Help converting raster product image to vector

I have an image of one of our products that I need to convert to a vector image for the use in a video.  I'm not too skilled in IA and everytime I try to use Live Trace (w/ various settings) the results are not ideal.  I've included a jpeg of the product.  I have a hi-res raw file to work with.  Can anyone provide me with advice on the best way to go about converting the image to vector?  Thank you in advance!
Mel

Sounds like a poorly defined project then. You need to nail down the client's requirements and expectations.
If the requirements are simply for a scaleable 2D drawing, then a number of rendering methods will work. But if the animation envisioned calls for the cylindrical object to rotate (about any axis other than the line of sight), then doing that kind of frame-by-frame artwork in Illustrator will be inefficiently tedious.
Illustrator's 3D Effect can extrude the semicircle or split circle section. And creating a Blend between two copies of a 3D Effect object with different orientations can achieve the series of frame-by-frame images. But it cannot do the notch as one extruded object. Nor can it extrude two separate paths in the same 3D coordinate system at different positions along the extrusion axis. Nor can it revolve two paths at different degrees in the same 3D space. Plus, its rendering of reflective metalic surfaces is not as versatile as would be required, so you'd have to resort to artwork maping, which would not likely be very convincing on a rotating object.
So if the tube-like object is to spin, Illustrator is a poor choice of a program to use for it.

  • HELP - CONVERTING A JPEG IMAGE INTO A LINE DRAWING

    PLEEEASE HELP ME!!!
    sorry to be thick - im only a beginner   ---   is there any way to covert a jpeg image into like a line drawing where there is a block colour background and solid lines that make up the picture like you sometimes get in brochures - somthing different to just the effects that are availible in the filter gallery...
    thanks

    As far as I recall there's no magic/easy "convert to vector drawing" functionality in Photoshop, though there are some things you can do to help smooth rough edges (e.g., Filter - Noise - Median).  There are also some things you can do, if you want to get fancy, based on converting selections to paths, but that can get kind of involved and likely requires manual path editing afterward.
    I have heard there are some pretty decent vector conversion functions in other Adobe apps...  Adobe Illustrator, perhaps?  Someone who uses Illustrator may want to chime in here; I don't have that package.

  • Help converting a raw image to JPG at 300dpi

    Please help I have always used PS to edit my raw images. I am now using elements. I noticed that when I converted all my DNG files to JPS it saved them at 240 dpi is there anyway to change them?

    You can use Process Multiple Files to change the resolution on a folder full of images.
    1. File > Process Multiple Files
    2. Select your Source folder (select a different location if you don't want to overwrite your originals, otherwise just click the Same as Source option).
    3. Check the "Resize Images" box under Image Size.
    4. Leave Width and Height blank and select 300 from the Resolution drop-down.
    5. Leave all other options blank and click OK.

  • Convert scanned handwriting (raster) into digital ink (vector)

    Do any of the Adobe products (or any other software) convert raster based images into vector... specifically I am wanting to convert pages of scanned handwriting into digital ink (NOT editable text).  I will then use a suitable tablet and stylus to add/remove handwritten words to the digital ink text. I have been using Onenote and a Surface Pro and stylus to generate handwritten text but have a number of existing manually handwritten pages that I would like to convert to digital ink and then modify in Onenote or some other suitable program.

    illustrator, indesign, flash, shape and probably several other adobe products can convert rasters to vectors.

