Windows - No Disk Error - Please help!
    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    * Lenovo T-61p
    * Windows XP Pro, SP 3
    * HP Photosmart 8250 printer (with nothing plugged into the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer)
I am getting the following error:
    Windows - No Disk
Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x75CE023C
    0x84C40C84 0x75CE023C
I have done a lof experimenting and thru process of  elimination, and believe I have determined that this only happens when the HP Photosmart 8250 printer is plugged in to the USB slot of the computer.
I can stop it from happening by safely removing hardware, and removing the drive that the 8250 creates on your computer when you plug it in.  In my case, this is drive E.  I'm guessing if there was something in the the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer, that's what those would be, but I don't those use those functions of the printer.
I understand there is more at work than simply the printer, because I did not used to get this error, so some software changed as well, that is scanning all ports, and finding a drive that has no disk, and producing the error.
A simple google search finds a lot people all over the world having this problem, and are solving it in different ways, because the suspected source is different: Norton, HP, etc.
I have tried everything I have read, and the only thing that works was my own idea, of manually safely removing the drive the printer creates each time I plug in the printer.
Anyone every any better, more permanent solutions?  Or know what the real root of the problem is?  What is scanning all the drives and being showing an error message because it found an empty drive?
    Thanks and Happy Holidays/New Year!

I've been getting the same error on my 4G nano for the past week. I've had my nano for about a month and the first few weeks were fine. Tried it on 2 different computers (Vista and XP) and same problem. Tried it on a 3rd (XP) and it started ok. Problem started coming back after a day.
I was able to find a quick fix though. I noticed that sometimes the message says something like "iexplore.exe... no disk..." even if I don't even use IE. What I do is end iexplore.exe on task manager before running iTunes and syncing my nano. I don't get the error whenever I do this, but one drawback is that the contents of my nano suddenly pops up in a window - even when disk use is not enabled.
I've reset/restored my nano dozens and dozens of times to make sure it's clean. Leads me to believe it's a driver issue. Either that or I have a friggin malware problem I can't seem to find.
I'll be posting updates every now and then. I'm no expert so I'm hoping an Apple expert also steps in to give some input.

  • Please see if you can help me with my Disk Error

I have read through a lot of issues on getting the disk error message and I cannot find the solution for me, so I will try posting this...
I have a new IMac 20" Intel 2.0 with 2 GB Ram and 500 GB Hard Drive with OSX 10.5
I printed the instructions for Boot Camp Assistant
I have a brand new copy of Windows XP Professional I opened the package it says it includes SP2
I created the 32 GB partition with Boot Camp Assistant
I have a USB Keyboard and Mouse with the Mouse connected to the Keyboard USB port not the computer as I read to do in one of the forums..
I chose the C: Partition 3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32} as indicated on Pg. 11 of the Manual
At that point I go through two progress bars that Windows goes through then, I think, Windows says it's going to reboot:
I get the black screen with white letters
    Disk Errorr....
click any screen to try again....
I can click all the keys and nothing happens unless I turn off the computer and then hold down the Options key. I can return the Mac OS but I cannot get Windows to boot.
I never get to the next screen to choose the Format.
I have checked the firmware updates when I try to download them it says I don't need them.
I really do need to still have access to Windows. The whole reason I switched to mac was because I read I could have both. I tried Vista and hated it. I don't want to hate my Mac. I hope someone can help me figure out what to do? I called Applecare, no help!!!!!

I too no longer get to the screen where I get to choose the format for the windows partition. The first time I installed it, I did and chose the WRONG option (leave the current file system intact). I used boot camp to remove the windows partition and started again, but now I get as far as setting up windows and then get a STOP system initialisation failed message. I don't get to choose the partition or the format. I would have thought removing the partition and starting again would have overcome my initial mistake, but apparently not. Unless this is a different error, which is possible, as many others here seem to have the same problem.

