Help: Creating a cluster for Oracle Database

In school, we've been testing the grid infraestructure, ASM and oracle database
but now, for a research, we should be able to install, Grid+Asm and oracle database Using at least 3 computers
where should we start?
we want to install all of them since the begining, I mean, A network. Operating system on each computer, disk slices for the ASM, and the Oracle database.
thanks in advance!

1. Install OS
2. Set IPs on DNS
3. Prepare the disk storage for ASM
4. create users,groups and directory,
5. install package requirements (see documentations or MOS)
6. runclufy to verify if the systems are ready to be installed
7. install grid infra
8. create diskgroup in asm
9. install oracle software
10. create database
11. verify installation
and the last one is please read http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17214/toc.htm for full details. post here if you encounter problems
Cheers

  • Create LINUX DSN For Oracle Database To Be Used With iODBC

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a DSN for my Oracle 10g database within my RHEL 4 environment. I'm using the iODBC Driver Manager and Oracle's ODBC drivers to do this. If I install Oracle's 10.2.0.4 (or higher) Instant Client and ODBC Drivers, I get the following error while trying to test out the configuration using iodbctest:
    -bash-3.00$ /usr/local/stow/libiodbc-3.52.6/bin/iodbctest
    iODBC Demonstration program
    This program shows an interactive SQL processor
    Driver Manager: 03.52.0607.1008
    Enter ODBC connect string (? shows list): DSN=UCMdev
    1: SQLDriverConnect = [iODBC][Driver Manager]/orbdev/instantclient_11_1/libsqora.so.11.1: undefined symbol: SQLGetPrivateProfileStringW (0) SQLSTATE=00000
    2: SQLDriverConnect = [iODBC][Driver Manager]Specified driver could not be loaded (0) SQLSTATE=IM003
    -bash-3.00$
    If I try to use Oracle 10.2.0.3 Instant Client and ODBC drivers with iODBC, I get the following error:
    -bash-3.00$ /usr/local/stow/libiodbc-3.52.6/bin/iodbctest
    iODBC Demonstration program
    This program shows an interactive SQL processor
    Driver Manager: 03.52.0607.1008
    Enter ODBC connect string (? shows list): DSN=UCMdev
    1: SQLDriverConnect = [iODBC][Driver Manager]/orbdev/instantclient_10_2/libsqora.so.10.1: undefined symbol: bcuMsgBoxError (0) SQLSTATE=00000
    2: SQLDriverConnect = [iODBC][Driver Manager]Specified driver could not be loaded (0) SQLSTATE=IM003
    -bash-3.00$
    Can somebody please let me know how to proceed. We cannot go with any other ODBC Driver Manager, hence unixODBC is out of the picture. We have to use iODBC.
    Thanks!

    I made a database whose path is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\depot1
    I tried to make .udl connection file, but when I click on "test connection" with the provider: "OLEDB Provider for Microsoft SQL Server" I get the Error "UDL Connection File Failure" (attached below)
    When I tried to make the .udl connection file with the provider "Microsoft SQL native Client 11.0" and when I click on "Test Connection" I get the Error" UDL Native Client_1"& " UDL Native Client_2".
    Please help!

  • Configuring Active-Passive cluster for Oracle Database on Red hat

    Can I configure the red hat cluster suite to implement an Active-Passive Oracle Service without configuring GFS Volume manager?
    In other words, I want to install Oracle Standard Edition for Red hat on 2 node separately. Subsequently I am creating an Oracle Instance on the firsth node whith Oracle datafile, redologfile, controlfile,initfile on a SAN Storage. Subsequently I want to configure red hat cluster suite to start the Oracle Instance on the second node when the the firsth node fail. Only one node at time have the Oracle Instance up. Does this configuration works correctly or I have to install and configure any software to manage shared storage file system(like GFS Volume Manager or OCFS, ASM ecc.)?
    Thanks

    This scenario is usually done through custom scripts.
    To get an idea of what is required, I recommend you look through Oracle's DataGuard documentation, as Data Guard is a free utility included in the Enterprise Edition to do exactly what you want.
    (Having spent a lot less money to buy the less expensive product, you now have the opportunity to spend more in programmer and maintenance costs to create your own solution.)

