Help! Dates cause corruption of files!

I am getting a lot of trouble with corruption in HTML files
which is something to do with dates.
Here is an example of corrupted source code:
Although the areas under solar collectors are shaded, they
still receive quite a lot of light, quite sufficient for growing
plants and without the damaging effect of direct tropica<!--
#BeginDate format:IS1 -->2007-10-26<!-- #EndDate -->rwise
be useless for any kind of cultivation could become very
productive.
This is typical: the code <!-- #BeginDate format:IS1
-->2007-10-26<!-- #EndDate --> has been put into the
middle of some text and has wiped out part of the text. It is
entirely unclear to me why this should be happening. But it happens
a lot and is proving to be a major headache.
The only place that I use that date code is in the footer of
a template that is used for most pages. Normally it means that the
date when each page was last updated can be seen and normally this
works correctly. But the same code is also inserted randomly into
text in pages throughout my website.
Can anyone help, please?! This is becoming a major problem.
With thanks,
Gerry

Well, it's really hard to tell if it's a physical GPU problem without thoroughly testing it.
First, did this happen shortly after an update? Could it be a software problem?
Maybe even try swapping from nvidia to nouveau just to see if it's the problem.
Obviously, make a backup so you can swap back later with ease.
I'm going to just guess and say you don't have any spare GPU's or even in integrated GPU to use?
If you do, WONDERFUL! Just pull out the possible glitchy one (replacing with the spare) and go about your business to see if the problem persists.
The next best thing to do is run some GPU benchmark tools to see just what happens under load.
I did a quick search for Linux and GPU Benchmark, found https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/.
It's a commercial application with a (full featured but up-selling) free version available for Linux.
I have zero experience with the tools but they seem serious about them (there are 4).
Best of all, the company seem to have a solid business model so I wouldn't mind trying it.
If through all this it persists, maybe try (if you have ~3GB of memory or more) a live CD XOrg test.
Grab the latest image and setup in the live environment XOrg to see if it could be something in your configs/install causing the problem.
You said you thought it might be memory. Try MemTest86 (Offered on the Arch Live CD).
Let us know how all this pans out and we'll see what we can do to help with what the results show.

  • I followed your help directions on "Corrupt extension files" under "Unable to install add-ons", foolishly deleting the files you told me to. Now firefox won't open. I tried reinstalling firefox but it still won't open. Now what do I do?

    I was trying to install the SEOQuake add on. After clicking install Firefox would hang up saying the script had timed out and asking if I want to stop it or continue. Didn't matter which option I chose nothing would happen. The only way to stop it was to close Firefox and restart. Tried restarting the computer. Still wouldn't install. Tried installing the Outwit add on and got the same error leading me to conclude it was a problem with Firefox, not the add on. I found this help page <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons?s=addons+won't+install&as=s> and did everything it told me to. Finally at the end I got to "Corrupt extension files". I foolishly deleted the files you told me to and now Firefox won't even start! I tried reinstalling Firefox and it still won't start. Tried restarting the computer. I have no idea how to get back to where I was let alone install the add ons I wanted to install. Please help. At this point I'd just be happy to be able to get Firefox working.

    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
    See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br />

  • PSE-9 trial caused Corrupt Contour file in PSE-6, licensed version

    I posted this question a couple of weeks ago as part of a reply to jon99, but never received a response.
    It is the last remnant of several issues after installing/uninstalling PSE-9 Trial version, which said my PSE-6 license was no longer valid and would not let me run the app.
    After running the validation tool and getting my license validation back for my PSE 6, I now get a "contour file is corrupt or damaged" error, only on startup of PSE-6.
    It does not appear to affect the workings of the application, but I would like to clean it up.
    If anyone know what the 'contour file' is, and how to fix it,  I would appreciate the help.
    Thanks in advance.
    D

    You are a life saver Jon~
    First option (License Retore) did the trick, though not totally clean.
    The app started after giving me a black screen. During the startup I got an error window saying "The contour file is corrupt", but it continued to load.
    After loading, I put it through its paces and it seems to be working fine, although I would like to resolve the 'contour file' issue, if you can help with that?
    I guess I still wonder why Adobe Support kept me on the phone for 20 minutes (it took that long to translate), telling me there is no help, when they could have given me the same info that you did!  'Curiouser, and curiouser...'
    Thanks again for the prompt and correct help. Now I can finish my project!

  • HELP! InDesign corrupting old files ERROR CODE 5

    I have had Indesign for over a year and used with no problems until about a month ago. I created a flyer, saved and closed it and when i went to reopen it i got the error message saying: the file [filename].indd is damaged and cannot be recovered (Error code 5). I was frustrated because i had to redo it, but what is even more frustrating is that it seems like this is happening to EVERY file i open and close (old or new) which means I have lost a lot of large files (books in fact) because of some problem with indesign. I desperately need help to fix this. I work on w windows 8 computer using indesign cs6.

    Would the font have to be used in the document that was opened? Do you know how i find a corrupt font?

  • Help with a corrupt pages file!!