  • HELP! iTunes won't load, gives Windows - No Disk error

    This is so aggravating!
Last week I purchased $100 worth of audio books to put on my iPod for a vacation. Immediately iTunes wanted me to upgrade to 5.0, so I did. That's where the nightmare began.
With both versions, when I click on the iTunes icon (or the menu item), I get the license agreement, click "agree", then wait a moment before getting the Windows - No Disk error telling me to put a disk in "the drive" (it doesn't specify which drive). The message doesn't go away no matter how many times I click, or how fast, (I've gone into the hundreds). The only way I can get rid of it is to go into control/alt/delete and cancel the iTunes.exe process.
I have now spent about 20 hours trying everything I've seen on all the boards. I have uninstalled using Windows uninstaller; I've reinstalled standalone quicktime; I've installed with the ethernet cord disconnected and the USB's disconnected (including external hard drive); I've made sure all firewalls, etc. were off (McAfee, not Norton). I've done everything but voodoo.
I can roll back to iTunes 4.9 but it won't let me access my very expensive iTunes music and books - it just tries to take me to the music store and tells me to upgrade to 6.0!!!!!
    Can someone please help?!

    hi scottymac!
    header; iTunes.exe - No disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk\DR5.
    hmmm. actually, i've had
    b mixed
results when trying to fix this one, and you're actually the first person who's reported only getting it
    b some
of the time (that i'm aware of).
so if you don't mind, let's try doing some basic research.
    (1) head into your "My Computer" while you've got the ipod plugged in. what drives are being assigned to what drive letters? for reference purposes, here's a screenshot of my "My Computer" window:
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1HtsRhQOZw6zixPuie63kEUx4RNKvP0
(your ipod may not show up in this window. don't panic.)
do you get the message when you're in this configuration?
    (2) could you head into your itunes "Advanced-General" subtab and take a screenshot of that for us? there's instructions on how to do that given here:

  • Work stoppage because of scratch disk error.  The torture continues!  Please help!

    Hi, everyone:
    I would greatly appreciate help.
In December, I began receiving the error message Could not initialize Photoshop because the scratch disks are full. I deleted all the large files from my hard drive, and the problem went away.
Now, I am working on a large Photoshop file (i.e., 585,155kb). I am working at 300 ppi for print reproduction, using multiple layers. I am opening each new image to be added to the master document in a separate Photoshop window. I set the resolution of each at 300 ppi, then crop and transfer to its new layer in the master file (using drag and drop). After I crop and transfer, I close the open window of the file I just cropped and transferred. No other programs are running. This seems to be fairly standard stuff.
All was fine (although very slow) until two nights ago. When cropping, I received the error Could not complete your request because the scratch disks are full.
Once again, I researched scratch disk error messages, and I came to the conclusion I had no choice but to increase my RAM. So, I upgraded from 512MB to 2 GIG. (I successfully opened my PC and installed the RAM myself, confirming it on the Properties window. A major success, as the RAM was costly, and difficult to find, so I saved some money and time by installing it myself!)
With great enthusiasm and excitement, I opened the master Photoshop file again and the next image to be set to 300 ppi, cropped, and transferred over to a layer. But, when I tried to crop, I received the SAME sickening message, Could not complete your request because the scratch disks are full.
How can this be? I have four times the RAM I had before, which was costly, and I expected Photoshop to work swift and smooth with this new, more efficient increase in RAM. I am simply bewildered.
I tried changing my Scratch Disks to C: rather than Startup, but then I received the error message You currently have Adobe Photoshops primary Scratch and Windows primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is recommended that you set Adobe Photoshops primary Scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferably on a different physical drive.
    More scratch disk torture.
None of this makes any sense, and, while Photoshop error messages are upsetting, they dont explain what you should do. I am not a programmer, and I am totally stumped.
I know that someone somewhere upgraded their RAM and still received a Scratch disk error too, so I hope someone can advise me on what I need to do next. I cannot continue my work and just spent a lot of money on RAM.
    Thank you!