  • Createing a DSN for oracle

    I need help creating a DNS for oracle. I am using windows 98 and the database is in my computer. I am trying to create a DNS on the same computer so that i can access it through ASP that is setup on my computer ( Mircrosoft Personel Web Server ) which is very similar to IIS. I tried creating user,system, and file dns but none of them work. I recive a errors when i try to create these, none of them are able to connect to the oracle instance that run on my computer. Please HELP!

    I have created a DSN in a web server (a Public IP machine) that is mapped to a Oracle DB.
    In my Excel using VBA coding, with the help of RDO object I will call the DSN in the Web server using the connection string like "DSN=ORS;UID=SDATA;PWD=SDATA;"
    This is working fine and in this case the client machine doesn't need Oracle client to be installed or any TNS entry.
    The user can run the Excel report by clicking a button and the click event connects the DSN in the web server (through its URL) and routes to the mapped DB and fetches the quried data.
    Please note that the above DSN is created based on Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
    But the issue is using the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver I couldnt call the SP with Ref Cursor.
    When I searched in Internet I came to know using the provider oraoledb.oracle we can call SP that uses REF CURSOR.
    Now my question is what is the driver name that I can use to create a DSN to make use of the provider oraoledb.oracle for calling the SP with REF CURSOR from Excel VBA coding ?
    Appreciate your prompt reply.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sathish

  • Oracle SQL template to create re-usable DDL/DML Scripts for Oracle database

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to put together a Oracle SQL template to create re-usable DDL/DML Scripts for Oracle databases.
    Only the Oracle DBA will be running the scripts so permissions is not an issue.
    The workflow for any DDL is as follows:-
    1) New Table
    a. Check if the table exists from the system/admin views.
    b. If table exists then give message "Table Exists"
    c. If table does not exist then execute DDL code
    2) Add Column
    a. Check if Column exists for a given table from system/admin views
    b. If column exists in the specified table,
    b1. backup table.
    b2. alter table to make changes to the column
    b3. verify data or execute dml script convert from backup to the new change.
    c. If Column does not exist
    c1. backup table
    c2. alter table to add column
    c3. execute dml to populate column with default value.
    The DML scripts are for populating base tables with data required for business operations.
    3) Add new row
    a. check if row exists by comparing old values of each column with new values to be added for the new record.
    b. If exists, give message row exists
    c. If not exists, add new record.
    4) Update existing record (We have createtime columns in these tables so changes can be tracked)
    a. check if row exists using primary key.
    b. If exists,
    b1. deactivate the record using the "active" column of the table
    b2. Add new record with the changes required.
    c. If does not exist, add new record with the changes required.
    Could you please help with some ideas which can get this done accurately?
    I have tried several ways, but I am not able to put together something that fulfills all requirements.
    Thank you,

    First let me address your question. (This is the easy part.)
    1. The existence of tables can be found in DBA_TABLES. Query it and and then use conditional logic and execute immediate to process the DDL.
    2. The existence of table columns is found in DBA_TAB_COLUMNS. Query it and then conditionally execute your DDL. You can copy the "before picture" of the table using that same dba view, or even better, use DBMS_METADATA.
    As for your DML scripts, they should be restartable, reversible, and re-run-able. They should "fail gracefully" on error, be written in such a way that they can run twice in a row without creating duplicate changes.
    3. Adding appropriate constraints can prevent invalid duplicate rows. Also, you can usually add to the where clause so that the DML does only what it needs to do without even relying on the constraint (but the constraint is there as a safeguard). Look up the MERGE statement to learn how to do an UPSERT (update/insert), which will let you conditionally "deactivate" (update) or insert a record. Anything that you cannot do in SQL can be done with simple procedural code.
    Now, to the heart of the matter...
    You think I did not understand your requirements?
    Please be respectful of people's comments. Many of us are professionals with decades of experience working with databases and Oracle technology. We volunteer our valuable time and knowledge here for free. It is extremely common for someone to post what they feel is an easy SQL or PL/SQL question without stating the real goal--the business objective. Experienced people will spot that the "wrong question" has been asked, and then cut to the chase.
    We have some good questions for you. Not questions we need answers from, but questions you need to ask yourself and your team. You need to reexamine this post and deduce what those questions are. But I'll give you some hints: Why do you need to do what you are asking? And will this construct you are asking for even solve the root cause of your problems?
    Then ponder the following quotations about asking the right question:
    Good questions outrank easy answers.
    — Paul Samuelson
    The only interesting answers are those which destroy the questions.
    — Susan Sontag
    The scientific mind does not so much provide the right answers as ask the right questions.
    — Claude Levi-Strauss
    You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.
    — Mahfouz Naguib
    One hears only those questions for which one is able to find answers.
    — Friedrich Nietzsche
    Be patient towards all that is unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.
    — Rainer Maria Rilke
    What people think of as the moment of discovery is really the discovery of the question.
    — Jonas Salk
    Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers.
    — Voltaire
    The ability to ask the right question is more than half the battle of finding the answer.

