Help! Disk stuck in Drive

I was loading some photo's onto a disk and when I went to eject the disk the CD icon turned into a folder with a circle that looks like a radiation warning it also looks just like the "Burn Folder". When you Control left click there is usually an option to eject...its not there. I tried to eject with the button on the keyboard....nothing. Tried turning off the computer, that didn't help either.
Can anyone tell me how I might eject the disk stuck in my drive?
Thanks

You can get another way also...
On your main hard drive, dig down into System > Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.

You'll now have an Eject Icon in the Menubar.

  • HELP! iBook G4 won't start, disk stuck in drive.

My iBook G4 was shutdown while a CD game was running. Now the computer only turns on to a blue screen and the eject button won't respond. The only thing the apple store ever tells anyone is to buy a new computer, but I want to see if i can salvage this one. HELP?
    iBook G4

    Hello,
Well I am pretty sure I can help you remove the disk from the drive, but unsure that your iBook G4 will run properly again. Try the following to remove the disk:
    1) Power off, press and hold down the trackpad button, power on and wait. Report back exactly what happened.
    2) Power off, power on holding down these keys at the same time (apple, option, o, f) type the following in when/if you see a white screen with black text:
    eject cd
Now, type in "mac-boot", just like that but with no quotation marks and it will now boot.
Sounds like you have an iBook G4 with a logic board failure, but I could be wrong. I hope this help you. Best of luck.

  • Windows XP Disk Stuck in Drive - Help

I finally got around to installing windows XP with Boot Camp on my Mini. Unfortunately my keyboard (wireless) does not work during set up and I cannot get past a screen in the windows set-up.
When I reboot it defaults to the windows setup disk in the drive. How can I eject this disk..
Every time I restart it starts installing windows again...

    Hi Pumpkin,
sorry it didn't work for you.
Did you used Mac specific keyboard?
I just reinstalled my winXP in Parallels and used my Macally USB keyboard (made for a Mac). The keyboard should have an Eject key which is NOT usualy on PC generic keyboards. You hold the Eject right when you restart the Mini and it should eject the CD,DVD. It did for me...

  • IMac Aluminum (intel-based) - Stuck in restart and disk stuck in drive.

I've recently been having some issues with my new iMac (purchased in April of 2008).
First, I inserted an MP3 disk with actual files on it which was created on a PC and (1) have not been able to access the disc, (2) not been able to eject the disk (and have read all post pertaining too) and (3)the disk remains as an icon on my desktop.
Second, and in my view a result of the stuck disk, the computer gets stuck when I ask it to restart. It will wipe all icons from the screen, and remain just with my desktop background for hours. None of the keyboard commands work, the mouse still moves, but it seems to be stuck before turning off and restarting.
The above two problems have now been going on for the better part of 3 weeks.
If anyone has had this problem, can give advice or answers it would GREATLY APPRECIATED and save me a trip to the genius bar. Please help!
    Ryan

I'd go ahead and force a shut-down by holding the power button down. I've had to do that a couple of times myself for one reason or another and have not had problems as a result.
Once it's shut down wait a few moments and start it back up while holding down the mouse button. I'll bet that this will work for you.

  • White screen on attempted restart plus disk stuck in drive

I had to restart my iMac after uninstalling a piece of software. On the attempted restart all I get is a white screen after the usual Apple sound. I did try to restart using what I thought was the system disk, but unfortunately I inserted the Snow Leopard disk by mistake and not the system disk (entirely my fault). I now have two problems - white screen on restart and a stuck disk. I have tried holding down the mouse key, the shift key and the "C" key repeatedly but none of them work. Appreciate any suggestions.

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

  • Disk stuck in drive, MBP won't start up!

Yesterday, i was burning a CD in iPhoto, but i realized that i had only selected 1 photo to burn. I tried to force quit iPhoto, but this froze the computer. I shut it down, rebooted, and the apple logo would not show up at startup! I tried ejecting the disk by holding the mouse (as the manual directs), but to no avail. I cannot even get my MBP to start up! Help! Please?

Ahhhhh! I had the same experience lately. Scouring through these forums I found one individual "solved" their problem by using a library card. Seems that, if you ever so gently insert the card into your front slot, before start up, and press the card upon the top surface of the cd... in order to slow it down a tad... it forces the cd to eject. I had this happen and did the procedure mentioned above and it honestly worked! All the other tricks of the trade were fruitless. I've had a PB and never encountered this in the past.

