Help Desk Knowledge Base & Training Video Screen Recording

Spiceworks has a knowledge base feature: http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Knowledge_Base_Overview
Although, I do not think it has the ability to host videos currently. You could host your videos on YouTube and link to them.
I have not started using the Spiceworks KB yet, as mine is in MediaWiki, which you may want to take a look at as well.

My company asked me to start thinking about the feasibility of implementing a knowledge base system for our internal technical support staff, and also one for our customers. With the customer's kb, they also want to have me create training videos on all of the different software packages we support.I have looked at using wordpress for a knowledge base, but it I would like something more designed at being a knowledge base rather than having to add in functionality. I have also looked at moodle which seems good for the courses with training videos, but seems also to not have a great knowledge base function. I could be missing something blatant as I only briefly played around in these systems.So....
Does anyone have any suggestions on a knowledge base system?
Also, any suggestions on screen recording software? Specifically those with tools...

    Hi,
It's a good idea, but currently it's not yet supported.
In Work Center, there is no predefined (nor a hidden) link shipped by SAP to access the Solution Database for key users.
With a future EhP for Solution Manager, you might get an integration of the Solution Database into the message processing Web UI.

  • Screen Recording Software (Video Screen Cap)

I have been googling for a bit and cannot seem to find any recent results for video screen recording tools for Linux, and certainly nothing on the Archlinux forums.
However, my research led me to believe that XVidCap is the most popular (as of about 3-4 years ago).  I was wondering if this is still the case or if there are other programs out there.  Also it's page on SourceForge shows the last update being about 4 years ago.
BTW- I am interested in all DE's and do not mind using a command line program.
    Thanks for your help!

I use recordmydesktop and love it! It also has GTK+ and Qt versions in the official repos (gtk-recordmydesktop/qt-recordmydesktop). The recordmydesktop program itself runs from the command line

  • Need recommendation for training video software and Flash

Can the experts here please recommend some product to record a computer screen session that then imports well into Flash?
I want to build training videos that record the screen session and my voice and am looking for a software product that can do this.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Jay

Thanks for the link but this did not meet our requirement and I hope that
some expert here in this forum can help. There are hundreds of
solutions out there but most are just screen session recorders without voice.
A couple have a feature to add voice seperately.  What we need is similar to
an actual video recording including voice where both go hand in hand with any
    seprate integration.
A video camera would not be practical, but certainly there must be some software
that would provide similar recording, both the screen session and sound?
This woule be a recording of the screen session with a person speaking into a microphone.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks again,
    Jay

  • Screen Recording Becomes Blurry

    Hi
Im using quicktime to do screen recordings and want to upload them to youtube.
Now the problem is when i upload the video to youtube when it is put on full screen the menu and words become slightly out of focus on the screen unless put in full HD.
Im using an iMac 21.5 inch.
    Can anybody help me
    Cheers
    Alex

After creating a screen recording using Quicktime (and the video is perfectly clear), I am trying to export to iMovie to edit the video more easily and to add an audio track. However, once the video is turned into an iMovie project, it is blurry. Still blurry after stabilization too.
Is this a minimum information guessing game? Is this a "full" or "partial" screen recording? What are the actual dimensions of the screen capture? Was the capture made using QT or a third-party app? Did you perform a manual or automatic "export" or simply import the screen capture file to iMovie? In what type iMovie project are you editing the exported or imported screen captured file? Why are you stabilizing a screen recording? (I.e., the stabilization routine further rescales the content.)
If I were merely to make a guess, It would be that your work flow is rescaling the content making it blurry in iMovie as compared to the original capture file.

  • Screen Recording with ffmpeg/recording mic and speaker output

I've been doing much research on this, and to be honest A/V editing is not my strong suit. I use a script I wrote two days ago to initiate both screen recording with ffmpeg and compiling the resulting mkv file with ffmpeg as well. The entire script can be seen here:
    #!/bin/bash
    #Create function to exit program
    function quite {
    if [ $ANSWER3 = "y" ]; then
    exit
    else
    exit
    fi
#Create function to start ffmpeg record
    function record {
    if [ $ANSWER = "y" ]; then
    ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1366x768 -i :0.0 -acodec aac -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -strict -2 -crf 0 -threads 0 $ORIGINALNAME
    else
    if [ $ANSWER = "n" ]; then
echo "Would you like to convert an existing input file? (y/n)"
    read ANSWER4
    if [ $ANSWER4 = "y" ]; then
    ffmpeg -i $ORIGINALNAME -vcodec libx264 -acodec aac -ab 128k -crf 22 -strict -2 -threads 0 $OUTPUTFILE
echo "The program will now exit"
    read
    exit
    else
    exit
    fi
    else
    exit
    fi
    fi
#Function to convert the recorded video
    function convert {
    if [ $ANSWER2 = "y" ]; then
    ffmpeg -i $ORIGINALNAME -vcodec libx264 -acodec aac -ab 128k -crf 22 -strict -2 -threads 0 $OUTPUTFILE
    else
    exit
    fi
#Change to Screen Record directory in My Videos
    cd ~/My\ Videos/Screen\ Record/
#Clear screen, and ask for input on what to name the origional file and the converted file
    clear
echo "Please, enter the name of your file followed by .mkv"
    read ORIGINALNAME
echo "You're files name is $ORIGINALNAME!"
echo "Please, enter name of the output file followed by .mp4"
    read OUTPUTFILE
echo "You're final file is $OUTPUTFILE!"
    clear
    #Prompt for continuing with recording
echo "Would you like to continue with screen recording?[y/n]"
    read ANSWER
    clear
    #Run the record function
    record
#Prompt for converting the created video
echo "Would you like to convert the file now?"
    read ANSWER2

    #Prompt to close command
    echo "Operation finished, all done."
echo "The program will now exit."

