Help figuring out ClassCastException

I inherited an unfinished (undocumented and uncommented) program from another programmer (now gone), and I'm trying to figure out a ClassCastException that gets thrown at runtime.
The program contains a lot of custom classes for table manipulation. The two key classes here are TableIndex, and TableSorter. Their inheritance hierarchy is as follows:
TableSorter extends TableMap
TableMap extends AbstractTableModel
AbstractTableModel implements TableModel
TableIndex implements TableModel.
At some point, a JTable is created that has a TableIndex as it's model:
TableIndex ti = new TableIndex();
JTable table = new JTable(ti);Later on, this call is made, and it throws a ClassCastException:
(TableSorter) table.getModel();table.getModel() returns a TableIndex, which is being (illegally) cast to a TableSorter. Looking up the inheritance chain, both TableIndex and TableSorter are derived from TableModel. Why, then, is this not working? Is this problem because both classes are not extended from the same superclass? Can someone tell me where the break is?

a cast doesnt convert the programm, it only "unhides" methods which the static type hides.
every class extends object, hence you can always write Object o = new Bleh();
however you can only access the methods declared in object on o. if you cast it to (Bleh) all the additional methods you wrote come available(they were always there, you just hid them)
now if you have another class Blub, and you attempt to do (Blub)o, you will get an error, since o isnt of the type Blub(its Bleh). you will get an error, since o cant offer you all the methods you declared in Blub.
in your particular case TableIndex would hav to extend TableSorter in order for this cast to work.

If you were using Apple's BootCamp and received this message, quit it and open Disk Uility in your Applicaitons/Utilities folder.
Select the Macintosh HD partition on the left and select Erase and Erase Free Space > Zero option and let it complete (important) this will check the spare space for bad sectors that can cause issues formatting partitions.
Once it's completed, try creating a partiton again in BootCamp.
If that doesn't work, then hold command option r keys down while connected to a fast internet connection, Internet Recovery should load (spinning globe) and then in that Disk Utility, select your entire internal drive and click > First Aid > Repair Disk and Permissions.
    reboot and attempt Bootcamp again.
If you still get a error, it might be that you have OS X data on the bottom area where BootCamp partition needs to go. This would occur if you had the drive or computer for a long time or wrote a large amount of files to the drive and nearly filling it up and then reduced some, but it left traces in the area BootCamp needs to go.

I have a mac 10.5 and need help figuring out how to change my email settings so it does not automatically delete my inbox every 30 days.  How to I adjust the mail settings?

I think it must be an IMAP account then, & in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced>Keep copies for Offline viewing:>Don't keep copies, then on the Server, or maybe it's just this one itself, but on the Server you have a setting to remove eMails after 30 days.
If it's a POP account we'd have to investigate that... but you didn't say so I'm guessing here.

Enable the Sort Artist, Album Artist and Sort Album Artist columns so you can see what is going on. Album Artist normally takes precedence over Artist, with the Sort fields further controlling the order.

  • Help figuring out how to tell if an object is within a dynamically made circle

    Hello Everyone,
I am currently in the middle of working on a project but sadly I am having a bit of trouble getting a few things figured out.
Essentially what the project consists of is I have random balls appearing on the screen and moving around and I need to make it so that the user is able to draw a circle around the ball (may be more than one) and have that balls dissapear and count the number of balls circled.
This project is being done in flash builder 4.5 and is being made for the android platform as part of a senior project.
At this point this is where I am.. I have been able to randomly create the balls and give them a random movement. I have also been able to figure out how to allow the user to draw on the screen.
What I am trying to figure out is how to make it so that if the user draws a circle around the balls make it so that I know these balls have been circled and make them dissapear and have the number of balls inside the area calculated.
I have thought about making the entire background a grid and make it so that I can track somehow the line made by the user and then track the coordinate of the balls then if it is within that area it means that the ball has been circled but I would like something more efficient than that.
I apologize if it is unclear for what I am looking for but a simple description is I am making a simple game where you are able to circle a moving item on screen, then once it is circled the item disappearsand you gain a point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that's non-trivial.  just determining if your user drew a closed curve is non-trivial.  then deciding what's inside and what's outside that curve is non-trivial.
that's not to say it can't be done or even, that it can't be done with flash.  it can.  but you're not going to get a short paragraph answer to this one unless there are significant assumptions you can use to simplify the problem.

  • I need some help figuring out why parts of my form don't work

I have built a couple forms to use with my work, the first 1 is a write up sheet that I fill out while on a field job. When complete, I have an insert button that inserts times, dates customer info and employee info into a MYSQL database that is pertinent to the second form  which is a standard type timecard. It is with the timecard form that I am having problems. On the timecard form I have a radio button list with seven buttons (1 for each "start/stop" row of the timecard) when I click a button it makes a subform on the second page visible that allows me to insert the data from my database into the start/stop field of the timecard. I used the action builder to make these subforms visable and invisible and this all works except for 1. Also one of the subforms won't insert the data. I can't for the life of me figure out why, I have gone over both problems and don't see anything to cause it. I was hoping that I could upload my form and database somewhere and have somebody look it over, maybe I have overlooked something but at this point I have studied the problems for 3 days and haven't figured either out.  any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Yes, after the last iOS.  So is that different than the App update I just did through the app store?  Or is there a different version app that I need to go download again?

