by this column as a date time stamp. Any help would be appreciated.

Given that you want to transform into timestamp, one could guess the +0000 are fractional seconds. Otherwise you could convert just into Date
For converting into timestamp see below. Could be timezone also as mentioned by others abvove.

Using Quicktime for all Video Types

I'm trying to use Quicktime for some WMV files, and I downloaded the "flip4mac" program, but it still isn't working. I can open the video and play it on Quicktime, but I can't skip around or anything. Is there something else I need?

If you happen to own a copy of Microsoft Office it contains Windows Media Player for Mac. It is only selected when doing the custom installation. It does not install during the standard install. Even when you select it, you will have to run the installer to get it to run. Once it is set up it works fine.
I have also used Flip 4 Mac with no issues and recently started using VLC, which is also needed if you use Handbrake to rip DVD's.

Rendering transparent background for website video

I have a comp for a website that I'm doing.
I have a transparent background and some fading in WHITE text with a light ray animated behind it.
I have followed instructions on how to render with the transparency intact (Quicktime, PNG, RGB+Alpha, Millions of Colors+). When I render it out and watch it in Quicktime, the light ray isn't correct and there's no transparency. Same thing with Final Cut Pro.
When I bring the footage back into AE, the transparency is there so I'm assuming that the transparency is there but QT & FC just don't play transparency files.
I need the transparency bc I want the text to reveal over a background picture I have in my webpage design.
Is there anyway to get this done right? I need the file to NOT be 300+ megabytes and when I drag the clip into COMPRESSOR to make it smaller, nothing is showing on the preview screen. I've been doing some research but haven't found anything to make it work correctly.
Can someone help me with this?
In the end, what I'm attempting to do is add the QT video into my iWeb page and have it play. I'm not a coder so I don't know how to make this happen any other way than making a QT movie and then adding it iWeb.

The only video format that supports transparency in a web browser is a flash player. That really doesn't fully support transparency either. The QuickTime player or any other video player will never ever support transparency in a web browser. Your project design is flawed from the outset. Another words you cannot do what you are trying to do using QuickTime. You will have to redesign for flash. If you redesign with flash, then you will not have a mobile compatible application.
I don't have much of an explanation of what you are trying to accomplish with your project so I can't give you more pointers than that. Point us to a website that has the features you are trying to implement on your webpage and maybe we can give you some ideas but After Effects is not where you should be looking.

I recently updated to Yosemite and notice a severe drop in my mac functioning. It was getting way to hot and would run very slowly to where it was unusable. So i cleared the HD and reinstalled all the way up to MLion thinking that this would be a good fix for my problems. Well it still is having a very hard time! Games and videos play even worse than before as well as the mac getting super hot. At this point im desperate for my mac and gaming to go back to how it used to be. Help converting stuff in Streamline for Flash

Hi, need tips and a "how to", would like to convert my simple
black and white line drawings into vectors using Adobe Streamline .
I would like to be able to color and use these in Flash. I use to
animate e-cards and this is how we'd do it but it's been several
years since I've done it and I've forgotten how. I have Streamline
4 and Flash 5, old skool but they work fine for personal stuff.
Can someone suggest Streamline settings for converting simple
character drawings in vectors? And if possible a layman's
step-by-step on where to find stuff in the menu and how to go about
doing things? Thanks for your time!
(P.S., I have Illustrator 9 but that's about it for my
programs and no access to others incase anyone has a different
suggestion, would like to work with what I have.)

Converting FCP .mov files for Final Cut Express

Working in FCP 6, I've transferred P2 footage (720p30) into an edit, via the Prores 422 (HQ) codec. No problems, edit done. But now my client would like the source clips to manipulate in her copy of Final Cut Express (version 4).
FCE doesn't recognize Prores, it seems, so I've tried converting a sample clip via "Apple Intermediate Codec," which does produce a recognizable file, but requires a render. From what I can see of FCE, the AIC codec is the way to go, but obviously I'm missing some setting, because whenI asked her to render, export as .mov, then re-import, and that new clip shows without having to render.
That tells me it's probably some specific codec consideration, but I'm not really familiar enough with FCE to troubleshoot it.
Any ideas about the proper export settings for getting 720p30 HD footage into FCE?

The problem is a little more complicated with DVCPRO HD media because it uses its own anamorphic frame size for 720p media. Open the file you need to convert into the QT player and give the exact specifications from the movie inspector.

Help using multiple audio channels for one video

Hi,
I have a video file with 3 audio files (stereo (.wav), 5.1 surround (.AC3), and commentary (.wav).
I have placed these on the time line of the video track, but now I need to have buttons to target each of them from a menu. However, when is choose a buttons target, is doesn't give me the option of which audio channel to play (A1/A2/A3 etc).
Is this possible with just one track, or do I need 3 (each with a different audio file as A1)?

BTW I would very strongly suggest to compress your WAV files to stereo AC3 files. It will reduce your overall bandwidth, and you will have a disc that will less problems in playing.

Quicktime ***** for internet videos!

When i'm lookin at videos online, Quicktime player goes to another page to play the video automatically and i don't want that to happen because it goes onto another page and is in a small screen that i can't make bigger. How can i just have windows media player to play the videos all together instead of quicktime player...?

