Help! DVD photo storage

I want to back-up all my photos by burning them onto DVD.
I was successful (so I thought) in completing the "burn" process, but when trying to view them off the "completed" DVD, the photos are "not found"??
What step am I missing here....

Hello, I need some help with managing photo storage on my iPhone/iPhoto/Pictures/External Hard-drive.
Background:
I have 1,200 photos/videos on my iPhone 4S on the camera roll and need to delete them to save space. Most are photos/videos of my new baby which I would be devastated to lose, so I want to be 110% sure that I have them backed up properly and accessible.
I frequently hook my iPhone up to iPhoto to download all of the latest photos to iPhoto.
I have done Time Machine back ups and just did a latest one yesterday.
I would like to save my camera roll into a folder on my hard-drive so that all of these photos are in one place in case I need to access them (and not spread across different folders like in iPhoto).
My Mac (Macbook Pro - circa 2009) is now telling me that my 'Starter Disc is nearly full' and won't save all of the photos from my camera roll.
My questions;
Are photos stored both in iPhoto and Pictures folder, and if so are they duplicates?
I've heard that Time Machine only backs up full libraries and so cannot be used to access individual photos - is this true? If so, how do you access individual photos/files from my external hard-drive?
How and where should I delete older photos from to save space on my Mac - iPhoto or Pictures? (once I know how to access them from my external drive if needed).
How do I delete all of my photos from my iPhone camera roll in one go? - I can only see a way to delete the 1,200 of them individually.
Going forward where is the best place for me to synch/upload my photos for medium term storage/access on my Mac?
I would consider myself quite intelligent but when it comes to this topic, I'm happy to be spoken to in very simplistic terms!

ITunes and Photos - Storage Mismatch

Dear All,
Since upgrading to the iOS 8.0.2, i've had a problem with my photo storage not matching between the phone and iTunes.
So, upon syncing the iPhone it states i have 2539 (6.19 Gb) of photos on my phone, however, on my phone it says i only have 944 under collections/moments (the repalcement for the camera roll). Shared storage we know if iCloud and not part of this total. Albums only have 226 recently added.
So where are all my photos on the phone? I've run out of space, it's syncing with 0 photos and i can't find a solution.

Moving all my photos from my Mac to SmugMug photo storage service.

I have joined the photo storage service SmugMug. My goal is to move every last photo I have on my Mac to SmugMug and then delete my photos from my Mac. Following SmugMug's path for loading photos, I'm taken to a page that shows the first line item hi-lited in blue which says "iPhoto". If I were to scroll down, the next line item says "Events" and the one below it says "Photos".
See example:
Question #1: Which line item do I select, "iPhoto", "Events" or "Photos"?
Question #2: How do I delete all photos permanently from my computer once I've successfully moved them to SmugMug?
Please be specific in your answers. I am old and have little computer experience.

I'd like to offer the suggestion that you do not erase all your photos from your computer, or..... at least get an external hard drive and park a copy of them there. I would not trust having one backup only; there are things that can go wrong and, personally, I would not trust any online server with my precious and only copy of my photos.
I can't help with the other question since I don't use iPhoto.

Photo storage and delete questions

I have photoshop cs51 and bridge. I also have a new version of lightroom (I tried but was unable to download and use the creative cloud versions so had to do separate). My versions of PS and bridge will not open raw, so i'm using 90% LR and only bringing photos into PS when I need that little extra. I'm fine doing it that way. I'm having a huge issue with photo storage and have some questions I'm hoping someone can answer. Obviosly I'm not very technical, so simple answers work best.
I had LR for months before PS and bridge. Bridge has imported many of my photos. If I delete them from bridge, will they be deleted from my computer, or only bridge? Would it be possible for me to delete the bridge program, as I don't use it?
My one year old Mac is already full and running out of storage. I've moved my LR catalogues over to a portable HD. It's my understanding that it 'removes' those photos....but keeps a thumbnail in LR for me to see. I can only access the photos when they portable HD is connected to my Mac. However, there is still SO much space being taken up by my photo's. I'm not sure why. Should I remove the thumnails from LR? Do they still take up a lot of space?
I have been unable to load new photo's due to this issue. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Bridge does not, like Lightroom, import photos. If you delete an image in Bridge, you delete it from your computer. I don't think you can uninstall Bridge, it's probably part of the Photoshop install.
You should move your photos to the external HD, not the LR catalogs. The catalogs don't take up much space, your photos do. (And, btw, there's no need to have several catalogs, one is usally enough.) But you can leave your catalogs on the external HD if you like.
When you move you photos to the external HD, make sure to keep the original folder structure. If you have a parent folder containing all your photos, the move will be easier. LR will put a question mark on all your files and folder. If you have a parent folder, then right click it in LR, and direct LR to the new location on the external HD.

