many users have this serious problem and the most common symptoms are these:
Without any apparent reason the com.apple.IconServicesAgent process starts using 100% CPU and the FINDER starts to
(o) become slow;
(o) gradually stops showing folder contects/files;
(o) some folder icons become invisible/transparent, with only the name /text/ visible;
(o) the file into hd external are invisible. finder crazy!
(o) FINDER hangs.
thanks!!!

Download TextWrangler, mount the FTP server, and drag the icon which represents the server into the open TextWrangler window.
Alternatively, mount the FTP server, open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, and run the following exactly as posted:
do shell script "ls -R " & quoted form of POSIX path of (choose folder) & " > ~/Desktop/inventory.txt"

  • How do i fix a file where relinking or updating file is too slow and generating 60+MB pdf from a 4mb Indesign file?

I have an 18 page files linking several pdf images and working with this file is horribly slow.  These pdf images(total of 15) easily take a min to relink or update (pdf's are at max 2mb but majority are less than 1mb).  The Indesign file is only 4mb but when i export or print to pdf I get a 60-70mb file. Exporting or printing these 18 pages easily takes 30 min.  I can't use the file with a higher display quality unless i have the patience of watching a plant grow on that day. I've read a majority of ways why InDesign would be slow. At work im operating Windows 7, Indesign 6 and I have 32MB of RAM.  Extremely frustrating and reminding me of the days of dial up internet.  I've already done a SAVE AS and tried to reduce linked files image size and to no avail has not helped.  I was able to get my 72mb pdf file to reduce to 6mb after using Adobe Acrobat and getting rid of the hidden information but I lose alot of quality in the linework.  I am guessing its because these pdfs are generated from Revit or Autocad is why it might be holding onto some hidden info. So how do i make this file work faster (relink, export, pdf etc)?

Just to note as well, InDesign only links to files, there's no embedding, you would see a 4mb file, but if it's linked to a 10mb pdf and it has to include all that PDF in the final file then it will be circa 14mb file.
What you have is a vector heavy PDF and there's no real way to reduce that without losing quality.
You may have better joy by opening the linked PDFS in acrobat and using File>Print and choose Adobe PDF (or another method) to basically refry the CAD pdfs.
I'd do this with a copy of all the files though just in case something goes drastically wrong.
Frankly, I feel it's the nature of how CAD pdfs are made that's causing the downfall here, refrying these and Printing these files to PDF removes a lot of the complicated things happening in CAD files and makes a very dulled down PDF version.
Once you've done this then try FIle>Export from indesign to make your pdf.

  • Switch log file is too slow

    hello,
    my database is 10R2
the specified size of online redolog file is 50mb
the switching of log file is too slow..
even though the size of archived log file has become around 50,029,there is still no log switch of file..
why the log switch is not occuring immediately after the size reaches upto that limit(50,029)...?
what might be the setting do i need to do..
    any help ....any guess ??
    thank you..

    Hello,
The frequency of the log switch depends on the activity of the Database.
You may check the Alert log for some messages like this:
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence ...
Checkpoint not completeWhile Oracle needs informations in the Redo log to complete the Checkpoint, it cannot reuse it. So, it can happen that the Database doesn't switch the redo log up to the Checkpoint is complete.
If you have this kind of messages, the following link may help you:
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:69012348056
Often, it's solved by adding redo log files.
The Parameter fast_start_mttr_target may also help the Database to optimize the checkpoint:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams068.htm
Else, if you don't have this message ( checkpoint not complete ...), but you want to log switch more frequently (even if the Redo log is not completely full), you have the parameter archive_lag_target. It can help to force log switch every n+ seconds:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams009.htm
NB: It's not recommended to get log switch too frequently, in general you shouldn't have more than 3 or 4 log switchs every hour.
    Hope this help.

  • Fuji x-trans raw files import extremely slow

WIn 7 pro 3.6 AMD quad core 16 gb ram 1.2 tb raid 0 WD Velociraptor drives. Lightroom 5.6
I have a fairly quick system and my 24mp Sony raw files import and render full sized previews reasonably quickly -but it takes about 5x longer for my Fuji X-T1 raw files to import and render full size previews.  If I import into Capture One Pro 7 or 8 or into Photo Ninja both the Sony and the Fuji files import and render previews quickly. It is only Lightroom that is so incredibly slow with the Fuji raw files.
I have used LR since version one and my files have always imported reasonably fast , however, the Fuji raw files have been slow to import from the very first import.  Ex - yesterday I imported 312 raf files (Fuji raw files) and it took 31 minutes to complete. I also imported 257 Sony raw files and the import  plus full sized preview rendering was completed in just under 5 minutes.
Am I missing something in the preferences or import workflow?
    Thanks for any help
    BOb

Thanks for the quick reply! :-)
The setup is identical as when I work with my Nikon-files; I always start by "manually" copy the files from the memorycard to correct location/disk.
In LR I use the "Add" option when I import to my catalog, so the file transfer is not part of the equation....
Even the large files from Nikon D810 is faster to "add" than the files from the X-T1.
But, as you write, it might come down to X-Trans-files (RAF) is not as optimal for Adobe processing as the Nikon raw files (NEF)...

