  • Help: Corrupted music after restoring backup

Hello. I have a 4th generation iPod touch. Today I made a backup before an attempt to sync my iPod to my computer, but I accidentally synced my computer to my iPod. I restored the backup and proceeded to go test my music to find that as soon as I opened my library it would skip around to random songs and the songs wouldn't play. I went into my iTunes and went to "On This iPod" and then to music to find that the iPod was apparently empty, yet the songs appear to be there in the library on the device. I've tested several apps and they appear to be functioning perfectly. I've read that the music files may be corrupted and that deleting them and re-downloading them from the store worked but when I go to the "Songs" list in-app I don't have enough time to slide and delete a song before it moves up or down the list to compensate for the song changing. This happens in my albums and playlists too. I've tried restoring my backup again with no change. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Rebooted the device to no effect.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Help - Corrupted catalogue?

Using a iMac with OSX10.5 LR 2.2 locked up & I had to reboot the system. On trying to open LR, I cannot open the existing catalogue db - the error message is:
The Lightroom catalog named LR_Db_280707 cannot be opened because another application already has it opened.
Any advice on how to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

    Delete LR Prefs file.
Then go into your LR folder inside of Pictures, try double clicking on the file that ends in .lrcat. Also check to see if there's a file ending in .lock with LR quit. Delete it if there.
Hope this does it- please let us know.

  • HELP search field acting screwy

When I type something into the Search field in the HELP window in the FInder and I hit RETURN key, the whole HELP window just goes by by. What's up with this? More HELP corruption... again???? There is apparently a lot of corruption that goes on with Apple's HELP viewer. When oh when will HELP be fixed!

You may not realize it but the folks at the Genius Bar have to go through a few weeks of rigorous training ...
That is far from what it takes to qualify them to say if what they encounter helping users is due to a bug in the OS or from other causes. They are not trained to be engineers, they are trained to be customer support technicians. On the job, they are expected to solve customer problems expeditiously, not to spend hours studying code & log outputs on a case by case basis, looking for underlying common causes.
They are susceptible to the same form of myopia as others in similar positions or readers of these forums: because a disproportionally large number of the units they see have problems, they may begin to refer to the product as "buggy" in an ill-defined way, making little or no distinction between causes & effects, especially in programming errors vs. other causes. Some even go as far as using the term to refer to things that work as designed that they think should work differently.
This is not very helpful: it too often leads to users not looking for causes that they could eliminate themselves because they expect Apple to supply a "bug fix" for something that isn't an error in the programming it supplies.
You say you have fixed your problem. It seems to me that you have most likely treated a symptom without discovering or eliminating its cause. I do not believe it is typical for help viewer files to become corrupted -- mine & those of my friends & associates certainly have not -- so it seems unlikely that the cause is a genuine bug in the OS itself, which I would expect to affect hundreds of thousands if not millions of users. Sure, some won't use help or report any problems they have with it, but even considering that the numbers just don't add up.
It is true that this is based on assumptions I have made but I will stand by it, in large part because I'm aware that file corruption has many causes, some user or environmentally induced, some not. I don't completely rule out an obscure bug in the OS affecting select users, but it is not high on my list of probable suspects.
In any event, I hope your problem is solved & will not recur, whatever its cause.

  • How do you add a shortcut to the desktop with ios5?

Thanks to Itunes helpfully corrupting my Ipad backup and crashing the upgrade to ios5.1 (or whatever) this morning, I've had to completely rebuild my ipad from scratch.  Thanks, I didn't have anything better to do today than try to get all my apps and things set up the way I like again!  And, I didn't have any important data or anything... what the ****, if an update can wipe the ipad AND corrupt the backup, there is a serious problem with this whole thing!
Anyway, does anyone know how to get a bookmark to a webpage on the desktop?  It used to be that you could click the little "plus" button and just select to put the shortcut on the desktop, but you can't do that anymore, and none of my searches have come up with anything that isn't referring to pre-ios5 versions of safari on the ipad...
    Thanks!

It is totally weird that you no longer have that feature in the Safari app. Have you tried the basics, restart, reset, quit the app, clear Safari.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit Safarai and restart - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
I have seen some of the most bizarre, off the wall, mysterious issues on my iPad since I updated that it has me totally mystified in many ways. Very, very disappointing to say the least.

  • Multiple problems with 80GB classic, don't know where to start.

