HELP! Extremely Worried for Film Project (lost files) (please read urgent)

Okay so here is the dilemma-
Here I am tonight, plugging away at the editing process for a short film that I filmed in California back in February, and have had various other film producers and buddies filming at random times out there since. I had all of my footage on a WD Storage drive (this included pretty much all of the video files), and I had already imported all of the files into premiere and was about to begin editing the footage with them. Suddenly, I noticed that I was going low in memory space on my hard drive that I was working on, so I saved my Premiere File, then selected it, dropped it over into the WD Storage Drive that also contained all the footage from the film, and clicked on it to open it from there. However, when I opened the premiere file this time, it asked me to located "MVI_6104.mov", the first .mov file out of 400 that I had in there... and I couldn't find it. I looked for the source files in the new hard drive I'd just moved my premiere file into (where they just were at), i looked for them in my old hard drive, and in the three additional hard drives I have sitting next to my Mac... but the files had simply vanished without a trace. I checked the trash, nothing, and I havent deleted any files all night. They're simply gone, and I've hand combed every inch of every hard drive... will someone please help me? Without this footage I am dead and I am willing to get it back at all costs. Already ran a few of the free data recovery scans, but to no avail.. they picked up nothing. I literally have no idea what happened and I am currently having a panic attack. Thank you so much for your time and I really hope you can help me find an answer.

The files used to be in a clearly marked folder on my hard drive labelled "Death Rides The Apocalypse Source Files" (the name of the film). I've searched every hard drive I own for the files and nothing. I can't find even a trace of them existing in the first place. The entire folder that used to be there is gone along with the files! Very strange.

Thanks. I searched the external drive first with data deletion recovery services, then by myself and I hand combed through all of the folders and video files. I even specifically searched the drive for file names in case I missed something, but nothing. I run OS X 10.6.8, and Premiere Pro CS5.5 The original source files were on the external hard drive with a tetrabyte of space that I attempted to move the PPro project onto, but now their original folders, names, files and everything have literally vanished. The project file doesn't matter since I just started editing but I lost all of the footage in there. The external hard drive still has around 765.3 GB of space left so I doubt I killed it simply moving a project over , but you never know. It was odd, when I moved it, the "Move In Progress" window with the twisting progress bar flashed for a second that it was to move 186.5 GB (which would accurately be around the amount of footage we had), but suddenly flashed and just moved it over in a second. Maybe this will shed some light. I'm extremely confused and worried. Thank you.

Help Required - Ran "Repair Permissions" and lost files

I was having a few unknown errors with my computer lately... (iBook G4, Purchased November, 2005) I was unable to print, OS 9 was not loading, and everything was really slow.
When looking around in my computer (Only been using a Mac as long as I have had this computer), I found the disk utility and figured that would be a good place to start. After running the "Repair Permissions", I was pleased to see my computer was running quicker, and my programs were opening properly.
Now...The problem....
I used to have a fairly cluttered desktop...and as of a few weeks ago, I took everything, and put it into a new folder in the Hard Drive. After the Repair was finished, I found that particular folder was deleted. My Trash was still empty, and when searching for that folder, sub folders, and programs there, they were no where to be found. Also, it appears it was only this folder (It was called Main Directory if that helps at all) that was deleted.
I have noticed, that a few of the programs deleted do have files in the "Cache" folder....But I don't know what good that does me.
Any help in recovering these lost files would be greatly appreciated
PS. Yes....I have learned now not to poke around and run utilities that I don't know what they really do...at least without backing up my hard drive.

My internet has started running extremely slowly for no apparent reason. Please help?

The internet on my Macbook suddenly started running very slowly, it can take 5-10 minutes to load a page. This isn't a problem with my internet connection as our other devices are working fine. I have tried installing updates but seems to be too slow for them to install and have also reset Safari.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Is it time for a new SSD? Please read my story, my battle with my M4 Crucial SSD

