Help debugging POF exception

Hi,
We're just coming to the end of a rather big project and have just replaced some legacy APIs used by the firm's website with APIs that talk to Coherence.
We've had live traffic hitting these services for a few days now, and have successfully processed millions of requests (yay!)
As this has just gone live, I've been keeping a keen eye on server logs and noticed that I had an exception in my Proxy node logs to do with Pof Serialisation.
I can make an API call that will cause this exception on our live servers, but it does not happen on our test system (same versions of code, different data :( )
I was wondering if anyone had any success with debugging exception messages like this...

The only way I think I can get to the bottom of this is by debugging some storage and proxy nodes locally and then loading them with the current set of live data (which is a pain) - then I will set exception breakpoints and see if anything on the stack gives me a clue as to what is going wrong :(
I have looked through the code and cannot see any place where I could be causing a NPException... (I might have missed something - but the code isn't really that complicated)
Does anyone have any tips for debugging this sort of thing (our POF serialisers have been in production for over a year now without any problem like this)?
It would be nice if Coherence logged the POF type number of the thing it was trying to serialise / deseralise when this exception occurs...
Thanks in advance for any advice!
-Bret

Think I got to the bottom of it (had to debug against live data)
Would be nice if the error message was more helpful...

    I went away for a week. Everything fine. Since I got back (May 6 2010) when I click on any Google search result a pop-up box appears (sometimes when the search results page first appears before clicking anything) with this message:
    "Debug Error:Exception... "Node was not found" code: "8" nsresult: "0x80530008 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_FOUND_ERR)" location: "chrome://ffamazonhot/content/lib/Extension.debug.js Line: 366""
    Continual clicking (100+ clicks!) of the OK button eventually clears the dialogue but any subsequent search starts the whole process again. I also not that the style of the Google results p[age has changed.
    I have to use a different browser for Google searches. IE7-OK Opera 9.64 - OK Chrome - OK (naturally)
    I have cleared Cache, History, Cookies etc. I have tried reinstalling FF. I have disabled JavaScript in he browser. All no good.
    I notice in the forums that others are having this problem in the same time range - i.e it has just started happening. I have tired contacting Google with the usual lack of success!

  • Help Debugging method

    Hi:
    Can someone help me debug and correct following program?
    The error message I receive is Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException:
    String index out of range: 1
    at java.lang.String.charAt(String.java, Compiled Code)
    at RemoveDuplicates.key(RemoveDuplicates.java, Compiled Code)
    at RemoveDuplicates.main(RemoveDuplicates.java:12)
    The code is as follows:
    class RemoveDuplicates
    public static void main(String args[])
    String keyword = args[0];
    System.out.println(key(keyword));
    public static String key(String keyword)
    {String temp = "";
       for(int i = keyword.length()-1; i > -1 ; i--)
       if(i == keyword.indexOf(keyword.charAt(i)))
        temp = keyword.charAt(i)+ temp;
        keyword = temp;
    return keyword;
    If I change the code as follows it will run without error but I need to put the code in a method as part of a larger program.
    class RemoveDuplicates
    public static void main(String args[])
    String temp = "";
    String keyword = args[0];
    for(int i = keyword.length()-1; i > -1 ; i--)

    temp = keyword.charAt(i)+temp;
    keyword = temp;
    System.out.println(keyword);

A: Help Debugging method

Here's your method corrected - albeit with some renamed variables, a variable addition and some reformatting...
  public static String removeDuplicates(String s)
    String temp = "";
    for(int i = s.length()-1; i >= 0 ; i--)
      char c = s.charAt(i);
      if(i == s.indexOf(c))
        temp = c + temp;
    return temp;
  }The only functional change is the removal of the line in the if statement body of "s = temp"... This would cause the StringIndexOutOfBounds and would also lose the as yet unprocessed characters.
Here also is a version which trades off a higher memory usage to avoid creating a lot of Strings and rescanning the original String...
  public static String removeDuplicates(String s)
    boolean[] foundChars = new boolean[Character.MAX_VALUE+1];
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(s.length());
    for(int i = 0, j = s.length(); i < j; i++)
      char c = s.charAt(i);
      if(!foundChars[c])
        foundChars[c] = true;
        sb.append(c);
    return sb.toString();
  }Hopefully these both work...

