Help files are annoying

Does anybody else think the way the help files for WebLogic Workshop are presented
now are annoying?
Anytime I need to search for something, I can't go back. The index frame is updated
so there is no back trail. If I go on a wrong path, I can't easily go back to
where I
started. I'm copy and pasting to text files just so I don't have to go thru the
pain of
using the GUI. I've talked to others using the GUI and they say the same thing.
I've see request for PDF files for the help docs and assume they are request for
the same thing - a way to go around the interface.
I'm starting to hack the html files, but this isn't reasonable.
Am I alone in this?

You're so not alone. I hate having to turn to the help files. And I
experience the same exact problems you do. I use them as a last resort
because of the usability issues. I also have issues with the content
itself. Once you get beyond the basics the help files are lacking in
content. For example, go try and figure out how to make use of a Scoped
Response.
It should get better, but in the mean time, this is all we have to work
with.

  • Updated to itunes 10.5 and Help files are not accessible

I have updated my itunes to 10.5 today but now the Help files are not accessible.  I receive the following message - the request URL/itunes/win/10.5was not found on this server - Apache/2.2.3 (Oracle) Server at help.apple.com Port 80.

I have seen this before. You need to update the apps in your app store, and once they are updated, they will work again.

  • After a recent AIR update, all of my Adobe help files are surrounded in black and no longer function

Cannot see the the words typed into the search bar and when I go to preferences the help files permanently freeze up. Any clue what's happening here? This is happening at home and at work.

I had to call tech support on this issue, unable to find answers elsewhere, and they had me uninstall comunity help and the AIR runtime and then reinstall Community Help which automatically installed AIR in the process. That fixed the problem across the board.

  • PS cc 2104 downloaded but all files under the help tab are inactive

I downloaded CC and then PS and Bridge. The CC pane stated that both were downloaded correctly and I checked that they were 64 bit versions (working with a win 7 64 bit pc).
The programmes appear to be working OK and interacting correctly with my pre-installed LR5.5 but there are Several odd problems:
    - none of the active tabs in CC pane (information, tutorials) work
    - none of the active options under the PS Help tab work and I get an error message telling me that the Browser was not installed correctly and that I need to reinstall
In contrast, Bridge cc 2014 (installed at the same time) works without problem and the help files are accessible
I have done this reinstallation 3 times, then spent 2 hours "chatting" with Adobe technical support who were able to confirm my problem as described but were unable to resolve it for me
Does anyone have any clues as to what may be going on and how to resolve it - please

Interesting, I just checked Bridge and following the intervention of the Adobe help specialist last night (I gave him remote control of my PC as it was quicker) now I can't access the Help or Adobe Support centre from that either (no error message, just no response)
I wish I knew what the heck was going on!

  • What are "CPU Help Files" (custom install)?

I did a custom install, since I don't need the extra languages, only need some printer drivers, etc. One of the optional items is "CPU Help Files". The details field just echoes "CPU Help Files", with no explanation of what these are, why I would/not want them, etc. Does anyone know?

    Hi Doug,
take a look at this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5789690
It looks like these "CPU Help Files" are some sort of documentation.

  • How do I transfer a music file (song) from iTunes list to my iPOD? The Apple help files do not make any sense in this regard.

How do I transfer a song from itunes to my ipod (they are connected). The Apple help files are truly pathetic in this fundamental function.
For example they say click on the "summary" button ... I find no summary button anywhere on my screen. How's that for a confidence builder?

This talks about iTunes 10, but it should work the same way in iTunes 11. Transferring purchases for an iDevice to your Mac.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2554
It should be File>Devices>Transfer Purchases, I think
You must be using the same Apple ID in iTunes on your Mac that your son is using on the Mini or the movie will not transfer.

