Help Extending Range for Itunes music

My goal is to get my itunes music from my computer out to my backyard which is over 125 feet away though a few walls. This is what I have: Verizon FiOS, a Time Capsule, newer Airport Express with 802n an an older Airport Express. I've been trying to connect them all to extend range but can't seem to get it to work. First, is it possible with what I have and Second can anyone give me step by step. The last thing I tried to do was use the "extend network" in airport utility. All three have green lights and they show up in the itunes windows but no sound is coming out. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello sierra111. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
My goal is to get my itunes music from my computer out to my backyard which is over 125 feet away though a few walls.
To cover that distance, you would have to configure your base stations for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), using the Time Capsule (TC) as the main, one AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as the relay, and the other AX as the remote base station in this WDS.
I've been trying to connect them all to extend range but can't seem to get it to work
Unfortunately, you won't be able to take advantage of the "extend" feature as this is only available for the 802.11n AirPorts. Since you will adding an 802.11b/g model, you are limited to a WDS ... which only operates in the non-"n" radio mode.
Here are the basic steps to set up the WDS:
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, place the base stations within near proximity of each other during the set up phase, and then relocate them to their desired locations when complete. Also, jot down the AirPort IDs (MAC addresses) for each of the base stations to be used in the WDS. The AirPort ID and is printed on the label on the bottom/side of the base station.)
Main Base Station Setup - TC
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the TC.
o Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
o Select the TC, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of the relay base station (AX#1).
o Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
Relay Base Station Setup - AX#1
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar to join the wireless network created by AX#1.
o Open AirPort Utility.
o Select AX#1, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the TC from the Channel pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and choose “WDS relay” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Enter the AirPort ID of the TC in the Main AirPort ID field.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of the remote base station (AX#2) this relay base station will connect to.
o Click Update to transfer the new WDS settings to the relay and remote base stations.
Remote Base Station Setup - AX#2
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by AX#2.
o Open AirPort Utility.
o Select the remote base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and again, choose the same channel as the TC.
o Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
o Enter the AirPort ID of AX#1 in the WDS Main field.
o Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.

I have old email address's I used for iTune music purchases and cannot change password on several old accounts. Now some of the music I purchased I can not download and authorize it on my device. What can I do password security does not match my birthdate on two of the accounts. Apple can not send me email with a password authorization on several current accounts that I have with them. How can I contact Apple with this annoying problem I can not fix.

settings - app/iTunes store - sign out and sign back in with your new id.
Note - if your older apps needs an update it will use your old apple id and password, as Apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase it.
    You can't merge apple id.

  • Should I create a partition on external drive for iTunes music?

Should I create a partition on external drive for iTunes music? or will it create it's own space outwith my backup stuff?
I see no good reason to create a separate partition unless you're backing up with Time Machine. TM prefers to have it's own volume, so in that case partitioning would probably be a good idea.

No, probably not. As long as you're not getting the drive too full - opinions vary but about 20GB remaining should be plenty for most uses - you probably won't see any overall change in performance just from moving the iTunes content.

I am seeing Item Not Available in the U.S. store for iTunes music on the iPhone 6Plus. Is anyone else seeing this?
The other sections of the iTunes store seem to have errors as well.

I've seen a couple of other threads in the last 10 minutes posting about problem with the store, both have now replied saying that it's working again for them - you could give it another go and see if it's now ok for you

  • Best practice for iTunes' music folder

i keep my music on an external drive, but want itunes to be able to play the songs.
currently, the itunes music folder is set to its default location. i changed the preference to prevent iTunes from copying music to this location. i added music to iTunes using File | 'Add folder to Library' menu.
my friend, who also has his music on an external drive, set his itunes music folder to the Music folder on his external drive.
what are the differences between these two approaches? what are the issues?
is there a best practice for using iTunes w/ music stored on an external drive?
    thanks for your time.

    Thanks Paul for helping
I am getting the symbol and can locate the song but it is very time consuming and I can't do whole albums .
I tried dragging the entire music folder into iTunes . Is this it , iTunes Music Library.xml ? These are all the files and folders I found
iTunes 3 Music Library Data file
iTunes 4 Music Library Data File
iTunes 4 Music Library (Old) Data File
    iTunes Music folder
    iTunes Music Library.xml document
    Temp File Document
I unchecked the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder "
before I dragged the xml. doc into the iTunes symbol in the dock .
This seems to have made matters worse . Now I can't find the file at all except through the finder .

