Help dvd and cd not buring

Hey
I am trying to burn a dvd as well as cds but after almost finished burning them an error response comes up that says an error occured and you cannot continue burning this cd/dvd
I don't know how to fix it can anyone suggest something???????

Arianna,What software are you using? Have you burnt a similar disk before? Are you using the same media? Have you upgraded any software recently? Are you trying to do any complex tasking at the same time?
Actually scrub that - given your other issues (other posts) you need to fix those first. I guess you're trying to back-up your data eh?

DVD drive plays certain dvds and others not

I've accidently locked my dvd drive to a certain region (not sure which), and i know that i cant unlock it. But i realise that i can play certain dvds and others not, for example in my Will & Grace collection i can play the first 5 seasons but not the later ones. When i try to play the later ones, dvd player tells me to eject it because 'the dvd does not match the drive region code'...But why can i play the other ones which have the same region code??

If you locked your machine in the wrong region code, take it in for service.

Dvd and Bluray not working HELP !

when I insert a dvd or bluray into my laptop it asks for upgrades. When i click on it does not work . i went to troubleshoot clicked on media support and went on the website . there were comments and posts about the same problem . one of the posts said that it worked when u install the HP Mediasmart DVD software well its not working !!! IT ACTUALLY ENABLED MY DVD AND BLURaY USAGE! i need to know how to unistall the HP Mediasmart DVD software and get w,e updates my computer was asking for !!! plssss help meee !!

Help :( DVD Drive will not read Blank DVDs but movie and data DVDs ok.

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
I know a lot may say it's a bad batch, but I bought a new batch, Memorex vs. Verbatim and nothing.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

Repairing permissions yes. But in my head, if everything is working fine for it, just won't read Blank media, could it be a software thing?

Blank DVD and CD not showing up in Finder or anywhere

My blank dvd and cd are not showing up in Finder. I checked my preference and deleted from my library com.apple.finder.plist. All to no avail. I have the new upgraded Lion.

Honestly i don't think those are going to make much difference for this problem. Go ahead and do them, but they're usually last resort desparation solutions, not first resort.

DVD and CD not working right

When I play a DVD on my PC, I get talking before the people start talking. The picture stops and go.
Then when I put a CD in, there is no sound. Everything worked good before. Could you tell me what is wrong.

I understand that your DVD/CD optical drive is not able to read the audio on discs properly, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Does the audio work when playing a file on the computer, or when streaming a video? Is this a recent or a reoccurring issue?
In the meantime, I recommend re-installing the original software and hardware drivers that first came with your computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8). To update the newly installed software, please follow this resource on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8). This should help to ensure that the audio drivers work correctly when playing optical drive media.
I also suggest taking a look at this document on Resolving DVD and Blu-ray Movie Problems (Windows 8) for additional troubleshooting steps.

DVDs and Zips not readable

Recently some zip discs have been opening a window that tells me that they are unreadable by this computer, now I have gotten that message with all movie DVDs that I had been playing sucessfully in the past. This is happening on both of my computers the other being an ibook. The DVDs still play on my television player. The computers can still recognize software DVDs and audio CDs.

Sounds like a system issue, I have this happen from time to time and usually maintaince (Onyx, repair permissions etc.) straightens it out, will also usually run Diskwarrior on the Hard Drives (or Zips) It is strange that both computers have this at the same time, I would say check the cord, but that should not be affecting all the DVDs also.
So it sounds like a software/prefs issue.
Try creating a new user account and see if that helps. (Have you done any rcent software updates or OS?)

I need help, CFquery and SQL NOT BETWEEN

OK I am building a hotel booking system as a college project and I'm having trouble with finding rooms that are available. Now I have got this working, to an extent, So to give you the bigger picture al try and lay this out the best I can so you can understand.
This is my database structure:

OK, now you can see how this is going to work with the Bookings Tables RoomID and CustomerID matching the others to make a relationship, simple databasing.
Now I have a page that lets you select a date and then select how many days the customer wants to stay for. So the selected date will be put towards the BookingDateIN field and the calculated date will be put towards the BookingDateOUT in a NOT BETWEEN SQL statement.
I have got this to work with some test data, how ever when I select a date range that is below the 5th day in any month it shows the rooms are booked and not available even though the test data does not contain any days below the 5th.
This is my test data in the Bookings Table:

I only skimmed this thread. But even ignoring the myriad of date issues, the queries have a serious "logic" problem. If you think about it, does searching for rooms that are not reserved in a table that only contains reserved rooms really make sense? Say you have twenty (20) rooms. If only two (2) of them are reserved (ie in the Bookings table), how is that first query supposed to account for the other eighteen (18)?
It would make more sense to search the Bookings table for rooms that are reserved. Then query your Rooms table for rooms not in that list (ie available). Granted that is not a very efficient method for a real application. But should work for your purposes.
This is my test data in the Bookings Table:
Are you storing the booking dates as strings? Dates should be stored in a date/time column. Storing them as strings creates all kinds of problems. Not to mention it makes it more difficult to use your database's date functions.

How can I transfer data (iTunes/iPhoto) MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to my brand new iMac 27" - Apple Support couldn't help me and did not make the promised call-back

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" and bought a brand new iMac 27" last week.
I tried to transfer data (musdic & photos) via Thunderbolt, but i did not run, my system always
tries to transfer data via WLAN, but that would last more than 80 hours.
I tried to get some help from the Apple Support, but unfortunately they couldn't help me.
A promised call-back from the next higher support-level has not been done.
Does anybody know what the problem might be.
The Thunderbolt-cable is brand new.

Instead of using Migration Assistant, the best way is to use the Target Disk Mode, so you will save headaches (Migration Assistant creates a new user with the transferred data).
To do this, just connect both Macs with the Thunderbolt cable, and then, start the MacBook Pro holding the T key, so a Thunderbolt or FireWire icon should appear on the display. After that, go to the iMac, open Finder, and the hard drive of the MacBook Pro will appear on the Finder sidebar as an external drive, under "Devices". Just access to it, go to the folders with your iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and copy them to the iMac

First check that nothing is excluded from SpotLight search
Then run activity monitor and see if spotlight is running - it takes a very long time on a new system to index everything. Maybe you only need to give it time.
I believe that there is a blinking dot in the center of the spotlight "lens" icon when it is running, but I am not sure.

DVD and CD not burning all information

Please help... My imac has begun to drop files during burning. When the burn is complete some folders are fully burnt, while other folders have some of their contents missing???? Am I doing something wrong, or is my G5 going CucKoo?I use the finder to burn my discs which are made up of mostly digital pics, adobe files etc. Use either verbatim dvd -r or sony cd-r. Would like to use 1 large capacity dvd to archive my files every few months. Maybe I'll just stuff the lacie til it's full instead. Thanks

This may sound super-basic--but before starting a burn, I would check and make sure you aren't trying to stuff too much data onto one disc. Don't forget (and forgive me if you have already thought of this) that the Finder often calculates file sizes and disc capacities differently from disc manufacturers. You've probably noticed how the advertised size of HD's differs from the actual usable size; DVD's and CD's are no different.
You could also try using different disc burning programs (Disc Utility, Toast, iPhoto, etc) or borrowing an external burner and seeing if that makes a difference.

HARD TO INSERT cd OR dvd, AND WILL NOT EJECT CD OR DVD

jUST FINISHED PAYING FOR MY 24 INCH IMAC. NOW IM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CD/DVD READER. Hard to insert, have to play around ( seems like SOMETHING IS BLOCKING THE CD/DVD FROM GOING IN) wHEN I DO GET IT IN, IT WORKS, but WHEN I try to eject, I hear it trying , but it doesn't eject.

I think you need to put the mouse cursor in the top of the window that you want to drag...

I have already tried following those steps. I went back and tried to follow them again but they did not work. Some of my songs have synced, some have not. Dvd player will not recognize imac dvd -70012

I'm on a iMac7,1, Intel Core 2 Duo, running 10.6.8.
Inserted DVD and did not show up on desktop or launch dvd player. Tried to open dvd player application and got: A VALID DVD DRIVE COULD NOT BE FOUND (-70012).
pressed eject button alot...
ran permission repair
restarted many times, holding down various keys.
tried command line: drutil tray open & drutil eject
tried CleanGenius: http://www.easemac.com/support/online-help/eject-device.htm
many other things. Could not locate: Try going into your home folder/Library/Preferences and look for a file named com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist and throw that out.

Yeah, that's not good. You could try resetting the SMC, sometimes it helps. Other than that you have two choices replace the drive, either yourself or by someone, or just buy an external drive. Considering that your Mac is 5 years old I'd go the external route. To reset the SMC
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