  • DEBUG SMTP: exception reading response

    Hello,
    I am coding a background process to send e-mails. It uses Threads so each Thread opens a connection with a local smtp server and send a configured amount of e-mails.
    It goes well when there aren't too many Threads, but in opposite to that i receive the following message :
    DEBUG SMTP: useEhlo true, useAuth false
    DEBUG SMTP: starting protocol to host "localhost", port 25
    DEBUG SMTP: exception reading response: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
    MessagingException - Exception reading response; nested exception is: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
    Considering that it is happening initially because the smtp server got overload because the amount of connections i did the following:
    Transport t = mailSession.getTransport("smtp");
    while(t.isConnected() != true) {
         try {
              t.connect();
         } catch (MessagingException me){
              try {
                   Thread.sleep(rand.nextInt(n));
              } catch (InterruptedException ie){
                   Log.info("Thread Name/ID: " + jobObj.getName() + " / " + jobObj.getId() + " - " + "Exception : InterruptedException - " + ie.getMessage());
              Log.info("Connect: Thread Name/ID: " + jobObj.getName() + " / " + jobObj.getId() + " - " + "Exception : MessagingException - " + me.getMessage());
    Then i do send the respective e-mails for each Thread using :
    t.sendMessage();
    and i do close the connection after all the e-mails were sent with
    t.close();
    This is just a small snippet of the code, but represents the loop i am trying to create to solve my problem, which is smtp connections overload. So when the connection is not really established i put the Thread to sleep and then it tries again latter until the success of the connection. It seems to work for some Threads but others keep returning the same error and don't work well.
    Can anyone help me on this ?
    Thx in advance

  • Help debugging an Apache module compile

    Has anyone every had any experience adding in modules to apache that use openssl?
    We have had great luck installing this module in particular "mod_cosign" with Apache 1.3 standalone but we are having a heck of a time compiling it with OHS.
    The module we are using is from:
    http://webapps.itcs.umich.edu/cosign/index.php/Cosign_Wiki:Test_install_HOWTO#Compilation_and_Installation
    We are compiling this with openssl-0.9.7e
    And here is the error we get when we try to start apache

    Syntax error on line 245 of .../Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf:

    I'm not sure what it is truly missing and why the "RAND_bytes" is missing. I know this is specific issue but I was hoping maybe somebody has some experience with other modules being compiled and help debugging them.
    Thanks,
    Justin

    You should try with the latest apache 1.3.x version rather than with the 2.x version. The mobile server module that has been shipped has been tested with 1.3.x version. Hi! Summit,
    Thanks for your good observation.
    I already figured that and tried on
    apache_1.3.27
    I went through all te trouble to compile a EAPI enabled
    Apache to fix the 'Symbol resolving problem'
    Now I have the EAPI enabled ( pretty much ssl enabled ) Apache_1.3.27
    Now when I load the module 'libwtgapach.so'
    I get the following log ERRO entry in Apache and it never comes up.
    Here is my ewrror log says.
    OUCH: nested memory code, to 1 levels.

    OUCH: nested memory code, to 1 levels.
    This could still be due to a problem in the Shared Object 'libwtgapach.so' as without it the EAPI enaled Apache works fine.
    This is very criutical for me to get the 'Mobile' project we are researching on to get going.
    Any help is deeply appreciated, I am trying ORACLE with not much help.
    One thing strange though, the olite_50200_linux.cpio distribution from ORACLE download page installation documentation does not even mention about the Apache Module Configuration detalis.
    I presume it is implied as trivial.

  • Volunteer needed to help debug a Boost library in Sun Studio

    Hello,
    I've recently added a new Boost library called Boost.Flyweight to this project's
    internal repository
    [http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/trunk/libs/flyweight/doc/index.html]
    and found out that Sun Studio (versions 5.7 thru 5.9) have runtime problems with
    a particular library test, as described in
    [http://lists.boost.org/boost-testing/2008/12/6048.php]
    My requests for help at the Boost mailing lists have met no response, so I'm
    looking here for volunteers to help debug this problem. Basically I need someone
    with access to Sun Studio and some C++ fluency (and familiarity with
    Boost is a plus, too). I'd be trying to provide as much support as possible
    during the process. In return the kind volunteer will receive my eternal gratitude
    and an entry in the lib's acknowledgements section.
    If you're interested please drop me an email to joaquin at tid.es
    Thank you very much,
    Joaquín M López Muñoz
    Telefónica, Investigación y Desarrollo

    The problem has been identified as a compiler bug, and bug number 6782987 has been filed for it.
    The bug report will be visible at bugs.sun.com in a day or two.
    Compiler versions earlier than 5.9 (Sun Studio 12) are not very good a compiling BOOST, but this particular bug exists in the latest development compiler. One of our engineers is looking for a workaround, and he will post something here if he finds one.
    A fix for this bug should show up in a future patch to Sun Studio 12. If you have a service contract with Sun, you can escalate this bug for faster service, and get a pre-release version of the compiler patch.

