Help Desperately Needed to restore Photoshop 10 catalog to Windows 8 computer and PSE 11

I am trying to backup my Photoshop Elements 10 catalog from my old computer running Windows 7 and restore to my new computer running Windows 8 and Photoshop Elements 11.  I reconnected missing files, optimized and repaired the catalog, then repaired and re-indexed visual similarity date.  I backed up to the hard drive on the old computer, copied the files to the external hard drive, copies the files from the external hard drive to the desktop of the new computer.  From there I opened PSE 11 organizer and tried to restore.  When the restore is almost complete I get the following error: "error encountered while restoring.  It's recommended that you contact the disc drive manufacturer and upgrade to the latest available firmware for your specific disc drive before trying again.".  I also had disabled the virus protection on both computers.  I have contacted the external hard drive manufacturer and they are confident the problem is not with the external hard drive.  I have spent countless hours on chat with Adobe Technical Chat.   I have done everything that has been suggested to fix the problem and I still get the same error message.   They referred me to their 800 number for paid technical support and I was on hold for a total of 4 1/2 hours and after being trransferred several times no one came back on the line to help.  I have an open case with them and they still have not returned my calls.   I even tried using the same backup catalog file and restored to another PC running Windows 7 (and Elements 10) and it worked.  Why can't I restore the catalog to Windows 8?   Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Please help, desperately need to get iTunes back on my computer

Hello all, I will make this as short as possible.
I just installed a new, larger and faster HD on my Dell Inspiron 5150. It is the same brand as the other and is working fine. I use backup software and retored my HD to the same condition that it was in before the change. I started iTunes and retrieved my Podcasts and even loaded a CD on it. I was in the process of backing up the HD and I wanted to load the podcasts and CD onto my iPod. It would not connect to iTunes no matter what I did. I stopped the backup and it still would not connect.
I decided to re-install iTunes, went to the Apple site, downloaded the program and it would not install over the old version. I then deleted the older version using add/remove programs and tried to install. When I click on <<Run>>, I get a flash on the screen of Quicktime and then nothing. I then deleted Quicktime from the HD and the same thing kept happening.
I came here and saw a post about Norton so I disabled that and again the same. Then I saw a post about installing Quicktime first, same result. I can see <<quicktime>> and a progression bar for only an instant each time. I am rebooting between all these tries by the way.
Can anyone PLEASE help me to get my iTunes back. I do not have a disc. Can I buy one at Best Buy?? Everything is running fine but it just will not begin the installation.
If there is a solution on this board already, please point me to it. I need iTunes, I don't think I can function without it?? what could have gone wrong??? Again Please, PLEASE help me out.
Thanks so much in advance. I will keep searching for answers in the meantime.
    Mike (PLEASE HELP)

If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Upgrading computer and PSE.  If I backup my catalogs in PSE6 can I restore with PSE12?

I am upgrading computer and PSE. Old computer XP.  New computer Win7 64 bit.   If I backup with PSE6 on the old machine, can I restore the catalog and images on the new computer with PSE12?  Or do I need to install PSE6 on the new machine, restore the backup, then start PSE12 and let it do the conversion?  Thanks.

You should be able to restore it in working order, providing an oops doesn't happen. If an oops happens, contact Microsoft to see if you can get your activation code from them.

And my second question, would it be best to stay at Snow Leopard for me, or should I upgrade my OS?
While Apple hasn't officially stated that they are no longer supporting Snow Leopard, it has been a long time since there was an OS update.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install Mavericks, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

  • I need to install Photoshop to a school computer

I need to install photoshop to a school computer. I have found it is imposible to install CC from online becuase the computer blocks installs from online. So what I did was bring a portable version of photoshop from home to school. I doint have to install the version, so it worked better. But i was never able to get it to work fully. When I launched the app it told me that the comoputer didnt allow registry editing, and it wouldnt work giving me error 16. So my question is if there are any loopholes I cloud go thorught to get it to work on a computer I cant edit the registry or anything important, maybe make it work only from the flash drive or hard drive.

You probably need to work this out with the system administrator at your school.  There are reason for having these types of restrictions in place and it usually means approval/adjustment is needed to make an allowance for installing one's own software.

  • Hi, I am using my icloud on my iphone but am unable to find it on my mac book pro. It's not under my system preferences like it shows under the setup. Can I download it again? Or something. I just need to backup some files on my computer and am unable.

Hi, I am using my icloud on my iphone but am unable to find it on my mac book pro. It's not under my system preferences like it shows under the setup. Can I download it again? Or something. I just need to backup some files on my computer and am unable.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Can you cancel Adobe Photoshop CS6 from one computer and put it on another?

Can you cancel Adobe Photoshop CS6 from one computer and put it on another computer?

Yes. You have to deactivate it on one computer and then you can install it and activate it on another. Technically, your license allows you to have Photoshop CS6 installed and activated on two computers, you just can't use both at the same time.

  • Outlook 2007 backup help desperately needed

I am moving in less than a week and I desperately need to back up my Outlook to an external drive because my desktop computer
is going on the moving van. I added the Outlook backup add-in today, but it is not working. I have it set (under options) to save to K:\Outlook\outlook backup.pst When I exit Outlook, I get this message: The J:\Outlook\folder does not exist. The file might
have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?
How can I get it to stop looking for a J drive? I don't have anything in my J drive, so even if I choose yes to create it, it is unable
to create the Outlook folder and the system cannot find the path specified.
Steps I have tried so far, which have failed:
    1. Reboot the computer
    2. Disable and re-enable add-ins
    3. Delete and re-install the add-in
    4. Try saving to a different external drive

    Hi,
Change the backup location of a personal folder to any other drive apart from J:\drive as it doesn’t exist in your computer.
To change the backup location of a personal folder file:-
    1. On the File menu, click Backup.
    2. Click Options.
    3. In the Backup these personal folders files list, click the file you want to change the backup location for, and then change the location in
the Backup the file selected above to this location box.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click Save Backup.
I hope the information is helpful.
