Help CS5 content aware healing brush

Sorry for the dumb question folks. I just upgraded and when I click on my healing brush, I do not have a Content Aware option. What am I doing wrong. The porgram defaults to asking me to option click to determine what to use. I am running CS5 on and Imac.
Thanks for the help.

The content aware option is for the spot healing brush, not the healing brush.

  • Why Has The View Image @ %age Gone??? and Comment on 'Content Aware' Healing Brush.

PLEASE, PLEASE BRING BACK the View Image @ 'x' %. on the Top Bar.
It is necessary to view all images at 100% to check for dust on sensor.
It is necessary to view portrait images at 50% to remove obvious skin blemishes before final editing.
Two 'clicks' on CS5  - A convoluted process in CS6 Beta!
Omitting this option is a major retrograde step!
Appreciate the difficulties with this option and it is a plus.
Would be great if you could select an area in one area of image and scale it content aware into another selected area!

There are various ways such as using the Clone Source Panel to scale the source and then use the healing brush, though it doesn't have content aware per se.

  • Content aware healing in PrPro?

i'm pretty sure there is not, but i'm gonna ask anyway, incase i may have missed something.
say you have a video with a few bad frames per minute, total project is about 40 minutes long, and basically about 3 times a minute, theres a bad frame or a hiccup, or a fram of bad pixelation, or something. is there anyway to delete the bad frames, and automate PrPro a way to heal those empty frame sqares with material to the left and right of it (basically, going jurassic park on it and filling the gaps with comperable material?) i've already deleted all the bad frames in a copy of my sequence, but as far as filling them again... i realize i can do this by hand... but it would save sanity if there was a way to say "fill empty gaps with frames touching gaps" effect any luck? or do i have a long weekend ahead of me?

No way in PrPro, no, but I remember seeing something like that done in a YouTube video showcasing some of the improvements in Photoshop CS5--not everyone knows this, but you actually can import video into Photoshop and work with it on a frame-by-frame level. In the YouTube video, this guy had some footage of Buckingham Palace (I think) and wanted to remove some people from in front of it. Rather than rotoscoping it out with AE, he imported it into PS and used the content aware healing to remove it--he was able to set it up to do the first frame manually, and then it automated the rest of the frames based on what he did for the first frame. Pretty sweet, but I doubt it would work for a 40 minute video unless you had a cr*pload of memory... His footage was only like 15 or 20 seconds and it sucked down his memory pretty quickly.

  • Content aware healing

Using the healing brush can slow my system so much it takes several minutes for my system to catch up. Does't happen every time, I think only when I have multiple edits.  When it slows I can watch my brush change size in increments that take about one second per increment to change.

Since Lightroom doesn't have Content Aware Healing, what product are you talking about?

  • Does it have content aware healing

Does aperture have content aware healing brushes

Aperture has a Retouch Brush that works similar to Photoshop's Spot Healing Brush.  This works very well for removing spots left by sensor dust, skin blemishes, etc.  It will not create data in the way that Photoshop's Content-aware Fill does.  Content-aware healing, though, Aperture handles well.
Note, too, that Aperture allows the use of an external editor.  Everyone I know using Aperture for most of the development work done on digital camera files, but keeps Photoshop or another graphics program on hand for the few cases where it is needed.

  • CS5 Content Aware Fill

Demos of the new Photoshop CS5 "content aware fill" feature on the Youtubes -- it looks impressive.
I know " Past performance is not necessarily indicative of  future results", but any guesses on when (or if) this feature would hit the PS Elements code stream?

This is looking like an advanced "must-have" type of feature so my guess is Adobe will keep it at the premium Photoshop level at least until CS6.
Note that Content Aware Scaling was introduced in Photoshop CS4, which came out at around the same time as Photoshop Elements 7 in the autumn of 2008 - but this other related feature wasn't added to Photoshop Elements 8 last fall.  Just a possible analogy.