  • Help converting to 2 spot colors

    Hello All,
    I am ashamed to say I am a teacher in a vocational high school that doesn't know much about
    computer programs.  I am an old camera/stripper person. I have been teaching 24 years and am well
    versed in PageMaker, In=Design and Photoshop.
    What I am trying to do is the following.
    I am trying to convert a vector image into 2 spot colors.
    For example:  I have a wreath and bow    I would like to print the wreath in a
    PMS 348 and the bow in 185 Red.
    I can of course do this with process colors, but often the job does not warrant
    using process so I would like to be able to print using solid PMS colors.
    I think that is it in a nutshell.  I have tried to work in Photoshop but have had no luck.
    My questions are:
    1. - I am using a Vector image from an artbook CD. - Is this good?
    2. - Can I convert a picture downloaded from the internet?
    3. - How can i learn to do this? - I have looked for online help and the school will not pay
    for me to take a course.
    Lastly, I understand layers well but have little to no knowledge of Channels
    I sure would like to be able to show the students how to do this.  Does anyone know how to do this
    or where I can view  tutorial on this matter.
    I sure would appreciate any help.   Thanks   Print Dad

    You don’t say what version of Illustrator, but regardless if you already have vector art I’d stay away from converting a rasterized image to vector.  There are relatively easy ways of doing what you want with a vector image with the merge swatch feature, but that depends on what sort of vector image you have.  Presumably the vector wreath you are working with is made up of a number of rgb or cmyk values.
    1         OK, so you are starting with a vector image, that’s a good start.  Are you positive it is vector?  In Illustrator can you see all the points when you select the object, and not just one big square?
    2         You could convert a picture from the internet, but that would not work nearly as well.
    3  See below:
    Delete all the swatches from you pallet.  Drag a 185 & 348 swatch from the pantone pallet to your swatch pallet.
    Set the Magic Wand to a useful value (double click on the wand to bring up the dialog box).  The lower the value the more work you’ll have to do, but you’ll wind up with more shades of red and green).
    Click on the most saturated area of red with the Magic Wand Tool.  Click on your 185 red swatch.  Hide the newly minted resulting 185 red (Ctrl-3).
    Click on the next most saturated area of red with the Magic Want Tool.  Click on your 185 red swatch.  On your color pallet, reduce the pantone 185 red to less than 100% to taste.  Hide the result with the Ctrl-3 command again.
    Keep going until there is no red remaining visible, and then do the same with the green.
    When you can see no more remaining parts of the wreath, you should be almost there.  Just to be sure, do Ctrl-A and make sure nothing gets selected (for instance white objects) when you do so.  If nothing gets selected, you should have only the items you have colored.  Use the command Ctrl-Alt-3 to reveal all the items you have hid.  (The hide and unhide are under the OBJECT menu, but the shortcuts are a bit quicker).  If you do have white objects, you can still use the pantone red/green and set the color percentage to 0%.
    Select the print command and print to a postscript device.  (A .pdf output will work if you are not hooked up to a postscript printer).  In the resulting print dialog box click on the “Output” command in the upper left corner.  Under the Mode select “Separations” Hopefully if all went well, under the Document Ink Colors only 185 Red and 348 Green will have a little printer icon next to them.
    No need to concern yourself with channels.

  • Help converting RGB Images to CMYK?

    I am working with a CMYK Freehand design, and it includes a

    I am getting a colour shift on the transparent areas.
    Should I be working with a CMYK cut out image? If so, how do
    I convert my RGB image to CMYK, keeping the transparent areas of
    the cut out?
    Help much appreciated (ASAP)

    How are you creating the transparent areas? Are you using an
    alpha
    channel in the bitmap? I stopped doing that when I noticed
    color
    shifting (even in grayscale reproduction) similar to what you
    get when
    using the raster effects. But I do miss using it because it
    is
    convenient and sets up nicely.

