HELP!  Corrupt Library...Can It Be Restored?

I have my iPhoto library on an external hard drive.  The other day when I was importing photos from my iPhone, the drive dropped.  I was able to access the photos no problem right after the drop...no loud noises or whining.  I began backing up all my data to another drive, but the backup always errored on my iPhoto library.  Now, I am not able to access the library at all.  Is there any way to repair the library within iPhoto, Mac OS, or any software out there that can assist?
I am worried the physical drive is damaged at that particular point, but I am hopeful it can be repaired via software.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is why you have backups - bad things happen and they alone can save you - restore from your backup from just before this occured
As to repairing hard drives - that does not involve iPhoto in any way - I doubt it but a hardware forum or the support forum for your hard drive would be the place to find hard drive experts - but I'm afraid this is a bit like looking for a magic soution to restore your bent front bummper after you ream a tree in yoru car - phycical damage is not likely to be fixed by software or magic
Software such as file salvage can find deleted photos sometimes but not damaged ones

  • Help! how can i retrieve / restore my songs!!!

itunes deleted all my stored music on my ipod classic coz i forgot to tick manually manage music. can i still restore all the music i had before an all the folders as well??? please help!

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm afraid to say you are probably out of luck. If you've let iTunes wipe the device then the even though the data for the files may still exist on the drive it will be hard to access. It is just possible that a data recovery tool can scan the drive and recover files however I'm not aware of any freeware that can do this. Even if you can recover some files they will be in the ####.ext format that they are stored in on the device. To be usable these would all need to be copied to a hard drive and imported into an iTunes library. You will lose any volatile meta data not stored in tags such as play counts, ratings, playlists etc.

  • HT201412 None of the abot helps, and I can't even restore with iTunes, as my Ipad is not visible in iTunes at all.

    Hi.
I am having trouble with my iPad 1. It doesn't switch on, can't restart it, can't reset it, and can't even restore it with iTunes, as it's just no visible with iTunes at all. And yes, I have charged the battery for several hours just before doing all of this. All I see on the screen is the iTunes logo and an arrow with the picture of the cable, which suggests to connect to iTunes.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks,
    Dimitri

  • Help! How can I restore iTunes/iPhoto library from Time Capsule to new Mac?

Sorry to trouble you, because it looks like this should be an easy thing, but I can't find an answer anywhere...
I've got an 2008 MacBook Pro that suddenly began to suffer start up problems. Sometimes it boots to a black/grey screen and sometimes the screen/mouse freezes after only a few minutes of use.
I've borrowed my brother's Mac until I can find out how to get mine repaired, so I'd like to copy over my iTunes and iPhoto stuff from a Time Capsule (where I'm hoping it hasn't been damaged) to his Mac. I only want to copy the iTunes and iPhoto stuff, without filling up his computer with all my other junk.
Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks!

    Hi ...
I've found a solution to my problem.
Time Machine locates extenal HDD backups differently depending if they were done via a network or via a USB/FireWire/Thunderbolt connection.
My initial backup was done via a direct Thunderbolt connection. I ran into the above issue b/c the second time when I tried looking for the backup file the HDD was conencted to my iMac and I was accessing it via a network conenction.
I simply connected the drive directly to my MacBook pro and ... voila. I was able to see the backup, select the iPhoto library and begin the restore.
    Hope this helps.
BTW - I found this out by reading the 'blue box' selection on this page: http://pondini.org/TM/E2.html

  • My iPad music seems to be corrupt. Can I delete everything including the back up so I can re-load afresh from my iTunes library

My iPad music seems to be corrupt. Can I delete everything including the back up so I can re-load afresh from my iTunes library
In my iTunes library on my Macbook Air everything is OK but whenever I syncronise after an update a back up is made and then re-loaded.
Can I delete this back up somehow and load direct from my iTunes Library ?

Depending upon what problem that you are having with the Music app, have you tried closing the Music app via the iPad's taskbar and seeing if that helps ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Music app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Music app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't help then you can delete your music from your iPad and re-sync it back to it. A device's backup doesn't contain the contents of the Music and Videos apps, when you do a restore it gets those from your computer's iTunes library and not from within the actual backup, so deleting the backup shouldn't make any difference to that - if you want to delete the iPad's backup from your Mac then go into iTunes > Preferences (command-comma), and on the Devices tab select the iPad backup and click the 'Delete Backup' button.