  • Output file is in slow motion

    hello,
When I render my video in after effects the output file is in slow motion, its not the render settings but something else.
    Anyone can help me?
    thanks

What do you mean that it's in slow motion? Are you sure that the problem isn't that you created a file so large that your video player and computer can't play it in real time?
    See this page:
"FAQ: Why is my output file huge, and why doesn't it play back smoothly in a media player?"

  • Saving files is very slow!!!

Since I installed (updated) from CS5 to CS5.1, saving files is very slow. It takes like 4 minutes save a 2048 X 2048 png file which used to take seconds in CS5.
I am not sure what changed... I completely uninstalled all versions of Photoshop. Re-downloaded from the website. Deleted my user preferences and the problem remains.
Why is saving so slow all of a sudden?
    Using Windows 7 - 64 bit

Hm, that's kind of alarming.  Is it happening with all files or just PNG.
If every file does that, it could be a possible indication that your disk is going bad...
Click Start and type view events into the search box.
When View event logs comes up, click it.
Navigate down into Windows Logs > System and see if there are any Error events there that indicate problems with your disk.
If this isn't the problem, it's possible that Photoshop is having to wait for a disk to spin up to be able to access it.  Do you see the problem occur when you save again right away?  Are you using an external drive for either file storage or as a scratch disk in Photoshop?
Lastly, you may have a stored printer or drive connection to a location on your network that does not exist now (or is not responding) and that has to time out before completing the operation.  Have you changed anything in your network lately?

  • Method to dump flat files (spool is slow)

    Hey all,
I have been using spool with a bunch of set commands and it works great, but performance is a bit slow. Especially for our partitioned tables. (4.2 Mill records) Is there a better way to dump flat files?
I want to use sqlldr to import (faster than IMP) but no good if creating the flat files is 10X slower than EXP utility.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chris G

If you have a multi CPU machine kick of many sqlplus spool jobs. (select from all of your partitions at the same time)
You are doing a full table scan so you can have a large value for db_file_multiblock_read_count.
if you want to put the spool files back together use cat on a unix machine other wise just use sqlldr on all of the files.

  • What does 'include render files' option mean for when I duplicate a project. I deselected it and the duplicated file is very slow so maybe this has affected it. It's a shame cause original project is deleted. Have I lost the rendered files? Thanks

What does 'include render files' option mean for when I duplicate a project. I deselected it and the duplicated file is very slow so maybe this has affected it. It's a shame cause original project is deleted. Have I lost the rendered files? Thanks

Yes, if you duplicate without the render files and delete the original project you lose the render files. But render files get recreated - automatically if you have it set in the preferences (which is the default option). It just takes time.

  • Very Strange AFP/SMB file service issue, slow, intermittent connections.

There's a bit of a saga to this, so please stay with me.
X-Serve G5, first loaded with 10.3.2, and over 2 years upgraded to 10.3.9. All the server has ever done is be a standalone file server to Mac only. There is no AD/OD intergration, or any fancy stuff about it, its just a dumb file server, serving Macs.
Recently we decided to put in a larger raid, and some new G5's, both PPC and Intel, and upgrade all the other G5's to 10.4. At the same time we thought we'd upgrade teh server OS to 10.4, so we had a full 10.4 site.
All updates went well, apart from the server. As soon as we started running 10.4 the server connections were really slow, and basically unworkable. I came on here and found little tweaks to do as other users were having similar problems, but with much more complex set-ups. The most puzzling thing was the apparent local caching issue.
If i copy a 50mg file/folder via either afp or smb, whatever happens the first time is longer, eg 1st 43s, 2nd 2sec, 3rd 2sec,, then re-boot, and its back to the same thing. If you disconnect, and secure empty trash you get the same thing.
    Maybe more of an eye opener is a 110mb file/folder, 1st 75Sec, 2nd 38Sec, 3rd 32Sec.
Now i've given up and done a clean istall back to 10.3.9 on a seperate partition, and its instantly quicker in everything. eg. 50MB 1st AFP 5 Sec, 2nd AFP 5 Sec, 3rd SMB, 5 Sec, 110MB 1st AFP 9 Sec, 2nd AFP 9 Sec.
So i've fixed it, but by having to retrograde the OS back to 10.3.9. We don't use apple talk, only IP, we have no network issues, and spanning tree, etc, can't be the issue as it only affect appletalk!.
If i get a minute i'll do a clean install on 10.4, to see if the problem was the upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4..
Just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience, ot hoping that it may help someone in a similar situation. All i can think is maybe ACL's were the issue, or a newer/different version of AFP.
The new raid system showed the same throughput/connection speed on both OS', and the same network load, etc, is also on both OS', they were also not maxxed out, and the afp daemon wasn't eating CPU.

