Help converting .wma to iTunes on a Mac.

I need help in converting thousands of .wma tracks to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. Can anyone help me with this problem. I have a desktop at home which is IBM and my laptop is now Mac.

iTunes for Windows can import WMA files, but the Mac version of iTunes does not have that feature. If you can get the files onto your PC, just add them to iTunes (using Add Folder to Library or drag them in), and iTunes will import them automatically and save the new files to your Music folder. Do you have an iPod or other external hard disk you can use? That makes this process much easier.

  • How to convert wma in iTunes for MAC to mp3

The iTunes support manual mysteriously indicates that iTunes for MAC can convert WMA files to other formats, but doesn't tell me how! How do I convert the WMA files to mp3? When I google, I keep getting links to other sites and I'm not sure how to pick a trusted site.
    iTunes 11 for Mac: WMA
Windows Media Audio; a digital audio file format created by Microsoft. iTunes can convert WMA files to other formats.

Peabody, for me, Adapter is the ticket, and a free one at that. Quick, easy to use, nice interface and very flexible in terms of formats, destinations, etc. Also converts video. Been using it for a month and love it.

  • Each time i try to import an album, or convert wma files itunes slows down and eventually stops importing. Does anyone know why this is?

I have been trying to import albums onto my itunes, it uploads the first few songs quickly then gradually gets slower and slower. I have also been trying to convert wma music files that already exist in my music folder and the same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have googled it and followed advice but nothing seems to work!

  • Can anyone help me install latest itunes version with Mac OS v 10.4

Help, I have just received my son's old MacBook and tried to install the new version of iTunes but now the download says it's not supported by my version of Tiger 10.4. He rebooted the MacBook before passing over to me so everything is old but I have since downloaded the upgrades and just wanted to do the same with iTunes.

Yep you are correct. Trust me I have spent the last 2 weeks going crazy over this. I had the same issue. I even went out and bought the newest version..snow leopard software but because my mac is older it didnt have enough RAM to support that new version. I needed the original leopard which they no longer sell. After spending an hour on the phone with a rep telling me I needed to buy a new mac I made an appointment at the genius bar at the apple store. The people in store are much more helpful. They no longer sell the regular leopard version but they were apple to install it for me there in about an hour. I am out the money spent on snow leopard but at this point am just happy that I finally was able to get itunes. Hope this helps.

  • Do I need a program to convert wma to itunes (aac?)-or can iTunes do it?

I have a lot of music that doesn't even show in the music folder of my iTunes library, and the program wont let me import them to convert within iTunes. do I need an independent program, or is there a trick to bring them into iTunes, and then convert? So far, under either 'import' or 'add to library', if its wma, iTunes just ignores the attempt to get the songs into the program.....
    Thanks,

    go to http://crunchgear.com/2007/06/20/musicgiants-wma-lossless-music-drm-free/
and read about WMA lossless format! (there is actually Super HD at 11,000 bitrate).
    it begins:
MusicGiants isn’t the most well-known online music download service out there, but they’ve been pumping out WMA Lossless files since 2005. Until a couple weeks ago, all of the super hi-res files were locked down with Windows Media DRM, but no more! Right now you can only get Paul McCartney’s Memory Almost Full DRM-free in truly bit-for-bit identical quality to a CD, but by this fall, MusicGiants will release lots more titles that you can pirate share at will. (The company hasn’t done an official press release yet, but MusicGiants CEO Scott Bahneman recently spilled the beans to Stereophile.)
It sure makes the iTunes Music Store’s 256Kbps AAC files look pretty wimpy, and it even trumps 7 Digital’s DRM-less 320Kbps MP3s. Will you hear the difference? If you have a super hi-fi audio rig at home then it’s a good bet you will. If you have an iPod, then no, because the iPod can’t hang with any WMA format.
That officially makes MusicGiants’ files the highest-resolution DRM-less downloads around. Which begs the question: When will Steve Jobs let us download Apple Lossless files on the iTMS? Another question: When will more portable players support WMA Lossless?

  • I need HELP converting my iPod from Windows to Mac

Anyone know how to do it??? Can I rip my music from my Windows iPod onto my Mac before reformatting my iPod to Mac?

To format an iPod to a different OS tpye, all you ned to do is restore the iPod in iTunes : Restoring your iPod to factroy settings
If your iPod is in Windows format, you can connect and sync it on a Mac computer, but you can't update the iPod's firmware unless it is formatted to a Mac, though.
Can I rip my music from my Windows iPod onto my Mac before reformatting my iPod to Mac?
    Yes, you can.
Senuti is a free third-party utility that transfers your iPod songs to your computer (it's Mac-compatible).

  • Can I pause convert WMA?

Im trying to convert a large amount of wma files into itunes. Over 21,000 files about 80 Gigs. Ive had Itunes cranking away on it for almost 48 hours now- it averaging about 158 files an hour. At this rate Id have to leave my computer going doing nothing else for a week!
Is there a way to pause or stop the convert wma without iTunes loosing its place? Im worried that if I stop it, when I go to restart it will just find all the WMA files and start all over again, making duplicates of what t has done so far. And with so many files it would take me forever to figure out which ones were already converted to remove them from the folder before starting up again. (see the problem). Does iTunes keep the "Convert to WMA.." playlist if I stop it, so I can restart where im at?? Id like to let it finish all the conversion eventually, then I know all the files are done and can just archive the folder of wma's.
Or- is there a good easy way to stop it and figure out which files are done so I can grab just the ones that still need conversion latter??
(just to complicate things- I also had a lot of mp3 and acc files- about another 80 gigs - so its not like i can just look at the library to know which came from wma's)
    Any help greatly aprreciated.