For simplicities sake, and because I don't think there's a real problem with my script but something else, here's the two ffmpeg scripts from the above script:
    recorder
    ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1366x768 -i :0.0 -acodec aac -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -strict -2 -crf 0 -threads 0 $ORIGINALNAME
    compiler
    ffmpeg -i $ORIGINALNAME -vcodec libx264 -acodec aac -ab 128k -crf 22 -strict -2 -threads 0 $OUTPUTFILE
Anyway, I have pavucontrol used to set the recording input after I've started recording. I want to be able to record the sound of my voice on my usb headset (which works fine) and be able to hear the sound of music or a youtube video I'm also playing during the recording. I've seen the loopback mixer from Alsamixer gui and the input, output, and record tabs in pulseaudio mixer. To be honest, after researching all this stuff in ffmpeg (which is a ocmplicated program) and whatever amix, dmix,  and some other programs I'm not sure what are, I have no idea where to go anymore. I'd continue researching, but I'm only getting more confused the further I go. I'm extremely willing to learn and will follow any instructions you give to help me out. I don't just want to do this one task, like how I learned enough to write a script file, I want to be able to tweak ffmpeg to suit my needs for any purpose it can be used for. This is my first step to being able to do that. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

OK, I've manages to learn enough about jack to not break my system and can work with that, Pulseaudio, and alsa is always installed. Is there a way I can create a virtual device that takes in the input from both the system sound and the headset mic that I can set as the audio input for ffmpeg? I've been looking online and I've got a headache at this point from trying. I have learned to use ffmpeg on a new level, but I still can't do what I want to do. (which is record sound from the headset mic and the system sound at the same time while using ffmpeg. I could make two audio files from each channel and record the screen with x11grab. then combine all that using another utility, but then I have to run three separate programs at the same time (which will eat up my cpu) and still run whatever I'm recording from my screen. Something that will do all this for me would be much appreciated.

  • I Want to Record my Computer Screen to make training videos? Wheres the APP

Is there an App for that? I just need something easy to use. If not any suggestions for a good program? I have the new macbook air and im a PC guy slowly trying to learn Mac....So far im very impressed. Thank you to anyone to can help out.

    Hi,
I haven't seen a Mac App Store app for that but you can use QuickTime 10.0 for screen recording.
Check your Applications folder for QuickTime 10.0 as it may already be installed. The icon looks like this.
You may also have QuickTime 7 installed but that's for the player, not for recording.
Launch QuickTime 10. From the menu bar click File / New Screen Recording

  • Capturing Screen Video with Quicktime Screen Recording

I've just found that Quicktime can record everything on the screen. This is very useful as I want to produce some training videos that are based on web-browsing. The problem is that I want to be able to zoom in on parts of the screen and I saw elsewhere a trick that invloved using Universal Access to Zoom in with either the mouse wheel or Keyboard. The problem is that these zooms don't appear to be recorded in Quicktime. Is that correct, or am I missing something?
    many thanks

Can you help with this from an Oct 2010 post?  I'm having the same trouble in OS 10.6.8--random dropouts in QT Screen Recordings using QT Player 10.0 (131).  The original poster said the problem only happens when recording sound, but I need sound.  If you can help, please email me at blockard @@ iname . com.  Thanks!
"Sometimes it records fine and I end up with a full recording, sometimes the middle is gone, sometimes just the end. The file size doesn't seem to matter; I have some good recordings that are nearly 500MB, and some that failed when they are only 30MB (and I have well over 300GB free)."

  • QuickTime screen recording is stuck on finishing. Please help?

    QuickTime Issue:
I was making a screen recording for a video tutorial and when I finished, it stuck itself on "finishing." I haven't been able to force quit it in the dock or in Activity Monitor. I cannot shut my computer off or restart it. I have a 21.5' iMac running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3. My processor is 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I have 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory.

  • Screen Recording Video in QTX Not Smooth/Jerky

Hi. I have been experimenting with the Screen Record function in the Snow Leopard QT version and after I stop the video, the playback is a bit jerky, not smooth frame rate and sometimes the screen flashes on and off to black for about a second. The video records smooth until I check the playback.
What I have tried doing is; play a song in iTunes ver 9.0.2, turn on the Visualizer function, hit the Screen record button and record 2-3 minutes of video.
Any idea on what I might try to correct the glitch? There doesn't seem to be a Preferences that I can find like in QT 7. Not sure how to change settings in QTX.
Thanks for any help. I have a white MacBook, 2.2 GHz, 4GB RAM, 160 GB HD OSX 10.6.1.
    Steve

If  you require interaction you would have to use a full remote desktop solution as Skype doesn't have the functionality.  Teamviewer offers this as well as a built-in proprietary recording option but natively converting those files to standard formats usually resorts to using tons of hard drive space requiring additional compression and conversion time to get the size down.
If you want to use Skype and record the desktop session including audio, the best way would be to use 3rd party screen capturing software.  This can you can record the whole screen or just parts of it.  There are also 3rd party add-ons that will capture the individual Skype streams but I find screen capturing software to be more universal and customizable.