I have reduced apps and files as much as possible so the only thing left is to move the photos. If you really only want such a small capacity drive.. what about just buying a 32GB or 64GB USB memory stick.
You should still have a back up to the internal hard disk of the AC TC.
Or just buy a WD Passport.. don't waste your money buying 500GB as it is only a bit more to buy 1TB and a bit more again for 2TB.. For future use if you do buy a USB hard disk buy 2.5" type.. and buy 1TB or if the budget stretches 2TB..

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

Help, please. (iCloud storage full when it shouldn't be)

Hi folks. Need help re: iCloud storage. I own two Macs, an iPad (3rd gen), and iPhone 5. None of these uses iCloud for backups. My apps only take up about 20MB, and Mail takes up 407.8MB. And yet Settings says that my iCloud storage is full! I'm stumped and I don't know what else to do. Please help. Thanks.

Yes, that's what I meant my restart.
What happens if you add, say a new pages document.
Hold down the alt key after opening the Finders 'Go" menu, choose 'Library' from the menu, look in 'Mobile Documents' and let me know what you see, you can look in various folders at will, but don't go moving or deleting anything. Look for any large unexplained documents.

IPhoto & iPod As Photo Storage Query

I'm asking this question here, rather than in the iPod section as it is more of a query that photographers might know the answer to, than those interested mainly in music.
I know that it is possible to transfer digital images onto an iPod and synch the images between different Mac's. But, what seems less clear is what the best way is of using an iPod to backup images directly from a camera whilst out and about and then to transfer the images from the iPod into a computer afterwards. It seems like an obvious use for an iPod, as they are basically small hard disk drives anyway. I've found various solutions on Google, but most of these links are several years old and use third party devices connected on to the iPod from Belkin for instance.
Is there any simple way of doing this with a relatively modern iPod? I have two iPod classic models with 80GB capacities, which would be ideal for this kind of use. I know that most use iPod's for listening to music, but it would be nice for those of us who like using Mac's to be able to use an iPod for photography as well. Any hints would be welcomed.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

RAW & JPEG IN PHOTO STORAGE FOLDER

I just noticed in my photo storage folders, I have both a raw file and a jpeg file with the same photo number. The jpeg photo is the revised photo of the original raw file. Is this correct? I just noticed this after upgrading to 2.2.
I would assume the raw file is the unaltered file and the jpeg is the altered file that is displayed in Lightroom, but displayed as a raw file.

Forget my above post. I just found my problem. I export my photo's to my Zenfolio account using Jeffrey Friedl's "Export to Zenfolio" plugin and it is sending a reduced size JPEG copy of my export to the orginal folder.

In order to recover the tags/albums, etc, you need to have the catalog db. Since currently you only have images, the organization done in the older catalog is probably lost.
Which version of PSE you have and is there any chance, that you have access to catalog location (default is : %programdata%\adobe\elements organizer\catalogs on Windows and ~/library/app support/adobe/organizer/catalogs on MAC) ?

Can't retrieve iMovie project saved to DVD for storage and editing.

When I save my iMovie project to DVD for storage and possible future editing, I cannot retrieve it from the DVD. I get the message, "The project could not be opened, bacuase the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect..." How do I remedy that?

iMovie projects won't work with locked volumes (such as a DVD!). So you must first copy the project to the HD.

Old Toad tells me to burn a DVD from"Disk Utility", but will that burn my DVD so I can watch it on TV, or will it store those files on a DVD?

Disk Utility will create a data DVD for storage.
Ony iDVD will burn a video for playback with a DVD player or your Mac.
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.