Retrograded back to 10.3.9, all works fine now!?!?!?!?

  • File transfer very slow with a SSTP VPN

I have a serer in the office and I connect from my house through a SSTP VPN. In my home computer (client) I add a new network folder, this networkf folder is in the server, that has a shared folder. I can transfer files, but is very slow.
For example, to transfer a folder that contain about 20 files, and in total are 11MB, it takes about 3 minutes. The server has a upload bandwidth of 890kbps. With teamviewer VPN takes about 1minute with 55 seconds.
The problema with the SSTP is that the transfer speed is not stable, bteween 0-200kbps. The problema is that when has to transfer a file, always the same, the speed drop to 0bytes/s and in this state is about 1-15 seconds and continue the transfer. Why?
So the total time at the end it's much more than the time that I need if the connection was stable and used all the bandwith. How I say, teamviewer VPN takes about 1:55 inteado of the 3:00 of SSTP.
    Thank so much.

    Hi ComptonAlvaro,
Please check if we have other program is connecting the Internet when we use the SSTP.
Additionally, we could contact the ISP to check the stability of network.
Regarding the slow SSTP performance issue, we could refer to the following thread similar to this issue.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8e8e4220-af25-4627-bed2-47db8c04d318/sstp-and-slow-transfer?forum=winserverNIS
Please take the following steps to fix this issue:
    1. Add new registry key and value “ TcpAckFrequency=1 ” for all NICs on VPN server, so that we can reduce ACK delay.
    2. Disable Windows 2008 SNP feature, and restart VPN server
    3. Disable TCP Checksum offloading on VPN server
    Hope it will be helpful.

  • File display extremely slow with call of OLE_FLUSH_CALL standard function

    Hi,
We are running SAP R/3 Enterprise 640 with Doculink extension.
When trying to display PDF files stored in an SAP Archive Server, it takes quiet a while to retreive the document, while displaying it through a web browser is very fast.
I have made a some performances tests in ST05, and the results clearly shows that the ABAP execution time takes most of the process time. When digging deeper into which function takes so many time, I can see that the standard program SAPLOLEA takes a long while on a wait for RFC call. And then when I display the source code responsible for this call, I see that the OLE_FLUSH_CALL call takes the most time.
I have tried to look around in SAP Notes but didn't find any relevant information regarding this problem. I wondered if I would be able to find more interesting opinions on SDN.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Thibault

Query returns anywhere from 6000 to 32000 rows. For each of those rows a parameter is passed in to 4 different functions to get ytd totals. When I call the functions in the in-line view but do not select from them in the main SQL, the report (oh, this is Application Express 4.0 interactive reports, just an FYI) runs fast. The report comes back in a few seconds. But when I select from the in-line view to display those ytd totals, the report runs extremely slow. I know there are the articles about context switching and how mixing SQL with PL/SQL performs poorly. So I tried a pipeline table function where the function for the ytd totals populate the columns of the pipeline table and I select from the pipeline table in the SQL query in the interactive report. That seemed to perform a little worse from what I can tell.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • FINDER: File Date & Time Slow to Update

In finder windows my date and time is slow to "update" when I've changed a file. Viewing by "Date Modified" is worthless sometimes. I change & save a file, view in finder and the date & time has not updated. Update times vary from immediate to minutes...
Surely this isn't typical? The systme can't handle getting file date&time updated?
    10.4.7 on Dual 1Gz machine.
    comments?

    Hi, Greg.
I've seen this happen from time to time myself. In my case it has been very rare and I've been unable to pin down a cause. It appears to be a bit of a glitch in Finder. It's usually seen with server-mounted volumes even though it was supposedly fixed in Tiger after being a regular issue with shared volumes in Panther.
    Some ideas:
    • Temporarily switching the View from say List to Icon and Back often corrects this.
    • You might want to take a look at Nudge.
    • If it's happening at high frequency, purging your Finder preferences may help. See my "Finder Issues? How to delete its preferences" FAQ.
    • You may want to try Path Finder, an alternative Finder. You can use Finder and Path Finder simultaneously.
    Good luck!

Requests for the existence of a file on 1 or 20 computers is slow to the point of being useless. The trick that worked in Network Assistant (using "is" or "starts with") does nothing to speed things up. Are there any setting that can be adjusted? Can't it query the Spotlight index? Any help????