  • On my MacBook with Lion Safari does start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library did not help. Where can I find and remove all components (LastSession ...)?

How can I reset Safari with all components? On my MacBook with Lion, Safari does not start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library does not help. Where can I find and remove all components as LastSession and TopSites?

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • I deleted duplicates in my library. Can they be restored?

So I deleted duplicates of the 100+ songs on my iTunes library.
Now I can play the existing ones in iTunes, however the ones imported in from a CD from my laptop, which were stored on my laptop are now not working.
When I deleted the duplicates, I chose to keep them in my media folder rather than send to recycle bin.
Where are the files on my laptop gone and how can they be restored? Help!!

If you chose to keep the files, they are still in the same location. iTunes will only move the files if the user tells iTunes to send them to the recycle bin.

  • IPhoto library gone. Can it be restored?

I was copying my iPhot library to another account on my MacBook Pro (I noe realize this isn't the way to do it). Anyway as the library was copying my computer locked up and I had to hard reboot. Since the reboot the library doesn't show up anywhere. The space on my hard drive hasn't changed so I know it still lives somewhere. Can someone help me figure out how to restore my library?

Thank you for your help. I figured out that it actually finished copying before crashing into the other folder but the permissions were locked. I changed the permissions and was able to copy the folder back into it proper place.

  • Creative Suite 6, InDesign saying Library is corrupt. How do I restore?

Creative Suite 6, InDesign saying Library is corrupt. How do I restore?

You will have to connect ot iTunes in order to reinstall iOS 6.1. Or you can try using the iPhone settings. Tab Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings which should force the phone into recovery mode and begin a download of iOS. You will need a solid WiFi connection, and I suggest you keep the phone connected to the AC charger.

If I try to sync --I  get the message that ipod can be synced w only one computer and if I sync with this library (which only shows new purchases from itunes)   it will replace everything that is currently on ipod

Why can't the songs be transferred to the device?  Is it because they are not authorized?  Were these 25 tracks purchased/downloaded with the same account you have used to authorize the PC/new iTunes library?

Can you help me on something? I restored my iPod and everything I had was gone. (What I Wanted) But then when I looked at my Usage It said I only have 22.5 GB Available and I Used 6.0 But I didn't. I also looked at my Backup storage and it still had all of my backup from before I restored. I deleted all my backup because it said I used all of my Backup Available. - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iOS device and have the device play a sound via iCloud.
    iCloud: Erase your device
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the device and report to police and carrier if iPhone or cellular iPad
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the erase (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 or later on the device. With iOS 7 or later, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • HT1386 iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do

iPhone won't sync with iTunes and It says iTunes can not add songs to iPhone because no songs in iTunes library can be copied to iPhone. Help!!!! What should I do. I tried everything!
I need to add my music to my iPhone from iTunes but its not working!

First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

  • Help with "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "iPhoto Library" can't be read or written. (Error code -36)" Any ideas on how to fix this?

While trying to copy my iPhoto Library (49.61 GB) to an external hard drive, I receive the error message "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “iPhoto Library” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)"
I need to move my library because I have no more disk space.  This was going to be step 1 followed by backing up to another EHD.
More details: iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29) OX X Yosemite Version 10.10.1 (Mid 2011 Mac Book Air).  EHD= WD Elements 1 TB (purchased at B&H Photo where the sales associate formatted it for a Mac).
Any step by step ideas for help are appreciated!  I've read through a few threads but need more step by step directions.

That error message is an I/O error which can mean a number of things, among them a bad file.  Here's a couple of fixes you can try:
1 - use the free version of  iPhoto Library Manager  to rebuild the library with the rebuild being created on the  EHD as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
When iPLM finishes it will display a log file entry showing which files it was unable to use in the rebuild.  Open the old library with iPhoto, locate and delete the photos that iPLM listed in its log.  Then try dragging the library to the EHD again.
If the above fails continue with:
2 - create a new, empty library on the EHD.  Use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manage to copy the events (1-2 at a time) to the new library on the EHD.  At one point iPLM may run into the bad file and be unable to copy the event.  You can check iPLM's log to see what file it is.  Then open that library, delete the file and either try to copy the entire library by dragging and dropping or contine with the copying of events from the old library to the new library.
