Help CS2 and Vista

Hi,
I’ve been running CS2 on Vista for about 4 years on my laptop with no problems. Last weekend  I got a Malware virus that had to be removed by McAfee. They made some changes to the Vista OS and also installed Service Pack 2 for Vista. Now CS2 won’t load- it asks me for an authorization code and asked that I activate by phone. The Adobe rep directed me to a support page on the Adobe website and to remove the .DAT files in the program licenses file. I tried this – no go. Also tried to run as administrator- no go.
When I looked thru my hard drive folders, I saw that I have adobe program licenses folders in TWO PLACES
C:\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
And
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
I’m guessing here, but It seems like McAfee uninstalled CS2 and then reinstalled it and tried to protect my license in a quarantined folder. In any case, the files in each of  the License folders are different. Should I try to move my “quarantined” files to their original folder? Would this be safe? Would this work?
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions here? I didn’t get much help from Adobe on this. They said that CS2 is too old to give phone tech support. ( even though I bought Photoshop CS5 extended and Lightroom to run on my home computer 2 months ago)
I really would like to get this back because without reinstalling from disc. I have customized many CS2 programs, brushes, actions, printer settings etc, that would be lost if I reinstall and from other forums, It seems that a lot of people are having problems installing from disc to Vista.
Help!!!

My suggestion is to forget about CS2 and Vista and give serious thought to upgrading...NOW! CS2 is totally unsupported under Vista is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing. Why now? Because CS5.5 has already been announced and in the mean time you can get the CS2 to CS5 Design Premium upgrade for $768: http://amzn.to/ekY9fa. That will make you eligible for a free upgrade to CS5.5 when it ships in the next few weeks. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html
The CS2 to CS5.5 upgrade will cost about $200 more. By buying CS5 now you'll save that $200 and get a free upgrade as well as having a supported combination of software and operating system. You'll also keep yourself eligible for upgrade pricing for the foreseeable future.

  • Droplets with CS2 and Vista

Can anyone help? I'm having a little trouble with CS2 droplets. They work fine on one of my PCs with windows XP but when I try to use them on a machine with Vista a message comes up 'Photoshop CS2 has stopped working' This also happens when I double click on the droplet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you mean that the droplet you made on XP doesn't work on Vista? in that case you have to drag the droplet over the Photoshop icon for it to update it

  • CS2 and Vista

This has probably appeared here many times: CS2 Premium got installed on Dell+Vista, worked for some time, then suddenly quit opening, showing a message like "you don't have adm status, log as adm".
Well, I was logged as adm. Called Dell, no clue. Called Adobe: try uninstall and install: wouldn't install. Called Dell back, they told me to reinstate original Dell Vista that came with computer. Did that, still didn't install.
Called Adobe, they said, well, CS2 doesn't support Vista, no patch or update available. End of story.
Anyone knows any workaround here, short of installing XP on my computer just to run CS2?

    32- or 64-bit Vista?
Lots of users have managed to get CS3 to run, and some CS2, but you need to provide full details about your OS and system.

  • DEP error on CS2 in Vista

I've done some googling and troubleshooting but can't seem to find a fix for this. We've recently "upgraded" to Vista at work. We run Photoshop CS2 (with unfortunately no plans of upgrading in the very near future). Installation of CS2 appeared to be fine, but didn't seem to activate properly. I closed it out, made sure the old copy of CS2 was deactivated on our previous computer. When I reopened CS2 on Vista (64 bit), it asks me to register. Whatever I do with the registration fields doesn't seem to matter, photoshop immediately shuts down with the following Date Execution Prevention error:

I've gone into the DEP settings and manually set it to ignore photoshop and run it without DEP oversight, but it's made no difference.
I thought I'd read that CS2 generally ran fine in Vista (32bit or 64bit), but obviously it's not working here. Any thoughts?

With Vista you have to run the .exe file as Admin.
Also insure that in msconfig, that in the start up tab, Adobe CS2 Service Manager is checked. (least in CS4 it is called that so it should be the same or close to it.
Also if you google PS CS2 and Vista you will see that on a lot of systems there are issues running it.
Edit: also when you do get it up and running to update CS2 and also if you have video card driver problems to update those too.