    Good Day All, and thanks in advance…
    During the installation of grid infrastructure(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC One Node on AIX6.1 ( PROD) , ASM used. I am getting below errors when executing ./root.sh
    Upon investigation ,I managed to get note: 1068212.1 from the support oracle site ( see below for details) . I might be hitting Unpublished bug 8670579. I also logged Severity 2 SR with Oracle support to get the bug/patch fix and no one has attended the call.
    This might be configuration issue or otherwise , if you have experienced the same issue please assist ? ( if you need more logfiles please feel free to request)….
    I ran the Cluster Verify Check – all passed.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
    We are also trying to install 11.2.0.2 Grid infrastructure for Oracle RAC One Node on AIX 6.1. We did a POC in our lab environment and after much struggle got that working. Now we are building 4 clusters in the production environment and the first cluster installation failed while running root.sh on node2. We already have a Sev1 ticket open with Oracle Support but have not heard anything.
    Here is root.sh output from node2. The two node names are p01dou416 and p01dou417.

  • How to choose a right server for Oracle Database!

    Hi all,
    Is there any formular that allows me to find the appropriate server configuration for Oracle database 11g?
    Please help!
    Thank you all.
    Dan.
    Edited by: Dan on 01:45 06-01-2013

    Simply put ... no.
    Determining the correct server is a dance between hardware vendors (one point of input to be treated with general distrust), internal expertise and experience working with similar systems, and most importantly understanding the behaviour of what you are building.
    Here are some sample questions to start the ball rolling.
    1. What operating system expertise does your organization have?
    2. What operating system expertise is readily available in the community from which you hire applicants?
    3. What type of application?
    4. What are up-time expectations?
    5. Requirements for high availability?
    6. Requirements for time to perform a full recovery?
    7. Requirements for security?
    8. Storage footprint (dictates internal storage versus SAN, NAS, or ZFS)
    9. Anticipated growth (3-7 years)
    Everyone wants to sell you CPU clock-ticks, more RAM, more IOPS, etc. But the first thing you need to understand is the capabilities you require that are generic: Required of any solution. Only when you have a clear understanding of these factors are you ready to discuss whether the solution is a pizza box or an ODA ... an Exadata or an IBM System Z.
    Far too often I find people purchasing RAM they don't need with CPU speeds that exceed the ability of their network infrastructure to move the data so pay special attention when you are ready to make your purchase to engineered systems like the ODA.

  • Error while creating datasource userdsn for oracle 10g Errorcode (998)

    while creating datasource userdsn for oracle 10g i am getting error "The setup routines for the oracle in OraDb10g_home1 odbc driver could not be loaded due to system error code 998" please give reply soon

    Thanks for your reply , Steve.
    I noticed that there is a default datasouce on the EM with the following parameters:
    <data-source
              class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
              name="OracleDS"
              location="jdbc/OracleCoreDS"
              xa-location="jdbc/xa/OracleXADS"
              ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
              connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
              username="scott"
              password="->pwForScott"
              url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:oracle"
              inactivity-timeout="30"
         />
    The location and xa-location attributes that I use for my "test" data source are the same as the default one. So, could this be the issue?
    What should be the values for location and xa-location attributes from my "test" data source?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shyam

  • "Error while accessing porting layer for ORACLE database via getSessionId()

