Help (Cs6)

When adding a filter to a photo such as; pinch and oil painting, it wont work and comes up with a message 'Could not complete the ------ command because the selected area is empty. Please help me I don't know what to do. thanks

Thanks for helping me and I am not very good at photoshop, and are still learning. I did some photoshop 2 years ago and remember adding filters to the photos. I had the photo open, and created a new layer, and then went to filter and chose oil paint. I don't know whether I have to do something to get a filter working, if so can you please help me. Thankyou, I am pretty dumb on photoshop and need lots of help.

First, go install all the updates for Photoshop CS6.
Then update your video card driver from Intel's website.

Help CS6 won't load?????

Hi I'm trying to run CS6 on a Mac Book Pro all has worked fine until recently, now it won't load! I have tried reinstalling but get the following error messages DW063 and DW050 help.

Things to try.
Create a small blank animation and move an object, then export that out to try importing the test file.
Reset the preferences by holding down the modifier keys while photoshop starts.
Reset the tools, found in the top toolbar at far left side.
Uninstall then reinstall photoshop.

Could not use history brush because the history state lacks a corresponding channel Please HELP CS6

Everytime I try to use my history brush, that error pops up and I have no clue why. If I try to just open a blank document and use the brush it does not give me this error and I can "use" the brush but you cant see anything on the project. Anyways, so when this error happens im trying to do a project and say I place a file(picture) into the project and this is the very first thing I do. I place it, then I size the image down some. I then make a new layer to use the brush for behind the picture and then this is when I get the error. I have no clue what is wrong can someone please help me I'm desperate:(.

The way you've described it, one gets the distinct impression you do not have a clue as to what the history brush does and how to use it.
You need to read up on it. Read the Help files and google for tutorials.
First you need to create an image (with actual pixels in it), edit it as desired, then make a snapshot of the edited image, then target the snapshot with the history brush tool, then go back in the History panel to the step before your edits and selectively paint your edits in with the History Brush.

Help CS6 -- Can't Open CR or Bridge

I just purchased and installed the MAC version of PS6 on OS 10.7.4. Fresh install on a new computer.
I can't open Bridge directly or through PS. I tried resetting the settings but it says I have a write permission problem. The permissions all appear to be R&W so not sure what the issue is.
Camera Raw just freezes when trying to open through PS.
Any ideas?

Seems that the permissions have been messed up. Lets follow the below suggestions and check if that helps.

Help CS6 latest version on 10.7.5 image open to 100% shortcut no longer works

the Apple and 1 shortcut doesnt work anymore, Apple and 0 to fit on screen still does - can anyone help?

Does the View menu still have Cmd+1 next to Actual Pixels or 100%? If not, use Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts to assign Cmd+1.
Also, you may have inadvertently enabled "Use Legacy Channel Shortcuts" which associates Cmd+1 with displaying the red channel. The checkbox for that is in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

Turbulent displace help CS6

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to do an effect with words coming out of a coffee cup and onto the screen. I'm looking for a "tornado-like" look when they leave the cup and for them to end up normal once they reach the background. I have tired using the turbulent displace effect, but I can't seem to control it precisely.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Please help cs6 oil paint problems out of focus blurry looking

why does my picture look blurry after using oil painting. when I'm using the filter and I'm in the preview window it looks fine but once I'm done it doesn't look all painty like. it looks out of focus . my pictures are artwork I have drawn out and they have little effects on them from iPhoto . I'm using Mac OS 10.6.8.

Final Cut Pro X to Premiere CS6 workflow destroys FCP X events

Hello,
I just got a call by a customer who tried to convert and FCP X project via XML to Premiere CS6 for a further AfterEffects workflow. He experienced the following problem, which I can rebuild completely. These are the steps:
1 - Export an FCP X project which relinks to transcoded optimized media to XML
2 - Convert the XML (.fcpxml) with Xto7 app to legacy XML (.xml) format
3 - Open Premiere CS6 and import the XML (.xml)
4 - Close Premiere CS6 and open FCP X and the exported project
FCP X warns immediately that something has been modiefied. This is just an information which I can only accept. All the clips that were optimized are reded out and marked "Modified File". Now do the follwing:
5 - Try to relink the modified media and chose the optimized media file in the transcoded media folder
As soon as you accept the relink FCP X deletes the file in the event library and ALSO in the Original Media folder AND in the Transcoded Media folder and moves both files to the trash. This could be destructiv, if you are working on a SAN storage, like an EditShare system.
But even if you are able to restore the files and move them back in place, there seems to be no chance to relink the files in FCP X to make your project working again. As soon the relink comand is executed the files will be moved to the trash again. If I do not try to relink, the files keep marked red and as Modified Media. If you have a look in the metadata, you will see, that they have been modified by Premiere, which seems to cause the trouble.
Does anyone has a workaround or working handover to AfterEffects? Or does anyone else encounter similar problems with XML or third party apps destroying metadata within FCP X files?
Appreciate all solutions!
Btw: This only affects transcoded media. Every time I worked with original media only, the handover to Premiere works undestructive, but the media was pending in Premiere until the app crashs.