This is whats been happening the past couple of days and what I have been doing to try and isolate what is causing my fresh win7 install to have so many issues running. IMO, i've narrowed it down to be an issue with my SSD, and not my RAM. Please read, and advise. So I changed out my p8z68 MB and ivy bridge CPU for a new maximus VII hero and Devils Canyon Haswell cpu. After installing windows I noticed it was running sluggish and would not install updates successfully or without crashing.Over 3 attempts of reinstalling win7 64bit. The build kept crashing, failed to fix windows startup, MBR error 01 or getting the BSOD. I firt tested my RAM... I ran memtest86 with 100% pass and found and isolated that 1 of the 4 x4gb of my Black Vengeance Corsair ram had errors on it (ram is 3 years old in use). I ended up taking those out and replacing with brand new 2 x 4gb Gskill sniper sticks I had still in packaging. I re-ran Memtest86 on the new RAM just to be sure and ....no errors. I want to emphasise that by now I've reinstalled window 3 times on this build upgrade....noticing a lot of lag, in windows after fresh install . Especially when opening programs like windows update windows as well as other things like, device manager or even a Web browser. If I have more than one window open. My hard SSD LED on my front panel, lights up like it's busy, browser and programs freeze or I get a program "not responding" error, on top until I wait it out...then it disapears. Finally I did another OS install..this time and after much research, I made sure to run a Secure Clean All, on my Crucial M4 SSD (it too has been used for the past 3 year). I had already updated its firmware to 070H a long time ago. I also made sure I had the most current Intel, SATA, VGA, LAN, and sound drivers were downloaded. Durring Windows update it reached 140 of 149 updates before receiving a BSOD again even with the new ram! After Reboot... I went in and this time before running Windows update...again, I made sure all my services were closed and did a "CLEAN" Boot to windows. Doing this finally made my system able to dowload all the updates successfuly. Ok so now that Win7 is fully updated, I got my antivirus ..norton on. More updates, with little issue. But I still notice while my SSD is writing, I say thats what its doing when my computers fornt panel LED is flashing, that the program / software/ game im installing freezes, until it has a chance to "Catch up" , Or install fails, or for instance dowloading patches, updated to games..they have been failing oh and just now for the second time...SKYPE has disconnected itself giving me a I/O error. So these are all my symptoms and what I've tried. To my knowlege the M4 SSD model doesnt have any kind of software to help aid in determining its health . And is why I am here now typing to you all . Is it time to get a new SSD?? What else can I try? Thanks, Christopher.

Is the system overclocked or with default clocks?
Note that your motherboard has two SATA controllers, Intel Z97 with SATA6G_1-6 red connectors and ASMedia controller also with red connectors SATA6G_E1/2. Are you using Intel or ASMedia controlled port?
What do you mean by 'Secure Clean All', what exactly did you do? It is probably not relevant to former issues but note that some tools do 'overwrite with zeroes'. It is not good for SSDs and works completely different than ATA command 'secure erase'.
Check what SATA port is being used and if it is Intel make sure what driver version is in use. You can check it with Device manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> right click on the selected controller -> Properties -> Driver tab
To check health of the SSD you can use CrystalDiskInfo. Please post SMART data of the drive - use 'Edit > Copy' option, just please remove drive's serial number.

Exporting audio for film project

hi all
i am doing a over dub for are uni film in stp, have use a video file as reference which had no audio on it. however when i have finish the over dub and export the audio as a mixdown at samp rate 48hz because it is going back into a avid project the video and audio do not sync up with each other. the video file that i have us for reference is a copy of the avid project time line. hope some one can help me new to using stp.

did not explain very well in above question, had to do an entire over dub for a film that we had edited in avid. to make the process quicker i decided to do the over dub using sound track pro. i placed a copy of the film that had being edit in avid as a copy of the time line in stp as a reference . competed the over dub and exported it as a wave audio file, with the setting of 48khz sample rate 16 bit rate. However when i place it back into the avid project it was totally out of snyc.have tried it in different software e.g. final cut, cubase but it is all ways goes out of snyc. please help as i am new to stp and need to get project handed in

Best program to retrieve lost files, please help...

Alright, long story short- I'm a complete ***. I had to do a complete erase and re-install of OSX on my G4 466 and after the fact I realized that I failed to copy one of my most important folders. I've managed to lose ALL of my work portfolio pictures and every digital photo I've ever taken. Eehhh. I'm in shock. Anyway, I realize that there is probably no chance of retrieving the lost folder or files from my newly formatted drive. I do however have an old drive that once had them on it two weeks ago in my old G4 450. Does anyone have any advice on what software may give me the best option of recovering the files? Or if I have any chance at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

This one would require another HD with plenty of space to recover to, and don't boot from that 450's drive.
They have a free demo to see what it could recover.
As for your internal erased drive, likely only an expensive Data Recovery Service or the FBI/NSA could recover that info.