    Hi,
    My ejb3.0 Entity is created from Emp table in scott/tiger schema of an Oracle 10g database. I am guessing I made some mistake creating the datasource or uploading the driver, because when I run my application, I get a long exception stack trace. The bottom-most entry in the stack trace is:

  • How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)

    How to set JDBC Data Sources in Oracle MapViewer for Oracle database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1)?
    The following is my configuration in the conf\mapViewerConfig.xml:
    <map_data_source name="mvdemo12"
    jdbc_host="127.0.0.1"
    jdbc_sid="orcl12c1"
    jdbc_port="1522"
    jdbc_user="mvdemo"
    jdbc_password="7OVl2rJ+hOYxG5T3vKJQb+hW4NPgy9EN"
    jdbc_mode="thin"
    number_of_mappers="3"
    allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="true"
    editable="true"/>
    <!--  ****  -->
    But it does not work.
    After use "sqlplus mvdemo/[email protected]:1522/pdborcl", it connected to the Oracle database 12c.
    Does anyone know it?
    Thanks,

    For 11.1.1.7.1 use the syntax for jdbc_sid, i.e.
    //mypdb1.foo.com as described in the README,
    - MapViewer native (non-container) data sources can now use database service name in place of SID. To supply a db service name, you will use the same jdbc_sid attribute, but specify the service name with double slashes in front, such as follows:
      <map_data_source name="myds"
        jdbc_host="foo.com"
        jdbc_sid="//mypdb1.foo.com"
        jdbc_port="1522"
      />
    For 11.1.1.7.0 use a container_ds instead.
    i.e. instead of using
    <map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
                       jdbc_host="mydbinstance"
                       jdbc_sid="pdborcl12c"
                       jdbc_port="1522"
                       jdbc_user="mytestuser"
                       jdbc_password="m2E7T48U3LfRjKwR0YFETQcjNb4gCMLG8/X0KWjO00Q="
                       jdbc_mode="thin"
                       number_of_mappers="6"
                       allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
                       editable="false"
       />
    use
      <map_data_source name="my_12c_test"
                       container_ds="jdbc/db12c"
                       number_of_mappers="6"
                       allow_jdbc_theme_based_foi="false"
                       editable="false"
       />
    In my case the Glassfish 3.1.2.2 JDBC connection pool definition was
    Property
    url  jdbc:oracle:thin:@mydbinstance:1522/pdborcl12c.rest_of.service.name
    Uncheck the Wrap JDBC Objects option in Advanced panel, i.e. the Edit JDBC Connection Pool Advanced properties page.
    Add a JDBC resource for that newly created pool
    Use that in mapviewerconfig.xml as above

  • Can we create new tablespace in Oracle Database 10g Express Edition?

    Hi,
    Can we create new tablespace in Oracle Database 10g Express Edition instead of using the default "users" tablespace provided?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    Correct. The sum of all user tablespaces is not allowed to exceed 4 GIG.
    You could try shrinking your tablespaces. Theres a script called maxshrink on http://asktom.oracle.com which is useful for this.
    You could compress your tables.
    If you are storing lobs, you could consider storing them as bfiles.
    Or upgrade to Oracle Standard Edition 1. Its not that expensive.

  • Server Sizing For Oracle Database

    Hi All,
    I need a server sizing for the below mentioned architecture:
    This application is basically for logistics company which we are planing to host it centrally with two server's one server for application and one for oracle database along with DR site (Other Location). There are four locations and each location will have 20 users who are going to access this application (20 x 4= 80 Users). We are using MPLS network of 35 mbps bandwidth.
    1. Application server: Windows server 2008 R2
    2. Database Server: Windows server 2008 R2, Oracle 11g r2
    I need a server sizing documents.

