HELP! CS5.5 Crashes When Exporting as Interactive PDF

I just finished an 85-page document that needs to be exported as an interactive PDF but when I export it, InDesign CS5.5 crashes as it gets to page 84 every single time. This has happened with other CS5.5 documents but when packaging the files instead.
I have already tried resetting the preferences (via the Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac) method) but to no avail. The document crashed again.
I have also tried saving it as an .idml file and resaving as an .indd file but still, the crash.
Then recently, I received this error message for the very first time: "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents."
I saw the "Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences" thread but am confused as to what I need to delete vs. rename or move.
I'm using Mac OSX 10.6.8 and running InDesign CS5.5 7.5.0.142.

Please upload the crash report to http://pastebin.com and post a link here.

It's teh same as the vulcan nerve pinch you tried -- I assume InDesign prompted you to delete preferences and you said OK.
What happens if you create a new document and Pages (panel) > Move Pages pages 1-83 to the new document, and then recreate 84 and 85 by hand? Does it work? Presumably this is document corruption of some sort.

I created a 24 page interactive form for an iPad in InDesign CS6 for a class project. I used the new buttons and forms feature. Whenever I try to export the form to an interactive pdf InDesign crashes and an unexpected error crash screen comes up. This is very frustrating because I need to export it to view the interactivity. Can you export it in two halves? If not, does one half export, but the other crash?

  • CS5 crashing when exporting to InCopy

ID CS5 crashes when we export to InCopy (CS5). We've tried many work arounds - move folder from server to desktop, turned off ID and PS pluggins in suitcase, restarted, saved IC by adding all stories to assignments, etc.
Has anyone encountered anything like this? What helped you?

Based on this description, it sounds like a placed graphic is causing the problem. Try item #3 underTroubleshoot print/export problems at the document level in this document:

  • Indesign CS5 Crashes When Exporting Layer to Incopy

I had a designer who emailed me last week stating she was having problems with Indesign CS5 crashing when she exported her text layer to Incopy. I thought it might just be her machine; however, I've experienced the same problem today five times. Is this a known issue? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm in Indesign CS5 (7.0.3).

    Corrupt font perhaps?

  • InDesign CS5 crashing when exporting to PDF - large image?

    Hi can anyone help?
I'm working with some rather large files in InDesign - it's a layout for a vinyl banner. It contains one image, created at 1/2 size @ 600dpi - 1500 mm x 850 mm. The file size generating is 1.25GB. I can't save in any format other than tif, psb, raw. I've gone with tif.
So, I've placed the image above into my document and need to send to the printers to do a resolution test. Unfortunately, when exporting to a high quality PDF, it hangs and InDesign crashes.
I know the image is probably the cause of the issue, but really not sure what I can do about that?
Crash report is here - http://pastebin.com/EBNxE8fS
If anyone can offer any advice on a) how I can save the image as a print acceptable format that DOESN'T create a humongous file size OR b) whether there are any settings i can cgane in InDesign to handle this better?
    Thanks

    Hiya
Thanks for the reply - and yes, I thought the ppi was too high as well HOWEVER thats the specs advised by the production house. I've managed to get the file to export using a ppi of 500 - so it will print at 250ppi full size - which i think is ok, anything above that and my machine just doesn't want to play.
I will try and use the zip compression and see what they results in. Unfortunately, becuase of the size and ppi, I'm only given the 3 file format options to save in as above.
I've explained the situation to my production house and am awaiting their reply. These banners, although will possibly be seen up close, won't in no way be viewed at arms length.
    Thanks for your help

  • InDesign CS5 freezes when exporting file as PDF

InDesign CS5 (7.0.4) run on iMac (OS 10.7.5).
I find that when exporting a document as PDF InDesign suddenly and randomly freezes at some point during the export process.
The only option is to force quit InDesign.
On relaunch InDesign has forgotten all the presets I had saved (eg Document Preset, Preflight Profile).
This happens fairly frequently but I cannot find a pattern to it or an obvious cause.
Thanks in advance or any help anyone can offer!!

  • Premiere Pro CS5 crashing when exporting (only certain file types)

    Hi
I have found that when I try and export media in Premiere Pro CS5, it often crashes during the export. It says
It's only certain file types. For instance, Vimeo HD seems okay but Vimeo SD always crashes mid-export. MPEG is okay too, but MPEG2-DVD always crashes.
Sometimes it says this: "Error Compiling Movie - Unknown Error" but doesn't throw me out of Premiere altogether.
Other times it crashes altogether and Windows gives me this error message: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 258.96 stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Premiere Pro then stops responding so I have to re-open it and start exporting again.
I have checked there are no gaps in my timeline and I have rendered the whole work area. Besides, I doubt it's anything that I'm doing wrong with the project itself because it's exporting fine in some formats.
I am also experiencing random crashes when editing too. Not that often, but occasionally it throws me out - and twice it has made the whole screen go crazy, with weird dotting across the screen (it's scary, it looks like the monitor itself has broken!).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Nick
PS I have a pretty decent new PC - Dell Studio XPS, 8GB, 2x1TB drives, etc. Premiere itself is working great, except for these crashes.

Some drivers do not work well in some systems... so go to nVidia and try a different (usually newer) driver for your card
These notes are for Encore, but they MAY also work in Premiere

  • Crash when exporting Book to PDF

I am trying to export a Book (17 documents, 1822 pages) to PDF. It keeps crashing on the 7th document. I can export that document by itself (148 pages), no problem. I can export documents 1 thru 6 together (472 pages) , and 8 thru 17 together (1202 pages), no problem. But when I try to export the entire book at once, it crashes or freezes on that 7th document. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes it freezes.  I've tried exporting that document to .IDML. I've rasterized two embedded PDF's that are on the page where it freezes, just in case there was something corrupt in those PDF's. I'm at my wits end ...

