Help! Ethernet quit working on installation

I would appreciate any help with this problem. I recently upgraded from 10.2.6 to 10.4.3 and with the installation my ethernet port quit working. The Enet light on my cable mode doesn't even flash and the computer doesn't pick up the IP address from my ISP. Its like the Enet is broken, but when I run the computer in OS9 mode, it works fine. The only problem is when I run the new OS. I would appreciate any input on this problem, it has me stumped.

you might need to do a clean install - if the port works under OS 9 it is clearly not a hardware fault. Before doing a reinstall, might also try adding a new user name and see if the problem is there too, and/or go to the network prefs and delete the ethernet then add it back again. Does the ethernet port show up correctly in the System profiler?

I had a clean install of Lion and everything seemed to be working well. All of a sudden, after three days, my ethernet connection quit working. I can continue to connect through my Airport. I tried another computer on my wired network and it worked fine so I know the network is not at fault. Connecting the ethernet cable causes me to lose my connection even with Airport on. Any ideas?

Just got a call from the Apple Service rep. His solution worked-no idea why, but he said the problem was in some sort of "confusion" caused by the Location identification for the ethernet connection after the upgrade to Lion. Steps to fix the problem:
- Open System Preferences-Network
- Turn off Wi-Fi
- Select Ethernet and delete the connection (hit the - button at the bottom left)
- Hit the + button to establish a new connection. Select Ethernet in the dropdown next to Interface. Hit Create
- Select the Assist me... button at bottom, and then press the Assistant... button on the popup
- An Introduction screen appears which has a box with a Location designated for the new connection
- Hit Continue
- Select the appropriate modem being used to connect to the internet and hit Continue
- Hit Continue on the next screen
- Do not fill in any of the information on the screen that appears. Hit the Go Back button and then close out the Network Setup Assistant. Apparently, by going this far, you've established a new Location so no need to complete the setup if you've had an internet connection which was working.
At this point you're back on the Network Preferences screen, and my Ethernet connection reflected that I was connected and had an IP address. When I opened Safari and Chrome, both opened correctly with my home page and all seemed back to normal. I'll repost if the connection does not hold.
I hope this helps others with this problem.

Wired Ethernet Quit Working

I am running an HP laptop with Windows 8.1. For the past year or so I have used the wired connection without issue. The other day I get home from work to realize I have no network connection. As I went through troubleshooting steps I realized that there
is no wired Ethernet adapter in the device manager. All I see is this:

There just doesn't seem to be a wired adapter even recognized by Windows, flat out vanished! The wireless works just fine, however I would really rather use the wired connection for a lot of what I do. Some of the troubleshooting steps I have done so far:
1. run sfc /scannow
2. Run chkdsk
3. Ran a Windows Repair
4. Restored Windows using the restore partition
5. Found the manufacturer ethernet drivers and installed them hoping the adapter would show up
I'm starting to think that it may be a hardware issue, I've just never seen an integrated network adapter fail without other motherboard issues.Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. There are no "unknown devices" in device manager

don't have bluetooth, although I wouldn't understand why that would cause a problem suddenly, although we are talking about Windows here!
Some recent updates seem to have hit Bluetooth users and made it completely disappear too. For one of those incidents I suggested a WMIC query. Maybe a similar query would find something for you.
Unfortunately I don't have LAN ports on my Surface but on W10TP there apparently is at least one but no Bluetooth (that I can find) and (strangely?) this works on it:
wmic.exe sysdriver where (DisplayName like "%Blue%") list brief
I'll have to try to figure out how to identify whatever it is that W10TP thinks it has. BTW this will help me too because I am still not connected with it at all. ; )
Oh. sysdriver is not the right "alias". This works too but isn't showing me the "adapter"

Ok, so are you saying that your Internet is or isn't working? Does it work if you plug your computer directly into your computer and bypass the router (make sure you power cycle the modem when you do this)? If it is working this way, then a new modem isn't going to solve a problem with your Internet not working. If it is going slow (try running a speedtest) then you need to call your phone company to have them take a look at why your Internet is slow. If it runs fine this way and then slows back down when you go back through your router there is something else going on. Try unplugging both the modem and the router, let the modem fully sign back in and connect to the Internet, after it gets signed in, plug your router in, and then after it boots up fully, try running the speedtest again...See if that helps any? Sometimes it's just an IP conflict that happens when the dynamic IP that is assigned by your Internet Service Provider changes and the change doesn't flow smoothly.