Hi, everyone: Thank you for your help with my problem. I appreciate everyones time and feedback, as well as the openness to help and explain (and further explain) what I do not fully understand. I learned a lot more, as Photoshop always introduces new things to learn and figure out. (One has to be part programmer to make PS work!) I appreciated the clear instructions and simple analogies too (for example, the head vs. suitcase was great).
Good news: The Scratch disk error has subsided for now!
I believe (although I am not certain) that the problem was something very simple after all, and I am embarassed. Only time will tell if this was really the culprit, for, if the Scratch disk error reappears later, it may be something else all together that is lurking in the background.
For now, it seems to have been a problem that Peter K.s advice helped me discover...
Peter's advice was to check the crop settings in the option bar for the common mistake of specifying pixels/cm rather than pixels/inch. My setting was correct (pixels/inch). However, I inadvertently used my pixel width number as inches in the Width setting, causing a MUCH bigger file than intended. When I changed the number, the Scratch disk error disappeared, putting me back in business! Thanks, Peter, for pointing me the direction that eventually revealed the problem.
    Could it be this simple?
I kept working most of the night to test drive, free of the Scratch disk error for now! I hope the good fortune continues.
The lesson for others may be to check simple settings carefully first, before diving into the deep end of Photoshop.
Meanwhile, the new RAM is speeding up Photoshop considerably, so I feel like it was a good investment and will probably help safeguard against further Scratch disk errors, which I have had in the past. Also, Ive taken everyones advice to consider a dedicated, separate HD for Photoshop Scratch disk use. Ill plan that as a future/next investment. However, technical notes say an external HD isnt a good idea, but I dont have capacity for an internal HD, so it will have to be an external one. I would appreciate any words of wisdom here. Also, I still have to research SATA-II drives too (which are new to me) and ascertain if I can utilize one on my system. It may simply be too old for this technology, if it is new?
If interested, I also tried several things:
    (1) Checking the space available on my HD again The pie chart indicated it was approximately half full (there was 46% free space, or 34.38 GB free space). I'll look for more to remove, but it seems reasonable to have 46 percent available, I think.
    (2) Checking the need to DEFRAG The Analyzer said a DEFRAG was not needed, and, indeed, the color chart that plotted the files showed only a thin red line or two (red indicates fragmentation).
    (3) Searching for more TEMP files to delete. I found 750 MB in TEMP files to delete, so, while not a lot, there were some still there. Previously I followed these directions to safely delete temporary Internet files: Ctrl Panel > Internet Options > General > Delete Files > Delete all offline content. But, when I navigated to C:\Windows\Temp, sure enough, I found more. Directly opening C:\Windows\Temp seems to be more effective. (I have done it that way in the past too, but lately I was trying to follow the "safe" way I had stumbled across recently.)
    (4) Checking my Photoshop Memory Allocation, which was already set at 85% (which may be too high, so I may back it down later, but I did not change it for now). I remembered adjusting it some time ago, but I had forgotten by how much!
I also read the links that everyone recommended, as well as numerous other documents I found across the Web. Some introduced still more to learn/understand, of course.
Thank you once again. Ill resurrect or repost if the Scratch disk error haunts me again later, but, for now, a happy ending.

  • HELP!!! Boot Device Missing!! Hard Disk Error!!!

I turned on my laptop and it said "Boot Device Missing" (it said Hard Disk Error sometimes) so I went in to the systen diagnostics and did a memory test (which I passed) and Hard Drive Check. I heard that if you pass the hard drive check you can fix this problem, but it said SMART Check and Short/Long DST was not available. I also went to the bios and I changed the settings to defaults (F9) and saved and exit (F10), tried shutting the laptop down, removing all the CD, USB, everything, and turned it back on, but those didn't fix the computer. I also watched some videos on Youtube that you can unscrew the bottom part and check the hard drive but I couldn't find where to unscrew and look for the hard drive. Is there any way that I can fix this without sending it to repair because I need to use this laptop everyday.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used.
Your Maintenance & Service Guide shows what size hdds you can use. Also shows how to replace- or check connection for secure fit before replacing.