  • Help please :how to debug OutOfMemory exception

    Hello
    Our application gives OutofMemory exception randomly. The server we are using has enough memory. Can anyone suggest an approach to debug this issue. Our server has lots of memory. Our memory Java parameters are set to default
    Ammar

    The amount of physical memory you have on your server has no bearing on OutOfMemoryErrors; this is solely affected by the memory parameters you pass into the Java VM. Try increasing the upper memory limit.
    I wrote an article a while back about tracing memory leaks. You can use the technique described in this article to see why your application is using so much memory:

  • Need help debugging desktop crashes

    Hi all,
    I've started having trouble with random desktop crashes. It only happens occasionally (twice in the past couple of weeks), but my screens black out (no signal). The desktop is still powered on, but I can't ssh to it. I'm pretty sure I wasn't doing anything specific either time to cause the crash.

    Is this the log of a failed boot or of a successful one? If it is a successful one, please provide the log of a failed boot. This log seems to say that there are 3 displays detected, so I think this is a normal boot.
    What I would like to see is if the failed boot starts X or not. That is, assuming you use X. When the boot fails, do you see messages on your screen before it goes black?

  • Need help debugging page in IE8

    The site in question works great on every browser except IE8. There is a div underneath the blue logo on the left hand side of the page that fades in with some copy. It is driven by a simple embedded script. However, I cannot figure out why it is not working in IE8. It just will not show up. I have tried multiple things and at this point I dont care if the fade in works, I just want the side text to appear on the left hand side of the page underneath the logo without having to reformat the page. I tried removing the javascript altogether and and removing the "Display: none" funtion from each div so they would be visible, but they are still not showing up. What gives?
    The div that it being called by the javascript code is #wrapper_content_home, by which it contains three other divs within it that fade-in when the script is fired (#pageTitle, #solidDivider, #sideContent).
    I am currently using VirtualBox to test and have it configured to Windows XP 32 bit using IE8.
    Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my code or what I need to do to fix this issue? Could it be a Doctype declaration issue? At this point, I have no idea. Thanks in advance for any help with this!
    Here is a link to the page in question: http://fountainplace.com/team/
    Here is a JS Fiddle I set up for debugging (view my code): http://jsfiddle.net/FAzaD/2/

    >I was taking a Dreamweaver class at the Denver Art
    Institute, that was worthless
    Yes, those classes usually are worthless because they focus
    on using the tool without giving you the proper foundation for
    understanding and managing html and css. Unfortunately, all of the
    example sites you gave you AP Divs (layers) as a primary layout
    method, which is a terrible approach. AP Divs should be used rarely
    if ever, and only when you understand how they work. When the
    visitors font is sized differently than you expected, the site
    falls apart. The correct approach is to learn web
    design/development outside of the context of a specific
    application.
    http://www.w3schools.com/html/
    is a good place to start for a basic understanding of html and css.
    And some basic layout techniques can be found here:
    http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php

    your constants are:
    public static final int TOKENID = 0;
    public static final int STATE = 1;
    public static final int NEID = 2;
    public static final int CURTOKEN = 3;
    public static final int MAXTOKEN = 4;your readExternal and writeExternal methods are...
    public void readExternal(PofReader reader)
    throws IOException
        tokenID = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(TOKENID));
        neID = reader.readString(NEID);
        tokensCurrentlyActive = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(CURTOKEN));
        maxTokensAvailable = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(MAXTOKEN));
        state = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(STATE));
    public void writeExternal(PofWriter writer)
    throws IOException
        writer.writeString(TOKENID,Integer.toString(tokenID));
        writer.writeString(NEID,neID);
        writer.writeString(CURTOKEN,Integer.toString(CURTOKEN));
        writer.writeString(MAXTOKEN,Integer.toString(MAXTOKEN));
        writer.writeString(STATE,Integer.toString(STATE));
    }so the order you are writing the fields is 0, 2, 3, 4, 1 which you cannot do as with POF you must always write the fields in numerical oeder of the POF ID.
    Like this...
    public void readExternal(PofReader reader)
    throws IOException
        tokenID = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(TOKENID));
        state = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(STATE));
        neID = reader.readString(NEID);
        tokensCurrentlyActive = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(CURTOKEN));
        maxTokensAvailable = Integer.parseInt(reader.readString(MAXTOKEN));
    public void writeExternal(PofWriter writer)
    throws IOException
        writer.writeString(TOKENID,Integer.toString(tokenID));
        writer.writeString(STATE,Integer.toString(STATE));
        writer.writeString(NEID,neID);
        writer.writeString(CURTOKEN,Integer.toString(CURTOKEN));
        writer.writeString(MAXTOKEN,Integer.toString(MAXTOKEN));
    }For Pof ID values you can use any int you like and you can have gaps (so you could use 100, 200, 300 etc...) but they must always be written and read in order.

  • ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException - help debug ?

