Help! Deleted Imovie Projects from both Drives!!

I have to go to the beginning so everything will make sense. Please read the whole thing before making any suggestions. Thank you.
I recently got a MyBook, and reinstalled Leopard onto it. Later it asks me if I want to transfer all my data from my other harddrive.
(Well, I wanted another external harddrive to have more space for my projects, but I didn't want to have to go through reinstalling everything. So I decided when it finishes, I'll delete somethings that it copied, so both hard drives won't look as identical.)
The Drive was 2 TB, and I still had 1.78 TB left after I copied everything from the other hard drive. It would take me took long to explain why I did that, considering that sooo much space was left.
So anyway, I come across my Imovie Folder. Instead of CHECKING to see which hard drive was in, I assumed that it was on my new hard drive it wasn't. Then in a miraculous Idiot Savant moment, I did the same thing in the new drive without realizing it....until I did it of course. And wondered, how in the world did I delete the same folder-No-iindividual Projects, Twice!? So now I'm confused, then anxious, then angry, and then confused again. These were Imovie 08 projects. Some of them might've been trivial things, like music videos I created of show and clips from my life, but their still things I created.
Now mind you, I've never set up time machine, and now I really wish I did.
So I go scouring through the internet trying to find Some restore programs, you name it I tried it, Data Rescue 3, Stellerphoenix, and Data drill. Non of them worked.
On the weird bright side, I created DvD's of some of the videos. And I still have the video files. Just not the projects, or the Dv events that Imovie saved.
But I still wish I could retrieve them.
If you guy's have any information for me...Anything, I would greatly appreciated it. I need all the help I can get.
Thank you.

If you didn't have the on backup, then they're gone unless you enlist the services of a professional data recover service.  Lesson learned, unfortunately.

  • Transfer iMovie project from external drive??

I posted this on the iMovie forum with no luck. I thought I would try here in case it was a Snow Leopard issue.
My Apple died, so I transferred everything from the external backup to my new apple. It was all backed up with Time Machine. Everything went perfect except for my iMovie Project. It copied well, but I cant open it. The message says:
If the project is already on your hard disk, then the disk may be completely full, or you may not have permission to modify that folder. Correct the problem and try again.
the computer hard drive shows 28 GB are open for use (this is after the iMovie project was transferred over). I had this problem before on this new computer because I was using it for my business and had an administrative account separate from the guest account so others did not have access to some files. Anyway, I found out that I could open the iMovie project on the guest account but not with the administrative account. I still can not open it with the administrative account. I thought the administrative account was the only account I had now. There is a guest account which is disabled. I enabled and tried that, but when I logged in, the desktop did not even include the hard drive??
Anyway, I do not want to have to go to the guest account to work on my project, I only want access to everything on the one account.
When I check the permissions for the file. It shows that there are two "Everyone" listings with the icon of 3 people. One of them has "Custom" as a privilege and the other one has "Read & Write" as a privilege. I don't know what any of this means.
I know I said a lot. I was hoping to give as much info as possible.
    Please help.
    Thank You

I fixed it. I kept playing around with privileges until I found the right option. I have it now, thank you.
I did this earlier but no luck. I am good now.

  • IMovie Project from External Hard Drive not Opening?

    Please help!!
Fairly new to MACs, iMovie and iDVD, I didn't have a clear understanding of how saving iMovie projects worked. Reading various tutorials, I thought I had a clear understanding of how they work. Apparently not with my recent frustration with iMovie.
I created several iMovie Projects but needed more space in order to make more projects for my internship thus I did what I thought was common sense -- get an external hard drive.
I exported iMovie projects into my user account and from there, dragged the saved projects into an external hard drive and then deleted the iMovie projects from my user account.
However, when I needed to retrieve these projects, I simply turned on my hard drive and clicked on them to open. However, whenever I tried opening them, they wouldn't open. Is it because I didn't export them to the hard drive in the first place?
What I don't understand is why iMovie is not opening or recognizing the saved iMovie projects from the external hard drive when the size and kind clearly indicate that it should open with iMovie automatically.
What is the proper way of saving my iMovie projects and events so that I can always have access to whenever I need to open up an old project or simply edit?