  • How to convert raster images like( PNG, JPG,GIF, BMP, TIFF etc) into SVG

    Hi Friends!
    With a hope that any Java Guru from SUN Forum can help me to solve my query, I'm posting my thread here.
    I have a project with feature to add image. My requirement is to convert any selected image file like (PNG,JPG,BMP,Tiff) into SVG Formate before adding it to Frame.
    I found one software from the link :
    http://delineate.sourceforge.net/
    Which covert raster to SVG.
    But I don't how can i use it runtime ?
    I want to convert during runtime process. like when user select option for to add Image then it call a procedure to add Image by converting any raster to svg & finally add to Frame.
    Your any help/suggestions wold be appreciated
    Regards
    Kirti

    There are basically two approaches:
    1. Embed the raster image in the SVG
    2. Vectorize the image
    1. Use Batik, or just write the XML yourself. Create some SVG files with embedded images, the syntax isn't to difficult. You could do it with a PrintWriter.
    2. Good luck to you. Writing a good vectorizer is
    - difficult
    - often pointless
    - though a great challenge if you're in to it
    The appllication you mention actually is only a front-end. it doesn't execute the vectorization itself. It uses Potrace and autotrace, which are native applications.

  • Can newer versions of Adobe Photo Shop convert a scanned in raster pdf to a vector pdf?

    Can newer versions of Adobe Photo Shop convert a scanned in raster pdf to a vector pdf?
    I scanned in a paper electrical schematic to Adobe Photo Shop and want to revise it in AutoCAD but to use an AutoCAD plug in, PDFIn, it must be a vector pdf as opposed to a raster pdf.
    Is that possible?

    Not in Photoshop, but you can try Live Trace in Illustrator.
    You may have to try several different settings and compare the results. Also the cleaner the scan the better.
    The results may vary from great to really bad.
    Sometimes it is better and faster to simply recreate it Illustrator. You can use the scanned image as a partially dimmed template layer and  redraw over it on new layers.
    If you really need this to work in AutoCAD, try creating a small section as a test to see if the plug-in for AutoCAD that you mentioned works ok.

    Bought the adobe product to convert a pdf image to an RTF file but cannot figure out how to get it to work

    HI wjleshe,
    I've checked your account using the email address that you use here in the forums, but I don't see any order history. Did you perhaps sign up with a different email address? Or did you sign up via the Reader mobile app for iOS or Android? If you got your subscription via an in-app purchase, Adobe wouldn't have record of your order. And, you would need to contact the app store if there is a problem with your subscription.

    The following code converts an cmyk jpeg image into an rgb jpeg image.
    The only problem if this code is that it loads the whole image in memory and thus you'll need a lot of RAM when converting large images. For example, it take around 300 MB to convert a 3000*3800px image (this is a 5MB jpeg image when compressed on disk).

  • How to trace planned order data after it has been converted into production

    Hi, There,
    The planned order has been converted into production order.
    However, I need to trace if this planned order is generated by MRP
    run or created manually. I can't get any planned order info from
    table PLAF. Any input?
    Regards,
    Nancy

    Hi,
    Once fully converted, the Planned Order data will not be available in the Table : PLAF.
    If it is available, then You can have the details with the Time Stamp and User data from PLAF.
    But, the refrence will be available in the Production Order.
    You want to make a Track of the Planned Order details and the Quanity, then you need to have/create Z tables so that the data will be availabe.
    This is how most of the Organizations keep a track of the Planned order data.
    Hope this helps..

  • In BC, how can I remove the large space above the product images?