    Thanks........I'd seriously reconsider hosting Oracle db on Windows. Obviously there are many, many shops that do. And obviously it is often a case of the fact that they do not have (and choose to not acquire) expertise in Linux. But I've been in IT for 30+ years and have worked on IBM S-370 and its variants and descendents, Windows since v3, DEC VMS, IBM OS/2, Solaris, AIX, HPUX, and Oracle Linux. The first Oracle database I ever created was on Windows 3.11 and at that point I had never seen *nix.  Now I am in a position to state that Windows is the worst excuse of an operating system of any I have ever used.  I am constantly amazed/amused by how often (at least once a month on schedule, plus unplanned times) that our Windows SA has to send out a notice that he is re-booting his servers.  I can't remember the last time we had to reboot a Linux server ( I have 4 of them)
    Yes, I'm biased away from Windows, but that bias comes from experience. Hardly a day goes by that I don't see something that causes me to say to whoever is in earshot "have I told you how much I hate Windows?"I was going to refrain from commenting on that, as I assumed they're a Windows shop and aren't open to any other OS (but my assumption could be incorrect).
    I haven't been working in IT for as long as many of the folks around here, only about 10 years. I'm a former system admin that maintained both Linux and Windows servers, but my focus was on Windows. In the right hands, Windows can be rock solid. If a system admin has to reboot Windows servers often, he is most likely doing something wrong, or is rebooting for security updates. It's never as simple as "Windows Sucks," or "Linux Sucks;" it all depends on who's running the system (again, in my opinion).
    I have seen some windows servers run uninterrupted for so long no one could remember the admin password. But more often memory leaks and the "weekly update" (replacing last weeks bugs with this weeks) is the culprit.
    Yes, it really is sad how often you have to reboot for updates if you want to keep your system current. Mind you, it's better to have the fixes then to not have them (maybe). I rebooted my servers about once every month at my old place... which is not that bad.
    With that said, in my experience, Oracle on Windows is a major pain. It takes me much longer to do anything. Once you get proficient with a CLI like the bash shell, the Windows GUI can't compare.Agreed. One of my many complaints about Windows is the poor excuse of a shell processor. I'm pretty proficient in command line scripting, but still cringe when I have to do it. Practically every line of code I write for a command script is accompanied by the remark "this is so lame compared to what I could do with a shell script". Same for vi vs. notepad. But my real problem is the memory leaks and the registry. I'm fairly comfortable hacking certain areas of the registry, but the need to and the arcane linkages between different areas of the registry and how they influence 'process environment' remains a mystery to all but a tiny minority of admins. Compare to *nix where everything is well documented and "knowable".
    One (of many) anecdotal experiences, this with my personal Win7 laptop. One time it crashed and refused to reboot. A bit of a google search turned up some arcane keystroke sequence to put it into some sort of recovery mode on bootup .. similar to getting into the bios, but the keystroke sequence was much more complex .. it may have involved standing on one foot while entering the sequence. Anyway, it entered a recovery process I've never seen before or since and repaired everything. My first thought was "hey, that was pretty cool." Then my second thought was 'but only Windows would need such a facility.
    Bottom line? To paraphrase a famous Tom Hanks character, "My momma always said Windows was like a box of chocolates. You never know just what you'll get."Haha... I like that one. Yes, the registry is definitely horrible. It's amazing to me that a single point of failure was Microsoft's answer to INI files.
    I think Windows and nix have their places. Server work definitely seems more productive to me in a nix environment, but I think I'd jump off a cliff if I had to use it as my desktop environment day-in-day-out. The other problem is application lock-down; I can't blame the OS for that, but it's a reality... and using virtualization to run those applications seems to defeat the point to me.

    I downloaded Oracle Solaris 10 s/w from e-Delivery and got it installed. For Oracle Database 11gR2 I also need the followging patches:
    120754-06: SunOS 5.10_x86 libmtsk
    119961-05: SunOS 5.10_x86: Assembler
    119964-14: SunOS 5.10_x86 Shared library patch for C++_x86
    Though we have access to MyOracleSupport we can only download s/w patches using our support contract with Oracle and not OS patches.
    Is there any other way I can get these patches.
    Rgds,
    Thiru.

    Thiru,
    You won't find the patches in the patches/ directory on the DVD or the ISO image. Oracle integrates the patches directly into the packages, so there is no need to provide or install them separately.
    All patches have a patch number (e.g. 120754) and a revision (e.g. 06). A newer revision of a patch always contains all fixes of the previous revisions. So try to run "showrev -p | grep 120754" instead, and you'll see that patch 120754-08 is pre-installed. As revision 08 is newer/higher than 06, the patch requirement is satisfied.
    Hope that helps,
    mp.