My granddaughter put the Start Up Disk in the drive inadvertently and now the drive will not eject it or start up using the HD.  I have tried all of the suggestions for opening it that appear in the manual.  Help?  It is her computer, a iMac G3 or G4 with superdrive, the one with the ball shaped base.   Thank you.

It's a tray loading drive, there should be a little hole next to it, just large enough for a paper clip.  Stick the end of the paper clip in it and the tray should open.

  • I have a disk stuck in my drive

I have a disk stuck in my drive...how do I get it out.

    check out Kappy's user tip:
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following: /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

I want to upgrade my 2007 Mac desktop to 10.5 Leopard. I am currently running on 10.4.11. When I put the leopard disk into the drive all it does is make a weird noise and then spits the disk right back out. It doesn't do this with any other discs, only this software. Is it still possible to update this computer?

    Yes. Try Amazon.
Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

  • 2 CD's stuck in drive

After being told by the Mac Genius' that it would cost me $80 to remove the 2 cd's stuck in my drive and $500 to replace the drive, I said forget it! I flipped my laptop over to install a new memory card and guess what, the cd's ejected after all other failed attempts to remove them all it took was turning my laptop upside down!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are some circumstances where disks get stuck in the slot loading drives Apple uses in the Mac minis, iMacs and in the laptop range because the disks foul the inside edges of the slot in the casing. Sometimes this is caused by a thicker than usual disk (or two disks together!) and sometimes by slight misalignment of the drive and the slot itself. It's not all that common for this to be resolved by turning the unit upside down, and I'm surprised it worked with two disks stuck at the same time, but it has been known to work!
Sometimes stuck disks can be guided out of the slot by using something like a stiff business card inserted into the slot by a quarter inch or so, and using it to help realign the disk with the slot. Unfortunately though, there are some instances where the only solution is to disassemble the system to get at the optical drive. Thankfully that's an easier proposition for the Mac mini than with most of the laptops!

  • Snow leopard clean install stuck (Hard Drive upgrade)

HELP!!!...I have a mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.  I currently have OS X Lion on it and running great.  My problem is that I'm trying to upgrade my hard drive from the stock 250GB to a 500GB that I just purchased.  I learned to do that I needed to put the new drive into the Mac and then restart my computer booting from the Snow Leopard discs that came with my computer.  I did that...got into the process, and before hitting the install button opened up the disk utility to format and correctly partition the new drive.  Once the drive was ready I began installation of SL. Installation progressed to about 25% then stuck.  I even waited a good hour to see if it would continue...all to no avail.  I went through this process three times and each time the same thing.  Any ideas???  I feel like this should be a fairly simple procedure.

You have a bad sector on the drive, what you need to do is this:
(clean the bottom of the 10.6 disk with a bit of rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth, polish to a shine.)
1: rebooting holding the c key off the 10.6 installer disk
2: select disk utility and partition tab
3: 1 partition, option: GUID, format OS X Extended journaled and click Apply.
4: next click Erase> Security Option> Zero All Data (wait apx 1 hour per 500GB)
If that finishes, then your drive should be fine, if not, it's defective and you need to send it back.
Writting Zero's to the disk allows the driver to map off any bad sectors
5: Reinstall 10.6 like you tried, then update to 10.6.8, then install all programs and last return files from backup, in that order for good performance.

  • DVD stuck in drive ... tried everything...

I have an older (2007) Macbook Pro with a DVD stuck inside of it.
I have tried to force eject by using
    Terminal commnand
    Restart holding mouse / trackpad
    Restart holding EJECT
    Restart holding OPTION
and even downloading DISK EJECT app.
    None have worked.
The DVD does not show up on my desktop nor in any application.
When I attempt to burn a disc in iTunes (to see if it sees a disk in the drive) it tell me that there is no burner or software.
When I start up the macbook I hear the disc spinning in the drive but when it gets to my desktop screen, it spins down and never can be accessed.
This is an important DVD disc with files on it I need.  can anyone help with this?

you need to take it somewhere to have a professional look at it if none of the following steps work
    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.