  • Sync iPod with iTunes - reduce network bandwidth for iTunes music folder

I'm using a network drive for my iTunes music folder. Average bandwidth is 50Mbps, compared to, say, an external USB HDD with hi-speed USB bandwidth of 750Mbps.
For some reason iTunes needs to consult the files in the iTunes music folder when syncing an iPod. That is, it needs to access the music files even when there is no change and no files actually need copying from the music folder to the iPod.
Because iTunes is reading my music files, it's really slowing down a sync.
How do I get iTunes only to look at my music folder when there's a file to copy. Reading each file just for a sync is consuming resources and I can't see that it's necessary - iTunes knows what is in my music folder as it has the library xml file stored locally on the PC hosting iTunes.
Anyone have any advice here ?
    Thanks.
PS have posted this Q twice before with no replies. Hopefully yet another paraphrase to make the question more relevant with get some help from a kind soul out there.
    Here's a link to my previous post(s): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=802961

On my Mac, if the external drive with iTunes library is not connected, it will error out and ask if I want to keep looking for the files.
I'm using a network drive for my iTunes music folder. Average bandwidth is 50Mbps
Why so slow? Is it wireless? What kind of connection is it?
iTunes also wants to know if there is a file to delete or if there is a file that has changed.
an external USB HDD with hi-speed USB bandwidth of 750Mbps
USB 2.0 theoretical max speed is 480Mbit/s. Realistic max speed is ~60% of that.
iTunes knows what is in my music folder as it has the library xml file stored locally on the PC hosting iTunes.
iTunes does not use the library.xml file. It is simply created for other applications to access iTUnes library.

  • Problem in using 2 IDs for iTunes music purchase downloads and using iTunes Match for 1 ID

    Dear support managers,
We are using 1 macbook pro and 2 apple ID for purchasing iTunes music together (Me and my wife).
Actually, I have bought 1 year service of iTunes match on my apple ID and have been using well the service after download the purchased musics under the apple ID I am using.
But once my wife associated the macbook pro with her apple ID to download the musics she purchased,
I have not been able to use the iTunes Match service I have subscribed already.
    The message said
"This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days"
I can neither purchase another computer for solving this situation nor want to purchase another iTunes Match service on my wife's apple ID.
Please help me out to solve this issue.
    Thanks and best regards,

    Hi,
You can only use one Apple ID with iTunes match. Purchasing another match subscription using wife's Apple ID is not a solution. I can only suggest that you use your ID for match and all iTunes music purchases.

  • Help using ipod for photos, music, and video

Guys, I received an IPOD classic 80gig months ago with a college class that I took. I thought it was really neat at the time as I could watch the videos. However, now I'm so glad that it came free with the class and honestly can't understand how anyone can figure out how to operate it. I have photos, music, and videos that I would love to download to the IPOD and watch but after months of reading and rereading the IPOD features guide, I still have no clue how to do it? I'm a college graduate, made the Dean's list. Smart guy, doesn't seem to help me. The features guide will tell you to go to this folder, etc, BUT when I plug my IPOD in there are only like 4 folders that exist! Where are those folders that they are talking about?? I downloaded some photos on my computer into a folder, dragged and dropped them onto my ipod and when I turn the ipod on it says NO PHOTOS!! Same thing happened with my videos and my music? I have a relative in a nursing home who wants me to show her some family photos. I wanted to IPOD those photos and bring them to her. Can't figure it out! Audiobooks??? No way I'll ever figure out how to do that! Are you guys ALL BRAIN SCIENTISTS OR WHAT???

Thanks Neil, for trying to help me put. I actually figured out how to use the notes. I couldn't believe it worked. I was disappointed to see my notes "cut off" as I guess it has a 4000 character limit, I believe it is. Maybe I'll do a search for itunes software on google and try to figure it out. I don't know if the itunes software is free. You know, not for nothing Neil, but I'm suprised an IPOD classic costs over $250.00 and all they give you is a quick start guide. You have to go to the internet to find a copy of the features guide. That's like buying a new car and not getting an owners manual with it. Odd. Thanks again for trying to help me out.

  • Alias for iTunes music on external drive?

I am trying to create an alias for my music so that when I click on the iTunes icon in the dock of my external HD (OS10.5.8) it points back to iTunes on my internal HD (OS10.6.2). Below are the instructions I received when I called Apple Support:
+Create alias to the 10.6 Volume/Users/'home'/Music/iTunes folder by holding down Command-Option and dragging this folder into a 2nd finder window open to the 10.5 Volume/Users/'home'/Music folder. This causes iTunes to access the same iTunes library as the 10.6 volume+
Virtually the same instructions for creating an iMovie alias worked perfectly. But try as I might, I can't achieve the same result in iTunes. Can anyone help?

