Help! Cr2 Files have inexplicably reset themselves to their import state!

I am having a disastrous day at the office! I have discovered that 3 of my weddings shot this year, edited in Lightroom3 and since transferred to LR4, have lost all their develop history. All the xmp files are now dated with the date of the shoot and I am back to square one.
It is quite a bizarre situation. Here are a few points that don't add up.
1. At some point before exporting i renumbered each project. Now, a couple of images that were obviously stacked with Tiff edits in the data base were not renamed. THESE FILES HAVE NOT LOST THEIR DEVELOPEMENT HISTORY!! I have the data for these files and the XMP files show the true date of the last edit. It's quite bizarre and unbelievably frustrating.
2. One particular wedding was shot with a second shooter who happened to shoot NEF files on his Nikon. Again, these files are intact and safely have their edit information.
3. With two of the weddings even the database entries were in correct, with the libraries showing the original file names and not the new renamed files
I wonder if any one else has come across this problem on their travels? As I say, I have recently upgraded to lightroom 4.3 and was about to further upgrade to 5 when I discovered this issue. For now that plan is on hold!
If anyone can advise on how to deal with this problem, perhaps whether the original develop data may be retrieved I would be mot grateful indeed , itherwise  there's a lot of rework to be done!!
Many thanks.
Phill
P.S for your information I'm running on PC, Windows 7 64bit, Intel I7, 10gb Ram. LR4.3 and 3.6 and CS6

Have you finished editing your wedding photos from these three events and are now going back months later and noticing a problem, or are you still in the process of doing the final edits on them?
Are you saying that none of your catalog backups with the renumbered files have the edit history in them?  When is the earliest backup that comes after when you renamed the files, and do you have any backups between the time you imported and when you renamed the files?
So your situation is that all the files have been renamed but none (that have the problem) have any edits associated with them, even the edits from before you renamed them?  In other words do the files appear to be frozen in time from just after you renamed them or even the initial edits are gone, as if they had been reimported into LR, anew?  Do you somehow have two copies of each file, one the old name and one the new name?
I don’t think a catalog backup aborting would cause your current catalog to be corrupted, only the backup copy would be incomplete and perhaps LR deletes it if the backups stop early.
How imprecise and foggy are your memories about what you did with the files from these weddings?  It would seem to take more than one glitch at a moment in time to have the situation you have, now, but if you’re not all that sure what has happened in the past, then maybe you did a bunch of things in a row that effectively caused the issue or masked your seeing the issue for such a long time.

  • Help, spatial, reverb, chorus features reset themselves at star

I have an Ensoiq audio PCI (model CT480) soundcard, everytime the computer boots, the spatial, reverb, and chorus checkboxes are checked even though i unchecked them, this only happens when the computer starts, I have reformatted and installed windows 98 SE 2 times, i have removed and installed the VxD drivers (file version 4.2.0.206 as it says in the "driver file" details on System Properties), and i've tried removing Legacy and Joystick support (i have Allow LPT Interrupt Sharing checkbox checked) but it still resets itself, my soundcard is in IRQ 0 only the soundcard (Legacy or Joystick are not enabled) is enabled, i have the BIOS setting of PNP OS to YES and I really don't know what else to do, any help would be extremely appreciated, thanks in advance

    Thanks for the additional information.
I guess your scale probably relates to your photo on a paper.
The way that you try to calculate the resolution for item (5), seems more to identify the map resolution on screen (96 dpi seems related to screen), and not to identify the resolution of your digital image. And also, I think it doesn't seem correct, as some other conversions between cm and inches and also degrees (unit of your data) may be needed. This may be a little bit more tricky, and I think you don't need this. Actually what you want is to compute the resolution of the original digital image.
As you have the MBR of you planar image and the size of the image, I would calculate the resolution using those values.
    a) Your MBR is: -27,-40,27,40
    b) Your image size is 504x596
    c) the resolutions would be:
    resx = 54/504 = 0.10714
    resy = 80/596 = 0.13428
    d) using the import image option in MapBuilder you can enter:
    Top left x = -27
    Top left Y = 40
    resx = 0.10714
    resy = 0.13428
About the SRID, the information is on mdsys.cs_srs (next version of MapBuilder will show the list values). As you may not know the correct SRID, use the default 8307.
The center point in MapViewer's map request will be the center of your map on screen. The size defines the map height.

  • Why have my tiff files on my external hard drive been converted to CR2 files?

I've been using Lightroom 3 with an external hard drive for a few years now with no problems.
I shoot raw with my Canon t1i and jpg with my Canon SX-10.
Just last week I hooked up my external hard drive and Lightroom wouldn't connect to it. Usually when I hook it up, Lightroom opens up automatically. At least it use to.
I looked at the drive and it seems the tiff files are now called CR2 (Canon Raw I think). Any idea why this happened and is there a way to get them back to where Lightroom will recognize them?
I can open them in Photoshop, but not Lightroom. I usually go first to Lightroom, then to Photoshop and back. Can't do it know though.
    Thanks for any help.