  • Scratch disk error plus canvas image error help

so i recently restored my computer back to factory settings .. so my computer doesnt even have any new downloaded app .. i download photoshop cs6 now im getting scratch disk errors ..which i dont see possible if my computer doesnt have anything on it (besides what it came with) my hard drive has 276 gb i only used 33 .. so why am i having this problem?? i made an external hard drive and that has 8 gb ... also its moving very slow .. also its telling me i cant make an new canvas size 1920 x 1020 with an resloution of 300 which i know is possible because i done it before so if anybody can tell me what im doing wrong or how i can fix this problem please .. i need photoshop for work . and this is impossible  .. im using  windows 7 toshiba

Without going into much detail, the scratch can grow to humongous sizes.  In general, figure on 50 to 100 times or more the size of your largest file multiplied by the number of files you have open.
My preference is not to work with less than 200 GB of contiguous, unfragmented available drive space for scratch on a physically separate, dedicated, internal hard drive as my primary scratch disk.
Also consider that if you rely on your boot drive for primary scratch disk, Photoshop's scratch is sharing that space with the swap files of the OS.
That's one of the issues, and it can be be made much worse if you have a faulty drive.  A badly fragmented drive would also be a big problem.
As for that external drive with a pathetic 8 GB of remaining available space, you should back it up, store it in a safe place, a get a new one.  Any time any one of your hard drives gets to be 80% full or more, you are already in a heap of problem.  With that little space left, you should make sure it's not being used even as a secondary scratch disk.
Hard drive real estate is very cheap these days.

  • "No Disk" Error (premiere elements 11)

I have successfully installed Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on my PC:
         Dell XPS 8300
Intel Core i7-2600 Quad Core (3.4 GHz, 8MB Cache)
         • 1GB Radeon HD 6450 Graphics
         • 16GB DDR3 1333 RAM
         • 1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive (2 x 500GB RAID 0)
         • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
When I open the application and click "New Project" I get the following error message:
    AdobePremiereElements.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive
         \Devices\harddisk2\DR3
I can "cancel", "try again", or "continue".  The only thing that works is to hit "cancel"  (several times).  Premiere Elements will then open, but the error message will keep recurring.   Adobe Support (Chat) has not been much help.
Anyone else come across this?  This seems to be a common error in earlier versions (version 9), but I can't seem to find any good solution to it.   HELP!!!!
UPDATE:   Just as an FYI..while it's possible (but doubtful) there is preloaded software interfering, there is no other software (or viruses) installed on this computer.

  • No Disk Error when opening JFileChooser

    Hi all
After launching my app via JWS and opening my apps FileChooser I get a 'javaw.exe - No Disk' error message:
'There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:.'
This doesn't happen if I start the app without JWS. Although it happens only the first time after opening the FileChooser it's rather annoying for the user. I can't expect the user always having a disk in their drive.
Is there a way of switching the scan for drive A off?
    Thanks for your help.

This is a SecurityManager - Problem and the java.io.File.
    eg.:
    System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    File[] roots = File.listRoots();
Then you will see the problem...
    I tried the following workaround:
before you access disk. (or JFileChooser)
    SecurityManager sm = System.getSecurityManger();
    System.setSecurityManager(null);
    // disable the SecurityManger
// this special disk access needs no SecurityManager..
... popup JFileChosser or make FileAccess..

  • No Disk Error

When I try to start up iTunes I get a Windows - No Disk error. I cancel it three or four times and it goes away but iTunes will not boot up. Then it comes up with another message that says "The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder." Obviously it isn't there or it would work. I tried to look for it but the search came back with a whole butt load of files named 'iTunes'. I have removed the program and re-downloaded it and that didn't help. I don't know a lot about Computers but I know a little. Someone have mercy and help me. Thanks in advance.