Help! Audio for 16mm project, material to FCP and back again to 16mm

I am getting ready to send an AIFF file of the audio I created on FCP, working with video that was created from a 16mm to video transfer at my lab. They tell me the transfer was a non-drop frame transfer. The lab made a digital file from the transfer, which I imported into a FCP project with 23.98 sequence settings.
I want to compare the frame length of my WP to that of my video file so that I can determine how the audio house who will be transferring the AIFF to mag needs to compensate, and I am confused about how to measure the video file's frame length. If the sequence settings are at 23.98 fps, and the project runs from 1:00:05;12 to 1:11:49;08, to determine the frame length should I be assuming there are 24 frames per second or 30?
I don't have access anymore to the FCP so I can't check but a basic question is: if the sequence setting are set to 23.98fps, does that mean the timeline only has 24fps? When I convert at 30fps, my video file is 22 frames longer than my WP...

When your project and sequence settings are at 23.98, it is for two main reasons. 1. ou are working with video footage shot at 23.98 and 2. you are working with film (24 fps), which was ultimately telecined to video which runs at 23.98. This is mainly implimented because you plan on either going back to a higher resolution "online" which you will be synching up the timecode with a better quality copy of the tape at a coloring house, or you will be using the edl from the 23.98 sequence to give to a negative cutter, so they can cut the negative correctly according to the timecode and how it links with the keycode.
I assume you are making a final product that will be on celuloid- an actual film print, not a video copy. is this correct?
Please clarify the following: did you shoot on film, get a telecine to a beta or dvcam, do you have a timecode burn-in on the tape and when you captured the clips into final cut, did you utilize Cinema Tools?
If you did run your clips through cinema tools, did you do it correctly (starting the process on the "aa" frame).
Is your project set to 23.98 or just your sequence? when you place captured clips onto the timeline do they have to be rendered? Is this a sync project or was it shot MOS?
And lastly, as I previously asked, are you sending all of your negative, the edl from FCP and the aiff to a negative cutter?

Save Location for Color Projects & Rendered Files

I would love to change the HD that color saves everything to - I have an internal media drive I'm saving all my FCP media to and would love to keep Color's files there as well... Any thoughts on how to do this?

Go Setup > User Prefs
At the top of the page are:
Default Project Dir: This sets where your project files are saved.
Default Media Dir: This sets where your source files are generally found (I set it to the top level of my capture HD).
Default Render Dir: This sets where Color will create a folder - named the same as your project - and will render into.
Once altered these settings are persistent.
You can also go Setup > Project Settings and change on a per-Project basis where that project should place its render files but all new projects will still revert back to your Default Render Dir as shown in the User Prefs.
Hope this all makes sense.

Help with Audio for Premiere Project

Working on a lengthy project and need some help with audio which is not my specialty!
I am recording using a Sony EX1r and a wireless lav mic,     OK. Here is what is happening.
When I import the clip into project I get Audio from the left speaker.   If I burn a DVD and playback on home player with surround sound, I get audio out of just the left speaker which makes sense.    SO I go to Premier and use "Fill Left" which fixes the audio on my computer and get sound from left and right speakers.    The odd thing is that when I play this version back from DVD on the surround sound system, the audio now only comes from the CENTER speaker. I dont get anything out of left OR the right speaker so it sounds hollow.
I am sure I am missing something obvious so please be kind.
Is there an easy way to get my audio to come out of Left, Center, and Right speakers (and rear for that matter) ???

The DVD player is a Sony BluRay and the receiver is an Onkyo AV receiver HT-R380.
My thinking is that it is something that I am doing wrong inside Premiere vs something that the DVD player or receiver is doing.    My final product will need to play on a variety of DVD players so I need to get it right.
It just seems odd that my default output DVD provides sound to the left speaker but then removes it when I fill Left.
Am I setting up my audio tracks wrong? Or should I being doing something with a 5.1 track???

Help! code for specifying .vtt caption file doesn't work!

I hope this is something simple.....
I'm writing plain jane HTML5 code to play .mp4s on mobile devices that won't play Flash content. I HAVE to have them accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing, so they have to be captioned. I have the caption files for everything, in .vtt format (which this stuff is supposed to recognize).