Freeing up space on your Mac hard drive in iMovies ’08.
The application iMovie ‘08 has two main libraries displayed in the iMovie window: Events and Projects. Events are the main imports from your video camera, say. These files are big and you have the option to save them on an external hard drive and so iMovie knows to find them there. Projects are your editing instructions like what clips you want and where. The files are small and you save them on your Mac hard drive. They are NOT the clips only signposts where to find them (in Events on your external hard drive). You can move Projects to your external hard drive as back-up but iMovie will not find them there. If you then delete Projects from your Mac, iMovie can no longer make use of them unless you manually export them back into iMovie from your external hard drive. See Apple Article HT1026 iMovie '08: Moving iMovie footage to another drive (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026). Here the external hard disk is used for moving Projects from one computer to another and, by implication, back to the source computer.
Sharing the projects to iTunes for syncing with Apple TV creates (publishes) movies that take up the same amount of space on your Mac as the source Projects. You can still burn DVDs in iDVD using the iTunes Movies as your Media so provided you have iMovie Projects backed up on your external hard drive you can delete them from your Mac and just use the iTunes Movies (for Apple TV and iDVD). In addition, publishing iMovie Projects in iTunes for syncing to Apple TV results in these files being duplicated in both Movies/iMovies Sharing/iTunes AND in iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies so delete them from here and get even more GBs back! Tell iTunes in Advanced not to save these iTunes published movies anymore in order to stop further duplication ocurring.

  • How do I import an imovie project from an external drive to imovie?

My hard drive on Macbook Pro 2009 recently crashed. Luckily I backed up my imovie projects on an external. I upgraded with new hard drive and installed snow leopard. I transferred this particular imovie project from external to the 'movies' folder on the internal drive. When I launch imovie to find this particular imovie project all I see are various folders associated with this particular project not the imovie project icon (the icon where I double click and begin editing). If I try to import directly from external drive the project icons are grayed out.
Furthermore if I try to import any video (whether from external or internal drive) on imovie it says:
This file could not be moved:
(Insufficient access privileges for operation )
All movie files play on quicktime when I test them, so I'm unsure as to why I don't have access privileges.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any replies to this one? Anyone????

  • Can I open an imovie project from an external hard drive on a different computer than my own? If so how?

Can I open an imovie project from an external hard drive on a different computer other than my own? If so how?

If you used the Finder to move the files, iMovie will have lost track of them. iMovie holds the locations of the Event files, and Project files contain references to those locations. If you move the files, iMovie has no way of knowing where they are.
If you can, first move all the files back to their original locations. Plug in the external drive. Open iMovie and move the files in iMovie's interface (help explains how, but basically, just drag and drop in the event pane).
Then you can connect the drive to the new computer, and iMovie will see them.

If you have iPhoto '09, you cannot browse or restore seleted items from your backups.  See the pink box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
Mail should work, however, per the blue box there.

  • How do I Retrieve imovie projects from and external drive back into my mac internal drive

How do I Retrieve imovie projects from and external drive back into my mac internal drive?
    Thank You

Every working drive, Internal or External, should produce an Icon on your Desktop. If you cannot see those, click on the Desktop (to get Finder) and choose Preferences off the Finder Menu. The general pane has checkboxes for "Show these items on the Desktop:"
Double click the Icon for your External Drive to open it. Open the folders on it until you find the Items you want to copy. Drag them to the Icon of your Internal Drive, or open the folder where you want them to land and drop them in there.
A drive that does not appear on the desktop after you have asked it to may be damaged. But it would be smart to do a Restart to see if it is recognized again at next Startup.

  • Import project from other drive

    Hi,
I have upgraded my MacBook with an 256 GB SSD in the former combo drive place which now contains the OS, Apps and system files. The "old" 1TB HD is still there where it was but only contains media files (Music, Images and Video).
I have managed to connect Aperture and iPhoto on the SSD to it's image library on the HD.
But how do I do this with iMovie? When I launch iMovie, it shows both drives but doesn't show any content other than iPhoto-Videos.
    p.

There are a lot of nuances to this.
I am running my OSX and my apps on a SSD and running my home folder on the spinning hard drive.
Here is good info that helped me set it up from longtime forum contributor Pondini (James Ponds).
    http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupOther.html
If you choose to keep you home folder (your User Name folder) on the SSD, then your iMovie Events are probobly going to be too large for that.
If you have your home folder on the hard disk, they would be in <User Name>/Movies/iMovie Projects and <User Name>/Movies/iMovie Events respectively.
If your home folder is on the SSD, then the folders on your Hard drive need to be at the top level of the drive and be named iMovie Projects and iMovie Events, respectively.
You really need to do the move from the SSD to the hard drive from within iMovie, so that all the links are preserved. If your SSD is not big enough to do this, do one project and its events at a time.
Here is how to move projects from within iMovie.

Here is how to move Events from within iMovie.

  • Deleting photo file from hard drive

    Hello,
I would like to be able to delete items (photos) from both the iPhoto library and my hard drive, but I don't seem to be able to. After I delete items from the iPhoto library, the files are still on the hard drive... (I did empty the trash and I did delete the items from the Library folder)
Note: I just started using iPhoto. I already had a large (?) (9000+ items) library of photos that I keep on an external firewire hard drive. I did not use the "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" function, because a) I didn't want to wait for the system to copy all 9000 images, b) my internal hard drive isn't really big enough to store all these images and c) I'd like to keep using other software (Photoshop, stich software, etc.) to view, open and edit my images.
I like using iPhoto, it seems faster than what I've been using and I like the clean interface, but if I can't use iPhoto to both view and delete images it might not be the software I'm looking for...
My apologies if this question has been answered prior - I just searched and couldn't find an answer.
    Thanks for all help!