OK, I THINK I have this solved, it is still exporting but has gone beyond the trouble spot. The entire export process takes almost 30 minutes, and I'm only 10 minutes in, but here is what I found. The problem images came from Excel. At first I thought it might have been because I just copied and pasted them from Excel, so I went back and exported them as PDF's from Excel and "placed" them in InDesign, but that didn't solve the problem. So then I rasterized the PDF's in Photoshop, and that seems to have worked. I'm not sure why these particular images created a problem, because I have many other charts from Excel scattered throughout the Book.
Here is the process I used. Instead of "packaging" the whole works, I just duplicated the file I thought was the offending one and left the duplicate (Copy 1) in my working folder. I deleted a group of pages in the duplicate, then "replaced" the file in the Book with this duplicate and ran the export to PDF process, recording the results as Test 1. That test worked. I duplicated the original again (Copy 2), deleted another set, and ran the test again, recording the results as Test 2, and so on.  Test 7 is the one that seems to be running successfully right now.
John, I really appreciate the quick and comprehensive answers and discussion regarding this problem, it helped me focus on a process that isolated the problem and allowed me to fix it.
BTW, the issue of "packaged" images overwriting others with the same name happened in PageMaker. It was panic time when I printed out a final proof of my work, and the same figures kept showing up over and over in different authors' articles. I don't know if it would occur in InDesign because I don't send InDesign files to the printer ... they all seem to prefer PDF's, which is easier for me anyway.
Now that I've taken so long with this response, the export is finished and IT WORKED!  YAY!!

  • Video disappears when exporting to Interactive pdf

    Hi,
I have just started using InDesign yesterday and am trying to put together an interactive pdf. It is essentially a pdf catalogue with several clients on it. I have carried out all the hyperlinking, but now I want to embed a video into the pdf. I do so by importing a video file and configuring it with the interactive media box. Every time I export he pdf however, the video is completely missing.
I have tried to convert it with Media Encoder to flash, mp4, avi, h.264 etc. I'm not really sure how I can fix it so that it remains an interactive element in a pdf. I have been playing around with the Adobe pdf presets and still nothing.
Could somebody please help me? Complete noob here
    Cheers

You mentioned you have played with PDF presets? Are you sure you have exported Interactive PDF not Adobe PDF (Print)? Those are two different formats in InDesign´s Export File format list... videos are not supported in PDF for print format. And PDF presets works only with PDF for Print, not with Interactive PDF format.
If you are using proper Interactive PDF format, make sure you have checked (Forms and) Media;  Include All option in export window.

  • Indesign CS5 Crashes When Exporting to Incopy

Our company just migrated to CS5 and about half of my designers are crashing when trying to export to Incopy. It seems to happen when they use the "export layer" feature, which is what I have encouraged them to use to save time. Because it's random (some have experienced this and some have not), I'm having trouble pinpointing what could be the culprit. I've actually had this happen to me also on a particular file, but not on others. We tried exporting the files used as templates to idml then opening back up in CS5. That has appeared to work for some files but not others. Just wondered if anyone else is having this problem.

Everyone is patched to 7.0.3. I haven't found a commonality among the files. They span across different departments. We've moved to opentype fonts; however, I will go back and check some of these files to see if there are still some postscript in there.
One thing I haven't thought to do is to change the "basic paragraph" font. Since these files were originally CS4, that style sheet would still be set to Times Roman. Although we don't generally use that default style sheet, it's still stuck in those files. I do know that converting a file from CS4 to CS5 does not change that default font to Minion Pro.

  • Retaining Two-Page Scrolling when Exporting to Interactive PDF Not Working

I'm currently trying to export from InDesign a continuous facing page PDF.
My document has four pages and is set up as pages, not spreads.
Left page is even, right is odd. Looks fine in InDesign.
I need to do Interactive due to hyperlinks, etc.
I choose Export and choose Interactive PDF
My settings are All, Pages, Fit Visible, Two-Up Continuous Facing
When it finishes and opens in Acrobat it's starting as a right, cover page. Even if I go to Two Page Scrolling/Viewing in Acrobat it shows my left-hand page starting on the right.
Is there something in Acrobat that isn't set up correctly? I'm using Adobe Cloud so latest version of all software. Thank you in advance! It's driving me crazy as it's always worked in the past.

Try turning on this setting in Acrobat:
View > Page Display > Show Cover Page in Two Page View

  • Indesign crash when exporting file into pdf

Hi, I am having a little problem with my Indesign program. I don't know how to fix it. So this is what happen....
I finish a 2 page file in Indesign and I wanted to export it to pdf. I click on export and it runs for 1 page and then Indesign crash. I thought it was because I have too much images, so it runs very slow. I delete some picture and try again. The same thing happen.
I don't know what I should do?!?! I search around for help but seems like I am the only one that have that problem??

I have run into the occasional image that causes the PDF export to fail. Sometimes they are AI files and sometimes they are PSD files. I usually resave them in different formats and this fixes the problem. I haven't yet figured out the reason that the files cause the PDF export to have problems. Last week I ran into a complicated AI file that just refused to export to PDF in ID. I saved it out of Illustrator as an EPS and then it exported fine out of ID. Typically I don't have problems with AI files, so it may just be an odd image on page one of your document that is causing the problem.
If it prints okay, you might try printing to PDF rather than exporting.