  • Help missing for PS CS2 on Vista

I installed both Premiere Pro 2.0 and Photoshop CS2 on Vista. The Help files are available for Premiere Pro 2.0 but not available for Photoshop CS2. Tried all steps outlined in Adobe TechNote 319210 for cases when Help Center content is missing. However, none of these steps solved the problem. Help for Photoshop CS2 is still not listed in Help Center.
Thanks for any tips or directions on getting Help to work for Photoshop CS2 running on Vista.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the following, as suggested, but no success.
    1) Looked in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\ but no Photoshop or Premiere folder. There was an Adobe Reader folder with the Help.html however.
    2) Went to FAQs and followed steps provided in post there. Cleared the Help Preferences, then deleted the Cache, Database, Preferences, and Search folders under ...\AdobeHelpData\. Left the Packages folder with the Photoshop_9.0_en-us.zip and PremierePro_2.0_en-us.zip files, then double clicked the ahc.exe file. Help Center appeared but no indication that rebuilding was taking place, and the Help Center content was empty (not even Premiere Pro). I looked at the directory structure under ...\AdobeHelpData\ and Help Center did rebuild the folders previously deleted.
Restored folders under ..\AdobeHelpData\ to original status and executed Help Center again. As expected, Premiere Pro appeared in the content but not Photoshop CS2.
The product version of Help Center I am using on Vista is 2.1.212002.0.
Tried to reinstall Help Center (using download from Adobe), but installation was aborted. The error mesg only said that a problem occurred, but gave no details.
I do not think this is a Vista problem since Help Center works fine with Premiere Pro 2.0. However, not sure.
Is there anything else I can try?

  • I have tried downloading photoshop cs2 and cs4 on a new computer.  I have the disc available for cs2 and the serial number for cs4.  They are both registered in my name.  I need help doing a download.

I have tried downloading photoshop cs2 and cs4 on a new computer.  I have the disc available for cs2 and the serial number for cs4.  They are both registered in my name.  I need help doing a download.  I was able to get part way through cs4, it showed up in my downloads but never got as far in the process as to ask for serial numbers.  I tried with cs2 and I got an error message that some bit of information was incorrect.  I currently have both downloaded on two other lap tops I own.  One is operational and one is dead.  I cannot access the dead one to remove the program. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

For CS2 you will need to download a special new version

  • Compatibility Issues with CS2 and Windows 2000 XP??? This is supposed to be THE one operating system CS2 DOES WORK ON? Can someone help - I really need my CS2 back! Thanks.

HELP! Years ago - SEVEN to be exact- I PURCHASED Adobe CS2 and used it extensively. Then I was in an accident that took five years to recover from. After my recovery I tried to get back to using my Adobe products only to find that Adobe was discouraging use of CS2 and since I OWN a LICENSE and that was the LAST version I used I wanted to begin again with a version I am familiar with. Many months later, apparently I wasn't the only one who wanted to KEEP USING CS2 and now Adobe has made it possible to download this version for PC and MAC, BUT due to OS compatibility issues Adobe continues to discourage downloading and use. HERE'S THE THING: I have the SAME SYSTEM running the SAME OS as when I first PURCHASED IT. I have downloaded the EXACT SAME VERSION of CS2. It installs fine. But I cannot OPEN the application and the troubleshooter reports there are "COMPATIBILITY ISSUES". WHY?!?!?!?!?
I'm on a PC running Windows 2000 XP. I OWN a LICENSE for Adobe CS2 and it used to run on this very same machine. I had to re-format my system two years ago so it has much more free space but when I  try to OPEN the application it won't run. When I run the Windows Troubleshooter it reports system compatibility issues?! Can anyone advise me what to try now??? Thank you.

Yes, I have. My system was completely cleaned of everything and I'm just now RE-INSTALLING CS2 for Windows2000 XP from the Adobe site that gives you versions to select for your OS. I have successfully downloaded disks 1,2 and 3 and I can INSTALL disks 1 and 2, but it FAILS at disk 3. I REALLY need to resolve this today because I need to submit some work by tomorrow and the troubleshooting isn't helping!
Can you advise anything else . . . anyone? Thank you!