Help Application in CS4 quit working

When I click "Help" in CS4 I get the following error message:
There was an error launching the Adobe Help application.
You may need to re-install the application and the Help component.
When I click Help in Bridge nothing happens.
I am running Windows Vista SP2.
I have reloaded everything on the Adobe CS4 installation disk. The same problem and symptoms remain.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated. I did a search and didn't come up with anything similar.

My problem with photoshop and CS3 is that they are triplicating the
photographs each time I launch and Adobe seems to continue to give me the excuse
they are working on the problem of catalogues they are aware
of..................... I am into my 4 th month with this problem and still have nothing
resolved.

Just tested something and it worked.
If I put the headphones all the way in, the mac recognizes it as a digital output.
But if i don't put it all the way in, it recognizes it as headphones and works perfectly.
It's probably this crappy headphones.
If anyone has the same problem, try this out.

If your external drive does not have an independent power supply, you may wish to consider a couple of lower-cost options before tossing the drive. Bus-powered drives have no external power source and must get all their power from the computer. They can exceed the computer's USB energy budget.
Cheapest option:
1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
This gets power from two of the computers USB porst sna can provide enough power to wake up an under-performaing bus-powered drive.
If you don't have enough ports to use this, try the next cheapest option:
Newer Technology 7 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter for Mac & PC
Such a hub has a an independent power supply to make up for wahat the comptuer fails to provide.

ok so I have had CS3 design suite for a few years now and I have never
had any problems, the past few months I keep getting errors saying the liscensing on this product has quit working and I need to uninstall and reinstall to fix it. I looked this problem up on the internet and found an article on adobe's site telling me to fix the flexnet issues and whatnot. I did everything it told me to do and photoshop still wont launch, continues to give me this error! I uninstall the program and reinstall and it works fine for about 3-4 days then starts this all over again...I am at the end of my rope here, cant get any work done cause photoshop is always down. Is the phone turned off = quit working?
try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for your phone to boot back up.

Have you tried closing the app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Angry Birds 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Angry Birds app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Hell-O? My PS CS2 just quit working? It said something about my monitor is out of sync? and then it says my ID or information is invalid???? Its been working for years!!! My Compaq presario CQ62 219 WM does not come on, no lights sounds nothing, the fan quit working a while back but it would auto shut down at 92 deg. occasionally, so it didn't run hot very often at all. Then one day the screen just went black with a cursor at the top left corner and wouldn't do anything, wouldn't let me turn it off or on, nothing at all and I had to let the battery die and now it don't do anything. The power cord works fine for another HP laptop I have, I have switched the hard drive and ram sticks and it didn't change anything, not even the power light that is supposed to be on at all times when the cord is plugged in don't come on... any help please? I have too much tied up into this notebook wih programs and such to lose it all, just to name a couple I have adobe creative suite 5, microsoft office pro, and others (I need these programs for my college classes ASAP I can not afford to re-buy the programs). I mean really the battery went out on it just 10 days before the initial 1 year waranty ran out luckily and then 10 days after it ran out of waranty the fan went out.. I am not so worried about having to replace the fan it is rather cheap on Ebayonly like 9.49 I believe it was, and not to mention other than it breaking down on me just as the waranty went I really liked this notebook as it was plenty fast enough and worked well with my assignments for college and such as well as all the other gaming and hobbies I have on the notebook.. I had planned to buy upgrades from tthis site and build it up some as I'll be needing a bigger one once I graduate and start using it for my carreer (bachelors in technoligy in web design and I plan to add to that with a few other associates and such to exspand my opertunities for a while all in computer/internet/graphics/gaming areas of study). I built my first desktop PC from several PC's each having something wrong with them I bought them cheap and combind them into a somewhat super computer (at least for a 15 year old it was nice PC to get started with), I never was tought anything to do it I just read up n studied a lil online and hammer down self taught Thanks in advance

I would first try a hard reset to see if it bring the computer back to life.
To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for 5 seconds)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
This will completely remove all power from the computer and then reintroduce the power, which sometimes resolves these types of issues. Are you about to see the power on screen or get into the BIOS when you turn it on?

thanks for the quick reply. I had the same idea already yesterday. I use Norton Internet Security for a long time now without any problems. I think this a Apple or Microsoft problem, because the popup window which appear come from Windows DEP. I got no message from the firewall with any problem. I check the log files from Norton and Windows already but find nothing. This is a very strange problem. In the past I have had a lot of other problems with iTunes upgrades. Everytime I accept the installation of the newest version I got errors regarding missing "msi" files.