When iTunes converts a WMA, it creates a library entry for the converted file, but has no record of that WMA, and if it meets it again will start the conversion again.
All the conversion programs I have used do the conversions serially, i.e. one at a time, so it is not clear that another one would be faster.

  • How do I convert a .wma Audio file from a pc to .mp3 for itunes on a mac

I downloaded music from my PC laptop into an external drive. When I connected the external drive to the mac, the .wma Audio files from the PC will not transfer to iTunes on the Mac.
    Thanks for any help.

iTunes on the PC will convert wma. iTunes on a Mac won't.
On your PC, add the wma files to iTunes.
iTunes will convert to whatever you have set in iTunes prefs > General - Import settings.
Then copy the imported files to the external then File > Add to library on the Mac.

  • CONVERTING .WMA SOUND FILES TO MP3s ON A  MAC

    CONVERTING .WMA SOUND FILES TO
    MP3s ON A MAC - Written 9/28/07
Here's some help on how to convert .WMA sound
files to MP3 sound files on a Mac. Hope it helps.
    1. Open the .WMA sound file in Quicktime.
    2. In the Quicktime menu tool bar, go to FILE and
    select SAVE AS.
    3. Save the .WMA sound file as a self-contained
movie .MOV file. Then create a folder on your desktop
to store the .MOV files that you created.
    4. Open iTunes and create a new playlist by
going into FILE in the iTunes menu toolbar and
select NEW PLAYLIST. Then name your playlist.
    5. From the folder created on the desktop,
drag the .MOV files into the specific playlist you
    created in iTunes.
    6. In the specific playlist you created in iTunes,
highlight the .MOV files with your mouse. Then go
to the iTunes menu toolbar and select ADVANCED.
    7. In ADVANCED, select CONVERT SELECTION TO MP3**.
Then wait for the iTunes' "ding noise" to let you know the files
    have been all converted.
**To have CONVERT SELECTION TO MP3
    listed in ADVANCED:
    (a) To have CONVERT SELECTION TO MP3 listed in
ADVANCED, go into iTUNES in the iTunes menu
    toolbar and select PREFERENCES.
    (b) In PREFERENCES, select the ADVANCED icon. In
the ADVANCED icon menu, click on IMPORTING.
    (c) In the IMPORTING menu, go to the IMPORT USING line.
Now scroll down and select MP3 ENCODER. The click
    on the OK button.
    8. After the .MOV files have been converted to MP3 sound files,
erase the .MOV files listed in the specific playlist you created.
    9. Take your mouse and click on the MUSIC icon in the LIBRARY section.
Now in the LIBRARY section, search for the converted files.
Once the converted files are found, be sure to highlight one at
a time-- you'll be making sure which ones are mp3s and which are not.
    10. Once a converted file is highlighted, go into FILE in the iTunes
menu toolbar. Click on GET INFO and check which files are
.MOV or MP3 files. Delete each .MOV file found.
    11. Now you're left with the converted MP3 files in the LIBRARY.
Highlight and drag all the converted MP3 files from the LIBRARY to your
specific playlist you created. Now you're done! Enjoy your
    new MP3s!

There is no solution for playing and coverting DRM-protected WMA files on a Mac. I don't even know of a way to covert DRM-protected WMA files on a PC; you normally have to reimport them from the CDs, or when purchased from a download store burn them to an audio CD (where allowed).

  • How do I convert my existing iTunes account to a .mac account?

I am trying to convert my existing iTunes account which uses an Earthlink address. The following is the INSTRUCTIONS from the Apple web site on how to do this.
"I just signed up for .Mac. How do I convert my existing iTunes account to
    my new .Mac account?
We'll be happy to convert your account for you. Please provide your old account name, your new .Mac account name and your billing address in your email. We will also need your explicit permission to reset your password to complete the conversion."
This is the URL where I found those INSTRUCTIONS:

    I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE!
I am now on my fifth exchange of emails with iTunes support.
HAS ANYBODY SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTED THESE INSTRUCTIONS? I don't want to lose the ability to play my existing purchased music, but I want to close down Earthlink as my ISP.

  • I know how to convert WMA to AAC/MP3 for Itunes

I'm not sure if someone else has figured this out or not, but I figured out how to convert WMA files to AAC or MP3 for Itunes. First open the file using Quicktime. I think you need the Flip4Mac program. I'm not sure and you also need Quicktime pro. Choose Save. Select standalone movie. Choose location. It will convert song to movie, then import all your movies you selected. Organize Itunes by "Kind". Select all of your new movies files. Choose Advanced and convert to your appropriate file type.
I looked for a while and couldn't find a good way to change wma to aac. This takes a little bit, but it works. What do you think? It works for me.

Or, as has been pointed out in numerous posts, you can use EasyWMA.

  • How to convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to play in iTunes

How do I convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to now play in iTunes?

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

    Hi,

  • Finding all of my existing WMA's and converting them to itunes

When I launched itunes for the first time, it asked me if I wanted to find and convert existing audio files. I said yes, and the program located thousands of files and began converting wma's. I stopped it after a couple of hours, and everything that wasn't converted yet is now no longer showing up in queue in itunes. Is there a way to have itunes search my computer for these files and begin converting again, or do I now have to manually select every file I want to convert?

You could try resetting your preferences files, but that may start iTunes converting all the .WMA files from the start. But it may not. Not sure.
    Resetting the iTunes Preference Files:
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
You may need to enable 'Show Hidden Files/Folders' in Windows Explorer==>Tools menu==>Folder Options==>’View’ tab before you can see the Application Data & Local Settings folders.
This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you open it. You'll have to go back and re-set any preferences you want changed from the iTunes default. When you restart iTunes, it will perform its initial startup process. You can now let iTunes search for your music files.
