HELP! File already open for writing?

I've got a file that has been Stuffed (using Stuffit) and now I'm trying to unstuff it and/or open it but get the "File is already open with write permission (-49)" error with an "OK". When I click OK, it stops doing what it was doing. But this file has not been opened for months. What do you think happened to this file prior to stuffing it? Could it have been open and renamed while it was still open? Is there a way that I can open this file? This is a file that can be very helpful with the reconstruction of the next year's edition. We're a printing company. Any input would be great.

There are a multitude of possibilities as to how a file might get corrupted. Specifically with Stuffit is that older versions had a file limitation, i.e., about 2GB of the total to be compressed, but the user does not get any warning to this fact. You may want to check the support section of their website. Hopefully, there is an uncompressed backup else where.

Does Secure Backup support file backup when a file is open for either reading or writing? Thanks.

Yes for UNIX / Linux but consistency is not guaranteed. OSB doesn't backup open files on Windows.

  • Error: "File couldn't be opened for writing" with CinemaDNG sequence

Using a Premiere Pro > After Effects workflow with my colorist.
I created a project in Premiere CS6 and used MOV transcodes because Premiere CS6 does not read CinemaDNG sequences. I do not have CC installed on my computer. My colorist, on his computer (we are both using Mavericks), imported the .prproj into AE CS6. We tried to replace MOV files with CinemaDNG sequences, and AE returned this error:
After Effects error: File couldn't be opened for writing: "[file path]". ( 3 :: 0 )
Normally when you replace footage with a CinemaDNG sequence in AE, Adobe Camera Raw pops open so you can make changes before the file is important. I have never seen this error before.
My colorist has CC installed as well as CS6, so we tried that instead.
Colorist opened the Premiere CS6 project in Premiere CC, creating a new Premiere CC project. Replaced MOV files with CinemaDNG sequences within Premiere CC with no error, project plays fine in Premiere CC. Finally! So we imported the new Premiere CC project in AE CC, and all linked CinemaDNG sequences appear as color bars (unlinked footage). When testing to import a CinemaDNG sequence, AE CC returned the same error as AE CS6.
So we tried opening the same CinemaDNG files in Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC to see if there was an error with Camera Raw. Both versions of Photoshop open the CinemaDNG files correctly in Camera Raw (version 8.3). So now we have CinemaDNG files functioning properly in Premiere Pro, Photoshop, but... not AE?
Tried replicating this on a second, Mountain Lion computer with both versions of AE, and returned the same issue.
CinemaDNG files from a different source DID open in AE CC and AE CS6 on both computers, which leads me to believe there is some kind of permissions/metadata issue in this particular set of CinemaDNG files I'm using that's causing problems for AE, but NOT Premiere Pro or Photoshop. Anyone experience anything like this?

  • Unable to prepare project for publishing The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission)

When I click on finalize project or when I tried to share on Vimeo iMovie goes through this ten hour operation and the, somethime while I'm away from the computer, I get this error message.  UNABLE TO PREPARE PROJECT FOR PUBLISHING.  The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission).
This has happened to me before and I can't nail down the particulars of when this happens.  I will say I've never been able to Finalize A Project (not even sure what than means) but I have been able to publish short films to YouTube.  This current film is a little over an hour and I picked the HD Format.  Could the size have something to do with it?

    Hi
Error -49 opWrErr  File already open with write permission
Trash the preference files while application is NOT Running.
Easiest way to find out if this is the problem is by:
    • Create a new User-Account
    • Log out of Your old one and into this
    • Re-try iMovie
If it now works OK - then 99.9% the problem is iMovie pref. file that needs to be trashed.

i am trying to download OpenSPARCT1 code on to the kit. i am working on linux platform .upto bit gereration it is o.k. but after that in the DV guide it is given like this "Right-click on the microblaze_0_boot loop application and select “Mark to initialize BRAMs.”,and when i am doing this it is showing the msg asXMP file "system.xmp" could not be opened for writing'.If anybody know the reason please send me.

    Hi Rd,
Per SAP Note 1911880, this has been identified as a Bug in CR 2011. Since CR 2013 is just a rebranded version of the same tool, the SAP Note should apply to CR 2013 as well.
For CR 2013, the issue has been resolved in FP3. I would suggest you to upgrade to the highest available version for CR 2013 and see if it works.
Another workaround could be to right-click the CR Designer exe > Run as Administrator > Log-in with Admin credentials > try opening the report.

  • Error message when finalizing...file already open with write protection

I just created my first movie in i Movie. It's about 9 minutes long. When I tried to finalize it it worked for a couple of hours and then came up with a message "unable to prepare project for publishing because an error occurred (file already open with write protection)". What does this mean? I thought I had closed all the files I was using. There was no error number. I tried it 3 times and got the same message. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

AppleMan, I just checked that and it looks like Time Machine isn't open. I checked it by going to finder>applications>R click on time machine. It gave me the option to "open" which makes me think it's already closed. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking?
I made another movie that was just a couple of clips and it finalized fine. On that movie, I had some MTS clips and I converted them to mp4's so iMovie could read them.
In the one that didn't work I did clip one of the movies before I imported it into iMovie. It saved as a .mov instead of a .mp4. Would that make a difference? I checked all of the files and none of them are listed as locked, so I really don't get the "write protected" aspect of this error.

    you're welcome.
p.s. there's one more thing he can try. if he has a working swf, he can trying decompiling it to get a working fla or, even if that fails, he will be able to get a non-corrupt fla whose assets can be extracted.
