Help! Deleted Bookmarks Folder

Hi guys,
I have like a Zillions Bookmarks on Bookmark Folder on Safari 4. I accidentally deleted the folder right up on the top bar and i would like to recover it. It is very important because i have tons of them from months and months of work. I cannot do it one by one neither i know where they are.
I have Mac OS X Tiger and no Time Machine. I have Bookdog a nice app to Organize Bookmarks alphabetically.
I have not restarted my Mac so far. Is there any Temporary place where delete files go? (there is nothing in the trash can, that is for sure).
Please send some help or ideas?
Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Dimaxum, thanks for your help, but is not a "View" problem, it is a bit more complicated than that. I did accidentally deleted or erased one of my Bookmarks on the Bookmark Bar. You can see it in this attached image now.
http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1EwvPvoeK5FaC1k7OG9oMCVW00pg061
Where the yellow green rectangle is there should be a Bookmark Bar. An important one with many, many bookmarks from months of collecting links. That is the problem. I have not close Safari in hope i can recover it somewhere.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Sebastian

  • How to retrieve deleted bookmark folder

I mistakenly deleted a bookmark folder on my Mac that contained career search options from the past few months - - -yikes!! I'm hoping there is a way to retrieve it. Any help would be appreciated.

Firefox makes backups of your bookmarks at regular intervals, so you may be able to roll back a few days to the last backup.
But first, please create an export file of what you have now. In case there is a gap in your backup, the export file can be re-imported and you can recover those recent additions. (And then get rid of the duplicates.)
    * [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]] - choose a convenient location like the desktop, then open the file in a Firefox tab to confirm that it contains the expected data before proceeding
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] - when you restore a JSON backup, it replaces all of your current bookmarks completely (therefore, please do the export!)
    Any luck?

  • I can't delete a more than 10 bookmarks at a time, I can't delete bookmarks folder

    Firefox 25, Mac 10.8
If I try to delete more than 10 bookmarks at a time or a folder with bookmarks in it, FF hangs, then says there's a script that isn't running properly & do I want to continue or stop the script - I've tried continuing but it just hangs again, and I've tried stopping the script but it still hangs..
I've restarted FF, turned off Sync, turned on Sync.
I tried exporting my bookmarks to html, to edit them in a file then re-import them, but the file was incomplete - it did not contain all the folder in My Bookmarks.
Deleting bookmarks has been a pain ever since Sync was introduced, and Firefox doesn't have an official iOS app and the 3rd party ones don't work consistently, so I don't get much use from sync

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in stating my problem.
I understand how to delete both bookmarks and folders containing bookmarks according to the instructions, and have done so easily in the past.
But, since update to FF25 I haven't been able to delete a folder with bookmarks in it or more than 10-12 bookmarks at a time.
I resolved the issue by quitting FF, importing my bookmarks into Chrome, using Chrome's import as FF also was not exporting a complete bookmark list. I cleared out some duplicates in Chrome, exported bookmarks from Chrome to an html file, removed the places sqlite file from my profile, deleted all FF bookmarks, and imported the bookmarks html file into FF, which created a new & functional places sqlite file with the same set of bookmarks as at the beginning. I can only think the places file was corrupted somehow during the update as that was the only file I had to delete to fix the issue - I can now move & delete folders with hundreds of bookmarks in them and delete as many bookmarks as needed at one time.
"There is no way to select more than one item at a time in the right pane in the mac environnement. " (sic)
I think you mean there is no way to delete more than 1 item at a time in the LEFT panel, the list of folders, not in the right panel, the list of bookmarks and the contents (bookmarks) of subfolders.

  • Deleted bookmarks folder

I just deleted an folder of bookmarks without even noticing. I must have hit delete while I had the folder selected, as the next thing I knew the folder was gone. Is there any way to retrieve the lost bookmarks?

Your Bookmarks aren't kept in a folder; they're in a file named Bookmarks.plist. So unless you were mucking around and deleted that containing folder, the bookmarks are still there.
But if you had bookmarks in a folder on your Bookmarks bar, you can only get rid of that folder by Command-dragging it off the bar, which case the bookmarks should still be in your list of all bookmarks.

