Help! Don't understand Finder on 10.7.5
Good evening,
I am VERY tech challenged and recently upgraded to os x 10.7.5. In doing so my finder looks totally different. I did a search on google for help and found the answers given were way above my head or they don't work for me. Here is a screen shot of my 'finder'.
Some of the suggestions said to go to user name, preferences, go or other advices. I can not find a 'go' or 'preferences' anywhere and I have clicked til my fingers hurt. I did a search for 'finder preferences' and that didn't give me anything useful.
In viewing the screen shot above could you pls tell me exactly (step by step) how to find 'go' and 'finder preferences'? My goal is to get the sidebar to show all my devices all the time. It doesn't even show my hard drive!
This whole mess started w/ my identity in Outlook for Mac 2011 somehow getting corrupted. I lost all my data as I don't know how to use Time Machine. I was just so exasperated in losing this date (this is the reason I got mac in the first place. I got so tired of all the crashes with the PC) Then I realized I have some if not all of the data I need on my iphone!! So, now I need to be able to see my iphone in my finder to try to follow the directions on how to import that info.

Help, can anyone understand "finder.crash.log"?
I've had a problem for a day now... my Macintosh HD couldn't open for a while without crashing the finder (everything on desktop disappearing... then back). Then I made some adjustments, and now the HD will open... but if I switch to view as "list"... the same thing happens. G5 dual 2.5 Mac OS X (10.3.5)Wait... under "Thread 0 crashed", there's NOTHING!?!?! I've never seen CrashReporter do THAT before. That falls under the "I have no idea" category. Maybe a massive stack stomper bug; it looks like an entire page of memory was zeroed for some reason.
You might try swapping out RAM and/or reseating it, as that could easily be caused in hardware (though I would expect it to affect more than just Finder if it did). That's about all I can think of.... Beyond that... no idea. -
when we try to buy a new app or update our existing apps, my account settings wont allow me to enter ANY of my credit cards. It says to contact apple/itunes/support, but when I do, I don't understand how to navigate it to find an answer. Help!

I don't understand how to download an attachment on an email, on my iPad. It counts down as if downloaded, but I can't find it? What am I doing wrong?
What kind of attachment you are trying to download? After downloading, it should appear with the icon of the program that mostly likely will open it.

Slow Macbook Pro- please help, I don't understand previous advice.

I have a very slow Macbook Pro running on Lion 10.7.3.
I looked up this problem on the forums before I sent this message but I didn't quite understand the advice. I have been on something called Disk Utility and Activity Monitor but don't really understand what I'm looking for. It seems a large percentage of my mac is 'idle' if that makes sense. Someone said to look at Page Out but I really don't understand what that means and what sort of numbers are normal.
I do have some storage left so I don't think it could be that. A lot of my gigabytes seem to be taken up by movies and 'other'. I've tried deleted a load of videos but it hardly made a difference. I have Mac Mail and it seems very slow on my Macbook compared to on my Ipad and iphone. iCal is also very slow on here and it always takes a while to load internet pages. It isnt the wifi connection.
Please help and bear in mind I am by no means a Mac whizz so you might have to talk in layman's terms!

If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
Launch the Console application in the same way as above, and select “kernel.log” from the file list. Post the dozen or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message. -

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

Why is this an error??? I don't understand why it is... Help Please

Ok, I'll preface this by saying there's a lotta code pasted in here but it really quite an easy question, I just need to post all the code so you understand where what came from.
Now.............the question I'm trying to do is to create an applet that has 2 buttons -- each button when clicked opens an application (one is a simple calculator, the other a Mortgage calculation app). When you click one of the buttons (calc or mortgage), that app opens infront of the 2 button menu so its in "focus". The button on the 2 button menu then switches to a "hide app X" button (ie: "Mortgage", changes to "Hide Mortgage"). Thus if you click the hide button, the app that was opened is hidden, and then that "hide" button switches back to the original "app X" button. Pretty simple.
Now, I have from my text book an example that does exactly this, with the simple calculator already in it, and with another app (a traffic light thing) where the Mortgage should be in my final product. I also already have the Mortgage applet I need to insert from another book example in place of that Traffic Light portion.
Now, common sense would dictate that I should be able to just copy my code for the Mortgage applet into the example that has the 2 button menu structure, and overwrite the code I want to get rid of (the traffic light) with the mortgage code & rename the menu buttons. Right?? A simple switch of one thing for another... but therein lies my problem.
I copied all the Mortgage code in correctly over the traffic lights, switched the button names, tried to compile it but I get one error....

Depends on how you want to use it. Flash storage on the newer macbook and macbook air are built in. A macbook air is the most light weight and a very good machine. It will do all you want it to do unless you are running some very intensive programs. If you go to the apple store on line you can compare the different macbook pro" and macbook Air's.

I use the scroll-bar widgets for most of my texts. (I have audio buttons on the side, and the scripts are within the widget, to the side). My only text is within widgets, and text boxes, naturally.
I am following your recommendation: cleaning files, etc. I am remaking the book anew. I need to convince the EPUB bot or whatever that my file looks and works nicely on all my devices. You would expect an error message when previewing the book: 'Hey Amigo, your file is flawed, stop working on it, and get back to the drawing board." Should be able to try again next Monday. -

HELP!! Don't understand why my new phone won't work!!
HELP!! I just brought my iPhone home and went through the activation process. Everything was fine. Then all of a sudden, where the bars for service are... it says "Searching" and won't stop. I also can't get into anything. I press on the screen... nothing. I reset it twice... nothing. It's still doing it. I don't understand why and I can't speak to anyone in technical support right now. It asks you to pick a foreground color, use the pen tool and make a traingle with the points, completing your last point by clicking on the first and completing the loop.
Then it wants you to go to Ctrl+Click on the path, add a few new points, and drag them around to warp the path but I cannot warp it like in the tutorial. I just get some random shapes and inversion of foreground color and white.
How do I do step 2?
Thanks.Those are basic path adjustments. With the pen tool selected, you Ctrl+click on the path to make sure it's selected and then click on the path a couple of times with the Pen tool to add some anchor points which you then modify
