Help!  Deleting photos isn't freeing up space on my iPhone 5c

Tonight I took videos at my daughters recital and used up all the space on my phone.  When I got home, I copied the photos onto my computer and then deleted the copies on my phone.  Currently, I have 24 photos on my phone and no videos.  When I look at my phones DCIM folder (from my computer) it says that 48.7MB is being used but on my phone, when I go to "Manage Storage" it says that the Photos & Camera is using up 4.7 GB.
How do I free up this space on my phone?  It's like all the deleted files aren't actually gone.
Thank you for your help.

Put the iPhoto Library in the trash and empty it. They are various ipod caches and other ancillary files in there that make no sense preserving if you’ve emptied the library. Next time you start iPhoto it will make a new empty Library.

  • Deleting photos isn't freeing space

    Quick summary:
Started out with 3.9gb used by photo app (when looking under 'usage').  I started to delete photos and the 3.9 didn't budge... eventually I delteed over 500 photos and 5 to 10 videos.  Photo app still says 3.9gb used.... I've done hard restarts (pushing both buttons), and updated by iOS to 8.0.2...still no change from 3.9.  My phone is a 5S.
Any help is appreciated... I'm not really sure what to do.
    Thanks all!

Found the answer in another thread:
in iOS 8 there is a new tab in the photos application that says "Recentry Deleted" if you click on it you can go into the tab and delete the photos again the same way that you originally would from your camera roll. or they will delete on there own in about a couple days.

  • I get error message: not enough space to download when I try to buy a tv series on Itunes. It tells me to delete photos or videos to make space, but I have no photos and videos. Help?

I get error message: not enough space to download when I try to buy a tv series on Itunes. It tells me to delete photos or videos to make space, but I have no photos and videos. Help?

I would guess that a TV series takes up a fair amount of storage capacity. It is just a standard message I think that may indicate that you are actually running low on storage space.
If you go to Settings>General>About how many GBs are specified as being available?  If you are low on space maybe deleting some apps may help.

  • How do I begin freeing up space on my iphone?

How do I begin freeing up space on my iphone?  Is there away to clear unnecessary or duplicated information?  Or consolidate my itunes library so that it takes up less room?  Would it be possible to purchase more space?

The iPhone does not have expandable memory.
If you need more free space, remove stuff from the device.

  • Can someone tell me how to delete photos off my iPad that came from my iPhone?

I can't delete photos on my iPad that came through iCloud from my iPhone. Can someone please help?

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486 :
How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream in iCloud?
Individual photos cannot be deleted from your Photo Stream. You can, however, delete all the photos in your Photo Stream by clicking the Reset Photo Stream button in your account at icloud.com. The Reset Photo Stream button will instantly delete all Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud, but it will not remove any Photo Stream photos that have already been pushed to your devices.
How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream on my devices?
After deleting the photos from your Photo Stream in iCloud, you can remove the Photo Stream photos from your devices as follows:
On your iOS devices, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream and turn Photo Stream off. This will delete all the photos from your Photo Stream album. If there are any photos you want to keep on your device, make sure to add them to an album or save them to your Camera Roll first.

  • Help! Emptying Trash in iMovie isn't freeing up space

I am quickly running out of GB in iMovie. In all the previous editions if you emptied the trash you got that GB space back.. But when I do it now, it's not freeing up any space.. I am down to 1.11 GB available.. can anyone help?

Eric, iMovie HD uses non-destructive editing of clips. That means you can always restore a clip to its original length. If you import a 5-minute clip and split it into three parts, each of the three clips can be restored to the length of the original clip. If you screw up, recovery is just a few mouseclicks away.
In iMovie 4, if Clips 1, 2 and 3 share the same source file, trashing Clip 2 will remove its frames from the source file, shortening the file. You will recover that disk space when you empty the iMovie trash.
That's not how it works in iMovie HD. When you empty the trash the source file is NEVER shortened, for Clips 1 and 3 must be restorable to the full length of the original clip. If other clips use that source file, no disk space is recovered because no frames are removed from the source file.
Disk space is only recovered when you discard the LAST clip of a source file. Then iMovie HD discards the entire file.
When it does that, note that iMovie HD moves the file to the Mac Trash (in the Finder). So you must empty the Mac Trash too to recover the disk space.
BTW, you can pretty much ignore the Trash numbers reported by iMovie HD. It's reporting the size of the source file, which may or may not actually be discarded.
There are pros and cons to non-destructive editing, of course. The biggest disadvantage is that we recover less disk space. The advantage is we can always restore a clip -- even when Copying and Pasting clips between projects.
There's also improved reliability. When emptying the Trash, we no longer see the project corruption we sometimes saw in iMovie 2/3/4.
Fortunately, large FireWire drives are cheap and getting cheaper. (You may need one, by the way, for your drive is very full. Best advice I hear is to leave at least 10% empty or Mac OS X itself can get into trouble.)
If that's not an option, one solution is to export the iMovie HD project back to the camera, then re-import it to a new project. The new project won't contain the discarded stuff.