Unfortunately the "Show File" or "Show Original File" command doesn't seem to work when more than one file is selected... (the program just points to one of the selected files). Is there a workaround?
No, I think you'll need to do it one at a time.
How would I specify more than one external application (e.g. Photoshop and a panorama stitching app)
No, you won't be able to set up more than one app at a time. The obvious one being to set up Photoshop. What I would do is export the pics for stitching and then import the resulting image as a new image - but that's just me.
Saving an additional file is as simple either duplicating in iPhoto or using Save As in Photoshop and the importing the new file.
You can download with Image Capture (in your Applications folder) and rename files with a batch renamer such as File List. iPhoto has no facility to rename files except on export as filenames are quite irrelevant within iPhoto. You can, of course, apply titles in iPhoto.
As you say, perhaps the app is not for you - it's not right for everybody in every situation.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can I move an ongoing imovie project from my mac to another mac?

I would like to move my ongoing imovie project from one mac to another and then continue working with the project. Is this possible? If it is, how do I do?
    /Caro

You will need an external hard drive that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then you will move the Project to the external hard drive from within iMovie.
    See here for instructions. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613
Then you will use the File/Consoldate Media command to move everything else.
    See here for instructions. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9
You can edit on the new Mac from the external drive, but if you prefer, you can move everything to the new Mac by using the same instructions above.

  • Deleted iMovie Project

I accidentally deleted a Project from iMovie (2011 version) and trashed it (how stupid can you be?). Is there any way to retrieve it?

If you haven't emptied the Trash, click on the Trash icon and drag the project from the Finder window to the Desktop. Now, if your projects are normally stored on your internal drive, drag the project to the iMovie Projects folder in your User (Home)>Movies folder. Open iMovie - it should now list your project in the Project Library.
(Note that, if your projects are normally stored on an external drive, drag the project to the iMovie Projects folder at the top level of the drive).
If you had previously emptied the Trash, hopefully you have a back-up, such as Time Machine. Otherwise, you are out of luck - sorry!

  • What is the easiest way to transfer a large imovie project from one computer to another in a different location.

What is the easiest way to transfer an faairly large HD imovie project from one computer to another in a different location. Can you export to drop box? Will the other computer need the exact imovie version?

    OK it depends.
If you have a finished movie, you can SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and create your final movie. Then, depending on the size of the finished movie, you can transfer via dropbox or similar service. Ninety minutes is a very long movie for iMovie, but it may work for you. I would suggest 720P to keep the size down.
If you need to transfer the entire iMovie Project so it can be edited in iMovie at the other end, then you need to transfer the project and event assets to an external hard drive and get the hard drive to the other location.
Directions are here. Follow the directions for 1) Moving or copying Project to external drive. Then 2) Consolidate Media.

I have no problems copying iMovie Events from one Mac to another, however, how can I copy iMovie Projects from one Mac to another?  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

This should give you some good insight, I'd probably store them on an External HD on the old machine and then just drag and drop to the new machine.

how do i migrate all my imovie projects from one computer to another

You need to attach the computers to one another say with a firewire cable? Or use an external hard drive to copy the Events/Projects and then move the hard drive to the other computer. Are you able to do either one of these first?

  • Problem with imovie download from icloud drive

I recently logged into icloud.com from my windows 7 pc and selected the icloud drive icon. From there, I went into the imovies folder and then uploaded a short mp4 video (44mb) that I had saved on my hard drive.  It was a video taken from an iphone a long time ago. It uploaded successfully and the video file is now sitting in my iMovie folder on icloud.com.  Good so far.
Now, I went to my ios 8 iphone 5 (icloud drive enabled) and opened my iMovie app.  Within the app, I tap on "projects" and then tap the download icon because I would like to get the video I just uploaded to drive, onto my phone. This now shows me my iMovie folder from icloud drive.  I tap on this folder, and it shows me the video I just uploaded, along with other iMovie projects that are already on my phone.  The problem is, it doesn't let me tap on ANY of the videos to download them.  It almost seems as if they are greyed out. Even the ones that are already on my phone as projects. I still have plenty of phone and icloud storage capacity.
Is anyone having the same problem or has a resolution?

    Hi,
i have similar problem. i have recently uploaded many videos to iCloud Photo Library. If I tried to use any of the videos in iMovie on iOS, I cannot download them. When tapping the download button, it does not do anything.
    IS this a bug?