  • Remove unwanted objects with content-aware healing

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/WS287f927bd30d4b1f-1a883eeb12e2803aa4d -7fdd.html

Have no idea what I did, so don't even ask. lol Double clicked on background layer and ended up creating a clipping mask. The using spot healing brush, I was able to remove water hose by the side of the pool, like I originally intended. I finally had upgraded from PSE 7 because of content aware fill and photomerge (and other stuff lol). The only thing was I seem to have lost my background layer. No problem, was working on a test file copy. Worked pretty good though. Not just have to find out what happened to my background layer. It was locked but ????? lol

  • Photoshop CS5 content-aware scale

Hi, I'm a photoshop CS5.1 64 bits user, I'm following the "Learn adobe photoshop CS5 by video" with the instructor  Kelly McCathran. Well, I need to know how to create two layers with different sizes to apply content-aware scale...I can't! I import a picture (4000x3000) from adobe bridge...When I create a layer with a different dimension (3000x2000) the picture (4000x3000) turns to (3000x2000)!!! What am I supposed to do?

With the smaller image appearing with the larger one in Photoshop, click on the smaller image in its Layers panel and drag it over the larger image.
Once the smaller image is sitting on top of the larger one in the Layers panel, you can change the size of the smaller image by using Edit > Transform > Scale.
Hold down the Shift key as you alter the scale, the image maintains proportion.

  • CS5 content aware move

I am using cs5 extended for MAC.  I am attempting to move an object by using content aware move feature.  When I open the "Fill" box (Edit>Fill), the command for content aware is dimmed and not usable.  What is the fix?

Of course.  This was an article on YouTube, Aug 21, 2010, uploaded by Sandy Cruz.
I failed to take the step of bringing back the marching ants.  This is a very neat procedure to move an object and allow Content Aware to fill the vacant space.

  • CS5: Content Aware Scale vs Image Size

Can someone explain the difference between the outcome of using the new content aware scale versus just going ahead and resizing the image? Or is this a matter of preference? Thanks!

    Hi,
Content aware scale is not so much about resizing an image as much as it is about extending an image. It allows you to stretch the existing pixels along a single axis without distorting (or with less distorting) of the subject or subjects of the image.
In this first photo is the original and the area that needs to be filled with image data to the right.
In this 2nd image I just scaled the image up to fill. As you can see, I've lost a lot of the image as I'm basically cropping it as I scale it up along both the x axis and the y axis.
If I try to just scale the image along the x-axis the image will distort. The ship and the bathers get wider.
In this 4th image I've used content aware scale to "pull" the pixels over only along the x axis. Notice that the ship and the swimmers retain their original appearance.
    Hope that helps

  • Help With Content Awareness

CS 4 was getting long in the tooth so I decided to upgrade. One of the features that helped push me was Content Aware Fill.
I saw videos on the web that made it look magical.
The first thing I did after getting CC configured was to grab a random picture from yesterday's outing and give it a try.  My results were less than magical, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Would someone who's experienced with this feature give me some pointers?
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kap5ebbhku1d7et/93YQBIi-or

I assume from the absence of replies that no one here can help me understand why Content Aware Fill is not working well for me?
    Not necessarily.
Personally I have little use for that feature, but others may have use it more extensively.
I consider it somewhat of a »bells and whistles« feature – looks good in presentations, but …
Also you should, in my opinion, have posted the images
    • on this Forum directly and
    • included the original files (preferably with a path ot alpha channel for the Selection you used).
While the first example does seem disappointing, the second example does not seem that surprising.
Have you tried using a Layer without the palm-trees?

  • Disappointed in PS CS5 content aware fill

My first few attempts at using the content aware fill have been disappointing. I created a panorama and wanted to fill the foreground (misty water) and the sky (cloudy) to the top and bottom of the frame.  I selected the transparent pixel areas that needed to be filled with the water and sky, then I expanded the selection 6 pixels, so that PS had some pixels to reference for the filling operation. There wasn't much sky above the tree line, but the content aware fill worked fine in this area. However filling the foreground with the misty water did not. PS insists on referencing pixels well out of my selection and using these as part of the fill. Even after repeatedly undoing and redoing the content aware fill, PS insisted on using pixels well out of the selected pixels to create the new content aware fill. Why is this?
It seems that the only user control over this tool is the selected pixels. Shouldn't this tell PS the pixels you want it to reference for creating the fill? Why does PS insist on going well outside of the selected pixels for a reference. If I wanted it to reference other areas of the photo I would simply include those areas in or very close to the selection. Isn't the tool suppose to use the selection as a guide? How can you tell the tool to use the selected pixels as a reference?

