Help!!! Curve 8520

Hi everyone!
Hoping someone can help!
I updated my BB today for the first time since i've had it, been very slack but i'm currently a busy mummy to a beautiful baby girl! Anyway, my problem!!!  I updated the software and nothing looks the same anymore, its taken me all day to reset everything and still its not right.  I have a downloaded theme on and the only part that works is the main screen, applications went missing and then I couldnt download fromt he actual phone so had to come on the net and do it  my call logs have changed, as well as my texting and my key lock to the mute button  i much prefered my old set up apart from the new BB messagener! Oh and i cant check in on my 8520, yet i know a couple of other people who have the same phone that can
Is there anyway i can go back to the old verison or is everything thats gone wrong normal?  im a bit new to the whole BB thing!
Thanks for any replies in advance!

Hello,
Not knowing the OS level you came from and updated to, it's impossible to tell you if this is normal. Some of what you said gives hints, though...the key lock change in particular. That tells me that you updated to a 5.0 OS level where that function was changed. And, if you've as you say been "slack", then it is possible that you've come up to 5.0 from something quite older. If so, then yes...things changed quite a bit from where you were to where you are, so I'd surmise that things are close to normal.
As for your theme -- you must be sure that your theme is compatible with the OS level you are running. If not, then things can go quite awry.
If you really want to fall back, then you can use this procedure to install (upgrade, downgrade, reload) any OS level onto your BB as long as the OS package is for the exact same model number:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
You can even use OS packages from other than your BBs original carrier by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML.
For the most part, though...I'd advise giving yourself time to get used to this OS level. Like all things, the challenge of change isn't in what one is changing TO, but rather the fact of changing FROM.
Good luck!

  • Curve 8520 won't turn on all the way, please help!

I have a blackberry curve 8520, i bought it last month sometime.
I woke up yesterday morning and the balckberry was off, and would not switch on after i pushed down the ON button. So I charged it for a while, and still, it wouldnt switch on. Then, i took it off charge, took out the battery put the battery back in and it rebooted. The loading bar went right to the end, and the logo of my service provider appeared. And that's when it stopped loading. All that will show is the logo, it wont turn off, unless i take the battery out again.
I had downloaded an app the night before it stopped working off appworld, could that have affected it? I tried to link it to my computer, but it wont let me remove or add applications.
I did take out the battery for hours, and the SD card. It still wiil only turn on until my service provider's logo.
PLEASE HELP! Any advice would be helpful.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • What is wrong with my Curve 8520? Please help!

I am having problems with my BB Curve 8520. v5.0.0.592
First the phone started freezing all the time and I had to do a battery pull to unfreeze it, and everytime after it restarted it got the Uncaught Exception: java.lang.error.
I uninstalled my BBM V6.1beta and my appworld 3 beta and installed the lastest official releases for them but it didn't fix the problem.
I then deleted all the apps that I installed recently and after installing Photo Editor Ultimate the java error stopped.
Right now the freezing is gone but now when I download pictures or songs, they don't show up anywhere on the phone. Not in the gallery and not in the file explorer. They only show up after I reboot my phone. Also when right now when I press the menue button, the menu at the left doesn't show, it only appears after I scrolled over every item in the menu, so basically it was invisible until I went up and down on the trackpad.
    What can be the problem?

    Hi MarcC8520,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Try backing up your device via the BlackBerry Desktop Software and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT Make sure to test for the issue before restoring any data from your backup file.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help required with upgrading to OS5 on curve 8520

    Hello everyone,
I'm using an unlocked version of the bb curve 8520 and want to upgrade my bb device os to v5.0. (current version- 4.6.1)
I tried using the application loader on the bb website (NA & India both) but it just tells me that my OS is updated and that i will be notified if there are any updates available. I would be really grateful if someone could help me update my os.
    Solved!

    Hello,
Your warranty is not endangered. You are free to use any carriers OS package on your BB. Your carrier may, however, refuse to provide you with support (including Warranty evaluation/service) until you fall back to their supported device OS level. But your warranty per se is not endangered.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 8520 browser problems - please help!

I've had my Curve 8520 for three weeks and it was working like a dream. However, yesterday evening, the browser application suddenly stopped working. I know it's not an issue with my wi-fi, as my laptop is still working fine. When I try to load the browser and visit a website, it flashes up "requesting..." as normal, and then goes to "loading" with a white screen, but refuses to load the web page. What's wrong with it? I've tried changing options in the browser configuration, but nothing works. Please help me!

With any glitch on a BlackBerry, first off do a battery pull reboot,
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

Do you have a media card installed? If so, remove the battery while the phone is powered on, remove the media card (leave it out), then reinsert the battery and let the phone fully reboot. See if that makes a difference or not.

Hi gom3a and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
The BlackBerry® smartphone will always make a connection with the data network in order to ensure you are always receiving email and messages when then are sent to you.
The BlackBerry® data services do not require you to login and most applications only require you to provide your login information once, then its saved so you don't have to login over and over again.
    Thanks.

I recently purchased a new Blackberry Curve 8520, and it was working great, until a couple of days ago, when it starting not working.
Whenever I'd press the a* button to lock it like you're supposed to, it wouldn't lock.
