Help diagnose a blocked site

Hi.
I'm trying to put a weather widget on our intranet site and for people in our "Restricted Internet" group we have a URL category list called "Allowed Domains".  Basically I put the domain in .accuweather.com and I still cannot get this widget to load for a test user in the ldap group "Restricted Internet".
So the next step I did was go to Web Tracking and look up the user name, website and blocked for the transaction type.  For some reason there are two results which contradict each other.
In the Disposition column it says Block - AVC, however in the Website column it correctly shows URL CATEGORY: Allowed Domains.  This is a contradiction because if it is an "allowed domain" it should not be blocked.  Any idea why this site would possibly be blocked?  I did have the weather.com widget on our intranet site and that worked fine, however the accuweather widget shows a little more information.
Here is a clip from the Website column in Web Tracking:

Good call on the Flash Video.
I SSH to the Ironport and played around with grep.  Found this, which looks to be flash video.  Oddly I didn't even think of it as flash video, as myself (in the very unrestricted IT group) can see the weather widget and there's obviously no video.  However one of the pages calls an swf from another server... it must be the way they dynamically draw the sun or clouds in the forcast.

  • Help diagnosing connection to sites on particular ...

    Hi,
Since about the 26th of May my connection to sites hosted on a particular server has been incredibly slow and sometimes non-existant.  I've been tearing my hair out, as it seems impossible to get BT to do anything about it that is outside their script of "check your wiring", etc.
This problem shows on my PC and a laptop in the same house.  I have seen the owner of the sites load them up on his own premises, and they load quickly.  Additionally, I've had BT "technical support" load them up to try to prove to them that the web server is not the problem, and they load very quickly.
It's my strong belief that neither my PC(s) or the web server are at fault, so believing it to be a network issue I've obtained the following pathping:

...yet I'm not convinced that this reveals much, as I get 100% loss figures on the BBC web site as well, and that loads instantly...
Would anyone like the challenge of assisting me to diagnose this further?  I've come to the realisation that BT aren't going to do it, so I'm going to have to personally find out exactly what the problem is, and then try to contact the exact person who will have to do the work to fix it.  It's either that, or move back to Sky...
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Every time I've tried to open my hotmail today, an H&R Block site pops up trying to get me to buy their tax prep software and I can't find a way around it. This is driving me crazy. Please help.

Every time I've tried to open my hot mail today the page is usurped by H&R Block, trying to get me to buy their tax prep software and I don't see a way to close it out.

No, it doesn't come up in any other browser. The interesting thing this morning was I had inadvertently doubleclicked my hotmail icon and two windows came up, one over the other. The first one had the H&R Block site that is driving me crazy, which I closed, but the second one had my dear old emails without the dreaded H&R Block takeover. I haven't been able to send a picture of the page, but it looks like an H&R Block web site and lists the various tax prep software and prices. You can navigate all around the site, too.

  • The list of blocked sites is empty.

Have used Firefox for years. There should be a healthy list of blocked sites (exceptions to cookies).
Privacy: always use private browsing mode - ticked
Accept cookies from sites - ticked
Accept third party cookies - always
Exceptions - shows as blank (no sites listed)
Cookies (only Google, coz I'm using it - I always clear out after session).
Reason for question: wanted to check that I hadn't got a site blocked, as this site repeatedly times out - I can't respond quickly enough to the ALLOW button when I get the "Firefox prevented ...." message.
    Help!

Current Firefox versions do not show the Cookies in the Cookie Manager when you are in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.<br />
In Private Browsing mode all cookies are session cookies that expire at the end of the session (all PB mode windows closed) or when you exit Firefox.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Firefox Help page on "blocking cookies" is incomplete and refers to a "tool" menu that does not exist

    The following page:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Blocking%20cookies?s=blocking+cookies&as=s
is incomplete - please see as example:
"Viewing a list of blocked sites
To see a list of sites that you have blocked from setting cookies: "
There is no text after the colon.
Also the same page refers to selecting a "Tools" menu from the Firefox window(whatever that is?) - in order to get "Page info" so that cookies can be blocked. I can't the Tools menu - clicking on the Firefox (at top left hand of page) does not give this option.
I was looking at this page in order to find out how to permanently block specific cookie sites. I block them when they appear when I have set "accept 3rd party cookes to "keep until" - "ask me every time" - and I also have "clear history when Firefox closes" set. However the blocked addresses are deleted when I come out of Firefox - this is very irritating as there are some cookies I wish to permanently block. This means that every time I open a web site I have to click on "deny" cookie several times - even thought they are the same ones I have blocked in a differenrt session. I prefer to choose what I block as some sites really don't work without their personal cookies - usually to support subscriber log in (e.g to log in to the "New Scientist" site)so "private browsing" doesn't really help and as you have mentioned elsewhere blocking 3rd party cookies can also cause problems
    yours
    H.Ruddy
Thank you for "Do Not Track" it's a good start although it will have no effect if the sites ignore it.

Looks like a problem with show for that is only specified for Firefox 3.5 for that section.

  • Block Site 1.1.8 is not blocking websites entered into Blacklist

I am using Firefox 31.0 on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I added an add-on called Block Site because I keep getting these very aggravating windows opening that I haven't visited and don't want to see such as adcash.com and gacetainformativa.com. Block Site seemed pretty easy to use and I entered these website into the Blacklist. The websites continued to show up. So I entered them again leaving off the first and last letters and putting in asterisks for wildcards. They are still showing up as full screens. I will get 3 to 5 of these websites opening at one time and for no apparent reason. Does anyone have suggestions for what I need to do to block these unwanted sites? Thanks for your help.

I've been using the .Mac service since it was known as iTools and was "free".
I only made about ten pages using Homepage (only two with iWeb) since I'm not a big fan of bloated template generated page code.
I've been adding my own "home brewed" pages directly to my iDisk Sites folder for years and I've even discovered a method to "borrow" Apple's hit counter to use on these pages.
My point is that you can make changes to the html code to add things to iWeb created pages but your changes will be removed the next time you Publish.
A simple workaround is to drag your iWeb page folder (iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb) to your iDisk Sites folder. Then make your edits to the page code.
The URL will change from web.mac.com/username/iWeb/foldername to homepage.mac.com/username/foldername

  • I need help diagnosing why my Macbook pro is crashing my internet?

Hi, I need help diagnosing a problem with my macbook pro early 2011.  For the past two weeks all of a sudden my internet was crashing and really slow. Finally I was getting so fed up I called my internet provider and we ruled out that it isnt the cable modem or router.  When I turned my macbook off everything was working fine and all my tablets and apple TV was streaming fine with the speeds I pay for.  I've already went to the genius bar and they did a clean install of maverick.  After the clean install the internet worked for one day and the next day when I got home at night it stopped working. Went to the genius bar once more and took my router and the problem was encountering the same at the store we reseted the router and everything worked fine again.  When I got home I reseted the router setup up with new ssisd and same problem internet crashing. Finally I decided to make another account and the internet was working fine again. Before going to my second trip to the genius bar I made a second account which was working good with good internet speeds, but I still decided to go in cause I don't want to have to have multiple accounts since I'm the only user.  Right now the only way the internet isn't crashing is using another account rather than the administer account. Please help cause I've already went to the apple store twice and feel like I'm at the end of the road and never going to fix the problem

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List

  • Safari will not work due to blocked site

I am trying to use my Safari browser a blocked site keeps showing up...genio.com???

The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
