2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus
Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
Here's my configuration:
MSI K8N Diamond Plus
AMD64 X2 4400+
ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
Decklink Extreme PCI-E
2GB RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.
=======================
The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
=======================
Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
Thank you very much.
Greets.
Igor BineliRemove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use. Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card, and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one. -
Water cooling and the K8N Diamond Plus...
I have a water cooled DFI mobo atm and I want to change it to the K8N Diamond Plus and I noticed that the board has a heat pipe on the northchip and on some other component. My question is this; I want to put a water block on the northchip but I don't know if I can. Can I safely remove the heat pipe setup to put a water block on the north chip and if I do what about the other component that the heatpipe was covering? I hope I wasn't to confusing in the explanation.
Hello !!
You will need two Waterblocks, one for the north- second one for the southbridge.
There should be no Problems mounting the blocks if the mounting holes fit the mainboard.
You can easily remove the Heatpipe. You have to squeeze those nipples togehter tha are on the backside of the board. You can do it manually but you can also use a cylindric tool to squeeze them together. I cut a plastic pen i the half, and pushed it on those mounting latches carefully.

After this procedure the Heatpipe is only held from the thermal grease on the chipset.

Help! My K8n diamond plus wont start!
HELP! I've bought a MSI k8n diamond plus mother board, and it woont start, i've tested all my other hardware on my other computer, and it works fine. When i'm turning on my computer, it shuts down after a second. What is the problem?
/JeppeQuote from: Jeppar on 31-May-06, 21:15:19
What does it mean if it has a short...
There is a 12 Vatx Connecter on my motherboard with 8 pin, but on my power supply theres only four, i've connected it anyway, and it fits in, on the half of the connector.
Could that be the problem?
I use the same type of connectors, no need for converters.
I too have only 4 pins out of the 8 on the board connected, no problem at all....
And yes I do overclock
But big chance it's the PSU that can't cope, it has only 14A @ 12V1 & 18A @ 12V....not very much for a 500W....
Also, try to boot with just 1 stick of memory in slot 1. -
Where are the K8N Diamond Plus Boards
I ordered my board from Tiger Last week. Was told they on back orderd...
Went to newegg.com .... out of stock.
Checked about 3 other places I go and they are out of stock. I want a retail box for the MSI Warrantee and all the extras they give you with the board.
Is there a problem with production??Quote from: Bas on 09-June-06, 23:36:29
Those are not OEM....no way....as MSI doesn't make Diamond Plus OEM boards.....
However, MSI does warrant those boards in full if you can show a proof-of-purchase.
These are NOT OEM.
Anyway, if you don't need the cables and stuff, it's a good deal.
OEM boards have different numbers and BIOS, they are not the same.
If what you said is true, and if I could "buy" the plate for the back of the computer I would do it.

Chat InformationThank you for contacting Newegg. My name is Allen. How may I assist you today?
Tim: Item #: N82E16813130037R says OEM but MSI does NOT make this board in an OEM version. Is it just safe to assume they are open boxes or retruns?
Allen: this is an open box item/refurbished
Tim: ok, is it possable then that it would come with all the cables and stuff?
Allen: no Sir, just by itself
Allen: has only 15 days for a refund
Allen: no guaranty from manufacturer
Tim: would it be coverd by the MSI 3 year warantee
Allen: I am afraid no
Tim: errr. and if you send it back for a refund is there a "restocking fee?"
Allen: contact us with a reason and we will waive that fee for you
Tim: thanks for your time Allen

Apparently the K8N Diamond Plus doesn't exist.
Something's wrong here...
...But at least they've got cool blinking arrows next to the selection tree!

K8N Diamond Plus BIOS Bootmanager?
On my old DFI Nforce3 board I had a feature that was really handy. At boot I could hit escape and then choose the drive I want to boot from in a quick popup menu. Does the K8N Diamond Plus have a simmular feature? I find this to be very usefull becasue I dual boot x64 and x32 winxp and not having to deal with software bootmanagers was really nice. Honestly it was the only nice thing that DFI board had

K8N Diamond Plus SiI 3132 WinXP x64 non-RAID drivers?
Hi
I'm looking for non-RAID drivers for the SiI 3132 on my K8N Diamond Plus for WinXP x64 (I managed to fine the x32 ones and they work fine so I know it's not the drives or the moboard. I tried the drivers on MSI's website.
I've searched around the forum and followed the leads onto planetamd64 and the Asus website for them, but to no avail.
To be precise, I have selected non-RAID in the BIOS, and the drives to show up on on the POST screen, but do not appear in Win 64; there is the classic exclamation mark in the device manager for a 'Mass Storage Device'. I don't want to concatenate the drives in RAID mode, so I did not try booting with that selected in the BIOS lest it destroy the stuff I have on them.
[I miss the simple JBOD option in the 3114...]
Any help gratefully appreciated!
thx
bn
Hi all,
I solved the problem.
You won't find the drivers under the drivers section of SiI's website but you will in the Knowledge Base. Look under Serial ATA | COntrollers | SiI3132, you'll find article 11043 'SATA 64 bit Windows IDE driver - released' dated 8/19/05. Click under that and you'll find a file 3132_win64_idrv_1004_logo.zip. It's what you need.
Hope this helps someone.