  • How do I retore a deleted bookmark folder? I have tried several things to no avail, but hve not turned the computer off.

I was trying to delete a file but must have had the folder highlighted instead and deleted it instead.
    Please help.

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
    # At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
    # Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
    # In the new window that appears, click OK.
    # Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.

  • How to recover a Deleted Bookmark folder

After clicking on the "show all bookmarks" button in Safari, I selected the folder I wanted to delete (or thought I had), then went to the Edit Menu and chose Delete. Only later - once the Undo option had expired - did I realize it was the wrong folder.
I know that deleting files doesn't erase them, only transfers them to the empty space of the Hard Drive. Which is why I walked away from my Mac last night until I could post the following question today...
What's the best software out there to recover my old bookmark file?
P.S. Unfortunately I didn't have my bookmarks backed up with .mac.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
compare the txt file to your bookmarks plist file in textedit, or whatever editor you use.
If the file starts with the same
"bplist00Õ„…UTitle_WebBookmarkTypeXChildren...." string - you might just be in luck.
if so, I'd try backing up your current bookmarks.plist, renaming this txt file as bookmarks.plist & dropping it in the Safari folder after quitting safari, then starting safari.....
If you want to be all safe n sound - you might do this in a different user account to see if it works ( if it doesn't, safari will likely crash ).....
Even if this doesn't work, you may be able to re-construct the file correctly by examination of the start & end of a real bookmarks.plist file & mimicking that, using the data from your recovered file.

I have tried sync, but don't want it. First I unchecked all the boxes so nothing syncs, then I deactivated my computer, and then I deleted my sync account. But there is STILL a mobile bookmarks folder in my Firefox which I can't delete. How to get rid of this?

    First, open the preferences panel:

Then press the "Clear private data" button.

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • Help!  I deleted a folder, and now my iPod doesn't work!

Being the new owner of an iPod, I was unaware that I was required to use iTunes to manage data. Instead, I browsed the iPod's files using Windows Explorer and manually deleted a folder of pictures. Now my iPod no longer works; it displays a link to the Apple support site. My computer no longer recognizes the iPod (once it is connected, it displays the removable drive in My Computer, but doesn't show up in iTunes. iPod Updater freezes when the iPod is connected.), so I cannot restore it. Please help!
    PC Windows XP Pro

had the same problem aswell mate, dont worry its not too complicated
1st step is to get ur ipod into disk mode and open my computer. once here right click on removable disk and select format. if this works that means ur computer is atleast responding to your ipod and the problem should be over and done with.
if that doesnt work goto step 2
step 2 is, when you turn your ipod on does it make any sounds??? if it makes some beeps and little sounds you have a problem with your hard disk in the ipod. not to worry if your ipods new its under warranty and you can send it back.
step3 is to call apple on 1-800-275-2273 between 9 am and 9pm. follow the prompts and talk to a consultant.
the same thing happened to me, so everything above is what i was told from an ipod consultant. good luck and dont stress.

They don't go into the Trash. Unless you have a backup prior to the deletion time it's gone.

  • Is it possible to replace the folder image in the bookmarks list with little images to help identify the folder. I see that many places I have bookmarked automatically come with a little picture (the CBS "eye", New York Times Old English Script).

When I open my list of bookmarks most of the folders I have established have only the little file folder icon to the left. I would like to replace this file folder with some little picture or symbol to make the folders more easily identifiable. Is this possible?

There aren't extensions that can replace the favicon of a bookmarks folder AFAIK, so you will have to do that via code in userChrome.css in the chrome folder below the @namespace line.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/userChrome.css
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
You can use the ChromEdit Plus or Stylish extension to have easier access to the customization files.
    *ChromEdit Plus: http://webdesigns.ms11.net/chromeditp.html
Folder names (label="name") are cases sensitive and need to match exactly what you get via the properties
Pace the folder-icon.png icons in the same chrome folder.
This code works for icons on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
    <pre><nowiki>#personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item[container][label="Folder_Name"]{
    list-style-image:url('folder-icon.png')!important;
    -moz-image-region:auto!important;
    </nowiki></pre>