When I hit the link to this page in a browser, the CC button appears for just a second or two....then it disappears. The video plays fine. On mobile devices, the video plays fine and the CC option is always there (on some devices) but turning on CC doesn't do anything.
Have I missed something simple? I'm on a serious deadline and this has stonewalled me.

#1 You're going to need more than 1 MP4 file type as some browsers don't support MP4s. I typically use MP4, OGV and WEBM to cover all bases.
#2 Refer to this Mozilla development article on adding captions to videos. Pay close attention to the Caption Menu CSS and scripts.

I do not need a subversion tool( cvs,svn etc) or a automation build tool ( luntbuild, cruisecontrol, anthill) , I am looking for some tool,that helps you manage the release after its made.For example,i would like to track down which release was made to which customer on which date,how many releases were made to any particular customer,what source code was shipped to the customer..and so on....
Is there any such tool that can accomplish this???

Help with Format for DVD Project

I have been using FCP to create video with two tracks of audio (one instrumental & one vocal).
I want to learn about format for output to DVD. I have exported as QuickTime movie and stereo downmix so that I have one track of audio in DVDSP and when it plays on 2 speakers I have the two channels of audio - one on instrumental, one vocal. Cool. To get that I must use Custom Settings as I learned from another thread posted here last week or so.
Question #1:
+What format do I use when I enter that custom setting window for the Aspect Ratio?+ I think it should be 4:3, yes?
Question #2:
Maybe I should be using Compressor. If yes - +how do I get those 2 tracks in FCP to get into that stereo downmix format? How do I get the 2 separate audio files in to compressor and output to DVDSP?+
If in that process I end up with 1 video file and 2 audio files and import those assets into DVDSP, +Will I be able to have one audio track that has 2 channels? or will I be able to have 2 audio tracks that play on two different speakers?+
I seem to be able to get the results I want most of the time, but I am basically phutzing around and somehow God honors it - I wish I knew more what I was doing.

Depends on the source material, if it is 4:3 then 4:3 would be proper if it is 16:9 (HDV or anamorphic would in all likelihood be the ones you are using (?) then 16:9 would be the aspect ratio

In older version of AC3 encoder (a.Pack) you could use two seperate files in and assign left right
To export each side individually you should mute one audio track then export the other then reverse to get the other file (also look at page IV-147, IV-151 of the Final Cut Pro Manual - Chapter is called Exporting Audio for Mixing in case we looking at different versions)
But if you bring the two audio files into DVD SP like that you will hear only one audio track (in DVD SP) at a time.
If you take a look at Chapter 7 Page 96, Page 100 of the PDF (at least in the PDF I just popped up, not sure which Compressor you are running, it is in the section Creating Dolby Digital Professional Files) it describes the encoding selections a bit more.
Are you running into an issue? Sounds like you are not (which is good )

How To Capture Sync Sound for Film Project

Wisdom from the Greater Good Sought OR Please Point Me in the Right Direction
Gearing up to shoot and edit an independent feature. Everything shot on film (16 and 35) sound recored on DAT. Film will be Xfered to DV and DVCPRO HD. DV will be cut on new Powerbook G4 using offline RT. Online (still using FCP) will then be done on a G5 using the HD tapes. Should we sync the DAT audio with the film to DV and HD Xfer - or capture seperately with a DAT deck into the powerbook and sync up with FCP? Syncing during the film to tape Xfer seems the simplest - but may end up eating too much of our limited budget. What sort of workflow issues will I be in for if we decide to bring the DAT into the computer separately? What else do I need to consider?
Any thoughts, ideas, warnings appreciated. Thanks.

What Jerry says. About the only thing to be done with the DATs after that is pulling off all the wild tracks for the sound portion of the edit.
Locling them up in fcp is, to my way of thinking, a TERRIFIC waste of time and offers you the most potential headaches when thinks get unlinked.

HELP: Media Management for TIFF- JPG- PSD-Files

I work a lot with pictures in my present videowork. Everytime I change something in Photoshop, the change is not automatically updated, when I return to Final Cut.
The picture is set offline and eveytime I had to do the same enoying procedure to get it online again and updated.
Is there a way to make Final Cut updating changes of pictures automatically?

You have to check a box in User Preferences. I don't now how it is in English, I'm working with a German FC. In German:
User Preferences -> Bearbeiten -> Extern bearbeitete Dateien immer erneut verbinden