  • Deleting clips isn't freeing space up, nothing appears in my trash

I've been working on a project in move, roughly 15 minutes long
All the clips from that have been taking up so much space in my laptop (65 GB) I decided to delete the clips as I finished certain areas of my project. I've deleted roughly 40% of the clips, yet I still only have 2.5 GB of space on my computer. And to make things worse, now when I move my clips to the trash, nothing appears, as if it were blank
    Please help me

What size is your hard disk?
Can you use disk Utility to get information about its size and how much is used?
Deleting items inside a sparse disk image will not reduce its size.
As requested please take this up in the correct conference but return here and post a link to it.

  • Freeing up space by removing iphone photos

    Hi Forum,
Tonight i encountered something very unfamilar to me when syncing my iphone 6. when plugged into my computer the task bar located at the bottom of the iTunes details the space being used by particular applications (EG, music, photos, apps, other) .
It is displaying that my photo count and size( GB/MB) is larger than what is actually on located on my camera roll. for example it currently says there is 119 photos on the roll (including recently deleted) and when im looking in my settings> General> About . its says 531.
Help!! how do i free up this space of other things.
    Thanking you

Deleting them from the iphone will have ne effect on the content of your ipad.

  • Need help deleting photos!

I have a "new" ipad (3) and when my son came home from his trip abroad, I decided to try my camera connection kit. I copied all his photos from his cameras memory card to my ipad so we could sit down and look at them all.  I left them ont he ipad so I could show them to other family members, but its now been a couple months, and I wanted to delete them all. I couldn't - no option whatsoever. But I was told this was a known limitation with ios 5, and would be fixed in 6 -
So I've now had 6 on my ipad for a couple days, and I still can't figure out how to remove these couple thousand photos. I need to handle it from my ipad - I gave my niece my macbook pro to take to college a couple weeks ago, so I do not have easy access to a computer (until now, I was convinced that my ipad would be all the computer I needed, but right now, it's feeling much more like a toy.)
I would prefer an app that is easily available from the store, but I can't find one.  I had not considered jailbreaking my ipad until now IF there is a way to easy handle files once thats done. Failing those, I would be happy to do it from a mac ( but the photos do NOT show up in itunes or iphoto - I looked) and would even consider a PC purchase if it is the most efficient way to manage files on my ipad. I do not want to wipe my ipad completely, as I have been running my 2 businesses on it, and this makes me concerned that even my iCloud backups, many other important files and photos could be incomplete or lost.
Can anyone help? Any ideas or suggestions? I am having a hard time believing Apple made it so easy to copy massive numbers of files onto an ipad, and offer no way to delete them -

Can you manually inside iTunes, under the 'Photo' tab to select none or something similar? So the next time you sync and update your iPod, those photos will be gone??
    Cheers

  • As fast as I delete photos from Camera Roll, the space is eaten up - what is causing this?

My photo is fit to burst so I've been deleting a bunch of pictures which are already backed up elsewhere (and also in the icloud)
However, as I'm going through and deleting hundreds of pictures, I see the freed up space only equivalent to about 200mb then suddenly the free space has gone.
I do NOT have wifi sync set up so what could be causing 'something' to eat up this newly freed up space?

I have indeed found that after deleting lots of different stuff to free up space on the phone, you do need to reboot it, then it detects the newly freed up space correctly - essential for all the new and seemingly much larger iOS 8 updates

  • How do you delete photo albums that have been syned to your iPhone when you don't know how they got there anyway?

Somehow when I synced my iPhone last week, it added albums of photos from I guess previous syncs and now I have all theses albums on my phone I do not want on my phone.  I have tried to figure out how to delete them but can't.  And it is taking up a lot of space.  How do I get them off my phone and make sure they don't sync on there again?

I didn't have that selected before because it never did it before but for some reason it has become checked.  I have unchecked it and, lo and behold, after syncing twice, they are gone from mu phone!!!  You totally rock!!  thank you so much!

  • How Do I Delete Photo Albums Synced From Previous Phones Off of IPhone

    Hello,
I've tried googling the answer but I guess my issue is a little too specific.
When I bought my I-phone the lady became impatient with me and instead of moving my photos for me she had me download a transfer app to move over my contacts and photo albums from my Android phone. I thought I woudl want to cherish all of these photos but, surprise surprise, I do not. Not only are these old albums ineditable by any means (including deletion), but they also take up a lot of space and do not pop up when I plug my phone into my computer. Only the photos taken by the I-phone appear and are removable (to my knowledge)
So, how do I get teh little buggers off?
    Thanks in advance!

Photos that you have taken on the phone are in the Camera Roll. The Camera Roll is managed differently. You need to also import photos from the Camera Roll to the computer for safe keeping, but doing as I said about syncing an empty folder will not affect your Camera Roll. If you restore however, it will delete your Camera Roll. You would need to import those photos to the computer for safe keeping, as a restore will delete everything from the device.