    Hey guys,
I got an Apple classic 80GB for my bday early August and lately i've been having so many problems i dont know where to start, i'll try to explain them as best as i can.
*problem 1:* Whenever i plug my iPod into my PC, it locks up the system for about 5 minutes, then comes up with an error box saying that 'There is a problem with your iPod yadda yadda restore etc'.
I proceed to restore the iPod, then once its restored and reconnects itself, it repeats the cycle by freezing then telling me to restore. The only way i can do a restore and have it not give me an error is if i reboot when it is disconnected.
*Problem 2:* When i finally get it up and ready to sync, i go to sync all my files (About 2000 songs). It gets to around the 1500 song mark then says there is an error and the iPod disconnects itself.
It then instantaneously reconnects itself and starts syncing from where it left off.
Once it has then sync'd all of the music ad tells me its ready to be ejected. I eject the iPod and disconnected it.
I then go into the iPod and it has no songs/videos/photos, yet it has still used up about 15gb. If i reconnect it, it will just sit there for 5 minutes not syncing, it will then randomly say the sync is done and it will eject itself.
FINALLY after all that i have my music on there
*Problem 3* Once the songs are on the iPod, it becomes insanely laggy. If i navigate to a song and press play, it will take about 10 seconds for the actual song to play. The delay is just as bad for next song, pause etc. Even using it in my cars head unit causes it to lag.
*Problem 4* If i do get a song playing after all that, about 1/5 songs will just randomly skip to the next song without letting it play through.
I have all the latest iTunes/Firmware/Drivers for everything on my PC and iPod.
I have sent it back to Apple for repair yet they could not find anything wrong (Yeah right :|)
If anyone out there could help me please, im at my wits end with this infernal machine.
    Thankyou

*Outdated operating system:* Cant be, im running XP SP3 with the latest updates
*Computer needs updates:* I've got the latest drivers for all of my hardware, including BIOS
*Software interference:* THe only other program i have running in the background is Kaspersky Antivirus, but that is disabled when i try to sync
*Damaged Files* Possibly, i played through the album where it froze at and even reo-imported it, it seemed to play and import fine
*Unregistered .dll files (Windows):* Tried this fix, but it did the same problems as the original post. Such as freezing on a certain song, then reconnecting itself only to put the music on there, yet it is really laggy
*Damaged disk structure:* Tried this fix, didn't help
*Corrupt iPod photo Cache* I have never tried to put photos on it, so i dont see how this could be it.
*Lost connection:* Checked it, it's very firm and unlikely to come loose.
*Conflict with third-party hardware:* I dont have any connected, nor have i ever
*Bad hardware:* I tried it on all of my 8 USB drives. I dont use any hubs or firewire cards so this couldn't be it.
Also i forgot to add that 1/5 times i go to restore, it locks the computer up and windows gives me a 'delayed write failed' bubble

  • How do I do a clean install on my mac pro with snow leopard?

I got a Ssd drive, I did a carbon copy from my old drive, it was running Great, but now it's freezing how do I reinstall snow leopard , ive tryed booting from disc but won't work don't know what too do plZ help.

Corrupt directory and damage are best handled by booting from another hard drive with latest OS, latest Disk Utility, and ultimately, with SuperDuper.
In some cases it is best to clone and repair, then restore back to original, in this case your SSD.
Just as important, to find out why.
Is it the make/model and firmware of the SSD?
Is it known issue with that model?
Are you using Crucial, OWC, what brand?

  • Can't Login to bank

i have actually been having lots of problems recently first it started with not being able to download anything and just about an hour ago after resetting firefox to default now i cant logon to my bank first it says This Connection is Untrusted and i click i understand the risk and add Exception and it brings up the page but when i type in my user and password and click it does noting and i checked with IE and it works fine but i dont like using IE please help

A corrupt FF profile can also cause this problem, which is what happened to me. I suddenly couldn't log in to several financial sites and couldn't see the thumbnails of items on craigslist. I tried clearing the cache, cookies, etc., uninstalling/ reinstalling FF -- didn't help. I thought it might be java, my antivirus, etc. -- it wasn't.
Finally, having had an occasional problem over the years with a corrupted profile, I thought it might be that. I didn't know which file would be responsible, so I replaced the likeliest ones, which fixed the problem. The procedure, below, requires uncorrupted copies of your profile files, such as from a remote (or local) backup. (What? You don't have a backup? Or you do, but you didn't think to include your FF profile in it? How shortsighted of you... In that case, you're stuck.)
    1. Close FF.
    2. Locate your FF profile (in XP, it's in Documents and Settings > User > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles). The folder is named with a random combination of letters and numbers.
    3. Create a new folder in Profiles as a temporary backup, in case you want to revert to what you have now, and copy the files from your profile folder to it. You don't need the subfolders with extensions, add-ons, etc. -- just the individual files in the profile folder.
    4. From your remote or local backup, download the files from your profile that have been modified within the last day or two (just before your login problem occurred). There will be roughly a dozen. Obviously, if your login problem started today, you don't need a file for which the latest modification was last month or even last week.
    5. Drag the downloaded files into your profile folder, overwriting the existing ones.
    6. Restart FF.
    7. If you're able to login to your financial sites, etc., delete the temporary new folder you created in Profiles. However, if you want to revert to what you had, drag the files from the new folder back into your profile folder, overwriting the existing ones.

