Help - Default OS password for installing updates?

I have a G4. I tried to download and install software updates last night but it asked me for a password to install the updates. I'm not aware of any password I set up.
Does anyone know if there is a default password for installing new software?

I'm not sure how this relates to AppleScript, but..
There is no default password that anyone else can tell you.
If you're using an admin account you can use your username and password, otherwise you can use 'admin' using the password you defined when you first installed/ran the system.
If you don't recall that password, boot from the installer CD/DVD and choose the 'Change root password' option from the menus in the installer (before you actually run the install).

• Default userid/password for Essbase 7.1.5

Hi All,

I've just now upgraded to Essbase 7.1.5. At the time of installation I gave the 'NAME' as 'James Galt' and system password as 'password'.
Earlier on every upgrade it used to recognize the old security file and I could login to a fresh upgrade using my old id/password. But this time it does seem to recognize the essbase.sec file.

could somebody please let me know the default user-id password for version 7.1.5, so that I can atleast login and try creating some users.

Any help in this matter s highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
[email protected]

There's no such ting as a default user ID and password for Essbase. The system user ID and password is the one you create when you install Essbase. IF you want to reset and start from scratch, delete the essbase.sec file and launch essbase.exe from \essbase\bin. You will be prompted to enter a new user ID and password. Hint : it's not good practive to use someone's name as the system ID. BE aware of a couple of things if you do this, any users, filters, applications, etc you had we'll be gone and have to be re-created. If this was an upgrade from the previous version, upon install completion, you would run the essbase.exe and it would prompt you for the existing password. If it's not working, chances are you are using the wrong password. Remember, the system password might not be the same as the admin password. For instance at my location, when I did the upgrade I entered the admin password and it didn't work. I asked everyone and they said that was the only password. After digging little deeper I found that a couple of years ago it was determined the passwords were too generic so they changed them. While they changed the admin password, the system password stayed the same. After digging, I found out what the old password was and sure enough I was able to fire it up. If you don't have existing apps and users to worry about then just start fresh, but if you want to salvage what you had, then you will need to find the right password. One more thing, if you have Essbase running as a service, disable the service and run it in console mode until you get this straightened out.

HTH

• Need help with administrator password for first use??

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a dummy question. I just installed BI EE, then I was trying to open a sample Repository file, it asked me for password for Administrator account. I entered SADMIN as I found from the HELP (attached below), it didn't work; then I left it blank, it didn't work, then I tried any password I used during the installation, none of them worked.
Hopefully I can get some insight here.
Thank and have a good day.

====================
About the Oracle BI Administrator Account
The Oracle BI Administrator account (user ID of Administrator) is a default user account in every Oracle BI repository. This is a permanent account. It cannot be deleted or modified other than to change the password and logging level. It is designed to perform all administrative tasks in a repository, such as importing physical schemas, creating business models, and creating users and groups.
NOTE: The Oracle BI Administrator account is not the same as the Windows NT and Windows 2000 Administrator account. The administrative privileges granted to this account function only within the Oracle BI Server environment.
When you create a new repository, the Oracle BI Administrator account is created automatically and has no password assigned to it. You should assign a password for the Oracle BI Administrator account as soon as you create the repository. The Oracle BI Administrator account created during the installation of the Oracle BI repository, that is, the repository shipped with Oracle BI, has the default password SADMIN.
The Oracle BI Administrator account belongs to the Administrators group by default and cannot be deleted from it. The person logged on using the Oracle BI Administrator user ID or any member of the Oracle BI Administrators group has permissions to change anything in the repository. Any query issued from the Oracle BI Administrator account has complete access to the data; no restrictions apply to any objects.

• Default Server Password for WL 6.0 SP2

I have installed WL 6.0 SP2 and try running the console..
The server works fine (no errors) but when I try to acces the console app [default
port 7001/console] I get a request for a username / password..
I understand this is normal and there is no way to retreive the default username
and/or password.
I have heard that the username is "system" and the password is "password" by default.
Can anyone confirm this?? Because I have 5 boxes which cannot be used for WL6.0.
Thanks in advance.
Rod (ENIT)

Rodney,
The password should have been entered when the WLS 6.0 was installed. If
you have forgotten the password and if you have the examples domain
installed you can start that examplesserver and access the console.
If the installation was done by a different person you might want to
check the config/domain directory to see if there is a password.ini
file. This file if present will contain the password for that domain.
Hope this helps

• "Flash out of date" comes up, new install, and will not accept Password for install? Next step?

"Flash out of date" comes up, i do a new install, the log-in and password windows pops up, I type in password and it will not accept.
I have changed password, confirmed password, rebooted several times, and it still will not re-insall new version.
I am stuck.
HELP!

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt. If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

You can log in to the Enterprise Manager Database Control with any DBA user. Typically, you should be able to logon as sys or as system. The passwords for these two users where specified by you during the install of the database.
If you can't remember them, you should be able to change them on the command line after a connect as sysdba there.

• Apple Works Install Issue;"Default location required for install not found"

I am a new mac user. Just bought a Mac Air. Trying to install Apple Works 6.2.9. I downloaded, but when I try to install, I get a message "The default location required for this install could not be found. This install will be cancelled." Any ideas? Thanks!

The download isn't the complete application, it's an updater intended to be applied to an installed earlier version. AppleWorks is no longer sold by Apple but may be available on eBay or other retails. It has been 'end-of-lifed' and there is no support for it, however it works well on current Macs.
However given the situation you are probably better off getting something modern, such as iWork.

• What is the default root password for iMac?

Did I miss something in the install?
I don't have the password for the root account.
Is there a standard default?
Regards,
Ellen

The root account is not enable by default. You will have to enable it if you what it.
But let me ask you why you want to enable it? Most users have no trouble maintaining their machines by using either an admin account or sudo whne the need for root privileges arise.