    I spent a huge amount of time on this file and today when I tried to open it, it was corrupt!!
    This isn't the first time this has happened to me.  Is saved two copies and both are corrupt.
    If anyone wants to take a look at it here's a link https://dl.dropbox.com/u/96816/Pics2Share/Speech%20copy.pages
    Any help would be greatly apprecatied!
    Thanks

    It definitely seems corrupted, I can't get into it at all. There doesn't even seem to be a coverflow version of it.
    It also seems very small for something you say you have spent a lot of time on.
    You will need to describe what you did, where you saved it to, what version of Pages you are running, whether you have got this from MsWord or exported it etc and as much information as possible to determine what went wrong.

  • Try to open a possible corrupted PPT file

    Does Microsoft have any tool to repair a corrupted PPT file?  Do I have to use the 3rd party recover tool to fix the problem?
    I tried to insert a slide from PPT file but did not find that option available when I attempted to open the corrupted PPT file.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Which Office version did you use?  Is it a password-protected file? Was the file sent to you as an e-mail attachment?
    If your file is truly corrupt, there are a number of things you can try to recover it.
    Use Slides from Files on the Insert menu.
    Locate a TMP file.
    Open the presentation in Microsoft Office Word.
    Move the file to a different place.
    Open the file in a different way.
    Use Safe Mode.
    Use Damaged Presentations Troubleshooters.
    Try a third-party recovery tool.

  • Error -32810 occurred at The FieldPoint server initialization failed. Possible causes: 1. Missing or corrupt configuration file; 2. Failed to create callbacks. : FP Open.vi

    I have two cFP-2120 RT controller. They both have NI-Serial RT2.5.6, DataSocket for LV RT4.2, NI-VISA 3.6, FP Drivers 5.1.0, FP VI Manager 3.1.0 LV RT 7.1.1 installed. But one same vi can run on one controller but not another.
    the error message got when it runs on another controller is "Error -32810 occurred at  The FieldPoint server initialization failed. Possible causes: 1. Missing or corrupt configuration file; 2. Failed to create callbacks. : FP Open.vi"
    I wonder by what it is caused?
    Thanks

    Hi Matthew,
    As mentioned previously, this KnowledgeBase article may be of some help. Also, if your code is being run on an embedded controller and then a network controller (not embedded), you will need to run the program differently. On the embedded controller, you should deploy your VI in a Project Explorer or programmatically (as described here.) However, you do not need to deploy the program to a network controller, but simply run the VI.
    I would also suggest creating a new .IAK file. Do you still see the same error? Also, double-check that the software installed on the controller matches the software installed on the host PC. If you have any file paths associated with one FieldPoint controller, ensure that you are changing them to match the second controller.
    Please keep us posted on your troubleshooting steps. Have a great day!

  • Extract data from Flat file CSV to SQL Server 2008 using SSIS 2008 (Data gets corrupted when extraction)

    Hi,
    I am trying to extract data from multiple CSV files to SQL into a single table. The data type of all the columns in SQL table is nvarchar(MAX).  I am able to extract the data from the flat files but some of the data(on extraction) is
    corrupt including question marks(?) and other invalid special characters. Also I tried selecting the UTF-8, 65001(Unicode) format but the problem still persists. Also I tried using data converter but no use.
    I checked with the data in the flat file but there is no data with question mark(?) or any other special characters.
    The separator in the flat file is Comma(,)
    Please help.
    Thanks in advace.

    The source system and application determines the code page and encoding. Is it Windows, Unix, Mainframe or some other type?
    Unicode files sometimes begin with a byte order mark (2 bytes) to indicate little or big endian.  If you open the file in notepad and then select save as, the encoding in the dialog will show the encoding notepad detected based on the BOM.  If
    that is ANSI instead of Unicode or UTF-8, you will need to know the code page the source system used when the file was created.

  • Streaming large amounts of data of socket causes corruption?

    I'm wrinting an app to transfer large amounts of data via a simple client/server architecture between two machines.
    Problem: If I send the data too 'fast', the data arrives corrupted:
    - Calls to read() returns wrong data (wrong 'crc')
    - Subsequent calls to read() do not return -1 but allow me to read e.g. another 60 or 80 KBytes.
    - available() returns always '0'; but I'll get rid of that method anyway (as recommended in other forum entries).
    The behaviour is somewhat difficult to repeat, but it fails for me reliably when transferring the data between two separate machines and when setting the number of packets (Sender.TM) to 1000 or larger.
    Workaround: Reduce number of packages send to e.g. 1; or intruduce the 'sleep' on the Sender side. Another workaround: Changing alone to java.nio.* did not help, but when I got rid of the Streams and used solely ByteBuffers, the problem disappeared. Unfortunately the Streams are required by other parts of my application.
    I'm running the code on two dual-CPU machines connected via
    Below are the code of the Sender and the Listener. Please excuse the style as this is only to demonstrate the problem.