    Hi, I'm having a problem with the product pages in Business Catalyst. There is a large space that appears between the breadcrumb trail and the first row of product images (small product page) and between the breadcrumb trail and the information on the large product page.
    I have run through the stylesheets (base.css, layout.css, and ModuleStyleSheets.css) and changed numbers for anything that looked like it might control that space. I adjusted the css in my files too. Absolutely nothing made any difference.
    And even worse, a scroll bar apears on the right side of the div. The div is set to auto height and grows to accept anything put in it. If I remove all the images, the scroll bar goes away, but if I only remove the breadcrumb, the scroll bar stays. Because of this, I suspect there is a margin setting on the div that holds the images that is forcing the page length beyond what the div sees. But can I find it? No.
    I find nothing in the Overall Layout Shop Module Template:
    <blockquote style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 20px; border: none; padding: 0px;">
    <div class="shop-main clear">
    <div class="body clear"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: verdana;"><strong>You are viewing the</strong></span> {tag_cataloguebreadcrumbs}</div>
    </div>
    </blockquote>
    <div class="shop-main clear">
    <div class="header clear">
    </div>
    <div class="body clear">{tag_cataloguelist,3,,,,true} {tag_productlist,3}<br />
    <div class="footer clear">{tag_previouspage,<img alt="" src="/CatalystImages/module_previous.png" />} {tag_nextpage,<img alt="" src="/CatalystImages/module_next.png" />}</div>
    </div>
    </div>
    (I could find no class for shop-main in any stylesheet. Changing any header class had no effect.)
    Nothing on the page template would account for this:
    <div id="right">
            <div id="store-banner-rings"><img src="../jpegs/store-background-rings.png" width="730" height="55" alt="&lt;empty&gt;" /></div>
            <!--end store banner-->
            <div id="store-background">
            {tag_pagecontent}
            </div><!--end store background-->
    </div><!--end right-->
    The page template with no page content looks like this:
    No big space! No scrollbar.
    It's that product table, gotta be. Can anyone tell me which css style to change to get rid of the large top margin and that hideous scroll bar? Or should I write a new one? To which section do I apply it?
    I appreciate any help and thank you very much for your time in advance.
    Sincerely, Ahurani

    Just Johnny,
    Thank you so much for answering. This big space is the last problem and I can't seem to find the code to fix it.
    The link is for whimsicalley02.businesscatalyst.com.
    Right now, the Harry Potter store is the best one to view. I haven't hooked up the others.
    If you can find the problem, I'd be very happy. I have commented a lot of the ModuleStyle css because I kept reinserting changes to the same code and that's how I stopped myself. I've taken out some of the comments, but the code is still festooned with them.
    Thank you for your help,
    Ahurani

    Why is it so difficult to convert a Raw image to a jpeg in Photoshop Elements ?! I have version 12. Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. Feeling very upset as there is no Technical Help to telephone at adobe and i don't know what to do.

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Change color of pixels in a raster (png) image

    Hi,
    I have just begun using Illustrator CS6.  I have a very simple image (.png file) that I would like to annotate with some arrows and some text.  This file is what I guess you would consider a raster image (no vector graphics) that has a very limited color range.  It has less than ten basic colors plus a gradient fill (shades of gray) in a few places.
    I want to use illustrator to annotate this image with some lines with arrows and some text, but first, there are a few stray lines that I would like to eliminate.  For example, there is a black line that I would like to "erase" by replacing all the black pixels in this line with white pixels.  I tried to do this by selecting the "Paint Brush" tool and then selecting white as both my fill and my stroke color.  After doing this, I position the cursor over the pixels I want to change but the cursor appears as a circle with a line through it, and it doesn't do anything.
    If anyone can tell me how I can do this, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Paul,
    If you have access to Photoshop or a another application that actually works with raster images (the circle with the line through it shows that Illy has no clue what to do with it), you can change the image quite easily.
    Edit: Hi John.

  • Problem with a product image/pdf production in Indesign CS5

    Hi,
    this problem probably has an obvious solution, but I can't figure it out due to my limited experience in using Indesign. I'm trying to export my poster lay-out as pdf, but one of the several product images does not show up in the exporte pdf correctly. Instead of a product image, I only get this white image that is similar to the shape of the product image, but the actual product image is not visible. The product image is a .psd -file and it shows correctly in InDesign document, but not in the exported .pdf file. Could somebody help me to tackle this problem?
    BR,
    Masa

    Hi,
    - It shows in the preview mode
    - I'm using only one layer in the layout with all the images on it
    - The image is not non-printing in the Attributes panel
    - Links have no errors and theya re up to date
    When I create the PDF via FILE > PRINT, then the problem does not occur, but I have another problem with white margins on both top and bottom of the .pdf-file. ¨
    I still would like to create the pdf via Export.
    Thank you for your quick  reply, what's next?

    Masa
