Help! Desktop icons gone, no right click ... and Nautilus crashes!
I have a fully upgraded Gnome-based system, and all of a sudden my desktop icons disappeared, clicking on the desktop does nothing, and every time I use Nautilus it crashes with the error (from bug report):

It doesn't seem to be an options or configuration thing, maybe more like some sort of corruption? The Panels are fine. I have checked desktop and Nautilus options using Gconf and tried recreating ~/.gconf etc. The only suspicious occurrence was when, in the middle of a pacman -Syu, I was thrown back to the GDM login prompt. I just logged in again and did another pacman -Syu and everything seemed okay.
By the way, running Nautilus as root does show root's desktop okay, but Nautilus still crashes.
Any help would be most welcome for a very frustrating problem!
PS: Forgot to say that I'd tried reinstalling quite a few Gnome things and Nautilus, with no effect.
Also, the problem persists after restarting X, logon, reboot, power-off ...

Got it! I can get a crash with this:

I'm going to leave a comment in the bug.
And in fact, I was mucking around with .desktop files when I think my icons went AWOL.
Anyone else brave enough to risk losing their desktop to try this out?!

When I double click my icon on the desktop nothing happens, I mean nothing, but if I right click and then click open it will open my web browser. I'm using FF 18 recently updated from FF17, and I did have some slowness until I reset firefox, but that seems to have taken care of the slowness.

Help with right clicking and downloads
how do i save a picture using safari, when i use firefox i right click and select "save as" but on safari, that option isnt available. also, when im downloading something on firefox, off of like rapidshare or megaupload or sendspace, if i click it, it opens a new box and there are options of opening it, or saving it somewhere on your computer, but when i use safari, and i click on a download it just opens the content on a new page, and when i click file or right click, saving it to my computer isnt available either. help?
I'm totally new to Mac myself but try holding down the control button then hit the central 'click' button (what ever it is called) that seems to open up the 'right click' display with the 'save as' option.

I have been trying to open itunes that has already been installed. But, the thing is it never opens and when i do right click and trouble shoot also, it doesnt open. I dont whats wrong with itunes and my comp is 64 bit windows 7. Can somebody please help

I need to burn a cd from itunes. There is no burn option...at all. I've tried right-clicking and file command. Please help
I have Windows 7 on a Dell. Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2). Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode. This has worked for me. I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc. These ideas did not work. Compatability mode works.

How do I stop right click save and also dragging of images from my site - I am not bothered about screen shots because at the enbd of the day - its just a screen shot.
Is there any way to do this on Muse or is there some code that I have to insert - I have seen a few disscusssions where they say you have to insert code - though nothing which really states what code and where to put it.
Also can any one explain meta data to me please and if I should apply it to my images as an extra precaution?

I am running Vista and installed a new version of firefox yesterday plus I messed around with trying to block some obnoxious advertising pop up windows. Now I can't open links and must drag them to the browser bar or right click and "open in a new window". How do I fix this? I tried to restart Firefox but it didn't help. thanks!
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to open a new window and see if that window works.

Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL. However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Always before when I wanted to click on a new website or a location I found searching google for example, the new website or place I found ALWAYS POPPED UP IN A NEW TAB AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT me having to right click and say 'open in new tab'. For some reason it is not doing that anymore and when I click on an item it is coming up in the tab I am currently in. How can I set FF to automatically open a new tab whenever I click on a new site like it did before? This is driving me nuts since I am not a computer person at all and had it working the way I was used to before. Please help me fix it back.

Opening a new link in a tab (contr+click or right click and open in new tab) causes ff to lose scroll position in first tab or main window, like google.
This does not happen when opening in a new window (shift+click).
It was never a problem in older versions. I now have ff 3.6.17. I' afraid to install ff4 because everytime i do so (install e new version) something i liked dissapears or good add ons dont work anymore!
I also don't like the fact that more and more of the adress barr is beïng used for crap i don't need. I'm a visual handicap and need all the space i can, just to read.

I am using firefox 6 and if I right click and click on open in new window both my windows hang

The machine becomes slow and firefox does not respond till I close the new window.
(I have not tried if it helps if I close the main window).
the new page does not load and if there is a tab that is loading on the old window it does not load as well.Did you look in Customize (View > Toolbars > Customize) to see if your "New Tab" is there and should be moved to a toolbar.
You are so not up to date with Firefox that you might as well stay with what you have until it breaks. Make sure you maintain backups of your profile and all personal data to external media, preferably an external hard drive. -
Links on websites will not open unless I right click and open in new tab/ window
This just started yesterday. Whenever I go to a website I am unable to just click on a link on the page and be directed. When the mouse goes over the link the info appears in the bottom bar but when I click nothing happens. In order to navigate to the link I have to right click and open in a new tab or page.
Please help on fixing this issue.

Magic Mouse-Right click and left click reversed?
Hello! Thanks in advance for any info you can provide regarding my problem. My wireless keyboard and magic mouse recently has been disconnecting from Bluetooth. A few days ago they both quit, and after a call to apple tech support, I tried everything, including re-loading my system software(Mac Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6.2) When my keyboard and mouse finally came back up, when I de-selected the right click, the mouse wouldn't click. The cursor moves around, but no click. I have to plug in another mouse and select right click, and then the mouse will click, but the right and left click are reversed.
At one point, when plugging in an old wired mouse, I was able to select whether I wanted to enable the right or left click, and when I selected left click, the mouse quit clicking. I can't seem to get thatoption now with a wired mouse, and that might not even be related.
Can anyone help! I'd like to get my Magic mouse working correctly!