  • Unwanted Automatic Clipping Mask in Adjustment Layers, CS5 & 10.7.2

Having just upgraded to 10.7.2 and running CS5, I now find for the first time that in the (for instance, Curves) new adjustment layer dialogue box, the box for creating a clipping mask based on the previous layer is by default selected. Is there any way to disable this unwanted "feature" that seems to have arisen with 10.7.2 (that is can I permanantly have the above box unchecked)? Thanks for your help.

  • Ipod suddenly erased and unreadable

after getting the folder(!) icon i installed the new verson of iTunes. it seemed to be working fine for a couple minutes (i could start it up but never actually listened to it) then, magically, my 40gig, click-wheel ipod seems to have been totally restored (i was prompted to select language and it's totally empty). in addition, i get this error message when i plug it in to mt iBook in order to "repopulate" the music:
"you have inserted a disk containing no volumes that mac OSX can read. to continue with the disk inserted, click ignore" there are three buttons: (initialize) (ignore) (eject)
i've had the darn thing relpaced due to HD crashes four times already--am i in store for a fifth? thanks for any help.

corrupt simply means that something is blocking the stream, but you have to find the file that is corrupting it. but you probably don't have a virus

  • Help! System Rescue files corrupt!

I hope someone can help with this - my X61 w/ 32-bit Vista Business has never worked well, with persistent blue screen crashes, system lock-ups, and error messages. After dutifully downloading Windows updates (Vista SP 2 just made things worse) and new drivers I decided to start from scratch and restore the computer to the factory settings - i.e. wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows from the rescue partition. I backed up all my files and went through the steps on the Rescue & Recovery console, only to have the installation fail - it says the Windows files are corrupt and it hangs on the installation every time -sometimes with another blue screen.
So basically this computer is now dead in the water, and unfortunately out of warranty. Please - does anyone know of any way to restore the rescue partition so I can at least re-install the OS that this machine came with? Any suggestions appreciated!

    Addendum:
These two posts to the forum describe my problem pretty accurately:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/3000-N100-Resuce-and-Recovery-Issue/m-p/58326...
    http://lnv.lithium.com/t5/R-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/R61-Recovery-error/m-p/140884
I'll add that I've tested by RAM and hard drive with built-in and 3rd party utilities and they all seem to be OK. Also tried Spinrite data recovery on the rescue partition and it hasn't helped.

  • Memory Corruption on K8N Neo Platinum - HELP!

I am having some problems with my cousin’s computer that I built for her last September.  She brought me the computer because she got an error that the system32/config/system file was corrupted and couldn’t boot the computer.  I got the file replaced and got the computer re-updated to where it worked.  Then the same thing happened again.  This time I did a Windows reinstall and the computer acted a little sluggish and iffy so I did a memory test.  I found the memory was all corrupted.
First here are the pc specs:
MSI K8N Neo Platinum with 1.7 bios
    Athlon 64 3000+
    120GB Seagate SATA hard drive
NEC DVD Burner and Samsung DVD ROM
    Radeon 9550
    512MB Corsair Value Select 2.5CL DDR400
Antec 350W psu and Antec Case
I ran Memtest86+ v1.6 and the Corsair stick had errors in Test 3, 4, 5, and 7.  In tests 3 and 4 there are 50 errors but at the 98% of Test 5, the errors jumped to 146,432 and they were 500.8MB part of the stick.  I got the same results when I moved it to DIMM2 slot.  I also get the same results when the HT is at 1x or 4x.
I tried a known working 512MB stick from my sisters Athlon XP 2500+ pc in the A64 pc.  It is a Mushkin PC3200 Basic stick.  I get errors only at 98% of Test 5 which amounts to 109,568 errors.  Same results in DIMM2 slot.
But when I test the Mushkin in my sisters pc, it has no errors.  But the Corsair stick in the AXP pc gets errors on Tests 1, 3, 4, 5 (only at the 98% mark), 6, 7, 8 but only a total of 317 (a lot less than 146,000 in the A64 pc.)
So, I know the Corsair memory is bad, but now something is also wrong with the motherboard and /or cpu right?
If you need any more info let me know.  I’m new to the forums and they look very helpful.
    Thanks.

Look in the bios and loosen up the RAM settings. Make sure the RAM isn't being stressed into settings that are too hard for it to handle.
See I told you to loosen it up...
I speak from experience as the same happened to me and loosening settings stopped errors.
Glad you managed it, well done...
