There is a very long thread on this topic here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1058380&tstart=90
The topic has mostly become quiet since 10.5.1 because that seems to have fixed most people's issue. But I see you are already running 10.5.1 so that is not helping in your case apparently. You might try reading the above thread backwards from the most recent posts to see if you get any other ideas for a fix. Good luck.

  • Removing a DVI to VGA adapter

Please, how do I remove the DVI to VGA adapter from my Mac Mini?

    Thank you, Mark,
Please note, this is a Mac Mini computer.
I have turned the screws on each side of the adapter counterclockwise until they are quite loose. But, the adaptor does not budge.
There are two finger buttons on the plastic sleeve of the adaptor, one on each side of the adaptor, but squeezing them while pulling on the adaptor does not seem to make any difference.
I called AppleCare, he said to loosen the screws on the side of the plug, then pull on the cord while gentlly jiggling the adaptor until it loosened and slid off. I'm assuming he meant the finger screws on the side of the plug on the lead in wire to the display because he did say to "pull gently on the cord" which wouldn't be there if I removed the plug.
    This did not work either.
I've looked at the schematic for the adapter on the Mac Mini help. I'm reasonable sure this is the adaptor but the picture does not show the plugin face of the adaptor.
To make sure: this adaptor has the two turn screws shown on the adaptor. It has the two finger spots shown on the adaptor. The face of the adaptor where the plug is to be inserted shows the two turn screws with a 5/8 " or so plug in area between them.
Is this the way it should look?

  • Mini dvi to vga adapter doesn't fit Mac Book port

I bought a "mini dvi to vga" adapter at the local Apple store at the mall and it does not fit the mini DVI connection on my Mac Book. What is the correct mini dvi configuration or part number for the Mac Book Mini dvi port?

It may be. I threw the bag out so I can't check. I was in a hurry and thought I picked up the right adapter but guess not.
Thanks for your help. Know anyone that needs a mini vga to vga adapter?

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

  • No signal via DVI to VGA adapter on my video projector Sharp PGM 15X

    Hi there!
I have a big problem with my video projector. It´s connected via mini DVI to VGA adapter to
the projector. The problem is, Mac OSX decect the projector but there is no picture.
To resize the solution on both, or one of them doesn´t help.
When I use my Bootcamp and reboot with Windows XP there is a picture on the video projector.
    I cant believe this.
What should I do to fix this problem?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?

  • Mini DVI to VGA adapter not working

    Hello -
I just purchased a new Mini DVI to VGA adapter to use with my Mac Book. The day I bought it I plugged it in and worked great! Now after disconnecting it and reconnecting back to my Mac Book things are not so good. When I hook everything up to each other the monitor shows "no signal". Using Systems Preferences/Detect Display does not help at all. Am I missing something obvious here? I'm a new Mac junkie.

Here is an Apple article on the subject of having no video on an external monitor. It's written about the Mac mini, but it applies equally to any other Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301345
And here is another Apple article that is more generalized and with fewer suggestions, though it might be a good place to start from. Good luck.

  • 2nd Monitor Connected Via DVI to VGA Adapter is Blurry

I have a G4 dual 1.42 GHz (the last G4 model) and have an Apple 20" Cinema Display connected to the ADC port and a 21" CRT monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter supplied with the G4.
The CRT monitor display is blurry. I have tweaked display settings in System Preferences and the monitor's controls and nothing helps. I used this monitor in a dual monitor setup on a Power Mac 9600/300 and it was razor sharp, so I know that the monitor is okay. I could pull a display card from the old Power Mac 9600 since it's not being used anymore, but I hate to add another card to the G4 because of the heat problems. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm wondering, is it to be expected that the monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter won't look anywhere near as good as if it were connected to a separate graphics card? Thanks.

  • DVI to VGA adapter. Too short?

    Hello.
Please do not blame me for being ignorant, I recently had to do a project and in order to connect to the screen, I need to use a DVI to VGA adapter, which is provided when I bought my MBP.
But then, isnt it too short? How do I connect it then? Must I buy a extension? Do help me as my project is due next friday and I must present next friday. Thank you.

    The sequence would be:
Mac > Adaptor > VGA cable > Monitor or projector
Right - except when actually hooking them up, they should be connected in the reverse of that sequence; the projector should be on and seeking an input, the cable and adapter should be connected, and the final step is to connect the adapter to the MBP.

  • DVI to VGA Adapter Trouble

I recently was able to figure out (I am not tech savvy) how to transfer video and audio from my Macbook to my TV with the DVI to VGA adapter. How to connect it is as far as my knowledge goes on the subject and now I have a problem. My computer froze during a video that was streaming and I had to reboot. Everything was still connected and after the restart the only image on my TV was (and still is) the desktop background when connected. It no longer transmits the video, nor does my computer images get large and fuzzy like it did before when connected either. Audio is unharmed. I understand I may have to get another cable but I don't understand why since it still transmits an image, just not all images. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like before the Mac was in mirror mode whereas now it is in extended desktop mode. If you go into System Preferences/Display there is a checkbox for turning mirroring on or off. Turn it on and things should go back to how they were before.

  • No video signal using mini dvi to vga adapter.

I just bought a macmini, the last generation. Separately I bought on the apple store a mini dvi to vga adapter because when I bought the macmini I forgot to buy that....once the adapter arrived I tried to turno on the mini, everything seems to be normal, the mini works, the audio signal is normal and after the startup it asks me to choose the language, but the screen says there's no INPUT SIGNAL. I tried another mini dvi to vga adapter, the vga wire works with my pc so I didn't try another one,I tried the reset of the mini,nothing....do I have to try with "miniport to vga" adapter or is there something else I can try?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?

  • Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter

I purchased a Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter for my MacBook (early 2008).
When I plug the cable into my MacBook it works fine, I have to drag the browser from my macBook onto my LCD using the curser. But when I do this with iTunes and I want to watch a film or music video there is no sound. Does anyone have any ideas of how to solve this problem or if im using it right.
    Please help.

Ah. Okay. Well you need to output the sound from your MacBook to your TV. You need another cable to carry the audio. You can use an 1/8 mini audio to TOSLINK (if your TV supports optical audio input) or 1/8" to RCA audio (those red/white cables).

  • Mini DVI to VGA Adapter Issues

    Hey guys,
My first ever post to the forums. I just recently bought my very first apple computer. It is a 2.4 ghz Macbook 13" and bought a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter so that I can connect it to my 46" Sharp AQUOS TV. I connect my laptop with the dvi to vga adapter plus another vga cable of course and all I get on the screen is my wallpaper but I can't see any of the icons on my tv screen, nothing.
Can anyone help me on this? Does this sound like a familiar problem?
    I would appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dogan

    Hi DoDolom,
    First, welcome to Macintosh!
Secondly, it sounds to me like what's happened is that OS X has extended your desktop onto a second monitor. Plug in an external mouse and keyboard and then close the MacBook's lid. It will go to sleep. Use the external mouse/keyboard to wake it up and you should be running on just the external display.

  • What is the correct part number for dvi to vga adapter for macbook pro model A1260

Can someone tell me the Apple part number for the DVI to VGA adapter that came with a Macbook Pro model A1260? (Early 2008)
My adapter has reached the end of useful life.
    Thanks!

You have a MacBook Pro 15" Early 2009 (MacBook Pro 4,1)
The Mac's port is a Dual-link DVI (VGA, Composite and S-video with adapter)
The DVI connector  connects to the Dual link-DVI port, thus you need a DVI to VGA adapter.

You also can search the Apple store online for the part, but it's so basic and simple that paying more for Apple's version is just for looks.