The TIF files may come from when you do a round-trip to PS and you either create a temporary TIF file on the way into LR, the default is to have –Edit.tif as the last part, or when you’re in PS and save any additional edits back to a TIF file.   This LR-PS-LR processing may have created many TIF files that have the same base name as the underlying CR2.  Both the CR2 and TIF files would have been visible in LR so maybe you’re remembering one extension more than the other.
The files you originally imported into LR would have been the CR2 files.   What has happened to their location in the time between  you originally imported them and now when you’re trying to hook things back up?   If they’ve always been on the external drive then maybe the only thing wrong is that the drive letter has changed, but if you moved the files from their original location on the local drive to their archive location on the external drive, then did the folder-path to the photos stay the same, at least most of the path?
The way you normally fix things if the drive letter has changed or if the path has changed only a little, is you locate the file in LR’s folder structure, then right-click on the folder at the lift and choose Update Folder Location, then click over to the place on the external drive where that folder is, now, and click Ok.  LR will hook up all the moved photos in that folder.  The higher up in the hierarchy you locate the missing folder, the more folders underneath will automatically get updated.  If you give us some information about the specific locations of the folders in LR when on the local drive and on the external drive, then we can give more specific advice what to do.

  • HELP! SOME .cr2 Files not able to be opened by LR or Adobe

I have about 200 .cr2 files which aren't able to be imported or opened in either LR4, Photoshop CS4 or DNG Converter. I have succesfully imported 3000 files from the same shoot shot across different cards including this particular card.
I don't understand why this is happening. I need to know if there is a way of recovering the file information and retiveing these images as they are for clients. This has happened in the past before but now this particular client wants the images that have failed to import. ( of course!)
    Lightroom what have you done!!!????
Files will not preview in OSX "Preview"
    file name looks like this:
    _MG_1179.CR2

The raw files are either corrupted or from a camera model newer than the raw-converter supports.
The statement about some files on the same card working ok suggests it is more a corruption problem since it would be normal that all photos on the same card would be from the same camera, although perhaps if some files are shot in small-raw mode or stills-during-video mode and perhaps the raw converter doesn’t know how to process those.   Are you using the latest DNG converter (7.3) to process the files or an old one from the CS4 era?
Do these non-importing files work in Canon-supposed software, such as Digital Photo Professional from the newest camera model used in the shoot?  By “work” I mean can you save a JPG from the CR2 files in DPP, not merely view the thumbnails or previews which are looking at the camera-embedded JPG preview, not decoding the raw data?
If the raw files are corrupted then if they are corrupted on the card then the data is lost, but if they were corrupted in the transfer process then you may be able to retransfer them and have them work.  If you have already reused the card and written over the images with more images then you also cannot retransfer them, but if you have only formatted the card there are programs that can recover deleted images from such a card.
If the raw data is corrupted but the preview jpg is intact there may be a way to extract those and work with them, which is not as good as working with raw data, but better than nothing.
The underscore prefix of the raw filename means that the camera, itself, was in AdobeRGB mode as opposed so sRGB mode, which doesn’t really affect the raw data, just the camera-produced JPGs.
If the situation is that you are looking at raw files from a prior photoshoot that used to work and now don’t, then your hard-drive may be going bad and that is more serious.
It is unlikely that Lightroom has corrupted anything unless you are using 1.4.0 which had the 1.4.1 update issued for it due to corruption when re-writing the capture-timestamp in the raw file, something that newer versions of LR can be told not to do.
Just to be sure it is not camera incompatibilities you might clarify what camera models and what versions of the camera-raw plug-in (help / about plug-ins / camera raw), and DNG Converter and Lightroom you are using and if this is from a current photoshoot that still has raws on the cards or from an old one.

  • Canon G9 CR2 File Problems

I'm running into some troubles with this combination of CR2 files from the Canon G9 and using Lightroom 1.3 or Photoshop CS3.
When I import the files from the camera using Lightroom's import function (and yes, I have the 4.3 camera raw update installed), Lightroom brings over both the .jpg and the .cr2 files (so far, so good) but then I run into problems.
First problem: The .CR2 files have improper white balance set on them. catastrophically so, as I'm using the camera for infrared shots and without the original white balanace settinsg taken at the time of shooting the shot is useless. The .jpg's are fine, but obviously lack the full details of a raw file, which I would prefer to work with.
Second problme: When I right click on the .cr2 image in Lightroom and choose to edit it in Photoshop, the result is that Photoshop opens the file as a Tiff image and I never get the opportunity to use the Camera Raw loader settings for the raw image in photoshop, which are fairly important to me.
Third Problem: If I open the image directly in photoshop, it will initiate the Camera Raw 4.3.1 loader (a good thing) but still has the color balance issues. And for an instant when the file loads in camera raw 4.3.1, a triangle warning sign shows in the upper right corner of the picture then dissappears. I have tried using the Adobe RGB, Colormatch, ProPhoto and sRGB settinsg, 8 and 16 bit, all to no avail, I still lose the white custom balance as shot.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated, I've thus far been totally unable to work with raw images from the G9 regardless of what versions of the various software and tools I have loaded.

