  • HELP! After updating Ipod hasnt acted the same

I updated my Itouch after itunes instructed me to, I wasnt really payin attn and i reset my itouch somehow by accident i guess. I looked at it and all my apps and music were gone everything was reset, now my apps i could get back but my music since most of my songs came from another computer I lost. My itouch is not acting the same its slower, ill press something and itll go there 20 sec later, it freezes up, my pandora app skips, it never did any of that before that update completely screwed up my itouch. i've tried restarting it, resetting it, need help please

The old iPod updater software is how you will fix all of this. Unfortunately, because iTunes 7 thinks that it's better and more up to date, it will prevent you from opening the old version of the software if you still have it on your machine.
So first of all, uninstall iTunes 7.0. (You do not have to remove your library information, just the software.) Restart the computer.
If you still have the old iPod updater, try it and see if it runs. If it does, read on. If not, skip to the next paragraph. So, if it does run, simply hit Restore and you can go back to a previous version of the firmware. I believe that Apple discontinued the firmware page since releasing iTunes 7. Look around some search engines like Google if you really want the latest firmware.
Take out the installation CD that came with your iPod. Run it and it should install the old iPod updater along with iTunes 6.x. iTunes 6.x cannot run since iTunes 7 changed your libary's formatting, but that will not be a problem. Run the Restore process in the old updater and it should be alright for you to start loading your stuff on again without problems.
Since iTunes 7 reformatted your libary listing, iTunes 6 will no longer work. However, you can still use it by reinstalling iTunes 7. Just make sure you do the following.
TO KEEP THE SAME THING FROM HAPPENING AGAIN
iTunes 7 is actually alright. It's the updater part of it that will screw up your iPod.
    - iTunes 7 will tell you that a new iPod software version is available when you open it.
    - Check the "Never Ask Again" box and click Don't Install.
    - When you sync your iPod to your computer, NEVER touch the Version section when you're changing your iPod's settings. Everything else is alright to work with.
    - Everything will work fine as long as you never update the iPod's software via iTunes, at least until the programmers can fix this issue in a later release or patch.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Help~How to disable Adobe Updater in Reader 8.*/9.*?

Does anyone here know how to disable the Adobe Updater by registry or Group Policy?(if possible)
I won't like to manually disable them by "Help" -> "Check for updates"
The following registry key only works in 6.*/7.*
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater]
    "bShowInstCompDialog"=dword:00000000

I don't know where that preference item is stored. But if it's in the registry, I would do the following if I were in your situation.
    *export the entire registry
*set the no-update preference, according to Aaron's suggestion
*export the entire registry again (to a different name)
*compare the two files (e.g. with windiff); that should show you what's changed in the registry

  • Can't update iPod, please help!!!

Normally when you click on "file" in iTunes, one option is "update iPod" but it is pale (can't select it). I can't update it so please reply if you can help!!
Also, yesterday it wouldn't let me disconnect/eject the iPod, and also every now and again a message saying something about a "corrupt file" comes up.
If you can help me with any of these things. PARTICULARLY the updating one then please reply ASAP!!
    thanks!

Try this link put. It has some good basic information on how to update your ipod. Try to manually update your ipod, the instructions for it are in there. When you are talking about the smart list i think you are refering to the smart playlist. What you can do is set a playlist that has different options that will automatically update the playlist. Say for instance everything that you rate as five stars you can make a playlist that will take all of the songs that have five stars and put it on that playlist without you having to do anything.
Now about the issue of the do not disconnect. I had the same issue with mine when I had first got my ipod. If you look in itunes at the very top in the little dropdown menus there will be one called preferences. Now with your ipod connected click on the ipod tab. There should be an option in there that will let you listen to music etc while it is charging on the computer. The default setting for when it is hooked up to a computer is to not play music or anything until it is unplugged.
I hope that will take care of your questions, if not let me know and i'll see what i can find for you and if it did work if you don't mind let me know.

  • HT4623 HELP with Updating iPod 4.2.1 to iOS5

Help!!!  My nephew has an iPod, 4.2.1 version, which I am trying to update to iOS 5 so he can download games.  The directions on the Apple website say to go to "Settings," then "General" and then "Software Update".  But there is no "Software Update"  listed under "General" on his iPod. I have been searching the Apple website & trying different things with no luck!  Can someone help me?

His iPod generation cannot be upgraded past 4.2.1. See:

If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. • Updated ipod with no music-now music gone! Help!

I put my 1 year old 20g iPod into my brand new eMac, and iTunes wouldnt automatically update songs. The "update iPod" was clicked, and ALL THE SONGS went from my ipod. Now I cant find them/recover them, etc. Help!