    Can someone help me debug this? I keep getting the out of bounds exception and I've tried adding 1 to the length....
         public int[] AscendingSort(int[] Students)
                   int temp = 0;
                   for(int i = 0 ; i < Students.length ; i++)
                             if(Students[i] > Students[i + 1])
                                  temp = Students[i] ;
                                  Students[i] = Students[i + 1];
                                  Students[i + 1] = temp;
              return Students;
              }

    Suppose your array is like this
    3,2,1.
    So
    for(int i = 1 ; i > Students.length ; i++)this line evaluates to
    for(int i = 1 ; i > 3 ; i++)which is true.So the control enters the loop.
    Now the next line is
    if(Students[i] < Students[i - 1])which inturn evaluates to
    if(Students[1] < Students[0])i.e
    if(2<3)which again evaluates to true.So the control now enters the if block
    Now the block of code that follows i.e
    temp = Students[i] ;
    Students[i] = Students[i + 1];
    Students[i + 1] = temp;evaluates to
    temp = Students[1] ;
    Students[1] = Students[2];
    Students[2] = temp;which inturn evaluates to
    temp = 2;
    Students[1] = 1;
    Students[2] = 2;So instead of swaping 3 and 2 (Students[0] and Students[1]) your code is swapping 2 and 1 (Students[1] and Students[2])
    So what you need to do is to swap only those array variables that you are checking
    Again if you are going for sorting then you probably would be needing another nested loop
    which would look something like this
    for(int i = 0 ; i <Students.length-1 ; i++)
             for(int j = i+1;j < Students.length;j++)
                             if(Students[j] < Students) { temp=Sutdents[i];
                                  Students[i] = Students[j];
                                  Students[j] = temp;
    Now I believe it would sort the array

    Hi,
    The exceptions for OPEN DATASET statement are catchable.
    Catch the particular exception and you will know the exact cause for the same.
    Use TRY-CATCH
    Do an F1 help on OPEN DATASET statement for more deatils.
    The exceptions which can be caught are :-
    CX_SY_FILE_OPEN
    CX_SY_CODEPAGE_CONVERTER_INIT
    CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE
    CX_SY_FILE_AUTHORITY
    CX_SY_PIPES_NOT_SUPPORTED
    CX_SY_TOO_MANY_FILES
    So the error can be any of these.

  • Urgent Help Req.: Exception=ORABPEL-11162 Error while reading native data

    Hi All,
    I am getting below error: Exception=ORABPEL-11162
    Error while reading native data.
    [Line=6, Col=7|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/] Not enough data available in the input, when trying to read data of length "22" for "element with name PurOrderNum" from the specified position, using "style" as "fixedLength" and "length" as "22".
    Ensure that there is enough data from the specified position in the input.
    Let me also give you the brief scenario of what I am trying to achieve.
    INTERFACE FUNCTIONING:_
    I have an interface which reads the records in a file in a chunk through ChunkRead adapter and and after one successful reading if chunk it calls the DB adapter to insert the records in the table.
    Now these records are committed and next chunk is read and the process goes on till all the records are read.
    After this the API is called which does the processing of these records.
    Inserting records in the DB is a XA transaction which means if anything goes wrong while inserting the data, the records which are added earlier are rolled back.
    ISSUE:_
    Now the issue comes when I do the negative testing. Since my file is based on fixed length schema., I change the length of last record from 15 to 13. (say total are 10 records)
    Now what happens is when chunkread tries to read the record of 15 length it gets only 13 characters and hence ignores the records.
    But the chunkread reads all other 9 records correctly and sends this to DB adapter which now inserts them correctly in the DB.
    But being a global transaction I want that if any record is missing from DB in comparison to those in file then whole transaction should roll back.
    So I am unable to make this whole process as global transaction. This is because the ChunkRead adapter inspite of detecting the error doesn&rsquo;t throw it back.
    Moreover if this problem occurs in say next chunk then also I am unable to find out how to rollback the whole transaction. Because the first chunk was correct.
    So basically two concerns are there:+
    How to detect that chunkread adapter has missed one record?+
    Secondly, If it&rsquo;s detected then how should I rollback the transaction that caused earlier records to enter into database?+
    Please let me know if anyone has faced this issue earlyer and how it got resolved. Any pointers regarding this would be of great help.
    Also attached is the chunkread log for reference.

    Just a thought, you could set the terminator for the last field as {eol} instead of length, this means that it should read the last field regardless of the length.
    Depending on the logic of Db adapter the error could be traped due to incorrect length.
    If the file starts each row with a constant(s), e.g. 01 then you can terminate the previous line on that, this is the better option but relys on the file format.
    The other option is a little thing call compensation, ouch. Basically this allows you to back out commited rows but you have to provide all the logic, it is generally something people avoid because of the complexity.
    cheers
    James