K8N Diamond Plus boot problems
I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month. Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on. The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen. The set of four lights on the back show R R
G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine. I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software. I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything. The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does. However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly. And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor? I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem? I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks!!

You guys are awesome! Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about. I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer. I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before. So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right? And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial? I'll have to go poke around their website also. Well, thank you all so much for all of your help. This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them. Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first. Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that? It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram. Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen. thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

Speedfan 4.29 works with the K8N Diamond Plus. I have it running now
Ok. Get it but not sure about MBM as it seems that it don't support it. :p -
This is what I've got installed on the K8N Diamond Plus:
AMD x2 4400+ @ 2.75 GHz
4 GB DDR 500 GigaRAM
2x EVGA GeForce 7800GT's in SLi
Sound Blaster XFi Fatality Edition
2x 74 GB WDC Raptors (non-RAID)
2x 320 GB WDC SATA Raid Drives (RAID-0 on Sil3132 chipset)
Sony DRU 810 DVD Recorder
Sony CRX 320 Combo Drive
WinXP Pro 32-Bit SP2 installed (WinXP Pro 64-Bit this weekend)
Windows installed A-O-K, drivers no prob, but, I ran into two snags. One, in my system properties a "PCI Modem" shows up looking for a driver. Second, I have a Koutech Firewire 800 / USB 2.0 PCI-e card that picks up when it wants to. That card has been removed physically and I'm planning on RMA'ing the Combo card...so far. Has anyone seen a phantom modem card? I'm really hoping and praying that it's not the motherboard that's defective.
The only other minor issue is that my memory in the BIOS detects as DDR 333 at 2.6v. GigaRAM recommends 2.9-3.1v, but I cannot adjust the voltage in the BIOS. Is there a physical way thru the BIOS (without voiding the warranty) or only way I'll be able to thru software??? Prefer not to. Any help on the issues mentioned will be appreciated.
Latin Polar BearI see that few people have come and gone past this topic. Can anyone help or does anyone have any insight???

Aftermarket HSF options for K8N Diamond Plus
Just built a new rig with the K8N Diamond Plus and am very pleased with the board -- worked great from first power up and with a little BIOS tweaking I have no trouble getting a 50% overclock from my dual core Opteron 170. No headaches at all, unlike my previous experiences with Abit boards.
The AMD heatsink fan unit (with heatpipes) provided with the 170 is not bad at all, but I'd like to replace it with a more capable unit, along the lines of the Zalman 9500, Scythe Ninja, Tuniq Tower 120, Thermalright XP-120, etc. The tall heatsink of the Nvidia NB is close to the CPU socket and quite high, so I'm not sure if any of these will fit. Anyone using one of these or similar heatsinks ? Please let me know if they fit, or did not fit.
Since I could find any of the 7800GTX 512MB boards I wanted, I'm using a single MSI X1900XT card right now but plan to go SLI in the future with 7900GTX cards driving the 30" Dell monitor. The ATI video board and nVidia mainboard surprisingly get along great, with no crashes so far and 3DMark06 scores above 6000 -- the X1900XT is an impressive piece, and much faster than the X800XT-PE I had in my previous computer. But the fan can be extremely loud and the Catalyst Control Center sucks. Unfortunately the old ATI control panel is no longer offered...TimeReaper,
The problems your are talking about are not uncommon with this MS-7220. The BIOS Clear Circuit physically has problems and that is not something they are going fix with a BIOS upgrade.
The BIOS Clear Circuit actually trashing the values stored in the CMOS by not doing a complete clearing of the CMOS is causing the problem. What leaves trash for parameters, for the BIOS to use when rebooting.
Let give you an example that fits your case. You can set the BIOS to turn the system on at any give time and date. So, if the trash in CMOS is in those parameters storage location. Therefore, whatever trash value gets stored in the locations, as a dated and time, will turn the computer on at that time. So, you could of had the computer come on in the meddle of the night two week later. Now, think of all the functions the BIOS have and how many weird things people are having and do not know why. There is one guy that is a regular on the Forum how has been fighting a problem I know is caused by trash in the BIOS CMOS, but Strick and I have ask him to do a good CMOS clearing and he just will not do it. I even wrote out in great deal the over night CMOS clear procedure I use. It is a pain in the ass, but some times, I have too use it. I just had to use it, upgraded V3.09 using short CMOS Clear and had no problem. Used the short procedure again when upgrading to V3.0A and everything when to hell, had to finally use the long overnight procedure and reinstall Windows to get computer to run right again.
NoBS, when your computer goes BOOO during the night just plain it o MSI.