  • Airport Express and Vista DHCP - HELP ME!

    Hello,
I have HP Pavilion model of laptop with Broadcomm Wireless chipset and Vista Home Basic on board. I am trying to connect to my Airport Express router but no way to obtain IP address from the router. On my Macbook everything work fine without any problems. Vista cannot connect to Airport, why, any incopatibility, how to fix it? I have read about DHCP Broadcast flag enabled in Vista, but I tried setting it to 0 and nothing. I am using closed network configuration and WPA2. No iTunes installed on Vista so far.
    Please any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions forum Gary.
I can find nothing likely to be the instruction sheet you mentioned, but it shouldn't be necessary. What you probably need to do is download and install Apple's latest version of Airport Utility for Windows:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortUtility_5_4_1Windows
If you can't see your Express in Airport Utility you might need to reset it, followed by reconfiguring it with Airport Utility: Resetting AirPort Express
You might want to upload new firmware. The latest firmware for a two year old Express is version 6.3. Airport Utility contains that firmware and will tell you what to do if you need to do it.
If you still can't see your Express, you might have some Windows firewall issue to cope with. Try turning your Windows firewall "off" temporarily, until you fix that problem.
Your iTunes will be disturbing your neighbors again before you know it. Hope it helps!

  • Tech Help with PSE5 /Vista and XP

I don't know why, but I've had nothing but trouble when installing PSE5 on either my main PC Running Vista Ultimate, or my lappy running XP Home.
I hope someone can help 'cos I am running out of places to find technical help and advice.
    Vista installation
I have struggled for a year now with a crippled installation.
This is the best I have been able to achieve.
Install from disk: programme fails to initiate, messages re various files not found.
Followed all advice on the Adobe help pages including installing the infamous "Patch 502" which made my problems worse.
Finally managed to get a working (just) installation by copying disk to desktop and installing from the ".msi" file as it wouldn't install from the ".exe" file.
    Result
Programme loads and is workable, but lacks any of the help files.
I have located the help files folder "Adobe Help Center (0)", and would like to know where I should pase it in order to activate the feature.
    XP Home Installation
This one was much simpler! installed straight from disk, with the luxury of help files! HOWEVER, (there always seems to be a "however" when installing PSE 5)
Installing some extra tools and brushes, I placed the downloaded folder on my desktop for convenience, whilst installing them.
Once installed, I cloosed PSE 5, and attempted to delete the Downloaded folder from my desktop.
"Acess Denied" ! Following other's advice, I enclosed the folder in an un-named one, and dragged it to my documents, and tried again.
"Acess Denied" ! Horror of horrors, I noticed that the folder had not "Moved" but only "Copied"...Now I had three of 'em..rabbits comes to mind!
I eventually decided to re-boot into safe mode to kill 'em!
Whilst shutting down, (with nothing running) I noticed a window pop up saying "Closing Photoshop Elements"!
I aborted the shut down to investigate,
Opening Task Mgr. There were no applications running.
Switching tabs to "Processes", there were FIVE instances of Photoshop running each occupying fairly small amounts of memory, I can't remember how much, but I had to "End Task" on each of them before I was allowed to delete the folder that I had been denied access to.
As you can imagine, I have been a little paranoid when opening PSE 5 since, and always start Task Manager first.
This reveals that as a matter of course, When Photoshop Elements 5 opens, an entry appears in "Processes" as expected, and occupies around 80000MB of memory. At the same time there is also a further instance of Photoshop Elements 5 occupying 720MB of memory.
Upon closing the programme, the larger memory usage disappears, but the smaller one just reduces to occupying 680MB.
This, fortunately doesn't seem to affect shutdown of my laptop though.
Please forgive the length of this post, but I thought that it was best to give you a full account of my "PSE Woes", if I am to expect some usefull help and advice.
Please let me know if you want anything more.
    Thanks.