  • After exporting screen recording, just shows a black video.

I've recorded an hour and a half of screen recorded footage. it plays back just fine. It exports fine too! the problem is, once I try to open it after exporting it to desktop,iTunes etc., it doesn't have audio or video. Just a black screen for the whole duration. it'll still play, but it plays all black, no audio... Ultimately, I just want it on my third generation iPad. It wont play back with iTunes, on my iPad or even with Preview. I've tried exporting it in iPad format and in normal 720P mode.  so .m4v and .mov .My iMac is 1080P so I should be able to export a 720P screen recording. I was thinking that was the problem. it wont show video to a 480P video when I exported it 720P.. i didn't wanna export 1080P cause it was like 9 GB! any help please? i've messed around with this for days.

    Hi ChuckSott
Some questions to help us help you!
    # Which websites are causing this problem? A few examples would be grand!
    # Does this problem occur in FF35 for Android?
    # If you could post a screenshot of the tab's full display being blacked out that would be super helpful
    # Have you tried temporarily uninstalling all the add-ons in Tools -> Add-ons? Sometimes add-ons break Firefox!
    # Finally what version of Android OS are you using? (ice cream sandwich 4.0, jellybean 4.1-4.3, kitkat 4.4? etc)

  • Quicktime Player unresponsive while screen recording. Help!

Hello. I often upload youtube videos with QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro X. 2 days ago, I noticed a problem with quicktime player. Whenever I try to screen record, about 2 mins and 30 secs of recording, QuickTime Player becomes unresponsive. I am running on the new version of OSX Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Thanks for concerning your time to help me fix this problem.

Thanks for the tip on the stop record function icon on the top menu bar.  Its disappointing that the new program with Mavericks doesn't keep the the player control box open when you are recording.  This may have been in response to some people complaining that the box can get in the way of the recording, although elsewhere it is said that even though it looks like it gets in the way it actually won't show up in the recording.
Regardless of your preference, I think some of us would ideally like to be able to see the window at times so that we can verify that the sound levels are coming through (its a royal pain to record an hour and find out later that no sound was recorded) and to potentially pause recording to remove sections where material is occuring that is of no interest (ie they took a break or need to look for something).  The stop button literally stops the recording and no longer gives you the option to RESUME.
The only thing that I found that does work although it is VERY CLUMSY is that if you attempt to quit   Quicktime the window with all the controls will show up.  If you hit cancel that window will stay there and allow you to do what you want.  Now I suspect all the messages that say DO YOU WANT TO END RECORDING are likely to show up in your recording, but I guess you can trim that out.  What would make a lot of sense is for them to have the option to view the control box in the  View pull down menu.
Oh well.  Any one else found any other ways to manage the quicktime screen recordings without being able to access the control window?

  • How do I change the settings in quick time player to screen record video using less hard drive space?

how do I change the settings in quick time player to use less hard drive space when performing a screen record? When I screen record a video lets say from vimeo, QTP seems to use a lot of hard drive space.  Please help.  Are there settings some where to adjust to slim down the video size? Thanks for your input.

I just did a short SR test, first I exported to 480p, then I saved the file. Now I have 2 files one 11.9mb (export) and the other 42.8mb (save). I then took the save file and performed an export on it to 480p.  Guess what, it saved at 11.9mb.  So it seemed to save me 3/4 of the space.  Lets see what happens with a 17 minute SR.  Thanks!
Any suggestions on getting the sound louder with the SR?
For anyone else ever seeing this post, for me the best was using an external speaker whether wired or bluetooth, facing the left side of the computer where the internal mic hole is.   Good Luck!

  • Screen recording-video pauses while audio continues

When I make a screen recording, the audio and video are playing perfectly (I use soundflower for the audio). However, when I go to watch my screen recording, it starts off like normal but about 30 seconds into the video, the video pauses while the audio continues playing like normal. Any reason as to why this is happening? I'm not just recording my screen but also a video from a website, don't know if that makes a difference.
    Thanks

I am having the same issue I posted this elsewhere
I have a Mid 2010 Mac Mini Server (full specs below) and very recently it has developed a strange problem.  I'll be watching something on iTunes and the video will stop but the audio continues.  If I move the mouse and click on the screen the video suddenly plays very fast untill it catches up with the audio and then for a while it will play normally.  I can go through this process 3-4 times an hour before I give up and stream to my iPad instead.
in the beginning it only happened when I was using the HDMI cable but recently it happens when the mini VGA adaptor is plugged in too.
its beginning to be very frustrating so any help would be truly appreciated.
    thanks