K8N Diamond Plus and Opteron 175
Anyone running a K8N Diamond Plus and an Opteron 175 ok?
Any problems?
Any tips?Quote from: skippy9146 on 20-January-06, 08:51:51
They should run fine... as a Diamond Plus comes with a Dual Core compatable BIOS.
You'll have to post back with some news when you get it together.... I have a 165 that needs a new home.
thanks for the reply, i kinda figured it might support it, as the M8N Diamond does (accordingto the cpu support list) but MSI's site doesn't seem to have much info about the K8N Diamond plus, not even a single bios upgrade or anything.
I have an ASUS A8N32-SLI but i have 3 issues with it:
1) can't install vista 5270 - common problem, not just me
2) poor pci slot location when using 2 pci-express dual width gfx cards
3) only available pci slot shares an IRQ with 2nd gfx card, bad for sound cards
I was going to order one this weekend but i might just not bother now as someone else posted the xfi cards don't work with them (popping/crackling, just like i have now) and that was my main motivation for getting rid of my asus board as my xfi card doesn't work either. -
K8N Diamond Plus & Opteron 185
Does anyone have a system that is running the K8N Diamond Plus & either the Opteron 180 or 185? (Preferably the 185) I just want to know how the system runs with either of these chips as I'm looking to upgrade my processor sometime this spring. Thanks!
Hi, I have the Neo4 Plat and went from the 165 to the 180 and am happy with the results, I had the benefit of using the 165 I pulled in my HTPC so it wasn't a straight case of dumping the 165 in favour of the 180. I haven't really tried to o/c the 180 yet.

Can't get k8n diamond plus working with 4x1Gb
I managed to get the DDR memory frequency running at 333MHz using only 2x1Gb in the Green slots of the motherboard (as listed in page 2-7 of the K8N Diamond Plus Manual).
However, when I add the other 2x1Gb modules to the Purple slots, the system does not even come up.
I've then went back to 2x1Gb in the Green slots so that I can get the system to fire up, gone into the BIOS and adjusted the settings according to the configurations below and restarted.
I've then shut-down and re-inserted the other 2x1Gb into the Purple slots so that 4Gb is present, then rebooted but the system still does not come up.
Adjust CPU FSB Frequency: 200.0
Current DDR Memory Frequency (this is Read Only) DDR 333
Adjust DDR Memory Frequency: set to Manual
Memory Clock: Tried all of the following for DRAM/FSB 1/2,2/3,5/6,1/1,5/4
Does anyone know of any person who has got a K8N Diamond Plus working with 4x1Gb ?Tried removing one of the video cards and disabling the sound card (as suggested by http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=65436), but the system still didn't fire up with 4Gb RAM.

K8N Diamond Plus 2x16... Arrival Imminent?
I noticed a strange thing when I was looking/pricing for my next mobo - SLI, naturally. I know that the Diamond Plus 2x16 isn't out yet but I thought I'd have a look just to "ballpark" my budget (Merry Chirstmas to me ) & I noticed something odd.
There is not a MSI SLI board to be had anywhere from 3 of the "BIG" sites that I've shopped so far - NewEgg, ZipZoomFly or Monarch. It is quite unusual for all to be out of a particular product at the same time. The single PCI-e boards are available at all 3, however.
Hopefully, this means that the K8N Diamond Plus 2x16 SLI is about to "hit the street"...
Just my contribution to the rumor mill.Quote from: Tiresmoke on 26-November-05, 00:20:47
When you get one maybe you could take a couple close up pics of that new chipset cooler. I think it looks pretty nice but MSI did not post a good closeup of it so that folks could really get a gist of what it is.
It would also be pretty cool to get some compairison between how well it works versus the existing cooling solution.
Looks like a heatpipe thing... similiar to what some others are starting to use.
From what I've read, they can work pretty well - as long as there is sufficient air moving through your case that is. If not much air is flowing they supposedly get pretty damned hot. That might be something that people running watercooling might take note of, if they're not running fans in their cases.
In any event, if I had one in front of me right now ready to install, the first thing I'd do is completely remove it to see if there's a good amount of thermal goo... & then promptly replace it with Artic Silver.
I've checked, then replaced the thermal compound with AS on every new board that I've gotten before installing since my ABIT days - at the time they were putting little or no compound on the chipset. Good thing it's become a habit - there wasn't exactly what I'd call a copious amount on my Neo either. Anyway, there's always benefits to doing that straight out of the box for obvious reasons.