    Hi Barbara,
On the vista PC, I'm by default the Admin account.
On the XP one, I've no Idea, I have just done a clean install on a brand new HDD, I've not set any password or admin account, so am I Admin or not? lol
Don't use any Norton prods. on either machine
On the XP Machine, I've partitioned the drive into "C" and "D", and allowed installation onto the "C" partition.
Just installed as I would any other piece of software, no special "disablements", just had nothing else visibly running at the time.
This installation seems to be the most successful of the two, since Help files are useable.
The only strange thing is that when opened, There is always two instances of PSE showing in Task Manager, one at 80,000MB and one at 720MB.
On closing, the smaller one reduces to 680MB, the larger one disappears. Don't know if this is normal.
It's a year ago since I went through the nightmare that is installation on the Vista machine, and I can't remember what hoops I had to jump through at the time to get it to work.
I suspect that it took exception to me wanting to seperate it from the "C" drive.
The PC had been set up with 4 Partitions: "C" (O.S): "D" (recovery):"E" (apps): "F" (data) and I forced it to install on "E", inspite of this it insisted on depositing some files on the "C" partition! among which is one in particular, "C;\ProgramFiles\Adobe\"Adobe Help centre" and "Adobe Help Centre(0)" which I feel need to be moved to join the rest of the installation on the "E" drive. Trouble is, I don't know where these are normally situated within the application folders.
I'm sure it would work if I pasted it into the correct place.
In view of the numerous problems I had installing in the first place, I don't feel that un-installing is an option, since I'm scared that the whole thing will refuse to work again...installing "Patch 502" was the biggest headache I've ever experienced with any software I've ever encountered.
It destroyed the (at least) working installation, and made future install attempts impossible.

my photoshop elements12 will not update says error and contact adobe but not open now for help.  windows vista

I need the updates because I just purchased a Nikon D60 and my Photoshop does not read the .NEF files produced by the camera.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Do you really mean the Nikon D60 which shipped in 2008? Was it purchased secondhand?
The Nikon D60 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.
Photoshop CS4 ships with Camera Raw 5.0 so it can read D60 NEF files out of the box. No updates required.
If you do mean the D60 then something else must be going on. e.g. are you using Nikon software to transfer files from camera to computer?

Hi- I can't get my palm and Vista to hotsync.  "the connection cannot be established." and " software not found"  I've downloaded the 6.2 version and still no luck. I have spent so much time trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere!Help!

Same question we ask everyone else who asks this question - which version of Vista?  32bit or 64bit?
64bit Vista can only be synced by a wireless method.  See the many sticky threads in the Windows HotSync section.

  • Help: Dual Boot Vista/XP (multiple partitions) with Rescue and Recovery?

So I re-installed my Thinkpad and want to dual boot Windows XP and Vista Ultimate on separate partitions. I'm using the Windows XP pre-load and a separately licensed Vista Ultimate.
I first installed XP preload and did a backup with RnR. Then I'm installing Vista Ultimate by shrinking the XP partition and creating a new partition for Vista. I plan to use RnR in XP to do another backup from the base and hoping it will backup Vista as well. Will RnR backup both the Vista and XP partition correctly so that when I recovery in the future, it will restore both?
I don't want to blow it and have to redo the whole thing. Help would be much appreciated!
edit: This didn't work, as RnR only allows you to backup as many as partitions as your base image had....

    hi
you say that you have a vista Ultimate did you try making a windows image from the back up and recovery in vista? in that way both of your xp and vista can be save to an hdd or  a set of DVD'S(as a back up image)
else try using acronis true image it should work out ...good luck!

  • Getting help to work in Windows 98, XP, AND Vista

I am having trouble with getting my help system to be
compatible with all three operating systems: Windows 98, XP, and
    Vista.
It is a VERY SIMPLE help system, with no fancy DHTML stuff,
etc. But, the default generated CHM file works fine under XP and
Vista, but under Windows 98, won't allow any topics to be choisen
from the TOC (although the initial help window and initial topic
    display fine).
With Pete Lees' much appreciated help, we tried a CHM file
with all scripting stripped from the files (since it really isn't
necessary) -- the now revised CHM file works fine in Windows 98 and
XP, but has a weird behavior in Vista: The help files display ok in
Vista, except that in the search tab it goes ‘bong’
every time a topic is selected. So if I type in, say,
‘Link’ into the ‘type in the keyword to
find’ field and press ‘list topics’, then when I
down arrow through the topics (or click them individually) it bongs
    for each one.
The ‘bong’ sound is the same sound it makes
normally if you type ‘Link’ into the ‘type in the
keyword to find’ field and press ENTER. It sounds as if there
were a hidden error message box.
I would have thought (silly naive me) that since the RoboHelp
help *says* the Microsoft HTML Help generated by RH works in
Windows 98 and later, that I wouldn't have had to do anything to
make it work under Windows 98.
BTW, the client tried all the initial suggestions from Pete
re. updating W98 help viewer files, registering DLLs, etc., and
none of those seemed to have any effect.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try next??