            System.out.println(" "+SenderBug.TM+" objects ingested.");
            in.close();
    }

    Here is your trouble:
    in.read(ba);read(byte[]) does not read N bytes, it reads up to N bytes. If one byte has arrived then it reads and returns that one byte. You always need to check the return value of read(byte[]) to see how much you got (also check for EOF). TCP chops up the written data to whatever packets it feels like and that makes read(byte[]) pretty random.
    You can use DataInputStream which has a readFully() method; it loops calling read() until it gets the full buffer's worth. Or you can write a little static utility readFully() like so:
        // Returns false if hits EOF immediately. Otherwise reads the full buffer's
        // worth. If encounters EOF in mid-packet throws an IOException.
        public static boolean readFully(InputStream in, byte buf[])
            throws IOException
            return readFully(in, buf, 0, buf.length);
        public static boolean readFully(InputStream in, byte buf[], int pos, int len)
            throws IOException
            int got_total = 0;
            while (got_total < len) {
                int got = in.read(buf, pos + got_total, len - got_total);
                if (got == -1) {
                    if (got_total == 0)
                        return false;
                    throw new EOFException("readFully: end of file; expected " +
                                           len + " bytes, got only " + got_total);
                got_total += got;
            return true;
        }

  • "Open With"- "Change All" corrupts your file (Resource forks, extended attributes, creation date)

    I finally know why some of my files get corrupted.
    If you use the following method to assign one kind of file to always open with the same application;
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8387.html
    (File -> Get Info -> Open With -> Change All)
    an extended attribute will be added to your file.
    You can examine that by typing "ls -l" in Terminal. If you see an @-sign after permissions than you have an extended attribute in that file.
    To see what it contains, type "xattr -l filname.jpg" in Terminal.
    Besides that is adds an extended attribute (which can be deleted with the "xattr --help" command) the modification date of the selected file will be changed.
    I think this is irritating because I wan't to keep my master photos with the same modification date as creation date.
    What else does it effect besides the modification date and to add extended attributes? Does my metadata get intact?
    (If you further want to make a backup copy on for example a FAT32 filesystem than your got a new problem. FAT32 doesn't support resource forks, so besides filename.jpg you will have an additional ._filename.jpg of 4kb)

    Doesn't sound like there is any corruption going on to me. It may change the date modified, but that should be expected since you modified the file.

  • Corrupt image files cause upgraded iPhoto to crash

    I have been spending some time trying to find and remove corrupt image files from my iPhoto library. These are not just scrambled images when viewed they crash any and every program you view them with. Including Finder. I accidentally put one on my desktop and finder went into a auto restart cycle I could not stop. until I removed the file with pathfinder. I have found about 30 of these so far (my library is about 25,000) Many of these are in the data file but some are not. They are of all types (jpg,tiff,psd) Thorsten Lemke, (Lemke Software) tells me it is a quicktime issue.
    Here is a link to one of these files. Warning it will crash safari if you try o view it.
    http://vincentdavis.net/try/try.jpg
    Here are my questions.
    1. is there some way to fix these
    2. is there some efficient way to find and remove/fix them?
    3. how did this happen? I had no problem before update (that I knew of)
    Thanks
    Vincent

    I did try the link, and as you said - it crashed Safari. However, I have google searched and also searched the Apple Support sites for 'fix corrupt images' with no luck. I'm sorry but I think the only way of knowing is to try and open each of them.
    However, I did read on Macworld's site once that sometimes photoshop or other image editing programs can open the corrupt files.
    Sorry for not being much help here - I hoped that my first suggestion would have done the trick.

    when I submitted my iPhoto book to Apple, an error caused the  image file to be unreadable or unprintable,why can anyone help me please:)
    what I did with my system was following:
    1. Update your software.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Make sure all applications are closed.
    4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
    5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
    PDF.
    6. Resubmit your order.
    and still my PDF ibook file looked like my photos were scratched across the photos. Please help:)
    Thank you
    CJ

    Yes me too!!
    I thought that I had done someting wrong.  The first time it was my first attempt so I did not preview the photobok (did not know this trick).  When I did the cover photos were completely ruined with lines and code.
    The second time I changed everything and even made a different sized book - thinking my photo files were too big.  I dutifully previewed before buying the book and everything was fine.  Then a few days later got the usual e-mail message from Apple. When I previewed the project again ALL of the photos were corrupted.
    What to do - I need to get the photobook to friends to celebrate their engagement!
    If I saved the pdf then submitted this would that work??
    Any thoughts - I am working on a large project and do not want to go any further if all the work will be ruined on buying the book.

    The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
    Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
    1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
    2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
    3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
    Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
    Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

  • My Vista system crashed due to a corrupted windows file. When I reformatted C:/ & reloaded firefox & tbird, my bookmarks were gone. I have an image of the drive , but I don't know how to recover them and get the data back where I can access it.

    Vista system crashed due to a corrupted system file. The C drive was reformatted, and windows reloaded, along with the rest of my programs.
    Before the drive was reformatted, an image was made of it on a USB drive to save all the data. Now I need to know how to get the Bookmarks back for Firefox, and the Address Book back for Thunderbird.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick response. It worked very well, for both Firefox and Tbird.
    One hitch, until I remembered: those are all hidden files, in hidden folders. I had a devil of a time finding the "roaming" folder, until I found out how to unhide everything. In years past, I used DOS for that kind of thing. Explorer is much less user-friendly. Now that I know how to do it, it's simple.
    Thanks again for the guidance