Finally I solved the problem by myself, doing a deeper web research.
Actually it's Premiere CS6 or AfterEffects which adds some metadata to the clips, that causes FCP X to ignore those files and shows them as "Modified media". But - and that's the good thing - you can turn off this behaviour in AfterEffects or Premiere. Here is how:
In AfterEffects
go to Preferences > Media & Disk Cache and uncheck the boxes refering to the XMP metadata
In Premiere
go to Preferences > Media and uncheck the box "Write XMP ID to Files on Import"
Those XMP metadata help CS6 to share media cache files and previews and may improve stability and performance but if you are in a more FCP X based workflow, deactivating this option may prevent from loosing media.
A fast check with the same procedure discribed above went well and everything stays untouched and online in FCP X.

Best workaround for editing long AVCHD clips in CS6?

Hi there, I've recently switched to CS6 and have run into incredibly long render times using native AVCHD clips (13 hours to encode a 30 minute m2v). After reading many posts it seems the issue I am running into is a known bug. So, my question is: is there a good workaround for this issue?
It sounds like this issue is only on long clips. Is it possible to automatically split the .mts files using another program (virtualDub?) prior to importing?
If transcoding from the native format is required (until the fix) what would be the best method using Windows 7 64bit? I have heard Avid's DNxHD is a good lossy codec, but I hate to do this if there is an accepted workflow I should learn instead.

Adobe Illustrator CS6 uninstalling after restart problem?

Hi im having a problem with Adobe Illustrator CS6
I have installed Adobe Illustrator CS6 which was fine no problems.
The problem occurs when i shut the computer down then restart it, the short cut to the programme does not work.
In Start > All Programmes the software has a blank file next to it, meaning its not there.
This is also the same for extension manager CS6, tool kit CS6, help CS6, bridge CS6and adobe reader XI.
I also have on my laptop Dreamweaver CS5.5 could this have an affect on the newer software, as this too comes with extension manager CS5.5, tool kit CS5.5, but the older versions?
My Laptop Spec is:-
Acer Aspire 5742Z
Windows7 Home Premium Service pack 1
Intel(r) Pentium(R) CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
RAM: 4.00GB
64-bit Operating System
I have Norton Internet Security.
This is also playing up and can be only accessed on the toolbar right hand corner of the screen. (i dont think norton is the problem with illustrator)
**In safe mode i am able to see the icons in the Start > All Programmes and able to click the files and the software load***

We need system information. After you run the cleaner tool, there is no need to uninstall anything, which won't work, anyway. that's the whole point of the tool. You simply reinstall the app.

I got a one year subscription to use photoshop. When the download is complete and I open the program, a screen shows up telling me that my trial version has expired. Was I supposed to get an email for a serial Number? Anyone know what’s going on? Please help.

Adobe CS6 (NOT CC) requires activation

Good Afternoon
We are having issues with Adobe Creative suite keeping losing the licence key. It works if you re-enter the key but the problem comes back.
We have one user who has so many issues we wiped and reloaded her laptop and still have the problem, We are having staff going on trips and not being able to use this software as we (the IT department) don't give out serial numbers for software but I am now being asked for these frequently.
Does anyone have any ideas or can help? If adobe are monitoring then this needs sorting.

PS CS6 standard perpetual license has been converted to a CC PS CS6 Extended license

I run PS CC alongside PS CS6 standard with a perpetual license. A recent update, and I'm not sure which, has converted my PS CS6 standard install into the Extended CS6 version. Can anyone tell me if this is a known bug? How should I go about resolving this? Should I simply deactivate Extended and uninstall, then reinstall CS6 standard? I don't think this should have happened in the first place, so I'm a little concerned about spending a bunch of time resolving this only to have it happen again.

CS6 should not remain a perpetual version as you are already having CC membership for Ps CC activated.
This is expected behavior.
PS 13.1.2 is a subscription patch(for Creative Cloud users) not for perpetual, this would not get applied over 13.0.1.x(update for perpetual). As you have 13.0.1.x already applied then you need to re-install Ps CS6 to get Ps 13.1.2.

CS6 Screen mode options

Hey,
I'm trying to find an option (if there is one) to change the Standard Screen Mode background to transparent like in Photoshop CS5 and earlier.
I do like working in full screen mode with a dark grey background but miss being able to flick back to transparent to see all my files and the desktop.
Can anyone help? I'm using a Mac if that helps.

CS6 opens now by default in "Application Frame". You can go Windows>Application Frame and uncheck to go back to previous. You can still use the F key to cycle through the three Screen Mode views.