Your spelling of awry is ary. But everything else looks
    okay. ;)
    > Anyone else had good or bad experiences with this

Welllll, it's not so much an update as a beta. That's an
    important
distinction! Having said that, though, I haven't had any
    problems. My Help
files are all still accounted for -- in Flash 8, that is. Are
    you saying
the Flash 9 beta ate your Flash 8 documentation? Or is it
    just that Flash 9
seems to have no Help? If that's it, then we're in the same
    boat. Flash 9
doesn't have help files (those are available online).

  • How can I download imovie help files?

I have now help files in my upgraded imovie 11.  Where do I get them?

All Help files are 'inside' the app.
Did you use AppStore to purchase your copy, or is it a Disk/iLife11-version?

  • Configuring Help Files

    Hi everyone,
I would like to modify some of the help files that come out-of-the-box with Identity Manager.
The help files are contained within idm.jar. Is it best practice to go
into these files and change them directly? Or is there an alternative
way to do this? I believe you may be able to place them into
IDMDirectory/WEB-INF/classes directory and manipulate them from there - however, despite the changes made here being displayed on the screen, an exception is shown on stdout stating no help file is available for this page.
    Has anyone done this before?

I tried to do this as you suggested, configuring a file and then placing it in the doc folder within the idm directory. I also tried placing the whole com directory but this didn't work.
Have you tried this previously? Any other suggestions?

  • Help Files Not Displaying

My customer's help files are acting strangely.  When I try to access them the Help Window displays but every topic shows as u201CThe Page cannot be displayedu201D.
We have tried downloading to the shared and local folder, and neither work.
    Any pointers much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Greig

    Hi Greig,
    Please try the following:
1."Right click" on the B1_SHR folder(generally found in C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\B1_SHR) and go to "properties".
2.Choose the "security and sharing" tab in the window.
3.Allow "full control" to the relevant "user" and click "apply".
4.Run SAP Business One Help now.
    ->I also found that:
As per Microsoft the issue might  be a vulnerability in "HTML Help".The resolution requires a change in registry settings of the help file.
I would request you to go through the following link:
    MS Knowledgebase: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054
                                   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896358/en-us
Another thing you can check is the help settings on the particular PC. Go to help/help settings. Make sure they are set according to all other clients.

  • Help files

Why is it that when I select Numbers Help from the Help menu, all I get is a Help window with some highlighted items but when I click on any of them, nothing happens?!! Where are the Help files stored? Are the links on the help page links to local files or are they links to files on Apples server somewhere?
It is the same problem for Pages and Keynote. This is really strange. I can't get any help!!
Do I need to install the help files? How do I do this?
    Stephen Ng

The Help files are embedded in the Pages package so I guess that they are available on your machine.
Enter the word to search (here: bold) in the dedicated field
Pressing return brings this window at front:
Double click an item or click the bottom-right button to display a Help page
Alternate path (my preferred one), In the Help menu click on "Pages User Guide" to get this page:
Download one or the four Guides dedicated to iWork '09.
After that you will be able to enter the PDFs to search esily in them:

  • I've lost all my help files

    Hi,
the other day when I started up LabVIEW I got an error saying it had to install a runtime engine, no idea why this happened but I fixed it by reinstalling my drivers.  Anyway since I did that I've lost all my help files.  The context help works fine, but when I click "VI, function and how-to help", or "Click here for more help" in the context help window, nothing happens.  It doesn't even open up a window any more.
Any ideas what the problem could be?  I'm not sure which disk the files are on so I'm not sure how to reinstall them.
I'm running LabVIEW 7.1 Full Development System on Windows 2000.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
Sorry to hear about you losing the help files, which drivers did you re-install when you had the initial problem?
The help files are located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\help, you could check whether files in this folder have been deleted or your access has somehow been restricted to this folder. If there are a set of compiled HTML files there, try opening those individually and see if they open OK.
Can you open Help from the LabVIEW Help menu (Help>>Contents) or pressing F1?
I would try repairing LabVIEW from the Add/Remove programs section of the Control Panel first, and see if this helps.
Please let me know how you get on!