Can you say all of this again and word it differently?
I'm not quite getting it and maybe if you say it again another way it might sink in.
Maybe back up and describe your end goal. What is it you want itunes to do? What functionality are you looking for by creating an alias?

  • HELP!! Moved iTunes music to new comp, but playlists are GONE!!!

Ok, I've posted a couple times now, gotten no helpful responses as of yet, so here goes another attempt:
I just got a new computer. My iTunes music was stored on an external harddrive. I was able to get the music to show up in the iTunes library on the new computer, but
1.) All the songs are checked. I had a specific 900(or so) out of my 10,000 songs selected, for ease of syncing my 4GB iPod Nano. I don't want to have to go through every single song to uncheck the ones that were unchecked before. What can I do?
2.) I have dozens of playlists, some hundreds of songs long. Now, in the new iTunes on the new comp, the playlists are GONE. How can I restore them(other than putting them together one song at a time)?
3.) Some of the album artwork is gone. Some isn't. What gives? How can I restore the missing artwork?
4.) How can I make sure that new iTunes purchases are stored on the external harddrive, not the new comp's harddrive?
That's it for now. Someone PLEASE help, this is a major pain....

Chris CA answered most of your questions in your other posts.
You need that iTunesLibrary.itl file from your old PC.
That's the way iTunes was designed, the way it works, and if you want your play lists and checkmarks back, you need to get it back.
Here is a good article on that - scroll down to the section titled
*iTunes: The Database versus the Content*
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
Your exHD needs to have the same drive letter as it did on your old system, too.

  • Need some help managing a (large) iTunes music library

Hopefully someone can help me with my problem(s).
Over time I've accumulated a lot (40,000+) of music in my iTunes and recently I've noticed a lot of dead tracks (shown as "!" next to track)appearing in my library and I can't find the music file in my iTunes music folder.
The good thing is I have a backup of my (most 35,000+) music on an external hard drive. And from the looks of it most of the missing tracks are in my backup drive.
    My questions are:
    1. Where do these tracks go? and why are they getting 'lost'?
    2. What would be the best way to get back these missing tracks (1,000+) back into my library? I can do the whole import (from external drive) process again, but this would create duplicates and I will have a library of 75,000+ songs, half of which will be duplicates.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

The ! shows up when files get moved, renamed, or deleted.
Many times it is an accidental "renaming" when windows changes an external drive letter without telling you.
For example, if a path to a song is F:\itunes\artist\album song one day, and then you plug in a digital camera card. Windows reassigns F: to the camera card and now the path to the song is G:\itunes\artist\album.
Myself, I would do a Get Info and find them one by one, maybe 30 tracks per day.
If you want to re-add them all, you can sort by Date Added and get rid of the duplicates as explained here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2905
There are also little free programs on the web that say they will fix issues like these, but I don't know any to trust.

  • Using Time Capsule as External Drive for iTunes Music Folder in iTunes 9

First, prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard and iTunes 9, I had my 210 GB of music on a 1TB Time Capsule which I accessed wirelessly through my Macbook Black and I set my path to the "iTunes Music (External) Folder" I created on the Time Capsule as the default path for iTunes to access the iTunes Music (External) Folder. My iTunes Library and Album Art reside on the Macbook hard drive. Unless I opened iTunes when the Macbook was disconnected from the Time Capsule (e.g., not at home), it always remembered the drive path the next time it was opened and would play music fine. If I had to reset the drive path, iTunes would remember it (again, unless I was disconnected from my Time Capsule). Now, under iTunes 9.0.1 and Snow Leopard, iTunes always defaults back to the iTunes Media Folder on the Macbook each time I open iTunes even if I set the path to the Time Capsule. The TC is also used as my airport connection to the cable modem and Home Sharing is enabled. Oddly, iTunes seems to play music just fine even though the drive path to the iTunes Music (External) Folder is not being utilized, which it would not do under the old version of iTunes. A screenshot is below. Anyone know what is going on here?
    /Users/seanrichardson/Desktop/Screenshot_1.png

Make sure the Time Capsule is ready and mounted before launching iTunes.
You can add it (the Time Capsule) to your Login items in System prefs -> Accounts.