Hi, thanks once again for responding.
My dilemma is that the final results of an artifically induced white balance through channel switching won't give the same results as the false color image produced when the original white balance is done on-site using the non-IT filtered color metering system of the camera. It can give an approximation, but it will lack in a great many nuances.
IR images taken using the Canon G9 produce correct .JPGs, but the processing of the CR2 files by camera raw is flawed in the way that it is handling the white balance settings in the CR2 it seems. Images produced by other camers such as our Nikon D80 or others that use formats other than CR2 come through perfectly. Only the CR2 images are incorrect. This may be linked to the use of custom white balances instead of standard white balance settings, perhaps something in the file contents identifying which white balance (the camera has approximately eight) is being used and should be processed. Or perhaps the file itself is being incorrectly produced by the camera. Who know, eh?
I know the CR2 format in the G9 is relatively new and full support will come in time, but I'd hoped that it was some obscure setting that could get us back on track. In the meantime, we are using the .JPG images from the G9, which come through correctly processed. But this is sub-optimal, and one of the primary reasons for settling on the G9 was to have the raw images. Afetr all, how many 12MP compact cameras out there produce raw image files, eh? :)
If nothing else, perhaps this conversation will prompt some research and eventually correct processing of CR2 will emerge.

  • IPhoto 6.06 Will Not Import RAW CR2 files Taken Through an Uncoupled Lens

If I use adapters to couple my Canon 20D to a telescope (which is an electronically uncoupled lens and has no lens-related exif data), iPhoto freezes and will not import a RAW Canon CR2 file taken through any telescope. It imports such jpegs just fine, and Preview can open either. iPhoto, however, must be forced to quit under the Apple menu.
It doesn't matter where the RAW file is...in the camera, on the desktop, in a card reader, or on a CD.
This is an obvious bug in iPhoto.

Do you have access to an Apple store, or a friend
with Aperture? It would be interesting to see if
    Aperture has the same problem.
Not that it really matters, but a bug in both
iPhoto and Aperture is more likely to be fixed!
I don't know anybody who uses Aperture, and my nearest Apple Store is 120 miles away in Cincinnati.
I'm able to work around the problem since Canon's Digital Photo Professional, working with Canon's EOS Utilty, imports and processes these images just fine, as does Photoshop CS.
However, I miss the premise that iPhoto should be the central organizer and storage vessel for all of one's digital photos, making naming, finding, and backing them up a snap, even though a different program may be used for processsing them.
As an aside, Canon's download site warns that EOS Utility 1.1.1 will not work on Intel Macs; it does...with full functionality.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Why has LR4 suddenly started to refuse to download RAW CR2 files?

Today I went to LR4 and tried to import RAW CR2 files into the program using the usual import process which is pretty automatic. I also asked that copies be saved as DNG files. No matter what I tried, I got an error message saying that the files could not be imported. I use a Canon 5D Mark III. The only difference in today's shoot was that I used and HDSC card instead of a CF card. No other obvious changes. Clearly, this is a serious concern. What amI missing?

    Hi,
I too have been having trouble importing CR2s consistently using Lightroom 4.3. I use a Canon 5D Mark III with Macbook OS X 10.7.
Spoke with Canon this morning and apparently they are getting a few calls about this problem. For me, it is not a permissions issue.
I swapped cards, cords, reinstalled Lightroom and updated everything. I bought a card reader and that is the only thing that works.
Seems to be some kind of communication problem between Lightroom (4.3) and my Canon 5D M3.

  • Repeating same import statement in different source files

If we have to repeat same bunch of import statements in all the java classes do we have an alternative rather than declaring the same import statements in all the java classes.

Then don't you think its waste to repeate the same line in every class. Even if we have to chance one statement we have do it in all the classes say for example today I am using an object from "abc.ab.c" and tomorrow some one changes the package to "abc.ba.c" then we have to update the same in all of the classes where ever we use "abc.ab.c" earlier. Not especially. IDEs do the heavy lifting, and what would you think could be an alternative? Global implicit imports, configured on the compiler? Don't like that idea. Explicitly declaring exactly what imports each class has is a very good indicator of certain code smells, like god classes and the like. If I have to hunt around for what classes a particular piece of source is using, that's an extra hoop I'd rather not jump through
If you're finding it a bind to have to re-import huge amounts of classes into loads of other classes, that in itself is a good indicator you've got design problems

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

can some help with CR2 files ,I can`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge when I open Adobe Photoshop cs5- help- about plugins- no camera raw plugins. When i go Edit- preference and click on camera raw  shows message that Adobe camera raw plugin cannot be found

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.

In case  you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.
