Help - dead iPod mini!

Okay - it worked perfectly fine yesterday, let it charge last night via usb cable to the G5 and now today when I went to play some tunes, dead. Nothing at all. Reset doesn't work, tried the plug the USB into the front jack on the computer, nothing. Tried the power adapter, nothing. NOTHING appears on the screen to show me that it's alive at all. When plugged into the computer the computer doesn't recognize it either.
help!

Hi Kellie,
Have you tried resetting it WHILE it's connected to your power adaptor?

  • Help with iPod mini (Battery issues)

I am an owner of an iPod mini (1st generation) that I bought in February from Amazon. The mini has constant battery issues that have led me to suspect a bad battery within.
For instance; I leave my mini in it's charging cable overnight, and it reports "charged" in the morning. I leave it for the rest of the day in my coat's poket but during my walk home from the bus stop, I find that the mini's battery is completely DISCHARGED and doesn't work at all. I'm sick and tired of having my battery last only a minute before it completely dies on me while walking home.
Can anyone lead me to a source of help? I NEED to get this problem fixed as I don't want to listen yo all my music while having to be hooked up to a cable.
iPod Mini (1st generation)   Windows XP   Battery discharged in a minute.

    Edited by an Apple Host
Apple will replace your battery (if its within one year of purchase, no receipt needed, just the SERIAL # on the back of your mini), and you can get repair for FREE, just $32 for shipping and handling, OR you can, if an Apple store is near your home or in your town, take it to them, and get a REPLACEMENT mini on the spot, for FREEEEE!!!
Try those methods, but i HIGHLY suggest you take it to an Apple store first and see their take on the issue!!!

  • HELP ME- ipod mini wont play songs!

i have rescently moved houses and had to load my ipod mini on to a new computer and new i tunes list. I re loaded all my music on to the new list and transfered my ipod to factory settings to wipe all my old music. But when i went transfer all of my music to my ipod everything went bad!
my ipod says it has the songs on it but when i go to play them it plays none of them and just skips them all! Also when my ipod is connected to itunes i cant play the songs that are said to be in my ipod, but all the songs in my library play perfectly! (which are the same as the ones in my ipod)
please help me im going crazy!!!

    Hello Anna,
Have you any tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store? Did you authorise the new computer: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation you could also have a look here: Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
One last thing, when your iPod is connected to iTunes and you try to play it through the computer do you get Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen? This would mean that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. • Help with Ipod mini

I'm having a problem with my mini. It turns it self on, and then right back off constantly, until the batteries run out. when i hook it up to the computer, it recharges, and then goes back to the on/off cycle. the computer won't recognize it. All i see is the apple logo clicking on then off then on etc...
I've tried resetting it, but it just goes back to the on/off cycle.
    Please help!

iPod Doesn’t Appear on OS X Desktop or in iTunes
    I hope this helps!
The other option is to just kinda let it run itself out of battery, then see how it's doing.

  • Dead iPod mini -- now what?

Hi, I have a 6GB iPod mini that suddenly went completely dead. Absolutely no signs of life on its LCD panel, even when plugged into a USB jack or a charger/speaker device. When I turned it on a few days ago I saw the "low battery" icon flash briefly, but it went dead immediately after that and has stayed dead. I am wondering if this means the battery has gone completely dead -- but if so, shouldn't it power up when plugged into an external power source? Or would a dead battery prevent even that from happening? How can I find out for sure what is wrong with it? I've seen battery replacement kits for very little money so I wouldn't mind giving that a try, but obviously if it is going to be much more expensive then I suppose I'd be better off getting a new iPod (though the mini meets all my needs so I'd rather not have to do that!)
    Thanks,
    Samizdat

    Hi,
Have you connected it to your computer? If not, connect it, then try resetting the mini. Hold down the Menu and Select (Center) buttons for 6 seconds, or until you get an Apple logo on the screen. See if that works. If not, post back.
Even if the battery is dead, the iPod should be recognized on your computer. Sometimes plugging it into an external power source doesn't do the trick.

  • Totally dead iPod Mini

    Hi all;
I just wanted to transfer some newly purchased music to my iPod Mini only to discover my PowerMac didn't recognize it at all on Firewire.
Since I also have a USB cable for my iPod, I tried that also. Nothing.
I also attempted to connect it to my IBM laptop. Also nothing. I was thinking it would complain about the format but nothing.
I then went to the tutorials and tried to do a reset. Nothing.
I then tried to do a restore but since the iPod isn't being recognized by the computer, once more nothing.
    What do I do now?
    Allan

    Hi all;
    Well I that was embarrassing.
I took my nonfunctional iPod to the Apple store. The guy at the genus bar fiddled with it for a moment and it was working again. He moved down to the end of the bar where we could get closer together and he asked me to reset it. I did and it didn't work. He replied there is no need to bend the iPod.
He then when on to explain that I was applying way to much force plus I hit the menu button and then the select button. he said that was also wrong. He gave me the iPod back and said very gently press on the selection button until I felt a click. Once I felt the click then he told me to very gentle press the menu button. he said that I should wait six second. Low and behold it reset.
He went on to say that something had happened to my iPod which required a reset. Because of the amount of force I was applying and the wrong order, nothing was happening.
He then when on to tell me to recharge the battery as soon as possible because in the state it was in the charge on the battery is usually drained.
He said I was lucky that the amount of force I was applying didn't damage the iPod.
Oh well this isn't the first time I have been told that I use too much force.