You can adjust that in your web browser. If you're using Firefox, go into Tools > Options > Content > File Types and configure as you please. Converting FCP to Avid for export to BETA SP?

I'm currently doing some post-production work for a TV commercial that needs to be saved on SP BETA Tape for Comcast to broadcast it. Unfortunately, I don't have the Betamax equipment to do this.
A company that I work with does have this equipment, but they're using an Avid post-production environment. What file format can I give the Avid folks that will enable them to import it into their Avid system and save it to SP BETA Tape?

YOu haven't figured out what format you will be shooting yet? AH. Well, a lot of consideration will have to go into that. And depending on the format, you might need a capture card, and if you do, then you have the ability to output to beta yourself.
If the ANIMATION codec you're suggesting allows us to import that file format directly into Avid, wouldn't that be the best to use?
No....not really. ANIMATION is a good transfer codec, but the file sizes and data rate is too big to make it practical for editing.

Quicktime video clips for website

I would like to upload clips of a recent tv appearance on my website. The producer will give me the footage as a quicktime file, but he needs to know the following specs first: resolution, pixel h x w, and frame rate. (I'm not sure the producer himself knows what info he needs). Basically, each clip will be about three minutes long, and I'd like the best possible quality for the web, in a normal, youtube sized window. My webmaster doesn't know quicktime. Can anyone tell me what to tell the producer?

All you need to know is how big a file the're willing to allow to be downloaded.
There is sometimes a misconseption about streaming verses downloading a video. Streaming video requires a dedicated sever, (for the type of streaming you are going to be doing.)
If you are not going to stream, but rather download the video content, (known as progressive download) then the file can sit on the http server as a downloadable file, with a link to it, by embeding the files information in the web page, using the proper html code, from the vendor to the media content you are going to use.
We use Quicktime here and do true streaming, using a Xserver and stream via RTSP proticol. The web server then has a reference movie embed in the web page that directs the enduser to the streaming servers address, which is then sent to the web page with the embed information for QT and the end view can watch the movie, without every downloading any of the content to there local drive. This protects the content from being downloaded by the end user and alos gives random access to any part of the media, at will, (no waiting for all of the file to download, like progressive does.)
If you choose to do, (what most sites do, progressive download) then you only need the http web server and a large hardrive or RAID storage for the media content. These file are then downloaded when the end user clicks on the link provided in the web page, and you will see a progression bar below the movie as the file downloads. A dedicated streaming server is not used in this case, just the http server as a download server.
Most web movies are currently running a window at 320x240 or in my case, (using the QT codec, H.264) 480x360 for SD video. We stream at the following streaming sizes, 128k, 512k & 1024k, using the above window size for all.
Our software that we encode with is Episode Pro, (our primary encoder) or Cleaner 6.5, (this is a second choice, (due to lack of support by Auto Desk who owns Cleaner.) We also encode with Sorenson 4.5, but not offten.

I have the same problem in Mavericks, but I'd say, more important, with QuickLook.
Indeed Quicklook can't read avi movies anymore. Actually it always been the case, but with Perian we were able to fix it. The problem is that Perian is no longer available for Mac OS 10.9....
I'd assume that our only hope is Apple themselves... It would be nice from Apple to creat an add-on for quicklook to be able to preview the avi movies.
In regards with quicktime, you can download QuickTime 7 here:

Quicktime Logo on all website videos i.e. youtube, myspace

Please help. I have Quicktime Pro. Any website that has video on it wont let me play it. It always has the quicktime logo on the screen where the video should be!!!! I tried changing the MIME settings in quicktime preferences. I unchecked the box next to miscellaneous as i read on youtube to do this. Im new to apple mac so Im still getting used to it. This might sound like a stupid question but when you change settings and just close the box using the x button does this apply the changes or how do I apply the changes after changing settings?? Please if anyone has a solution for me please tell me as im going mental trying to work it out. Macbook is going to have itself a little fall from top floor window if I cant fix it LMAO. Thanks for the suggestion which I executed as soon as I read it a day or two ago. Unfortunately, it made no difference and I can only get Q?-free flash stuff on my old G4 with Tiger, to whose stability and reliability I have now sadly entrusted all mail and web related work.
Leopard is in my view simply a cosmetic upgrade and clearly has some BAD QT and web problems. Removing (on another correspondent's advice) the QT webplugin helped a little, so at long last I could run the otherwise unviewable Leopard demo on Apple's own website (ironic or what?); but opening, for example, Epson's website presented me still with loads of Q?s which are beginning to undermine my confidence in the new OS.

i'm paying for a website & her Name is Mandy Lynn but i know her in person right & i log into my members area & i want to play a video in her movies/video section & everytime i play them a quicktime icon & ? comes on? what does this mean? does this mean the video/movie does not want to play anymore? or it's cause i enables firewall, when i use to go into this website in the members area it used to play like a week or 2 ago now when i log in the nude video's don't want to play but when i search on google for nude video's they still all play except for the mandy lynn website 1 so is it my computer or is it that she mite have took the video's off her page?
p.s. i don't ever download sex video's i only watch them on the internet ok it all seems to play very well except for this 1 small problem, so i needed some help?