Bummer. iPods are designed to download from a computer. It asked you if that's what you wanted to do. If you said yes, it downloaded an empty library to your full ipod, erasing everything.
To see if they are really gone, mount your iPod in Disk Mode. Open the Terminal App and type "cd[space]" - then drag the iPod icon from the desktop to the terminal window.
    Type: ls -la
You will get a listing of the iPod directory.
Double click on the directory "iPod_Control" and copy ([command] C).
Type: "cd[space]" and then Paste - [command] P [Note: that way is faster for me than typing "cd iPod_Control"]
    Hit return.
    Type: ls -la
    Type "cd Music"
    Type: ls -la
At this point, you will want to be lookig at a lot of Directories: F00, F01, F02, etc - that would be a good thing. That means your music is on your iPod and you didn't really tell iTunes to overwrite your Music Directory with a new empty Library.
If your Music Directory is empty - sorry - I hope you have your files on a different computer somewhere. If not, then drag out the CDs - they were legal copies, right?

    2. locked up itunes with a beach ball.
    3. Force quit of itunes KP'd imac.
    4. No ipod on forced re-start.
    5. No disk mode, apple logo stays on till battery deaad.
    6. Does not work on other computer in houshold either.

Any suggestions, I am out my ipod and wont even trust a new one on this last update of iTunes.

I'll give it a try, but:
I have to charge it again. When I plug it in, the disk spins and I can't shut it off.
So I will leave it plugged in over night and then look at it in the morning. I don't think it is resetting. I hold down the menu and pause keys and the disk spins down, the Apple goes away for a second and then it spins back up and clicks, keeps on doing that.
It is the only thing it will do now. Spins and clicks every ten seconds or so. Nothing else. Not recognized by anything of any sort as a disk either. Not even in disk untility.
    What constitutes a "Thump"?

  • IPod Restore did not fix issue...can't update iPod

Apologies for posting this as a "reply" earlier in the night...I'm new to this online help forum thingy. It truly belongs here as a "question," so here goes:
I have used my iPod without issue for over a year. Suddenly, I have encountered some freakish problems. The iPod connects to iTunes, but nothing happens after that (no transfer of songs...just freezes in "Do Not Disconnect" mode). I have taken the following steps today:
    1) Tried resetting iPod. No dice.
    2) Downloaded new 2006-03-23 updater.
    3) Downloaded new v6.04 iTunes.
    4) Uninstalled iTunes v6.03 and restarted PC, as prompted.
    5) Installed new 2006-03-23 updater and restarted PC, as prompted.
    6) Installed iTunes v6.04 and restarted PC, as prompted.
    7) Shut down iTunes.
    8) Ran Updater...performed "Restore." (The "Update" button was greyed out and has been ever since I installed the new Updater 2006-03-23).
    9) Connected to iTunes...began updating songs, left PC to let it download the 3000+ songs while I ate dinner, etc. Left during the transfer of song #13 of 3000+.
    10) Came back to an error message that I don't recall.
    11) Closed iTunes, re-ran Updater.
    12) Tried iTunes again...iPod showed up, but was given the error message "The iPod could not be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to."
    13) Disconnected and reconnected; tried all other firewire ports. No dice. Firewire card in PC is functional.
    14) Received this error message: "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings."
    15) Closed iTunes and re-ran Updater. Again.
    16) Opened iTunes. No dice. Again. This time, it didn't even prompt me to customize the name of my iPod...it just connected to iTunes and sat there with the default name "IPOD." Nothing happened for several minutes, so I ejected the iPod via iTunes.
    17) Tried Disk Mode. Nothing.
On the bright side, the iPod is now fully charged...it seems the power aspect is working and there is some data transfer capability. Nothing else is wrong with the PC...I have encountered no other usability issues...I run AdAware, Spybot, and have the full McAfee Suite (all updated with the latest detection/definition files). Running Win XP Pro and using U2 Spec. Ed. iPod.
I quit for the night, but tomorrow is a new day. Help!!!

Thanks...forgot about the anti-virus/firewall angle. That was helpful because it allowed me to rule out the possibility of those security programs interfering with any Apple program components.
Uninstalled iTunes and the iPod Updater...reinstalled with firewall and antivirus disabled. Restored iPod with firewall and antivirus disabled. Then tried syncing the iPod with iTunes...still had issues.
Restored again in disk mode with antivirus and firewall disabled (modem off the whole time, of course). The update quit on song #1777 out of 3600+. Still not working properly. Aaaargggh!!! I'm thinking a trip to the Genius Bar is in order if I can't get a resolution here...problem is, the Apple store is a half hour away. Any other thoughts?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, got error 1602

I was halfway thru updating ipod touch software, i walked away from computer and when i came back there was an error "1602" and a picture on my ipod (requesting to connect to itunes?) but WILL NOT WORK AT ALL!
What's going on?  Seems like a lot of people are having similar problems all at the same time.

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