  • HELP!  ipod mini dead?  won't reset or power off...help please!

My ipod is stuck on a song..it looks like it is paused. I tried to toggle the switch about 50 and reset about 50 times but the light stays on and the lines under the name of song and title are like this_________________ ___________
    -3 0:16
Any ideas? It won't show up on the desktop with usb or firewire and I've restarted several times....
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks-Diane

In some cases, the iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained before it can be reset so try these steps.
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or the computer and reset it.

  • Dead iPOD mini (1st gen.)

Okay, so I read the posts before me to see if anyone had the same problem I have but no one seems to. When I turn on my iPOD, the apple logo stays there for about 10 seconds and then switches to another screen. The screen has a picture of an iPOD with two x's for eyes on the iPOD screen (denoting that it's dead) with a frown. (That would be so funny if it wasn't for the situation). At the bottom it has www.apple.com/support/ipod. So I came here. What do I do? Please help someone!!!
P.S., I already tried the hold bottom thingy and pressing the menu and select button. Nothing is working.

    wait...i have another question
okay so now im reformatting it
iTunes prompts me to plug it into a external power, and i did that
but when i plug it back into the computer,
it repeats the whole cycle again...
can anyone tell me how i can fix this problem?

  • Need help using ipod mini for disc space

When I try to click the box to use my mini as disc space the box is grayed out. Can't be clicked. I am using the gold mini. Is the ipod too old to be used as disc space. why is the box grayed out. I have all the allowances to do everything. Can anyone help? Thanks, oldmankent.
    G5

The usual reason for the enable disk use box to be "greyed out" and not selectable is because the iPod is set to manually transfer songs.
If this is the case, then disk use is automatically enabled. With manual transfer disk use is the default setting and cannot be changed.

  • Please Help - Dead iPod!

    Hi
Ive had my 4th Gen Click Wheel 20GB iPod for over two years now and it has recently started playing up badly. Basically i charge it up fully...listen to it before I go to bed (with sleep timer on 90 Minutes). Then when I turn it on the next day its completely dead and needs charging again.
Could this be due to how long i've had it or would any updates have effected its performance. I have the most recent iTunes and iPod updater software btw.
    Any help appreciated. Cheers!

It could be just a battery issue - probably the time to have a replacement of battery. But you need to confirm it with your iPod - see how long does it play (not in sleep mode)

  • Dead iPod Mini?

I plugged in my Mini to charge it today after not having used it for a week and things do not look good!
    It will not:
    -turn on
-respond to toggling the hold switch
    -be recognized by the computer/iTunes
-charge (nothing at ALL comes up on screen, and I've used both an AC adapter and a computer, and have tried to charge it for over a half hour)
    -reset
And it just went out of warranty yesterday.
Is there anything I can do, other than cry?

    Hello,
Try running down your battery, then re-charging it again; leave it on the stand for about 24 hours.
I restoring your iPod would probably be the thing to do now...
Restoring your iPod to Factory Settings
You won't be able to restore your iPod now, though, because your iPod won't be recognized by the iPod Updater. Try these steps:
Eject your iPod from computer (for now).
    Close Updater and iTunes programs.
    Restart the computer.
Put your iPod into disk mode.
Connect your iPod to your computer again.
See if your Updater works for your iPod.
If a post is helpful or solves your issue, please mark it that way, this makes it clearer to other users what solved your issue, and encourages others to help each other on here. Thank You!

  • Please help me, Ipod mini is not charging nor recognizing

I connected my mini with my PC,but nothing happened, not charging nor any recognition. Then, all hard working coming....
First of all,i checked my PC has USB2.0 port,(Asus P4P800 deluxe),for make sure about that,i opened device manager to find i have "standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller" present.well then,it seems not my PC's problem.
Secondly, i tried to reset my mini, surely, that's no any response since it's never been charged. For additional carefulness,i waited for above 30 mins as guide book says it may need time to charge the battery at the first time. Actually, i connected it with my PC for 2 hours.. nothing's happened.. really annoying.
Finally,i tired to update itunes to a new version, but no miracle happens, the mini even does show on my resource list....i am revolting now..
I got this one for a little fun, but all it's given are troubles...I spent 2 hours on getting it started already.Thank godness if anyone can help me. Lots of appreciation.

Yeah.....after 4 hours connecting with my PC,it's charging now.......just started 5 mins ago. I am faint, why just told me need to wait a few hours, make me confused and annoyed.
hope not too many problems later.

  • HELP! iPod mini can't turn on!

I have tried ways to turn my mini on but it still cant be turned on. its's not even under hold. what do I do?

Yea I just went through the same problem - let it sit for a couple days w/o charging it, then try again to charge it from whatever source you have for charging. I know this may sound strange but it has worked for me after I completely depleted the battery. Yea I tried to reset thing 2 but how do you that when it won't even turn on??? If that don't work try it on another computer with a different cable than yours if possible - you know try to eliminate all the possibilities.