  • I need help figuring out GRUB [SOLVED]

So, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how grub's menu.lst should be configured on my system. I've scoured the internet and wiki, but I can't quite get it. Hopefully you can help me!
    Here's some info:
    joe@Snow-Crash:~$ sudo fdisk -l
    [sudo] password for joe:
    Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0x1e721e72
Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
    /dev/sda1               1       16554   132969973+  83  Linux
    /dev/sda2   *       16555       19104    20482875   83  Linux
    /dev/sda3           19105       19457     2835472+   5  Extended
    /dev/sda5           19105       19457     2835441   82  Linux swap / Solaris
I have HH 8.04 on my main partition [sda1], and I'm trying to put Arch on my 20gb sda2 partition. I followed the beginner's guide up to the install grub section. When it had me review menu.lst the pertinent Arch section was
    "title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro
    initrd /kernel26.img"
Now, I was planning on just copying this bit and pasting it into HH's menu.lst (and not installing grub in arch's partition), but I thought that it didn't seem quite right. It turns out I was right, since I get an "error 15: File not found" when I choose to boot Arch.
So what should it be? This is how I understand it, in my admittedly newbie way.
Am I mistaken in that it should be "root (hd0,0)"   Since the root command points to where grub is residing (and I'm using HH's grub in sda1)?
And "kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2" Since I need to designate that the kernel is on a different partition than (hd0,0), and my Arch partition is sda2?
and as far as I can tell it should be "initrd (hd0,1)/kernel26.img" since it's on a different partition.
I know I'm doing something wrong here, since I still get the same "file not found" error message. Can someone point out the error in my ways?
PS: Since I was having trouble with this I decided to try to to install GRUB in sda2 and use chainloader to point to it from HH's menu.lst. But when I tried to install grub via my Arch cd it gave me a generic "unable to install Grub" message. So I'm up a creek!
I hope you guys can help me out! Thanks.

    Welcome Joe_Arch,
You have to set the root to the partition that contains the "OS image" (the kernel).  Also, you apparently don't have a separate /boot partition, so you have to add /boot/ to the beginning of the file names.
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img

  • Help Figuring Out Project Settings?

I have footage from 2 different cameras. I think the cameramen just aren't too sure what they're talking about when it comes to the formats shot in, which in turn leave me a bit confused.
I was editing with HDV 1080p 25fps settings pretty fine, until I decided to replace a clip with an AE composition, and the next day playback became choppy for me. In trying to figure out what was wrong, I realized the clips for both cameras were saying 29.9 in premiere even though my cameraman said it was shot @ 25 fps on the Sony cam. So I am taking a guess here in saying I should probably be editing with project settings to match that 29/30 FPS, right?
Using mediainfo I am also seeing that the footage is 1080i, so should my project settings for these clips be HDV 1080i(60)? Any more info I can provide if needed, but I am already in a bind having to start this project over, but I am confused as to why I was getting playback just fine and then another day no matter what settings I used HDV playback got choppy. Currently re-installing CS4. Any help greatly appreciated as I am still new to this.

Yeah I was told it was done at 25fps, and that the Sony camera had 25, not 24 and that is very well an option in Premiere, but I'm guessing Mediainfo is a lot better to decide what to do it in. Just finished installing premiere again (I assume that will help with my stuttering in playback) and am going with HDV 1080i30 (60i) since that gives me 29.9 fps and well, 1080i instead of p. I tend to get overly worried about these things. I hope this is the right thing to use. I appreciate your feedback.
Not sure if this is relevant, but one camera gives me mpegs while the rest of footage is MP4.

  • Need Help figuring out security sandbox issue after changing webhost

I'm in the process of switching my webhost from 1&1 shared hosting to a dedicated IP address with a smaller company that specializes in Drupal sites and doesn't know much about flash.
1&1 is still the Registrar for my domain, but I've 'parked' YourGods.com on the Holistic servers and have 'pointed' my site to the Holistic DomainNameServers instead of the 1&1 servers.
After doing this, my Flash site (which is based on the Gaia framework) stopped working, and the Flashplayer Debugger, gave me the following errors:
Error: Failed to load policy file from xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800
Error: Request for resource at xmlsocket://127.0.0.1:5800 by requestor from http://www.yourgods.com/bin/main.swf has failed because the server cannot be reached.
    *** Security Sandbox Violation ***
Connection to 127.0.0.1:5800 halted - not permitted from http://www.yourgods.com/bin/main.swf
Someone helping me on another thread thought 127.0.0.1:5800 might mean the problem had to do with my paths and that I was trying to access something on my local computer, as opposed to being a standard cross-domain issue where one server was trying to access files on another, unrelated server.
    Can someone clarify this?
I Googled 127.0.0.1:5800 and found some stuff about loops between a server and the originating computer but I'm really not sure how to put all of this together.
Is there a way (with the flash debugger or other software) to step through my actionscript code with periodic breakpoints so I can figure out what line is causing the problem?
Or a way to figure out if this is a problem between Holistic and my local computer or Holistic and the 1&1 web servers?
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks Josh.
I finally tracked this down last night with help from the folks at actionscript.org.  I hadn't deactivated my Debugger which runs off of a desktop AIR application - so the server was trying to reach my localhost to run its trace statements.  Deactivating the Debugger fixed the problem.

I have no idea what any of this means, but if anyone does could you please help me in figuring out what is wrong here??
    Thank you so much!

Nope, it happened again about 2 minutes into playing Diablo 3, personally it feels like it is overheating, I feel as if the bottom of the Macbook is getting really hot very quickly.
Here is the updated crash report:
P.S. I have uninstalled VMWare, but it still appears in the crash report... not sure what else to do I cannot find anything about VMWare under the Computer search.

  • Need Help Figuring Out an Icon

    Hello,
I am using a template and I see the following icons next to the comp icon - can you please help me figure out what they are?
    Thank you!

One layer is being used as a track matte for another layer. Read up on Track Mattes here.
Track Mattes are one of the very basic things you should know about working with AE. If you don't know what they are, there must be a TON of other useful things you've missed. I would highly recommend that you go through these resources before you do much more in AE. It will help you work with a lot less frustration.