This might help you...or at least help you better explain what's happening.
What are the iTunes library files?

So my laptop is freezing for a days after BSOD. When I leave my laptop overnight for downloading torrents, I always receive the message "Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown." when i woke up.
I already disabled all non-microsoft services, start up items and yet the desktop is still freezing right after the welcome screen but the welcome screen does not load too long.
The desktop freeze for more than a minute then it will go back to normal again until my laptop went to BSOD
and received this error from UEFI "Hard Disk Error." after restarting.
I ran the Hardware Diagnostic Test and I got the result:
    Failure ID: RW042K-6MT6RP-MFPX1F-61BK03
    Product ID: 65H69PA#UUF
I tried cleaning up registry and defragmenting disk and still no luck.

    * I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 1
    * My RAM is 4gb with a processor of Intel Core i7
    * My AV is microsoft security essentials
    * I am using Advanced SystemCare for cleaning up registry and defragmenting.
I was wondering if I could change my hard disk while it's still under warranty.

    Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
See Page 39. It can take any 2.5 inch wide 9mm thick laptop SATA hard drive. They are industry standard, interchangeable.
Here is one I would recommend:

This is a nice compromise with size, speed and expense. You could install an SSD for maximum speed. Post back if you need help with software or anything else.

  • Kernel_data_inpage_error & non-system disk error but everything running OK for a while

    Hi,
can someone please help me out since I have a deadline in coming up and need my laptop to work properly!
I have windows 7 64bit running on a HP ProBook 6550b. My PC runs fine for about an hour, after an hour the screen freezes for 10 seconds and then I get the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. He reboots and then I get the message 'Non-system disk or disk error'
Then I just shut down my PC and start it back up and everything works perfectly fine again for about 45 minutes. Then again the same problem.
I have tried multiple things. I executed a chkdsk /f /r  This did find some problems. I tried and followed some instructions about changing the paging file settings. I ran a memtest. No errors with the memtest.
Finally I went in the BIOS and I did a HP harddrive test. This one failed almost immediately but I can just close the BIOS and start my PC and windows runs fine.
What can I do to resolve this problem other then buying a new harddrive. (I intend to buy a new laptop anyways in couple of months after I have passed my deadline and test period has finished. But for short term I really needs this to work.)
    Many thanks!!

Just in case someone else encouters this.
The problem was due to my SSD M4 hard drive. There was a problem with the firmware causing hourly crashes after the disk has been in use for more then +-5200 hours. Upgrading the firmware fixed this for me.

  • Windows 7 Disk Error

Hi guys - I'm totally stumped. Have read countless threads and various suggestions but nothing has worked. I am at wits end.
    Here goes:
    Macbook Pro 2008, 4,1, 4GB RAM
    250GB Primary HD
500GB 2nd internal HD (SuperDrive removed)
    External USB DVD Drive
    1. Launched Bootcamp Assistant, created Windows partition,
    2. Formatted 2nd internal 500 GB HD to MS-DOS FAT using Disk Utility (prior to this was getting a common 8xxx- error)
    3. Restarted, boot up from external DVD drive with Windows 7 installation disk (retail version),
    4. Set up launches and I have Windows format BOOTCAMP partition (assuming NTFS -- there's no option otherwise),
    5. Set up successfully continues and installs Windows 7,
    6. Set up automatically reboots -- and I get a black screen with:
Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...
    Disk error
    Press any key to restart
And the sysem just hangs until I physically turn off the Macbook via power button. Upon rebooting in Mac OS, I can see that the install has put data on the Windows drive.
I have tried removing the Windows partition via Boot Camp assistant and starting over several times already, each times I get to the point above.
    Please help!
    Thanks --
PS: Also, at what point do I install Bootcamp drivers? When I launched Boot Camp assistant and try the "Download Windows software" I get a message back saying there isn't any. I assume it won't be until later in the process, once the machine boots into Windows?

Forgot to add: running Snow Leopard with all updates.
