Help editing /removing a email account

ive been trying to set up a email account in the email app
i must have done it wrong as its not working , but the edit button is greyed out and wont click
how do i edit/remove the wrong info so i can try again

Are you giving it away temporarily or permanently?
If temporarily, you could delete the email account or remove the account's saved password and uncheck the account's enable this account option.
If permanently, you should create a new user account for the new owner, then delete your user account. You may also have to reinstall the version of OSX that was originally licensed to the Mac and remove any applicable applications that are not transferable.

How can i remove the email account without deleting the email account?

I have an old email account which I want to remove from Mail, which I know how to do. However I don't want to delete these emails but rather park them off-site so that if I ever need them again I can easily re-import. By removing the email account in preferences it says it will delete all the emails etc. from my computer. Is my only solution to copy the emails to a different location, then delete the account and if needed re-import at a later date?

You can do a couple of things.
You can Export the emails to a .mbox file then Import them in which will create an Import folder in Mail; then delete your email account. Or you can just disable the email account leaving it in your list of accounts only disabled.

I have verizon.net email account that I had to update because verizon changed the incoming and outgoing servers.
Each of my family members has a separate profile on my Mac and I was able to successfully update their settings.
I have the admin account. No matter what I do, I can't get the new server settings to stick in MacOSX Mail.
So I tried to delete the email account via System Preferences. When I relaunch Mail or System Preferences, the account is stil there. When I try to delete the account from within Mail, I get an error message:
Account removal failed with error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to find an account for the UID given.”.
You can try deleting the account from the “Internet Accounts“ preference pane in System Preferences.

I had this problem on my 17" MacBook Pro. I just migrated to a Retina MacBook Pro using a Time Machine backup. Same exact problem. I'm thinking there's some bizarro preference thingy that is buried somewhere that needs to be removed.
Yes, I ran disk utility as well.

After closing mail I used a plist editor and edited:
/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
(as always TAKE A BACKUP)
I removed all key pairs to the offending account.
Voila.
Removed.

My apple ID is using an invalid email address...its really old. I want to change it to the email address I submitted for my resue email address. Itunes will not allow the change because the new email addy is already assigned as a rescue email. How do I change that so I can useit as my apple ID?

To edit or remove your rescue email address (from here) :
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address.
Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.

Need to remove old email account

An old gmail account shows up on my Torch 9800 in Setup-->Email Accounts as an Enterprise Account. It also appears as an Enterprise Activation icon on my Torch screen. Finally, it appears on Contacts-->Select Contact List. This gmail account was once on my Torch as an Internet Mail Account, but I deleted the account (from gmail and from the Torch). It no longer exists as far as Google is concerned. It never was and never should never have been an Enterprise Account, and I don't know how it became one. How can I completely wipe this gmail account from my Torch? Thanks in advance.

If you go to your phone's browser and follow www.blackberry.com/integrate , you should be able to deal with it from there.

EDIT: OK, apparently that's good for adding an account but not for deleting one. If you contact your carrier, they can either help you with it or can grant you access to their self-serve BIS site from where you can take care of your email account(s).

Help to set up email account

I bought a BB Torch 9860 from an electronics store in Dubai and then went to a provider (DU Mobile) to set up a BB account. All OK but then when I try to set up my email account, after entering the BB ID username and password, I get "unable to log in to your BB ID". I went back to the provider who told me: "not our fault, you must check with the shop that sold you the BB", Went to the shop who told me "nothing we can do, you must check with Blackberry". Checked some of your forums and found KB28212 but it doesn't work. I haven't tried to reset to factory settings yet because I am looking to see if there is a solution. PLEASE HELP!!!

Whenever I hear of problems setting up an email address, I immediately suggest typing www.blackberry.com/integrate in to the phone's browser and proceeding from there.
Give it a try and see if it gets you anywhere.

E71 removal of email account problem

When I got my E71 I used Sett. Wizard to add an email account.
The email account shows up in messaging but there are no options to remove it.
Does anyone know how to remove emails accounts.

You have to remove the mailbox. Open messaging-> settings- e-mail-> the mailbox itself-> delete.

Mail app not removing old email accounts

Hi,
I have mail accounts that I made in the internet accounts section of the system prefrences and then deleted not disapearing from my Mail App. they were deleted due to duplication of a google mail account and a few fails at getting an outlook account to work.
They are NOT now in the interenet accounts, how ever do show up in mail. If you go to the mail prefrences and try and remove them it sends you back to the internet accounts in the system prefrences where theyhave already been deleted. A second Quirk is that I thought I could just disable the unwanted google account howver when I do it disables the duplicae too.
How can I get mail to behave and remove the ghost accounts? this has partly happed as I wanted all my macs to use the same accounts over Icloud so when I turned it on, it doubled up accounts on my main computer, I then removed the non Icloud shared accounts,

If you search on this forum and compare popular web hosting providers like Bluehost, Hostgator and Godaddy you will see many users have such problems with their email apps. First it seems your problem comes from your cellphone. But it is surprising that I had the same problem when I had a web and email hosting account with Godaddy and their customer service couldn't solve my problem and finally I moved my email hosting account to Bluehost and the problem automatically was solved, without any action!
So I recommend to you and any other users with similar problems to change your email hosting provider. Now that you are unhappy with Godaddy I recommend to try http://www.bluehost.com or http://www.hostgator.com companies.
I have the S3 and don't have any problem with syncing my Hostgator email accounts. So If I were you first I'd try Hostgator.

If I uninstall thunderbird, will it remove all email accounts synced with it?

Uninstalling Thunderbird will not remove the profile. You'd need to deliberately delete the profile. The easiest way to do this is to use the profile manager.

Help - How To Add Email Account To ITunes

I’ve added a Gmail account to my iPhone (original model using iTunes 7.7 & OS 2.0) and Entourage and Mail applications. It works fine in both applications and the iPhone.
My problem is that it does not appear in the list of my older mail accounts in iTunes when I sync my iPhone. It appears that iTunes does not recognize the newly added Gmail account even though it is fully functional.
Does anyone know how to add an email account to iTunes so that its settings will be synced?

I am having the same problem. Two mail accounts on the computer but none show up in itunes. They did the first time I synced the phone and now they are gone, unfortunately the first time i synced I didn't sync the mail accounts and on the second sync I was going to set up the mail accounts but they've vanished. Thunderbird 31.3 Cannot edit or remove any email account settings

Tools, Account Settings. Account actions menu shows Set as Default and Remove Account greyed out. Click on any account and get the following Pop Up: An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name.

This is my problem too. I don't usually need to edit settings but yahoo or gmail have had temporary problems with their smtp servers, when they do I can simply go to account settings and change from one to the other. Now when I open the account settings window and left or right click on ANY account or setting for an account in the left tree I get the error window with this message:
"The Local Directory path "C:\Users\Len\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\dlcdrtl6.default\Mail\Local Folders" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory."
Clicking OK in the window brings up another message window with the same message as above:
"An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name."
I cannot exit the account settings box by clicking OK. I need to click cancel. This effectively makes it impossible to change any account settings. This worked a few months ago as I switched smtp servers when gmail had problems, now I'm screwed if I need to.
This is a problem with one of the new versions it should be marked critical as account settings need be configurable and I don't see any workaround like there is for pasting links.