It's just that they want their app to be backwardly
compatible, as all well-behaved apps are. Obviously, the majority
of their customers will be using XP or Vista, but they don't want
to shut out the "late adopters" out there.

  • Firefox mage quality and resolution was superb when I used XP and Vista. Now that I have Windows 7, however (with the Firefox 3.6.3 version), the image quality and resolution is poor. Please help me!

When I used all the previous Firefox versions in my XP and Vista operating systems, image quality and resolution was excellent! However, now that I have upgraded to Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.3, the image quality and resolution is poor (unacceptable for downloading purposes).

Not only on my site but on most sites I view.
The issue is not solved by resetting the zoom text view (ctrl+0)
The issue is not resolved by starting in safemode with add-ons disabled
The problem seems to only affect .jpeg files and only on Windows 7 on my desktop; as I have viewed several sites using windows XP with my laptop, no issues.
I had the same issue with IE8 and was able to fix the problem with by setting up the compatibility view for all sites. Issue fixed no problems at all. But nothing similar for firefox?

  • Help with cs3 and fcp -from cs2 and fcp thread..

didnt want to hijack the thread about cs2 and fcp so started a new one
hi, I'm using a proRes 422 file (  mov ) 1920x1080p 23.98fps 16:9. Loads and plays fine in CS3 (custom  desktop settings)...but wouldn't mind knowing your project settings for  your trial shooternz...so I can compare...
My file is dark and a little  flat...so I used levels effect adjustments.  However, though it looks  way better and exports OK ( hdtv 1920x1080p 24fps) I do see some "noise"  now if I freeze the frame...is that common or am I over doing it on the  gamma and levels correction ?
I'm just doing hd for the first time really  on this machine, trying to figure out what I need in future for machine  and upgrade to CS5...so I am going to dissect this file and figure this  out til the cows come home so I don't have to deal with problems in  future with new machine, etc.
Another thing...I have media info on this saying  mpeg-4 ( mov wrapper) video = apcn ..audio = ipcm..
    audio  1,536kbps, 1 hz, 16bits, 3 channels, ipcm..
However, there is no  sound on the track which loads into audio 4 when video goes on video 1.   This was shot with a boom - as I can see a boom shadow in shot during "  back to 1 "  on the set (when dolly moves back to 1 etc) .... ( sound  mixer) so it's possible there is in fact NO SOUND embedded in the video  file.  Is that common to have a soundtrack appear even if it is empty  with proRes ?
    thanks...Rod

Wow, not too popular a subject ...this....
Got an update from the man who sent me the prores file...and a little info re: his opinion of adobe coming from FCP...I will share it with you all...
If you are going the Adobe route, I would highly recommend that because Premiere  CS5 is a really impressive app when it comes to working with footage and  editing.  I have recently moved over to the Adobe CS5 Suite because Final Cut is  good, but it hasn't been updated in a while....and the Mac is a really expensive  alternative to a really good PC.
The color space for the clip I sent over  was set for Rec709 HD Colorspace which is meant for broadcast, but on a non  calibrated monitor, it will look dark.  It usually requires a gamma shift and  color treatment (since the clip is uncorrected), but it sounds like you are on  your way.
Given the RED work flow, we always shoot raw and make the  adjustments prior to rendering.  The main reason we use the Adobe Suite is  because you can work natively with any footage in the digital work flow.....FCP  requires you to transcode everything into a Pro-Res Quicktime and you lose all  of the really granular ability to treat the footage in order to get through the  edit and color grade.
sooo, new computer will have a broadcast monitor ( just in case one is needed )...
I adjusted my clip by eye, plus vectorgraph etc, (levels and gamma) and it turned out fine...