Content Aware Fill simply does not work!
I would suggest that once you use a tool such as magnetic lasso or marquis square to define an area:
      To replace:
      1. Tones with colour (e.g. a scratch on a car, breadcrumbs on a tabletop)
      a. The eyedropper be used to sample a colour.
      b. Once the colour is defined, then the content aware is used.
      2. Pattern with a pattern (e.g. beach sand to replace dead fish and weeds on a beach)
      a. Use the rubber stamp to define the pattern that will replace the "corrupt" area
       b. Once the pattern is defined, then the content aware is used.
The problem also has to do with Internet reporters or whatever they're called. They all follow each other and make the same comments.
What happens is that all of these NetPorters end up almost verbatum with the same same material. Unfortunately, software netporting is not unique.
The same holds true for stock netporting. Some "expert" in some office off Wallstreet (everyone is moving away from there) writes that Company B23W1X
should make $1.78 a share with net profit for the quarter to be $ 148,000,000. Pretty soon there are 100,000,000 same same articles copied verbatum from
the NET or some other "expert" copied form the first  netporter expert , but "adjusted" the data by 1 cent and for the profit 138,000,000. COmpany B23W1X only makes $ 1.77 a share mand only $ 147,999,999.00.
What happens - all the brokerage houses sell.
Unfortunately, what happens with software is that everyone forks over a bundle of money for the "new features" only to find out they don't always work!
Bottom line: wait a few months till the regular public and users start posting.
The same stampede has occurred with Apple's new operating system Lion OS 10.7. Apple sold 1 million  of this OS in 1 day!
I waited, and started to read the problems people were having. I'm still considering the new OS.

  • CS5 content aware

When I select a region, hit delete, then use the content aware fill, it doesnt give clean results. It picks up material from the region surronding the selection. It's sort of like when you use the clone stamp and the stamp picks up stuff from the surrounding region. How do I get clean fills?

If you want a "clean" fill (as in blank), Content Aware Fill is the last thing you want to use.
If you DO want textures made up, where do you expect it to get them?  From another image?  Perhaps you have a misconception about what Content Aware Fill is supposed to do...
Content Aware Fill is not magic, just good for saving some time - sometimes.  It works better on some images than others.

  • Content aware has gone from the healing tool option bar

Help the content aware box has gone from the healing tool option bar, so has proximity match & create texture. I have tried resetting tool, which didn't work, but don't know what else to try. I am new to photoshop

I think you want the Spot Healing Brush for those options.
    What version of photoshop?

  • Content aware fill at edge of picture

    Hello all,
I've just purchased and installed CS5.  I love the content aware fill feature.  I have an issue with it for which I'm looking for some suggestions...
I have a photo with a rope that goes through that I want to eliminate.  The background is grass and sky.  The content aware healing works great everywhere except when I extend the area that I want to fix all the way to the edge of the photo.  Away from the edges I get what I expect.  But at the edge, I get black or white "residue" overlayed on the cleaned up area.  Same thing happened when I tried to eliminate a foot that shows up at the bottom edge of the frame.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Charlie

    Some other things to try:
Select the image around the edges, making sure you expand the selection into the "good" pixels a little ways, then use the Edit - Fill function rather than using the Spot Healing brush.  This was the way that was shown in one of the CS5.com videos.
Another thing that might help under certain conditions - if you actually have data beyond the edges of the canvas (which can happen if you've been combining data or have used crop with the "Hide" option rather than Delete:  Try dragging the crop tool around the entire image then selecting the Delete button, then cropping.  I'm not sure but I think Content Aware Fill might be sensitive to image data that extends beyond the edges of the canvas.
